This place is all about the history. There are nicer, more modern hotels in San Antonio, but this hotel and area are well maintained historical sites that are best appreciated with this in mind. Our room was very clean, well appointed, with all of the expected conveniences of a modern room, but still retaining the old style charm. The bed was a bit on the firm side, so be prepared for that. Shower and bathroom featured the hottest water I have ever encountered coming out of any faucet, which made for absolutely splendid showers, that was very awesome and unexpected. Though the room was nice, I feel like the common areas is where this hotel really shines. The decor in the lobby and other spaces are beautifully appointed, but maintain the charm of an older time. The Crockett Tavern is a very nice restaurant/bar, featuring country classics and live music, and is also well appointed. Parking is valet only, and it's super convenient with in/out privileges, but one can get to a ton of cool places just by walking, this hotel is situated literally right by the Alamo and the Rivercenter mall, with the Riverwalk and other attractions practically within steps of the hotel. This is a great place to stay and take in some history, check it out! read more

Our room was 80° all night long. When we spoke to the desk about it, at 4:30 am, we were told that Texas is hot. I've stayed here faithfully since 1995. This will be my last stay at the Crockett Hotel. Makes me sad. read more

We had such a great time at Crockett, but that's mostly because of the historical relevance of the hotel and the AMAZING staff! I considered giving it 3.5 stars as the amenities aren't the best here, but you're charged a parking fee the same as hotels on the Riverwalk that have better amenities at the hotel and better parking. However, the bump to 4 stars is earned because the staff really is fabulous, the restaurant is solid in the hotel, you can get coffee and sandwiches downstairs (paid, not free) in the AM, and all the stories on the walls and history was fascinating for my kiddo who just learned about TX history at school! The room was solid. The hotel is older, but it had character and was definitely in solid condition. Again, not a ton of amenities here, but you stay for the historic relevance and the character. We had so much fun just walking around the hotel and discovering new fun facts. While this isn't as nice as some of the newer hotels, that's OK. This hotel is exactly what it says it is, there are welcome kits for kiddos, and it is in a great location. I felt very safe and secure in the hotel, and the beds were comfortable enough for a couple of nights. While the amenities aren't the best in the area, we would absolutely stay again. read more

The parking situation is horrible and not communicated correctly, they basically force you to valet. If you try and park yourself it was more than triple the cost. The valet got in a verbal altercation with us over misinformation between him, hotel staff and us. Understanding this is an old hotel, I expected a little better on the rooms. The decor & carpet are in desperate need of replacing and the smell. The faucets leak, water is brown, and our sheets had holes in them. Hotel wasn't what I expected and service was horrible me and my husband stayed for the night and kept getting multiple unauthorized charges on his card .. they told us it would be refunded with no exact explanation but we were understanding and waited patiently . A month later they make another transaction of 200$ , my question is .. is why ? And how if our information is supposed to be taken off once checked out . This was a nice surprise and a wonderful historic hotel stay. We booked this last minute and did not realize the Alamo was right behind the hotel. We could see the Alamo and the construction of the Alamo Visitor's Center right outside pir window. This was not the fault of the hotel but the construction noise was slightly annoying in the morning but we had to get up anyway. But a warning for those who like to sleep in. The hotel room was a nice large size for a family of four and had a great view. The location is great and walkable to go shopping at the mall, souvenir shops, as well as the Alamo of course. Parking was pricey at $45 overnight. There are other parking garages nearby, but unsure if they offer overnight parking. read more

We absolutely loved staying here.Rooms were little on smaller size, but expected as the hotel is older. The bed very comfortable, pillows were plumpy and plenty on the bed. Shower wad no problem. This hotel has a restaurant which was wonderful. Food was great, service superb. Everyone is so friendly. Also Offered live music that made it even more relaxing. Would not stay here again. Carpet is disgusting in room 501. Dust build up around beds and baseboards. Who ever picked out paint colors were picking from baby poop swatches. Nice size refrigerator in room. New toilet. Beds comfortable except one has a squeaky cricket sound. Noisy location to traffic on Commerce st. Will be better when construction is completed around Alamo. Nice location to walk to Riverwalk and other locations. We heard this hotel was renovated perhaps they are not done. The fire alarm went off early morning and we hustled to take the stairs. The staff was nonchalant and said it was a drill. They never cleared the drill. Acted like guests were supposed to know what was happening by osmosis. Not a good way to start the day. No help available to assist with luggage. read more

Older property but clean. The hallways on the 5th floor smelled somewhat musty, but our corner room was nice & spacious. King bed fairly comfy. Lots of street noise at ~7am but it was a weekday and we had to get up early so not an issue. Parking was unsurprisingly high at $35 for the night. Their cafe served a great chorizo, egg, & cheese wrap along with Starbucks = a great start! The good: The hotel is steps away from the Alamo, the Riverwalk Mall, and some really good eateries. The staff is kind and if needing something will accommodate. The hotel itself is pretty, the lobby is comfortable and interesting. There's a restaurant onsite that is good for a quick late night meal. The not so good: The parking was EXPENSIVE. We paid $45 per day. There were very little options to park anywhere else. We also were discouraged to parking elsewhere. There's no true breakfast at the hotel, they have a small coffee shop that sells expensive muffins and such like Starbucks. Nothing was included with our stay. We were on the second floor, which meant we heard every word of the singer downstairs in the tavern. Loud music until 11 pm each night. Also, and this is not the fault of the hotel, there is construction currently going on at the Alamo, so every morning about 7:30 am, the sounds of a construction crew comes blaring through. Hotel is old, bathrooms are a bit dated. Rooms are not cleaned during the stay unless you arrange that with the front desk. On another note: there is an outdoor pool area by the parking attendant. No gym in the building, but they have an agreement with the hotel across the road. Overall, our stay was good. We don't look for much in a hotel, just as long as it's clean and safe. We ate at the Tavern onsite a few times and the service was really good. They have live music outside Thursday nights through the weekend. The food was flavorful as well. You have to appreciate how old this hotel is, so those complaining do not give much latitude for that. They do not supply housekeeping if you are there for less than four nights but are happy to hand you whatever you might need in addition at the front desk. Best & first three star I've stayed in. A very last minute hotel pick that I am very pleased with. PROS: -Complimentary 24 hour valet with the hotel with unlimited - VERY VERY walking convenient to everything. Alamo is less than 2 minutes, the river walk was less than 5 minutes with easy walk though to the river center mall. -Quiet moments and very friendly staff. -specialty restaurant (tried the pecan pie, but that's another story & review ) CONS: -Zero natural light for some rooms. We didn't know we booked an interior prior to arrival. So our only view was the lobby. Can be very loud at times, couldn't tell the time of day. The building is over 100 years old and heavily retrofitted. The theme is rustic in the lobby but not the rooms. With quaint tiny elevators and cobblestone main floor. The room lacked black out blinds and the water pressure on the 3rd floor was woeful. Small and thematic thru out. I probably would have enjoyed the period theme in the room had it been there. The cost was very competitive unless you add the mandatory $40 per day valet parking charge. All and all, you had best wear your hat and boots while staying. read more

We loved our stay here!! Right in the middle of all the action and walkable to so many things. We did not use our car the entire time we were here! Bonus points for a yummy, well stocked breakfast and free happy hour drinks and popcorn! I loved that our room overlooked the Alamo gardens and that we were in such a historical place. Gorgeous plantation shutters on all the windows and a beautifully shaded and secluded pool area. My son and I really enjoyed our room and it was a bargain during the heat of August during a Texas summer. I recommend booking directly through the hotel's website for some great discounts and offers. We were well taken care of here and loved being so close to all kinds of activities, shopping, restaurants and of course the Riverwalk! Yes the hotel is old and I did notice some things in our room that were in need of updating but the location, staff and historical feel more than made up for that. Hmmmm, when I don't know how to rate, I tend to overrate. What makes this place better than okay is the staff, oh and the location. It is central to all things downtown San Antonio. The room is small, dated and old. Not like old south, but old 1990's and there is a strange picture of a cowboy on a horse with the horses butt facing me. There is one long mirror. The room is just dumb. Everything above the main lobby area looks old. Now the lobby and main floor, that area looks great! There is a tavern and many places to sit and have coffee, read a book or do computer work. The staff allowed us an early check in but we couldn't get a late check out b/c they were "booked solid" for the weekend. I never believe that but okay. We did leave our luggage at the front desk while we had coffee and tacos for our final meal. Would I stay here again, probably not. I learned quite a bit about Davy Crockett while I was here, so no. I forgot about the smell. It smells really really old and wet or musty or something. Smells like a beachfront hotel. I don't know, come at your own risk cause my review is all over the place. To say my husband and I are disappointed is an understatement. I am 8 months pregnant and I planned this trip on January 23, 2024. Essentially it's our baby moon trip and we're history geeks. We knew this hotel would fit our needs and based on reviews we were sold. BUT I was informed today, 3/18/24, that our "reservation has been canceled due to inventory of the hotel". TWO DAYS before our flight and stay with this hotel. Finding a hotel TWO DAYS before any stay is either going to cost an arm and a leg or you'll have to settle for less than what you originally wanted. The hotel offered to accommodate by discounting a future stay. But why would I stay somewhere that canceled my booking TWO DAYS before my arrival. Just warning all future guests to take caution when planning a trip in advance here. They might cancel your reservation TWO DAYS before you arrive. read more

First impressions: Our GPS took us straight to the entrance and parking lot. You have to pay 25 dollars whether you are doing a valet service or self-parking. I'm used to valet service and it's not a different price than self-self parking, so it's a good time to try it out if you've never done valet. I have to say that Eduardo, the desk clerk, was very very affable. He consistently referred to me by my last name, inquired about my trip from home to the hotel, and asked if I had questions about the surrounding area or hotel while we waited for the computer to catch up with things. I did ask a question about the hotel and he knew the answer right away. He informed me that my pre-paid room (Hotwire.com) was a room facing the inside of the hotel. He then said, "Let me see if I can find you something with a view." Our room ended up facing The Alamo! The room is small and quaint, but has all the necessities we need for a weekend. Pssstt, hey, don't stay here! I don't leave bad reviews, but this is more of a P.S.A. this place is so loud and BRIGHT. I am here now and super disappointed. You can hear the music from the downstairs restaurant crystal clear in your room. It's LOUD! They don't have curtains, so it's not dark by any means in the room. I frequently San Antonio, the Menger across the street is SO much better. The Marriot Riverwalk is another good option. I was excited to book this, but I am really kicking myself. Historic hotel. Musty smell throughout. Elevators are old and rickety but function. I only used the stairs. Outdated, small but functional 70's style room. Our room faced the indoor courtyard - if you have a room facing the courtyard you will have a lot of light in your room due to the wooden blinds that you can't completely close. There will be music. Gets louder at night. Had 2 experiences with our lights turning off and on by themselves. That was weird. The AC cranked cold too hard and you hear the noise of the AC every time it goes on and off. We kept hearing the door next to us getting slammed - complained to front desk only to find out it was where the staff got their towels and supplies. Slamming of the door continued . We requested a room change and got the "best room" in the hotel- it was large and updated - but it was also located above the bar. Band stopped playing around 1AM. However, The food at the pub was delicious. Hotel is located across the street from The Alamo and a few blocks from the Riverwalk, which is convenient. Hotel staff are friendly. Positive-The Hotel is downtown and staff is very polite. The A/C is nice and cold so that's a plus, but the system sounds like a 747 jet when it kicks on. Negative(s)- Thursday-Saturday no Room Service any of the days. I left around 9am one morning and saw housekeeping across the hall. I was skipped yesterday so I asked kindly to not forget my room, well she did. WIFI-God AWFUL, I had to use my hotspot to stream during my stay. Starbucks in the hotel is bad. Soggy overpriced sandwiches with a very limited selection of food items. I'm not going to knit pick every little thing, but the hotel is old and "historic" so don't be taken back from the old elevators which inspired me to use the stairs all weekend(got my steps in). Also-if your a Brady Bunch fan you'll appreciate the decor in the rooms and the outdated bathroom. ‍‍ Then I text valet as instructed and an auto text responds advising no valet is available. I go down to valet and she hands me the keys to go retrieve my own vehicle. $32.00 a night and that's how I'm treated. I suggest going elsewhere in San Antonio-don't stay here. read more

We just returned home from a vacation in San Antonio. This hotel was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and there were plenty of towels. The Tavern food was delicious. We are from Buffalo, NY and the wings at the Crockett Tavern were better than a lot of places in Buffalo. The Alamo is across the street and Riverwalk is also right there. Wonderful trip! read more

Ok well here we go. I guess I should go pro and con. Pro: 1. It is very convenient to locations Downtown. 2. Staff is very nice and very helpful. 3. Everything looks clean. 4. Rooms are quiet for the most part. 5. TV selection feels good for local selection of channels. Con: 1. No fridge. No microwave in the room. To be fair, that might have just been my particular room? 2. A/C is very loud when it kicks on and off. 3. My room was very spartan. Not bad, just something to point out. Felt very basic. 4. My biggest issue was that the sheets felt like they didn't fit my bed. As someone who knows they toss and turn, I ask for a make up on the bed due to being warm overnight. Upon return, while looking nice, the sheets barely seemed to hang on to the mattress. The wrinkles got worse dur to the sheets feeling too small. 5. Breakfast? Other than the Sta#%$&@ based café in the bottom floor, offering a $8+ BEC and $4 tiny juice, I guess I missed out. That have me just missing out to be fair though. 6. Do not expect anything fancy. 7. Wifi? Overall, I would stay again based on the price. Its a historic place and convenient. Staff was great. There are better options downtown and if simple things like a fridge or microwave are important than look elsewhere. read more

My husband found this hotel at an amazing price on the Hotel Tonight app. It's right across the street from the Alamo!! Sweet! We had a corner room. Lots of space with a view of the Alamo. AC was wonderful, since it was humid outside. Free breakfast in the morning was kinda cool. The usual breakfast food plus tortillas and beans and along with regular eggs, they had eggs with sausage in it, which was different for me to see in a free breakfast. The beans and eggs with sausage were tasty and really good. You can also make your own Texas waffle!! This is a must have when you stay here. When in Texas I say. I definitely recommend staying here. Breakfast was a full spread of scrambled eggs, sausage, refried beans, waffles, bagels etc. WiFi was fast. AC & TV worked well. There is a coffeemaker that we didn't use. Bathroom was a good size with fluffy towels. Location is excellent. Walking distance to Riverwalk, Alamo and San Fernando cathedral. There is something special in staying in a hotel that is over 100 years old. There is also something special about being in a hotel right next door to the Alamo ... Texas holy ground. That makes for a very special experience at the Crockett. The rooms are quite spacious, especially when compared to a "modern" hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. Our bed was a bit on the firm side for my taste, but the bathroom was nice, and we had great water pressure, and all the hot water we wanted. The hotel also has a small, well appointed bar that is nice and quiet. It's a great place to relax over a drink after a busy day in the city. They also have a small swimming pool that we did not use. Spa services are available at their sister hotel around the corner, the Menger. They have a breakfast buffet that is offered free to the guests and it is better than what you would find in most hotels. The one comment I would have is that the coffee should have been hotter. The carafes they use didn't retain the heat very well, but the food quality was very good. All in all, this is definitely a great choice when choosing a place to stay in Downtown San Antonio. This is a good hotel in a good location right next to the Alamo So it was really easy to get around to everything. They say the place is haunted with the soldiers that died in battle here. As a group we decided to pay for the valet parking during our weekend stay so we could come and go as we please There are only two elevators for guests. Dollies are available for use so you can bring your luggage to your room but it is a tight squeeze in the small elevators but it fits And it's better than carrying your luggage yourself. Beds rooms and bathrooms were all clean. Sheets crisp and clean. Room carpet looked vacuumed. There was no old musky hotel smell which happens sometimes with older buildings. Coffee machine is provided in rooms with appropriate disposable cups for coffee. There are real glass glasses provided as well Usual toiletries shampoo conditioner and soap are provided. Towels were in excellent shape with no stains Breakfast in the morning was good. Cereal and milk bagel and cream cheese scrambled eggs and sausage pancakes and waffles coffee was very good Only one thing you should be aware of there are NO refrigerators in the rooms read more

Wow! This is an absolute gem of a hotel right in the middle of historic San Antonio! The hotel is situated right across from the Alamo and the Riverwalk. So if you want to explore San Antonio's history without having to go far this is the place to stay. Not only do they offer a prime location the hotel itself feels both modern and antique. It's very large and open inside and the details around the hotel make you feel as if you've stepped back in time. The room are spacious, clean & offer a great night's rest! We all thought the beds were very cozy and were a great place to crash after the day's activities. In the morning they offer a well rounded breakfast with options including eggs & bacon (not just all carbs)! There is also a bar inside the hotel called Ernie's which was a nice place to grab a drink without even having to leave. I also have to give a big shoutout to the hotel staff who were amongst some of the most warm and inviting hotel staff I have ever encountered! They helped our group settle in nicely and gave many recommendations for the area (so it was like having your own personal travel guide who knows the area well). Extremely disappointed. I haven't stayed here since before Covid and everything has changed tremendously. For the worse. Be prepared to pay $40 per day for (not covered) parking on site or find something just slightly less that you'll have to walk a distance to or use an Uber. It's ridiculous. Also, you don't have a choice for the valet service. No discount for parking yourself like they used to do. It's a complete scam. Don't let the rude little valet punks intimidate you either. Do NOT give them access to your vehicle until after you check in and decide where you're gonna park. We decided on the mall parking garage. It's in decent walking distance and $30 for 24hrs. The hotel itself is very cool because of it's historical status and location right behind the Alamo but it offers no common conveniences. You pay extra for EVERYTHING now. $5 for a cup of coffee in the morning at their new little coffee shop. They used to have it free in the lobby area. The room is fairly decent for it's age but there is no longer a microwave, the a/c gets cool but not cold (it was over 100 degrees outside everyday) and the safety chain on the door is broken. The desk staff were nice but the valets outside were rude. They used to even bring your luggage cart in for you but not anymore. Heads up, they charge an extra $100 on your card for "incidentals" without telling you first. So, I wouldn't recommend staying here but you should certainly swing by for a visit. read more
