Crispy Fish Tacos
Debi R.

We were greeted warmly by the host who seated us outside, per our request. The restaurant wasn't completely booked. They appeared to take walk in's, but I'm glad I made a reservation. I don't recall our server's name, but he was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The menu has a nice variety of dishes, which suited us just fine because we ordered American, Asian and Mexican dishes. All were equally delicious!

Cheeseburger and fries were good

Very nice customer service! Very prompt. I had a cucumber cocktail and it was delicious and very cold! That's how cocktails should be! The cheeseburger and fries were delicious; I ordered the salad with grilled salmon, perfect salmon the salad had way toooo much dressing!

Very chic interior with okay service. Food and drinks were good! Nice restaurant to dine out in and located near the bars when you're hungry. We ordered the mac and cheese lobster, fries, and calamari.

Burger Louie (they cut it for us so we could share)

My friend and I came in for an early dinner during the week and there was only one woman both serving and bartending. We had to wait at the entrance for a bit before being acknowledged because I believe she was in the back. She was doing the best she could, but service was lacking because she had a lot to handle. We split two items, and both were pretty average. Neither of us were a fan of the garlic noodles. They were almost TOO garlic-y and both the noodles and the chicken were overcooked. The Burger Louie was better, and I appreciated that they cut it in half for us because we told them we were splitting it. Overall, with so many choices on 2nd St, I wouldn't be compelled to return.

Wanted to love Louie's on 2nd but it was just an okay experience. The venue is modern and beautiful and offers nice bar, booth, tables and outdoor patio seating. I was looking for a couple items that I saw on Yelp like the French Onion Soup, but sadly did not see that on the actual menu. My friend and I split the Steak Frites which came with an 8oz steak which was prepared perfectly at Medium rare but did not have a lot of flavor to it. The fries also were somewhat cold, and the side salad that came with this seemed unnecessary. We also ordered the Heirloom Tomato Salad, which honestly probably wasn't necessary, though we didn't realize the steak already came with a side salad. The service felt a bit slow given it was a pretty empty restaurant for a Sat night. However, I did enjoy having a nice conversation with my friend without feeling rushed and too many interruptions.

sauvignon blanc

Came in one afternoon for lunch with my girl and remembered real quick why this place is always in the conversation on 2nd Street. We started with a bottle of sauvignon blanc and the sticky ribs. The ribs were a fun surprise, not your standard BBQ style. Sauce had great flavor, the meat was tender, and it felt a little more elevated than you'd expect for "just" an appetizer. For my main I didn't even pretend to branch out. I went straight for my usual triple smash burger. I'll die on this hill, it's easily one of the best burgers on 2nd. Perfect crust on the patties, juicy inside, cheese melted right, bun holds up and doesn't disintegrate halfway through. It never misses. My girl went with the basil chicken sandwich and was happy with her choice. Good portion, juicy chicken, and she actually stopped talking for a few minutes which is usually a good sign. After we ate we slid over to the bar for a couple cocktails and to watch the game. This is where Louies really shines. The bartenders actually know what they're doing. Drinks are balanced, not all sugar, and they're quick without making you feel rushed. Service in general has always been consistent for me here. Friendly, on top of refills, and they check in just enough. The space itself is sharp and clean, feels polished without being stiff. I've never had a bad experience at Louies. Every visit has been the same formula: good food, good drinks, solid service, and an easy place to hang out for a few hours. This is exactly the kind of spot you want anchoring a street like 2nd.

Triple Smash Burger

We started with the chicken and waffles and then had the triple smash burger. Both were phenomenal! From the start Dillon and Andrea were very welcoming and friendly. We had a great time chatting with them and making friendly banter. Love the open atmosphere of the restaurant and the friendly interactions with all the staff. Great service and great food! Will be coming back!!

Louie's Classic
Joann V.

3.4 stars I think this restaurant is decent, but I wasn't wow'd or anything. The food menu was limited, but the drinks menu was pretty extensive. If you like alcohol, then this is the place to be! The interior decor was nice and clean. The servers are nice. It's dog-friendly like other restaurants on 2nd. I ordered Louie's Classic burger ($15) and it was good. I got the beef patty well-done (b/c I planned to give some to my dog), fries without salt, and a coke ($4). I thought it was good, but I guess that's all I can say. Their tipping on the card machine is set at 20%, which, frankly, is excessive for a single person with minimal needs to dine there. Overall, I'd come back if a group of my friends wanted to dine here.

Lemon pasta with chicken - March 2025
Joanna R.

We had a great dinner here. We found the place on Yelp the day prior, made a reservation for 5:30pm and were seated immediately. The restaurant is somewhat small, so I'd make sure to reserve a table in advance if you want to ensure a patio spot or you're hosting a large group. Everything we ordered was fantastic. We had a great onion soup and some shrimp to start. For our entrees a few of us had burgers, and the rest of us had the steak frites (so good - that steak was amazing), the Bahn Mi tacos (which I loved and enjoyed the spicy jalapeños), and the lemon pasta with chicken (it was good, not great). But the service was really amazing. They were on top of it, so friendly, just the perfect helpful but not in your face service you want. Loved it.

Steakhouse Burger
Heidi O.

Everything was great! The food was delicious, service was great, and ambience was nice. We would definitely come back here and try more. We started with a burrata appetizer which was creamy and decadent. We ordered the Steak Frites, the Steakhouse burger, and the triple smash. Everything was top notch. Nothing we would change. We came during the week and it was surprisingly not that busy. Maybe an off time because I cannot imagine this place not being fairly busy most of the time considering how good the food was and where they are located. Highly recommended.

Drinks

Met up with some friends for dinner and drinks. We ordered a few things and everything was good. The carrot cake was our favorite! Parking was tought but the place had good service.

Mango margarita on the rocks. Cheers to Louie's on 2nd for their grand opening!

We were here on their grand opening over a year ago and have dined here a million times since then. Their food and drinks are great but it's the servers and staff that work here that makes us repeat customers. Cynthia, Kenyon, Dennis and Danielle are awesome! My hubby loves their smash burgers (and I do, too). It's not just any ordinary smash burger, it's a triple smash! Order it with the garlic fries and you won't regret it. For drinks, I always order a margarita and the mango marg is my fave. Hubby orders a beer and he switches it up and likes to try different ones. They've got a lot of great local beers on tap. For dessert, carrot cake is our jam! They give you the most generous slice and it's still a lot of cake between the 2 of us. 5 stars for excellent service, smash burgers and great value!

We had so many choices of restaurants on 2nd Street in Long Beach. We looked at the menu and liked the options. We liked the casual atmosphere. We had a very nice server who answered all our questions and had good recommendations. The garlic noodles were good just a little too spicy. The shrimp on top was a good pairing. The Mezze platter had a little bit of everything. It was good!

Upscale Restaurant on 2nd Street with Delicious Food…read more I've visited Saint & Second on multiple occasions: for drinks, a casual lunch, and my birthday dinner. Reservations are fairly easy to get, which make it an optimal choice if I'm looking to have a nice meal. The ambiance of Saint & Second is what sets it apart from other Belmont Shore restaurants. There's indoor seating and rooftop seating upstairs, and both areas are designed impeccably. The food menu changes every few months, which is great because it allows the chefs to experiment with new menu items, but I have been left missing past items. When I returned for the third time for my favorite hummus, I found that it was discontinued for a nice, but less tasty green hummus (which leaned more into an avocado flavor than traditional hummus flavor). Overall, if you'd like to return to Saint and Second, you should expect some changes to menu items every few months and plan accordingly. One appetizer I'd recommend is the tuna on crispy rice. This is a consistent item with great flavors that trump other tuna crispy rice dishes I've had at other restaurants. The amount of fish on this item is generous. If you are celebrating your birthday here like I did, they offer a delcious smores-flavored dessert. However, this dessert is not complimentary, and we were charged without the server informing us of the dessert's price. Overall, in terms of food, this restaurant offers a fresh array of menu items. I believe the server told us that their kitchen is a scratch kitchen, which contributes to the great quality of the food.

Cool, they can make it. what I got was a cup of coffee in a to go cup (even though I was dining in) with milk and a foam, so really what I got was a flat white. the other coffee ordered was a latte which was pretty standard I ordered the chicken sandwich ($12) which comes on a biscuit and a side of fruit, to round it out I also ordered the yogurt bowl which is yogurt and granola. When the sandwich came out it looked rather disappointing. The biscuit itself is small, probably the size of a Pillsbury dough biscuit, and the chicken wasn't much bigger. nothing else on it like a green, coleslaw, sauce, etc. just these two items. However, it did come with a side of a honey butter. the side of fruit was about 8 pieces split between pineapple, melon, and grapes. the whole sandwich was dry, which can be expected from a biscuit, but this was just too dry for me. the yogurt bowl($8) came in a small bowl that had a large flaring, basically the entire dish was large but the bowl portion was small. I eat yogurt everyday and the amount you get is probably half the size of a standard serving of yogurt (170g) and it was sparsely sprinkled with granola. my partner ordered a chorizo burrito ($15) and while she raved about the flavor the size of it was laughable, especially considering there are plenty of spots in LB that serve double or even triple the size of this burrito at or near the same price lastly, and the most disappointing of all, was the cinnamon roll($8). they were on display at the register and figured yeah I want one of those and instead of giving it to me right then and there it was brought with the rest of the food but it was not warmed up, which made me question why I waited for it. It was rool temp, burnt, and hard. I do want to try other items but the price you pay for what you get, especially considering this experience I had, is off putting.

And let's just be honest, my obsession with chai lattes and almond croissants really needs to be studied:) So, naturally, that's exactly what I ordered. I got a chai latte with almond milk, and it was creamy, frothy, perfectly spiced, and just so good. The almond croissant was every bit as sweet, buttery, and delicious as I remembered. One of the reasons I love Ubuntu Café is the location. It's right by the marina, so you get this beautiful ocean breeze while you sit outside and watch people walking by. It's one of those places where you don't feel rushed to leave. They also offered me a half order of their cheese bread, and I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it ended up being one of my favorite things. It comes with a guava and passion fruit jam, and the sweet jam with the cheesy bread sounds like it shouldn't work... but somehow it absolutely does. The thing that really stood out to me, though, was the service. Everyone was so attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful. It just made the whole experience even better. Five stars. No notes. Although they were busy, the staff graciously rearranged tables to accommodate our group of 11, including three little ones. Elizabeth was our server, and she was incredible. She and the rest of the staff anticipated our needs--especially with the kids--and our food and drinks arrived quickly despite the bustling atmosphere. We shared a wonderful bottle of Prosecco (served in chilled glasses!), and several of us enjoyed beautiful (and delicious!) coffee drinks. The menu was filled with so many tempting options that it was hard to choose. We all ordered something different, and every dish was outstanding. I'm still dreaming about the delicious chicken grain bowl I ordered and can't wait to try recreating it at home! Ubuntu truly lives up to its reputation as the "greatest neighborhood café." The warm, welcoming, and very kid-friendly atmosphere made us feel right at home. Our little ones especially loved exploring the peaceful water feature out front and searching for the little plastic duckies throughout it. The café is also perfectly situated overlooking Will Rogers Mini Park and Colorado Lagoon, making for a beautiful setting. Ubuntu gets an A+ for food, service, and ambiance. We can't wait to return the next time we're in Long Beach!
