I just picked up one of my big bosses at the Long Beach Airport and he wanted to take me out to lunch. We walk up to this Boathouse on the Bay and I'm glad I dressed up better then what I usually wear doing field location work. This place looks pretty fancy. I assume seafood is the big thing here. We get seated. The boss says he's been here before and likes the place. One thing I can say, working for this company, they sure don't cheap out on expenses! I'm looking over the menu all while trying to have enlightening and fascinating conversation. The boss say, how bout and order of fries to start, so with the drink orders we add a side of fries. The drinks and fries arrive and I will say, those were some of the best fries I ever had. Then he orders an order of the fried calamari. For entrees he orders the Linguini and Clams and I get the fish and chips. Yeah, I know better than to order the big ass ribeye when you go out with the boss, unless he orders that too. We talk business and stuff, and the fried calamari arrive. I'll say these are damn tasty! Next, my fish and chips arrive along with the Boss's Clam dish. My fish was a nice big piece of real fish filet, not those frozen fish fingers you get at some places and sports bars. Overall, this was a great place for lunch or dinner and has great views. Great food and service! Attended a private event in the Regatta Room. Boathouse does a great job with private dining. The Room has a wall of glass with amazing views of Alamitos Bay! Ot has a private entrance. Great venue for borthday parties and other soecial events. The menu options were very tempting!I ordered the Pan Roasted Salmon and my friends had the Flat Iron Steak. Both dishes were great picks. My salmon was very tender and flavorful served on a bed of mushroom and pea risotto. My once friend mentioned her steak had one if the best flavors she has had. Dessert was a chocolate mousse cake, nice small servings Great staff and food! I had recommended Boathouse for this event so I was very pleased it was a hit! The fish and chips are simply delish!! the sushi rolls were pretty good we had the Three amigo roll and Caterpillar roll. The complimentary sourdough bread is to die for as it comes hot and fresh with whipped butter. We went on a Sunday evening and they had an artist there for entertainment who sang several songs! The atmosphere was so nice on the water and just relaxing!! My only issue was our server who went ghost on us. She just kept passing our table but never asking if we needed anything. I had to flag her down several times to request items. The only time she came back was to ask if we wanted dessert and to pick up the check. I also noticed most of the waitresses had no smiles on their faces and seemed to just look so serious. Located right on the harbor. The views are incredible. There is complimentary parking up to 3 hours too. This was a happy surprise since the restaurant has a prime location. We were seated at our table which was outside and right next to the window. Our waitress was Hillary and she was so cheerful and kind. She was such a great server! We started off with the trio which comes with Brussel sprouts, calamari, and shrimp. It was nice to have a sample platter. For dinner I ordered the seabass and my party ordered the halibut. We were originally placed in a booth, but that would have been rough moving around for seconds and thirds. There was also a child with the carrier not able to be fit around the table. Was happy the servers accommodated us and moved to a more comfortable location. The buffet itself was pretty solid - roast beef, ham, salad bar, various veg and sides. Crab legs, oysters, shrimp, and sushi. Your typical buffet desserts also. Everything was freshly prepared and wasn't dry / old feeling (like how a lot of other buffets can be). The Shrimp was served beautifully but was warm to the touch and the Cocktail sauce was nothing more than ketchup...even after attempts to add horseradish and lemon juice. The ceviche lacked flavor...needed lime juice and Cilantro. The Spicy Alamitos roll was good but needed Ponzu sauce. We ordered another one and asked for ponzu sauce. Worth the Pay at The Boathouse on the Bay I visited The Boathouse on the Bay on a Saturday night around 7:30 PM. Even though I was dining solo, I made a reservation, and I'm glad I did because this place was packed. Reservations are an absolute must. I sat outside, and even though the weather was cold, I honestly didn't feel it because they had plenty of outdoor heat lamps throughout the patio. The ambiance was truly stunning: warm lighting, upscale energy, and a romantic feel without being overly "stuffy." One of my favorite details was seeing a table with a fire feature in the center and guests were literally seated around a fire while dining, which felt so luxurious and unique. There was also a live band, and the sound quality was so crisp I genuinely thought it was a playlist until I looked up and realized they were performing. Parking was a breeze, which is always a win, especially on a busy Saturday night. My server was delightful, attentive, kind, and welcoming. I started with the clam chowder, which was creamy, hot, and full of flavor. The sourdough bread served at the table was perfectly crunchy and delicious with butter. And the pear martini? A full 5 stars on its own. It was so good I ordered two. This is definitely a more expensive place, but the service, atmosphere, and overall experience matched the price. What I also loved is that it's not just for couples it's family-friendly, and I saw families dining, birthday celebrations, and even regulars. I sat near a gentleman who said he comes frequently, and I can absolutely see why. This feels like one of those stable spots that, once you go, could easily become your go-to if you enjoy great ambiance and a quality experience. Blast from the past! And 5 stars for our waitress, Malia I used to come here every weekend for their brunch. This was the very first time I've had dinner and cocktails here I made a reservation which was really easy. She also let us know that she was having to go into a meeting but it would only take about 5-10 minutes and asked if we needed anything beforehand. The service was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Our server had a rude attitude throughout our visit. When we found a hair in our food and brought it to her attention, she simply removed it and walked away without offering any apology or suggesting any solution. We then had to call her back and ask what would happen with the dish and whether we would still be expected to pay for it. She responded with a curt "No," delivered with an attitude. Even then, the meal was only removed from the bill after we specifically requested that it be deducted. At no point did she apologize or show any concern for the situation. To make matters worse, we asked to speak with a manager twice, but no one came. We eventually had to go find the manager ourselves to raise the issue. Unfortunately, he seemed equally uninterested and did not appear to care much about what had happened. Mistakes can happen in any restaurant, but finding a hair in food is unacceptable, and the complete lack of accountability, professionalism, and basic customer service made the experience far worse. A simple apology and some effort to resolve the issue would have gone a long way. Instead, we were met with indifference from both the server and management. Came to Boathouse on Fathers Day for the brunch. Checked in fine but when the hostess handed us off to the girl to walk us to our table, we were not greeted or asked to follow her. When i got here the host walked us to the far corner in front of where we can seethe bus stop. No view pole nlocking where the musician was. I really was annoyed by the sitting but we stayed to not mess my night up. Initially deleted the review as I emailed boathouse directly to see what they would say, but of course, did not hear back. I'm highly disappointed in their lack of reply along with the lack of training when it comes to coordination of tables. We reserved a table for 6 to celebrate a birthday 4 weeks in advance. When taken to our table, they sat us at a 4-top with one side being up against the wall and placing two chairs at the end of the table blocking the walkway. Felt incredibly tight for 6 adults and a bit of a fire hazard. When addressed with the hostess she knew exactly what we were talking about and even said "it's a bit tight, huh?" Why are you asking if you already knew? Also, why seat us there when there were other open tables that needed to be bussed? we would have happily waited instead of having a poor first impression. Food was good for what it was no complaints there. Ultimately the attentiveness of our server was low, we had to ask multiple people for utensils or napkins but server nowhere to be found. My last observation is in regards to cleanliness. This place lacks that especially in the women's restroom. Trash everywhere and overflowing and the toilet paper for you to use was not on the toilet paper holder but actually on the floor. Beyond unsanitary! Photos for reference. Quite the bummer. We order the trio sampler (with 3 jumbo shrimp, Brussels sprouts, and calamari), the heart attack (stuffed jalapeños with salmon, cream cheese, and deep fried), and the crazy albacore roll. To start, we got the calamari it was good, just a bit too soft for my liking, but still enjoyable. For drinks, I ordered the Blueberry by the Bay and it was a little too strong and acidic for me, so I did end up asking to switch it. I got an espresso martini instead it was good, just not as creamy as I personally prefer, but still solid. For food, I tried the Club Sandwich by the Bay it was good, but nothing super special or memorable. The shrimp tacos were also good, but the tortillas kind of overpowered the shrimp flavor. I feel like using yellow corn tortillas would make them stand out more. The mango pico de gallo was really good though and added a nice kick. I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. Our table was seated right in front of the singer, yet we felt completely overlooked the entire evening. We never received basic items like bread, water refills, extra napkins, or even straws unless we repeatedly tried to flag someone down. When our calamari arrived, it was missing something as simple as lemon, and getting our waitress's attention to fix it was nearly impossible. She was extremely difficult to find throughout the night--it honestly felt like we didn't have a server at all. The lack of attentiveness made the whole experience frustrating and uncomfortable. It was clear the outdoor area was understaffed, but that doesn't excuse the level of service we received. On top of that, the food was overpriced for the quality. You're essentially paying for the view, not the dining experience. You're better off at the Cheesecake Factory where the prices match the quality of food and the service is exceedingly better. It was exhausting looking for our waitress. It would've been nice to have a manager making their rounds to voice an opinion to in real time. I also want to mention the hostess with dark brown hair in a low bun, who came across as rude and dismissive for no apparent reason, which set a negative tone from the beginning. My twin sister and I were trying to seat our party together and she just didn't seem accommodating but just dismissive. I had heard great things about a server named Ashley from others in my party, and I really wish we had been seated in her section. Let's just say I would get a regular lemon drop next time. Didn't really feel the pear flavor went well in a martini. Last drink I had from their menu was the dreamsicle. Nope. Call me blunt but there was nothing special about it. I was really happy they had some Scottish whiskey tho. Got myself two Glenfiddich old fashioned. Wife accompanied her entrées with two glasses of wine. Let's talk business now. We got the app trio with calamari, the humongous colossal a** fried shrimp and brussel sprouts. They were all really good. Brussel sprouts should be fried and made more crispy instead maybe? The sauce that's on it is perfect tho. Not too sweet or salty. We also had their their crispy rice tuna. She recommended their porter house steak special that came with two sides(since they were out of the rib eye) got that and ordered the tomahawk for myself. We ordered both steaks medium. Unfortunately wife was kinda disappointed with her meal since they made her $160 plus dollar Steak overly cooked. Almost well done, too chewy and dried. We brought it up to our server's attention half way thru our meal. Manager Sonny I believe, came over to our table to address the issue. Super super cool and understanding person! We showed her the difference in color and texture in our steaks and apologized for making a fuss about it, but we just had to! She talked to us for a long minute and told us she'd give us 50% off on the porter house and asked us if that was okay with us. We told her we were fine with it and again apologized for the issue. Thing is she handled the situation like a boss, super respectful and understanding. She offered free dessert but we declined. We weren't looking to get anything for free. Well for starters I wish I came here for Valentine's Day as the food was delicious. Plenty of parking available and there is typically a wait time to sit outside which in my opinion are the best seats in the house. There is live music outside and a great breeze since it's right next to the ocean. We ended up seating inside as we did not want to wait too long. We had a great server his name was Antony N. He informed us of the new menu and of the new chef which made us try the Pasta and Asparagus which I will say were delicious. My only complaint was the size of some of the oysters. Lol We ordered a dozen but got 7 good ones and 5 that were on the tinier side. If you're gonna charge me $42 for oysters at least let them be the normal size. Sunday Brunch Reservation for 5 adults 2 kids at 12:30pm to celebrate 3 birthdays Requested the patio with the live music Our party was seated at about 1:00pm and indoors without acknowledging the late seating or change with the indoor seating Water arrived at 1:20ishpm One server came by and said I'll be over shortly Moment later another waiter came to our table. There was a wasp by our window inside and they did take care of it promptly. This second server asked if we were ready to order at about 1:25ish pm, we said we would love to but we don't have menus. She was very kind and apologetic and had menus come out to us a few minutes after that. By 1:30pm, an hour after our reservations we had put in a request for an appetizer... The brunch menu is strict no modifications. There was a hair in the mocktail, lipstick on my water glass. There seemed to be two servers running the indoors with large parties so seemed a bit chaotic to keep up with. They both served us so it created confusions with orders being made and which were changed. We were patient but with two little ones hungry, it was tough. We paid our bill and finished by 3pm which was not the original plan. Seeing reviews now, we probably should have declined to stay when we were seated late and didn't get basic service at the beginning. The food was not that great either for the wait. While the service was struggling and timing had issues, the waiters were very apologetic and kind to us but given the memorable experience, I wouldn't recommend at the moment. They did deduct items from the menu given the hair and other issues. The birthday cheesecake was delicious, maybe just get that and gtfo while the management gets its act together. Fancy ambiance, Tummy hurts after though maybe greasy burger and fries choice, omelette was good...great for photos. Service was slow, togo boxes were forgotten, water refills slow. read more

I made reservations at The Boathouse in advance, but when we arrived, my reservation didn't show up in their system. Thankfully, the staff was still able to seat us fairly quickly, which I really appreciated. The place is so calming near the water and with live music. It did take a little while before a server came to the table. We started with the appetizer trio (Caramelized Brussels Sprouts, Breaded Jumbo Shrimp, and Fried Calamari). The Brussels sprouts were the star of the night perfectly caramelized with glazed walnuts, absolutely delicious! For entrées, we ordered the Pan-Seared Salmon and the Boathouse Roll. The risotto under the salmon was creamy and flavorful, though we would have preferred the sauce on the side since it was a bit heavy but still tasty overall. The Boathouse Roll was good, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would definitely come back, especially to try their brunch menu. I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I came here on a weekend to enjoy brunch with friends and to have a nice view. The positives were the view of the water and sailboats and the restaurant has a nice upscale look but that's where it ends. The parking lot is very large but can get full on the weekends. The tables were seated very close together and the environment was so incredibly loud that you had to scream across the table to talk to your friends. Once the live music came on, I gave up on talking. The entire restaurant had a musty smell to it like a dank basement. As we sat down, we got some mini muffins on the house as appetizers. The blueberry muffins were fresh, the chocolate ones were not. The chocolate ones were very dry and stale, definitely been sitting around for several days. I ordered the Boathouse omelette ($22). Portions were decent but the omelette tasted like it came from a carton of liquid eggs as it had a spongy texture. It was also overcooked. The potatoes that came with it had an earthy, muddy taste like they hadn't been washed. I wasn't able to eat them. I can't say that I enjoyed my meal here and won't be coming back. read more
