While the menu selection was not large what they do is have is prepared exceedingly well. I had the steak, my wife had the chicken and my daughter had the salmon. Every Friday was delicious. I Really enjoyed the steak with the mash potatoes and gravy. The gravy was so flavorful and the steak was cooked perfectly. I grew up in this area and already tender driving by the Holiday in Tower and had always wanted to go into the restaurant considering the hotel is right next to the long Beach airport so I thought it would be best to be able to sit there while watching the planes land. Unfortunately the restaurant is on the wrong side of the tower so you can see the planes approaching from the south east but are not really situated to see them land. During the day the view is pretty neat but after it goes dark they aren't a whole lot of lights to make it interesting. So best time for the view is day time. I understand they have a breakfast buffet so at some point in time I am going to go back and try that. It server was exceptional very warm and helpful, we went for my birthday so they have me a dessert, tiramisu. Not a big fan of that but this again was exceptional and by far the best tiramisu I've had Overall a fun experience but a little disappointed in the restaurants physical orientation. read more

First time dining at Vue, and it did not disappoint. Decided to give it a try after passing by so many times...was interested in finding a good spot to watch the planes at Long Beach Airport. Not only did we get an awesome view, but we had the most amazing server in Miguel. He is definitely an asset to the staff and he made our experience even better than we could've imagined. My husband and I both got the ribeye steak topped with grilled shrimp. Everything is made to order and fresh, and our meal was delicious. For dessert, he had crème brûlée and I had the Biscoff cheesecake....i would highly recommend as they were both fantastic. The vibe is really cool. Wanted a nice city view overseeing Lakewood. Tried this rooftop place for drinks and appetizers. Even though it was a weekend, this place still honored their happy hour specials from 3pm to 6pm. Kudos to this establishment for doing so. Ordered Sangria and Chardonnay wine along some figs. The quality of wine and food did not disappoint. Our server Bernice was awesome! She kept attending to us providing the best possible service she can perform. Very Kind and professional. This restaurant is located on the top floor of the Holiday Inn Long Beach well they call it the Penthouse. The first time we came here was on a Monday evening around 10ish. So the kitchen would be closing soon. But the b arc would still be serving alcohol. The bartender working this Monday evening was friendly and kind. She had a good conversation with us. We didn't get to order food because we were to late. But that's okay. The next time we came here was a week later as we got off of the cruise ship and we were looking for dinner that evening. We went earlier this time so we could actually try something. The waitress we had was okay. She seemed like we were bothering her. It was kind of busy. We wanted a different table because it was right under the A.C. vent. So we asked if we could please move. She didn't care to much for that. But we ordered food and drinks. This is my 100th view! I chose the Vue for my 100th! The food here is hit or miss, when it is a miss they will fix it for you, same with the drinks. The bartenders and servers are great here. The manager here is out of this world. She's so cool and pretty awesome! She will come order things to make sure her guest are getting what they should be getting. I think that really makes a great manager! Depending on the time you come, this place can be loud or quiet really depends on what you want. Earlier in the day it's more quiet and bright. Later it gets louder and dark but it is a lot of fun. And it can get crowded but still all good. And these guys make a good lemon drop! YUM!!! read more

This was my first time at VUE, and the rooftop was definitely a vibe. I came for a birthday party, and the private room was intimate and perfect for a group of about 50 people. However, they were clearly understaffed, which led to long wait times for both food and drinks. We arrived pretty hungry, so the delay was noticeable. The bartender, Collie, seemed overwhelmed and unfortunately got our order wrong. We ordered the asada fries with no cheese, but they came out covered in cheese. Due to dietary restrictions, I couldn't eat them. I had already taken a few bites and started feeling sick, which was frustrating. When I returned to the bar to address the issue, I felt brushed off, so I asked to speak with a manager. Jasmine (the manager) was amazing. She listened, was kind, patient, and very apologetic. She refunded my order and made the situation right. Because of her professionalism, I would definitely consider coming back. For reference, our total came out to a little over $82. We ordered the half chicken with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies, an Old Fashioned, a rum and pineapple, and the asada fries. Overall, the rooftop atmosphere and private space were great for celebrations. I just hope the staffing improves so others don't experience the same issues we had. read more

I was here last night with my husband for a special bday get away. The restaurant is located on the penthouse level of the Holiday Inn and has amazing views of the city, especially at night time. You walk in and it's the perfect setting for a romantic dinner with dim lighting and candle light setting. Then there is the food!! You definitely feel like you are getting Michelin star quality! We found out that their kitchen staff have gone through culinary school and it shows! We had not enjoyed a plate of food this good in years!! Then there was our server-Miguel! He's a cool dude, with excellent customer service skills and down to earth. He suggested the salmon risotto and the salmon pesto pasta and both plates were extraordinary. This is located on the top floor of the Holiday Inn. I am not normally inclined to try hotel restaurants, but, I heard of the view and the cocktails and well, I wanted to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised! The view is lovely!! There are seats at the bar, high tops, and two and four tops. The view to the west takes in the sunset and the view to the north you can watch the planes. So there is alwys something to see. They also have a fair amount of TVs and some 90s music on. So for ambiance, it's trying to find its way a bit. Sports Bar/fine dining/speak easy. The menu changes seasonally. So keep that in mind. I was super eager to try the French Onion Soup, but behold, a new season. Summer begets the tomato.. I am trying to be more "plant based" in my diet, or at least "less processed". And this definitely for the bill for that. The menu features food that is more local, more fresh and less processed. Which was exactly what I was looking for. For my meal, I was surprisingly ot starving, so I just got some Brussels sprouts. They were prepared with a balsamic reduction, some bacon and a wee bit of cheese on top. They were so good!!! I'd highly recommend them! I was also looking for a lovely cocktail. I saw the images on IG and the like. And in honesty, it was Monday.... So, an Old Fashioned it was. It was prepared perfectly and it was pretty!! I also felt it had a nice pour. For my two items it ran about $30.00. I did dine with my service dog, LongYellowDog. Which didn't bring any issues with the staff. The wait staff (Shannon) was super friendly and honest about the menu and what she thought I'd like, based on my diet, I really appreciated that. She also made sure everything was perfect for me. The hostess was quick and the barkeep was doing a fabulous job too! I'm taking off one star for the lack of identity. We had family visiting and were staying at the Long Beach Holiday Inn, so we decided to dine at the restaurant on the top floor, which offers great city views. It was definitely crowded on a Wednesday evening, but we were seated promptly. Our group of 20 appreciated the separate checks, and it's worth noting that the restaurant is cashless, accepting only credit cards. The bar area had TVs, which was a nice touch for those interested in catching up on sports or news. I ordered the burger wrapped in lettuce with onion rings, and both were good--the onion rings were nice and crispy. My cousin had the Sarasota Shrimp Scampi, while other family members enjoyed dishes like Spaghetti Primavera, Linguine Alla Scampi, Chicken Parmigiana, and Chicken Piccata. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Service was good, and the combination of city views (forgot to take a picture) and delicious food made for a pleasant experience. I will definitely return. read more

It's always iffy when visiting a hotel restaurant, so I was pleased with my experience at VUE. First, the view is fabulous! No matter where you sit, this circular top-floor location is beautiful. The service was friendly. The food was decent. But let's start with the cocktails. I love gin. And Empress is one of my favs, so when I saw a gin cocktail as one of the specials, including grapefruit juice with a salty rim like a spin off a Salty Dog, I bit. But there wasn't much bite to the bark. The beauty of adding citrus to Empress is the color change, but this drink, served in a too-small chimney glass, didn't deliver. Not only on the visual, but the taste. Too much salt on the rim wiped any other flavor out. The good news is, I used some of that salt on my crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer, which made them even better. I ordered the Brussels sprouts as a side--so no bacon or parm as served with the appetizer version, but that's what I wanted. And they were good! Crispy in the outside, tender inside, if not wanting for a bit more sodium. And a bit of parm would have been nice, but I knew it didn't come with that when I ordered them. Next, I had the salmon and pesto risotto with wild mushrooms. It was ok! Salmon was a little overcooked, but still tasty and not-to-dry and it had plenty of sodium. It offered a generous portion of salmon, which I couldn't finish. The risotto has slightly undercooked and a little dry. It had lots of cheese and mushrooms (I think I picked them all out! Love mushrooms!). It was a large portion that I couldn't finish, but I was satisfied. The odd thing to this dish was some sort of sweetness that I couldn't identify. I believe it was a glaze on the salmon, but I seemed to taste it more when eating the risotto. It wasn't bad, just somewhat out of place. I think I would have enjoyed the dish more with less sweetness. Overall, I was pleased with the dinner. I have low expectations when eating at hotel restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised with my meal and experience at VUE. read more

I came here on a staycation. The pretzel was surprisingly good (it had a tad bit too much salt) and the Brussel sprouts were good too. I had the shrimp scampi for my entree. It was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was kinda bland. The garlic bread it came with was pretty good. The view makes you want to stay all night. There was a private party on the side closer to the airport so I wasn't able to sit on that side. Always looking for places to go after work - and last Friday found myself at the VUE. Finally Penthouse Bar and Restaurant. At the top of the Holiday Inn over near the Long Beach Airport. Can't miss it. Look for the cylindrical shaped hotel near Willow and Lakewood right off the 405. Lots of parking. And free. Just don't park in the employee structure. At least that's what one of the restaurant staff told me. Which goes along with service. Kimberly - newly hired did a great job. Attentive. Friendly. Great personality and fun. There were a few others who stopped by dropping off drinks or food but I didn't catch their names As for the food and drink - see pics. Enjoyed the appetizers as I wasn't really there to eat - but to drink. Was in the mood for Old Fashions and asked to have the prepared with Rye. Nice and balanced. Food was good too - felt the shrimp was a little underdone but I'm a fan of Sushi and Sashimi so no worries there. Just hate it when shrimp is overcooked. And I basically inhaled the calamari. It was a good experience with the food and the penthouse view. I had the salmon, which was cooked just right and made me forget about what else I had . We sat around to the northeast of his cylindrical building to see flights coming in to land at the airport from the southwest. The waiting staff was quite accommodating. Food was great. I got a rib eye which was grilled to perfection. I'm not doing carbs so I asked for extra veggies in place of potatoes, which Miguel happily obliged. My BF got the fettuccine. I thought the plate looked a little small considering it was $24. They could have put more pasta. I wouldn't order that again. Miguel was the best part. We told him there weren't enough planes coming in so he said he would call the airport and order more planes. Sure enough more planes started coming in. Lol. He was super fun. This place has a nice vibe as far as decor and ambiance, however the music they were playing doesn't fit. I love classic rock, but didn't really want to hear The Doors, Hendricks, etc. Not to mention the most irritating part was the commercials. Why not use Spotify or Pandora and pay for ad free content? It was just weird and interfered with the overall vibe. I'm not a jazz lover but I think the place calls for more of a jazzy style music. Or even just some instrumental piano or something. Absolutely blown away by the food quality and the service. Fried calamari was outstanding. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. And the marinara sauce was like icing on the cake. Grilled salmon could not have been better. It was seasoned with a combination of pepper and, maybe, teriyaki sauce. I'm not usually a fan of teriyaki, but this salmon was top notch. It's served on a bed of mashed potatoes and topped with asparagus. There's some kind of green reduction on the outer ring of the plate. The flavors come together perfectly. The Vue really does have one of the nicest views in Long Beach that isn't water front. On a clear day, you can see to downtown Los Angeles. I haven't gone to this spot since before the pandemic. They used to have live music, and it's coming back soon. The happy hour specials are affordable and it's freeway accessible!! Gibson the owner or manager is very friendly and pours a good drink. Check out the Gibson cocktails. For appetizers we had chips and Guam, spring rolls and a flat bed pizza. Came for the second time for Dine Out: Long Beach Restaurant is located on the Penthouse floor of the Holiday Inn and is accessible to the public. You do not need to be a hotel guest to experience this restaurant. Once I exited off the elevator, I was greeted with the biggest smile from Randy (who initially hosted the first event when I came) same great service, same enthusiasm in what he loves to do. And that's sharing his love for the food, the restaurant, and the experience. He remembered me from my first visit a few weeks back and definitely made me feel like I was someone special lol I initially came the first time with my sister. So we just had to enjoy the food again and share the experience with our loved ones. let me start out By saying that their dine out Long Beach dinner menu is a 3 course meal, for only $25. I purchased a separate appetizer from the dine hot menu, because I love their encrusted short ribs. Once you cut into the crust, the meat just tears apart and filled with meaty juices and just satisfies that carnivore in you. For the three course meal, I ordered the calamari, the seared scallops, and the bread pudding. My sister and best friend ordered the calamari, the steak frites, and one got the bread pudding and the other got the cheesecake. And my hubby got the French onion soup, the chicken, and cheesecake. Dinner was also served with a basket of breadsticks with garlic butter. And we got complimentary pomme Anna which is literally my sister and I favorite side dish we got to try the first time. Three course meal was definitely more than we could handle and after the appetizer, we Began to just take bites out of everything because we needed to at least try it before we box it from being so full. Honestly the food was so good and the service was great. I am so happy that I was able to share this experience. Beware of Bar Server Attempting to Double her Tip My co-workers and I were getting together and we were there for a couple of hours after work on a Friday. We had a few tabs open to make the ordering process easier. When the bill came the server game me my card back and the card slips to sign. There was the usual blank space for tip and the total. I asked for the itemized receipt and when she produced it, well, the bill already had her 18% tip included! Well, if i didn't look carefully she would have gotten a 38% tip!! (I usually do tip 20%) My other friend's tab bill came later and the same server tried a different tactic. This time, she gave the receipt, and the 2 slips to sign along with her credit card. This time, the receipt was for $150 (with no tip included in her receipt,) but the credit card slip was already rung up for $180,,, And again! with the tip part blank and the total to be added. Hoping we wouldn't be looking, she was looking for a 38% tip again!! The drinks were good and the food was good. No complaints about the experience until we figured out what she was trying to do with the bill. I couldn't believe how shady this was. Keep your eyes peeled! read more

My nephew and his family were in town before departing on a cruise today so we walked over from their hotel (next door) for dinner. We had a group of 8 with two younger children included. We walked in and were first told to go to one side of the restaurant/bar then we were told to go to the other side, when all of a sudden the extremely RUDE bartender yells out in front of EVERYONE in the restaurant "I'm sorry. We can't accommodate any large parties tonight!!" and proceeded to fire off group sizes so we'd "get the hint". Whatever happened to walking over to a potential customer and addressing them nicely and quietly rather than treating us like we were not welcome? We didn't feel like arguing in front of the kids, so we left, got in our car (plus we had to hire an Uber for the rest of our group) to go to another restaurant up the street that was happy to take our $300. That man should NOT be in the hospitality business! And, no, we won't ever go back to this place. We don't spend enough time in Long Beach to want to even go back, and, this was a trip of a lifetime for my nephew and his family. If they ever do come back into town, I doubt they'd want to try this place again. read more
