Was walking by in the morning just checking out the area while visiting. I was surprised to see them open for breakfast and I got a brisket egg and cheese biscuit which was phenomenal. We had this catered 3 times before and each time was amazing! Pulled pork 10/10: I loved the charred ends and the juicy insides, so tender and flavorful Tri-tip 8/10: Not a huge tri-tip fan but the flavor was good, just a little tough for me. The best tri-tip I've had was in SLO Firestone grill, melts in your mouth! BBQ chicken 15/10: Wow the meat literally fell off the bones, amazing flavor and soooo juicy. Usually I would be more into red meats for BBQ but this was delicious! Hot link 8/10: so juicy and mild spicy but anyone can handle it! Pork ribs 8/10: really flavorful but not as much meat as other spots and not as tender either. Brisket 10/10: Just like the pulled pork, so juicy and tender! Potato salad 8/10: Not sure if they added relish or pickles but I liked the tang it had. We had leftovers so microwaved some 2 days later and still so good! Located in the back corner of a very cute outdoor shopping strip we stopped here on our leisurely drive down to San Luis Obispo. Was taking my parents away for a weekend trip and even though they never say they are hungry, hangry runs in the family and once we are hungry, we are unable to express that we are hungry. But this place was perfect and they were so friendly and the BBQ smelled amazing. We ended up getting the combo meal with 4 different meats so we tried the brisket, the tritip and the pork ribs. This was an unexpected pleasure! To find real and delicious bbq in Carmel was a treat. The smokers were spewing out a tantalizing aroma of sweet smoke. Two of us shared a 3 meat combo. The chicken was a leg and thigh, juicy and fall of the bone. The rib were perfectly done, little tug to release the meat and a section of char that reminds you this is meat cooked over coals. The brisket was fork tender and had a lovely smoke ring. The coleslaw was good and the potato salad was made fantastic with the addition of some of the spicy bbq sauce. Service was quick and friendly. They are doing a good take out business. They have a sign out front that made me laugh. It is a q & a about why they sell out of some items. My husband and I decided to try this place out because it has good reviews & it was decent. First off, the customer service was good, they just had one guy taking orders and one guy cooking (it was 6pm when we came + it was on a Tuesday so it was pretty slow). Our food came out quickly, less than 7 mins I'd say. My husband enjoyed his meal, mine on the other hand was not good, the sides were alright but the chicken pictured last is all pink on the inside the top was white but then it got pink and I lost my appetite. I had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. The (ciabatta-esque(?) and square) bread was hot, toasted, and really good. The pulled pork was fine... a bit chunky for a sandwich since a couple large bits kept falling out of the bun. But flavor-wise it was good. The "Hogwash sauce" (mostly just a spicy vinegar) came on the plate in a small cup. I just poured that over the pork... it adds a little flavor and a little heat, but not too much on either account. I ended up adding some of their regular BBQ sauce, which was fine but nothing to write home about. And that brings us to what they called coleslaw. Think of it more as coarsely-diced cabbage lightly spritzed with vinegar. It feels (and tastes) like a lazy preparation. Worse, it will not stay nicely on the sandwich, and it adds zero flavor to speak of, only texture. If it was shredded, and had a bit more vinegar and some mayo mixed in, it would be about 20 times better. But this was a solid disappointment that I would never order again. In the end, I came, I tried it, I probably won't return. If this was the only barbecue you've ever had, you probably would be satisfied. But I've had better at several other places on the planet. Found this place after a hike in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and I am so glad I did! I tried their two meat combo which came with two small sides for ~$25. I was recommended to try their Pork Ribs and Beef Brisket and both were AMAZING! I also really enjoyed their potato salad and Mac and cheese! Disorganized with hits and misses on the food. The person helping us seemed very distracted and not really interested in what he was doing. Might as well replace him with a self-service kiosk since he added no real value to the process. They ask for your number when you order so they can notify you when it's ready. We were done eating when we got the text so lucky for us we were keeping an eye on the orders as they were set on the counter otherwise out food would have sat there for 20-minutes. We ordered drinks but were not given cups and when we asked the food person about it they seemed very confused and it took some time to find someone to help because the guy that took our order was no where to be found. The brisket was pretty bland (no smoke flavor at all, tasted like it was done in a crock pot). I'm guessing it had been cooked days before (they were not smoking meat the day we were there) and then re-heated and that really ruined it. I was starving but only ate half my sandwich. The pulled pork was really good. You could see the smoke ring/bark on bits of it and it had the proper taste. Their sides should be called tasters because they are so small (likely 4oz). The meat was very fatty and grisly, undercooked to the point that I thought it would make me sick. Not sure what type of meat it was. The bread was very doughy on one side and grilled on the inside again like a garlic bread. The BBQ sauce had a hint of hot mustard (who puts hot mustard in BBQ sauce) so they call it spicy.
