The space is small and cute and so are the portion sizes lol I came here with my family for FFD (Family fun day lol) and we had to wait for about 10 minutes for a seat. The owners were there and they are really hands on in the business. They were friendly and nice and answered the questions we had. The food was't seasoned as well as it should've been in my opinion. The mac and cheese was covered by a very thick layer of cheese and it kind of resembled lasagna. It needed a hint of salt. I had the crab roll, and for the price, I expected more. It was also missing something. Maybe a house sauce ? It just seemed like crab meat pulled from crab legs on a lightly buttered toasted roll. So, I used to LOVE this place but it has become really evident that customer service isn't their strong suit and neither is food safety. My go-to is usually the spicy shrimp. Recently I ordered on Uber Eats, the shrimp as well as a side of cornbread and broccoli. Chile...what arrived was crab legs with 4 little shrimp. I called the restaurant and the manager basically said it was Uber's fault. That's a lie, because the Crabby Shack employees are the ones who BAG THE FOOD AND STAPLE IT SHUT. The Uber courier is blameless as they cannot open the bag to check the food. They never remedied the situation and told me to call Uber. The cornbread looked scorched and tasted like a$$. Just ate a great lunch from the crabby shack and it mostly kept up with my expectations. The establishment itself is able to seat about 15 patrons comfortably. I had the Mac and cheese sans crab meat, cornbread, and 1/2 pound of steamed spicy shrimp. First, that Mac and cheese could definitely be bigger for the price, but dogdarn it, it was MOIST, CHEESY, AND DELICIOUS! I want to run back right now for another helping. Next, the cornbread-- ooo, what a delight! It was buttery and savory with a hint of crisp at the edges - SUPER MOUTHWATERING! The shrimp was delectable after I made a bonafide mess splitting the shells. The sauce had some kick to it that I also liked. (Note: The shrimp is placed in a bag for pickup). I knocked off one star because I did not think having one cashier to handle all the pick-up orders and in-store orders worked very well. Wish there was a bit more organization in that department. I've been meaning to review this place for quite some time now. My early days in NYC were filled with many shifts in the service industry, and much to my husband's chagrin, I can never forget those days, as my senses are on high alert for EVERYTHING when I enter an establishment. Crabby Shack is one of our go-to spots on days consisting of casual strolls and stop-and-go treats. It has never failed to be a positive experience. While we enjoy all of the staff, I have to tip my hat to their back of the house, because they always appear to be most calm and professional. Regarding the front of the house, there's one young lady (Tiffany) who has remained most pleasant AND professional. I've watched this woman in the day- and night-time, and the care she takes with the place and customers is just plain commendable. Also, as a gay couple, my hubby and I often brace ourselves for not-so-friendly service that can reek of homophobia, but Tiffany has always embraced us with a warmth that owners should definitely be aware of. Speaking of owners, I remain so proud of the women who've maintained this place. It's nearly 2 hours after I ordered Crabby Shack from Grub Hub. I called in just to double check and make sure my delivery guy didn't get lost. Gave them extra direction on how to make sure he reaches me. The girl responds with, "You can tell him yourself, I'll have him call you." I thought this was rude to say that. I never received a call to my phone. They say they delivered to me, rung the bell etc.. But I've been waiting, starving and nearly sitting in silence to make sure I wouldn't miss it. I haven't heard a peep from the door or phone. I have no problem with miscommunication, my problem is that even when I called the first time, the food was at the hour mark with nothing in sight. When I called back and they said they already tried to deliver and was very defensive...which caused me to get defensive. I could hear the workers in the back mocking me and talking about me as if I couldn't hear them. Again, that was very rude. I cannot tell you how the food was because I am still waiting on it. And when I griped about waiting on it, the cashier said, "You only had a crab roll and taco!" As if the money I spent was small and me waiting to eat was no big deal. I usually order the same thing but every time I venture outside of my comfort zone on the menu I am so happy I tried the... crab and corn chowder, the crab blt with avocado, or the clobster roll . As you can tell I grew up with a feeling towards crabs. Reasonably priced and a nice limited bar (they always stock one good vodka, gin, rum, tequila and cognac selection) along with a variety of beer and wine. And you can't forget the atmosphere- they always have great music!
