I wasn't going to write this, but I figured I should so management can be aware and hopefully do better this weekend. I'm not sure who was working the bar area on Sunday, 8/9, around 1pm, but it was the worst service we've ever experienced here. If you were sitting at the bar, you were fine because the bartenders were taking good care of you. But for those of us who had a table in the bar area, they literally acted like we didn't exist. We were sitting for a whole hour without even getting water lol. It took about 25 minutes for someone to finally come over and tell us that waters were coming. We waited, and the waters never came. After about 40 minutes, we finally got a server to take our order. We waited again, and our drinks never came. Not even water! lol My family and I are regular Boathouse customers, so this was really unfortunate. I heard other customers complaining too, it wasn't just us who experienced bad service that day. Came here for the second time with my boyfriend and it did not disappoint! We had a beachside table, live band playing, and mimosas - $20 for the bottle, yay! I've eaten at Boathouse on the Bay several times and the food, service, and ambiance is always meets or exceeds my expectations. The patio is nice and airy with great views. There's also live music on the patio on weekends. The main restaurant has a different but still very nice feel to it. On this most recent visit, they were so busy they weren't allowing walk-in's so we sat at the bar. Sitting at the bar is our preferred seating at most restaurants. We had an amazing time. Boathouse by the Bay is a fun spot that you can take the Long Beach water taxi to if you don't feel like driving. It can be casual or more upscale for events. The staff is friendly. The food was okay. I had the blacked fish sandwich and someone had gotten very over zealous with the tartar sauce so much so that it kept oozing out every time I took a bite. Blast from the past! And 5 stars for our waitress, Malia I used to come here every weekend for their brunch. This was the very first time I've had dinner and cocktails here I made a reservation which was really easy. I remember I used to have to put my card down for the reservations In the past, but this time it didn't make me do that. Went for a Mother's Day lunch. Was very busy but we did have a reservation. Was sat once our entire party arrived. We were originally placed in a booth, but that would have been rough moving around for seconds and thirds. There was also a child with the carrier not able to be fit around the table. Many different friends and I have enjoyed the Boathouse on the Bay over many years for a variety of occasions. This evening ended in more disappointment than pleasure. This evening, a group of 14 friends came for Friday happy hour. Our organizer put down a $100 deposit prior to our arrival to reserve the table. Brian, our server, was friendly and attentive, and the food arrived promptly and at the right temperature. The happy hour crab cakes, chicken tacos, cheeseburger, edamame, and warm bread were all well received. Beer and whiskey drinkers were happy, though the watermelon margaritas, peach martini, and cranberry & vodka were described as watered down. The disappointing part was the payment inflexibility. We were told up to four credit cards could be used. However, when it came time to pay, we learned the $100 deposit had already been charged and couldn't be refunded or applied flexibly. The manager, Brian, stated the remaining balance could be split evenly across up to four cards, leaving us to sort out reimbursements ourselves. Despite several reasonable suggestions, there was no willingness to accommodate our group. Great service from our waiter and good food, but the inflexible payment policy and lack of management flexibility left a disappointing final impression. read more

I sat outside, and even though the weather was cold, I honestly didn't feel it because they had plenty of outdoor heat lamps throughout the patio. The ambiance was truly stunning: warm lighting, upscale energy, and a romantic feel without being overly "stuffy." One of my favorite details was seeing a table with a fire feature in the center and guests were literally seated around a fire while dining, which felt so luxurious and unique. There was also a live band, and the sound quality was so crisp I genuinely thought it was a playlist until I looked up and realized they were performing. Parking was a breeze, which is always a win, especially on a busy Saturday night. My server was delightful, attentive, kind, and welcoming. I started with the clam chowder, which was creamy, hot, and full of flavor. The sourdough bread served at the table was perfectly crunchy and delicious with butter. And the pear martini? A full 5 stars on its own. It was so good I ordered two. This is definitely a more expensive place, but the service, atmosphere, and overall experience matched the price. What I also loved is that it's not just for couples it's family-friendly, and I saw families dining, birthday celebrations, and even regulars. I sat near a gentleman who said he comes frequently, and I can absolutely see why. This feels like one of those stable spots that, once you go, could easily become your go-to if you enjoy great ambiance and a quality experience. Came here Saturday evening. We had a reservation and requested indoor seating however upon arrival the hostess informed us our table wasn't ready but they could seat us outside. While you're definitely paying a "view tax," the quality is top-tier: Lobster Mac n Cheese: Decadent, creamy, and loaded. Sushi Rolls: Super fresh and beautifully presented.
