While they were nice, it seemed like the waiters were a bit disorganized. I waited 40 minutes for my beef pancake appetizer and another 15 minutes on top of that for my spicy seafood soup. It was cold outside that day and the interior of the restaurant was as well, so it was not a very comfortable wait. The food here is A-okay. It definitely upholds fundamental Korean flavors in their soups/ramens. If you're familiar with Korean soups and Asian flavors, then you'll find the spiciest level to be very comfortable and not actually intolerably spicy. LOVE THIS FOOD! Cannot count the number of times I've eaten at Crazy Noodle. Their ramen is my basis of comparison for all other ramen. The flavor of the broth, the heat level (they let you select mild, medium, or hot), the generous portion of the protein, veggies, noodles, egg, etc. make theirs the one to beat. With all of that, who cares if the noodles are not made in house. Besides, they use great noodles and they cook them to perfection. My absolute favorites are the Mandu Ramen soup ( I mean c'mon ramen noodles AND steamed dumplings all in one soup!) Curry Ramen soup, Yukgaejang soup and Kimchi Ramen soup. The soup portions are LARGE. I usually bring home leftovers. Kimchi Jeon appetizer is the bomb too. The place can be described as a "dive" in the good sense of the word. It's quirky and quaint. Cute murals on one wall and on the wall of windows the window sills are lined with little plastic characters of all sorts (action figures, animals, etc). Quirky like I said. Crazy Noodle is a small place with a small staff and THEY COOK YOUR MEAL TO ORDER so expect to take your time. Save the experience for when you aren't in a rush. You can't really taste any sesame and the veggies weren't refreshingly pickled like they're supposed to be. The meat was also bland. Kimchi jeon: wasn't as crispy as I wanted them to be but it may be due to being in a to go box on the way home. Mandugook: I've seen some reviews saying this soup was bland but with the egg and the beef dumplings, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the soup. It was a flavorful but light broth that was super comforting. The meat inside the dumplings was seasoned nicely and wasn't rubbery or overcooked. The dumpling wrapper didn't really hold its integrity in the soup but I don't mind that. I do wish it had more rice cake in it though, it only had like 5-8 slices in the entire soup. I have tried several times to let this place redeem itself. While the food is ok, the service is HORRENDOUS! Be prepared to wait an hour or more for some premade noodles in broth. Yes I get were in a pandemic, however it's close to being over. Waiting OVER an hour for a small (2 orders of ramen) order that was placed online was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Not to mention they initially couldn't find any history of my order being placed, but my card was already charged. My husband and I were in the mood for noodles and we decided to stop by for dinner. We got there as soon as they opened so we were quickly seated and service was quick. I guess that's the way to get quick service and a place to sit! The menu has a decent variety and everything has pictures and a good description which definitely helps a lot! We ordered the Bi-bim noodle with chicken, the curry noodles, and the Seu-Joan. Our favorite was definitely the Bi-bim noodles!! It's a really cool atmosphere! Cute and eclectic. Howevs, the jajangmyeon didn't have the sweetness that most jajangmyeons I've tried had. Like zero sweetness. The tteokbokki is really spicy and has good flavor. Only change here would be to use the stick rice cakes and not the discs. But that's preference. Lastly, I think using a better quality noodle in the ramen would make it so much better. The noodles seem super low quality but the broth was good. We arrived 20 minutes before our scheduled time, they sat us immediately with no other customers inside the building, once they were leading us to our table the kitchen staff started complaining , then once sat our waiter came in and said "we told you guys 5:45" in a aggressive tone and stomped off in a childish manner. The curry ramen (w/chicken, potato and peppers) is so delicious I can never manage to experiment with something new! And as someone who doesn't like runny yolk, I LOVVE how they do the egg here (a la egg drop soup). The fried dumplings (mandu) are a great treat while you wait for your ramen - which you should plan for. Efficiency is not the name of the game here, but it's worth it. For starters, they only serve beer. I think we all know how I feel about that. That being said, you can bring your own wine for a $3.50 corkage fee. Just wish I had known that before I got there. I hate dining without my wine...does that make me a wino? Perhaps. I will say that the server was extremely sweet and kind. However, she was clearly overwhelmed. It appeared there was only one person in the kitchen and only one waitress (not good with a semi-full restaurant - people were at 7 out of 10 or so tables). I ordered the Jam Bong which was extremely spicy and needed some more water ASAP!! The waitress was MIA for awhile so I had no choice but to go look for her. She said she'd bring water but it took 15 minutes and 2 reminders to actually get it. I was sucking on ice cubes to keep the fire at bay. Aside from that, my food was delightful. I like the inside porch area but it was a little chilly. I kept my jacket and scarf on the whole time. I've reflected quite a bit on that night and I think they just need more staff. As a shamless noodle lover (in college, giving up noodles for Lent meant saying goodbye to nine half-opened boxes of various pastas), I'm thrilled that Memphis now has a proper Asian noodle shop. Crazy Noodle, which opened this week, is located in the old Umai Space on Madison. It's owned by Ji Choi (the sister of the woman who runs the Kwik Check next door) and features an expanded, Korean-inspired menu that goes beyond the Kwik Check's bi-bim-bap. My dinner date and I decided to order entirely too much food and split everything. We started with a side of fish-jean ($4), a plate of five crispy-fried fish patties circled around a small bowl of mild chili sauce. Though it's listed as a side item, it's perfectly suited to be an appetizer. For dinner, we ordered curry noodles, Jap-Chae and a bowl of noodle soup that I think was called Ja-Jang noodles (sometimes, I get so excited about eating that I forget to write things down). The curry noodles ($8.99) are thin, Ramen-style noodles that are served cold, plated next to, but not quite under, a spicy brown curry. The idea is that the curry sauce will warm the noodles up. The curry has diced potatoes, bell peppers, onions and chicken. I really liked the Jap-Chae noodles. They reminded me a little bit of Pad Thai in consistency. The soy-based sauce clings to the rice noodles, which are topped with mushrooms, peppers, onions, sweet potatoes and sesame seeds. The Jap-Chae noodles aren't super spicy, but they've got a lot of flavor. Curry noodle from Crazy Noodle, Memphis, Tenn. The best part of the meal was by far the Ja-Jang (I think) noodles ($9). I really wish I had taken better notes. The name's not important. What you need to know about this dish (which is pictured at the top of the post) is that it's a hot pot of happiness. The bowl comes with thin white noodles, diced bell peppers, tender mushrooms, potatoes, onions and ground beef in a spicy, red broth. The spice isn't outright - I ate a few bites before I realized that the soup has a lingering slow burn aftertaste that's not at all unpleasant. Crazy Noodle's atmosphere is pretty casual. The kitchen is exposed, sushi-bar style, and you can watch the cooks work if you sit in the front room. The main dining room has a wall of colorful graffiti and the bathroom is wallpapered with pages from Asian newspapers. Crazy Noodle is open 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday and from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday. They take credit cards, and most of the menu items are less than $10. read more

I finally ate lunch here for the first time, right before thanksgiving, and I absolutely loved it! The main part of the restaurant where the kitchen is has high tables with stools. I prefer tables with chairs so I sat in the lean to addition. The room was nice and had some great artwork in it. The shoddy ductwork really takes away from the appearance. Also the waitress was sweeping at eleven (I was her first customer) and I asked if the night crew didn't clean yet. She told me the lighting is inadequate for cleaning at night. Ok. I'm not sure how many roaches and rodents they have, but this would be ideal for them. So I ordered the dish with raw tuna, and it was not only delicious, but the appearance was expertly crafted and designed. There were samplings of different vegetables and the fish was of utmost quality and taste. She was also very generous on the portion of fish, considering what you receive for the price of sashimi at other places. The dish, however, was not enough to fulfill me. Now normally, when I spend $10 on lunch, finish it, and still want more I feel cheated, especially if there is a similar food around town that is a better value. That wasn't the case here though. Considering the cost and price of sushi and sashimi elsewhere,I felt this was a bargain. What I ordered next was a tilapia appetizer that looked like a salmon patty. Patties are usually mixed up fish, while these were whole pieces that had vegetables and jalapenos mixed into the breading.I thought it was brilliant. The waitress ( young black lady) was a great example of everything a waitress should be. I wish she was at every restaurant I eat at. She gave me a warm welcome, was polite, but not intrusive, and more than willing to help. She seemed to really enjoy serving me. Way to go! I really like the simplicity of your menu, and the pictures were a great aid in helping to make an ordering decision. You realize that most of your customers are not as familiar as you are with your food. I found the whole experience to be easy. I also loved the amount of heat that was applied to the dishes. It may be too much for some, but I love it. The silverware chop sticks really add another element to the experience. I remember all the restaurants in Seoul having these. It makes the wooden ones seem so cheap. So far you have five stars. It was when I went to pay and thank the cook that I noticed that the ceiling, the ductwork, and the exhaust hood were not only dirty, but literally have large pieces of dirt hanging down. There is paint peeling and falling off the ductwork. The exhaust hood is painted and should be stainless steel to clean properly. I deduct one star for this and your inability to provide enough light to clean at closing. Inexcusable. I wanted to take pictures if this, but wasn't able to without drawing attention. 8/23/16. Kinda Crazy if you don't like this place. Some negative reviews are posted for slow service, our service was a bit sluggish but no deductions necessary in the rating. The food makes up for any delay, and hey why not spend a few more minutes talking together? Bond people. I had the Yuk-Gae Jang "Beef, turnip, bean sprouts mushroom, onions, green onions served in a spicy beef broth", it was crazy good! (and no, I won't stop doing that for the duration of this review). Also tried my gal's Curry Noodle (chicken, potato, carrots, onions, bell peppers cooked in a curry sauce), Jam Bong (squid, shrimp, beef carrot, mushroom, zucchini, cabbage, onions served in a spicy chicken broth). Everything was so full of flavor and love. Our server clued us in that menu items labeled "Cold Noodle Dishes" aren't really cold, they are cooked like others but contain some cold ingredients. I came here for lunch with my boyfriend. We came around 11:30pm on a Wednesday and it was empty. We ordered the Bi-Bim Bap noodles, crazy noodle soup, and tofu jigae. Each dish is about 10 dollars and the soup noodles come in this huge pot. I enjoyed the crazy noodle soup, partly because it was the least spicy of them all. It was a good hot dish on a rainy day. I also enjoyed the bi bim bap noodles. It was very chewy and had a good mixture of meat, veggies, and pickled veggies. I didn't try to jigae because it was too spicy but my boyfriend enjoyed it. My experience with this place was horrific. When I was first ordering on the phone (COVID times as there is no dine-in), the guy taking my order has an impatient tone, sighing after any question I ask. Then after I pick up my food and arrive home to eat, I have one of my cringiest take out experiences of my life. I ordered the ramen, and as I'm eating I feel something tickle the roof of my mouth and not breaking down like the other noodles. I reach in my mouth and end up pulling a FOOT LONG DARK HAIR out!!! I entirely lost my appetite after that and made myself seriously question the cleanliness standards of this restaurant, as the first rule of cooking in one is to wear a hair net or make sure hair doesn't fall into the food. If that's not bad enough, I talk to the same guy on the phone calmly and politely saying how I found a FOOT LONG HAIR in my food, he tells me I would have to talk to his boss since he isn't authorized to give me a refund, and "she's really busy." After extensively explaining how disgusting it was to find a hair like that in my mouth while eating their food (as if it weren't obvious enough), he puts me on hold for 5 minutes, and upon return I don't even get to speak to the manager or boss. He asks me if I saved my receipt and once I find it claims to have voided the order, and if it still shows up on my bank or credit statement, contact my card company. I LOVED my lunch here and I only regret that I didn't return the next day for lunch again as I had planned. I picked a phó place instead, which turned out to be a yucky choice, so I wasted my last day to eat at The Crazy Noodle. Bummer, but I fully intend to hightail it back here the next time I am in Memphis. I originally stumbled upon The Crazy Noodle because I was searching for a phó restaurant when I landed in Memphis. However, the Yelp app kept directing me to TCN in my search and I decided to give it a try (plus Midtown has quite a good assortment of local restaurants, so it's always a good bet). I could smell the mouthwatering aromas from the parking lot - meat sizzling, sesame seed oil, spices and stir-frying vegetables. Yum. TCN is very cute, with outdoor seating and a big cooking area out in the open where I perched at my hightop table and watched the owner cook my lunch. The eatery kind of reminded me of a tiki bar - you have to visit to see what I mean. And the decor is funky, they have kids' toys from the 90s decorating the tables. The menu is kind of an abbreviated, fresh spin on traditional Korean, and the items I chose from it were deeee-licious. As the owner/chef pointed out to me, she uses a lot more fresh veggies and doesn't offer those predinner dishes of Ban Chan. The service was very friendly, and I came during a slow period, so I didn't wait long for my food. Both the server and cook were quick to accommodate me: I only wanted half of an order of beef man du and so she fried me up and charged me for just two crisp, delicious little golden pockets of beef dumpling, served with dark, fragrant dipping sauce. My meal was as fresh as I could hope for. I watched the chef/owner sautée chicken, blanch noodles, and wield her knife like a boss chopping up vegetables. I was served a huge dish, the Crazy Bi Bimbap noodle bowl with chicken. It was a perfect combination of saucy, crunchy, cool, creamy, spicy, hot - and the flavors were so good together! I recently came here with my fiance' and his brother's family. This place is such a cute little find. Their decor is super eclectic and it almost makes you feel like you've stepped into a different world. My only gripe with this place is that it takes a loooooooong time for your food to arrive. Make sure you come with good company who can engage in good conversations because it will be a hot minute before your food will arrive. They do have an open kitchen, so you can see the workers cooking non-stop and ferociously, and not just sitting around re-tweeting Justin Bieber memes, so the wait time is legit. I got the seafood ramen, which had the perfect kick to it and actually had a good varying amount of seafood in it. Despite the 90 degree summer heat, I slurped all of it's steamy goodness with no regrets. One of their friends came in and he got his food with in 10 minutes, which tells me It shouldn't take that long to make soup. My first review was too kind. I don't get the big deal about this place at all. And when you leave here you and everything you brought into the restaurant will smell like grease. The waitress is the worst, she's always rude and unfriendly and you basically serve yourself.
