This place is PHENOMENAL. We ordered the brisket, with potato salad and beans for the sides. It came with two big pieces of garlic bread for free! The brisket came out cooked perfectly, and their BBQ sauces are to die for. Literally every single thing was top notch. Went to this spot last night and had a Santa Maria salad with cornbread. The Tri-Tip was perfectly cooked where as the salad was extremely fresh. I'm not the one to like cornbread but man that cornbread was perfectly butter. Don't forget the honey! I tried the Crossroads BBQ as I usually have to drive to Gilroy to find good barbecue. The decor is decidedly gloomy--very dark and with poor lighting and they have moved some tables away from the windows. (WHY??) When you have to pick up your own order and the food is served in disposable containers, they shouldn't be trying for atmosphere. I needed more light and some color. Plates, even paper ones, would be nice. For some reason, the napkin-silverware roll doesn't include a spoon, so when I ordered beans, I had to go back to the counter for a spoon. I ordered the "pork ribs," which appeared to be St. Louis style although the meat was pretty thin on them, so they must have come from skinny pigs. The meat had a good flavor, but the ribs come slathered in their sauce, and I prefer to add sauce myself, especially since the sauce is so sweet. There are only 2 choices of BBQ sauce, but they both taste the same, just one is a bit hotter. They are both quite sweet, and you have to go around the corner and fill little plastic cups with sauce instead of having squeeze bottles of sauce on the table. They should add a couple of sauces. And put them on the table. And put some salt and pepper on the tables. The ribs came with two sides, but there were only three to choose from: potato salad, beans, and Cole slaw, so I took the beans and potato salad. The potato salad was OK, not great, and the beans were good but tasted like they had the same BBQ sauce in them as the ribs had slathered on them--a bit sweet for my taste. They need to at least add mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. A vegetable would be good too. Just saying. The people who work there are very nice and came around and asked how everything was, but I wasn't about to give them a list of what I see as drawbacks, so they would be better off giving out paper surveys. I will probably give them some time to see if they up their game and try it again, but I'm not planning to give up my trek to Gilroy any time soon. read more

I've been here a few times now and have been blown away every time. Food is great and service is great. I've even reserved the banquet room for my sisters birthday, everyone had a great time! Not great but not awful, came in only before my coworker didn't want a burger from a few doors down. The line was backed up orders taking forever. I ordered the Ragin Bull sandwich Large it was basically like $20. First bite the meat was dry and hard let me know how the rest of the sandwich was going to be. I asked for a cup of water and I heard the girl in the back running the faucet. I don't get how an establishment like this can't have filtered water or even lemon water. Beside the long wait and tuff meat the barbecue sauce was pretty good. Just by the meal I received I can't say I will go back nor recommend. I liked my food and the blues was enjoyable. I had the brisket and tri tip combo with beans and potato salad. I thought it was flavorful and tasty, but salty on the bark. I couldn't eat much of the beans because they were too spicy for me - no they are not sweet bbq beans. My hubby had the pulled pork and rib combo with beans. He also thought that the pulled pork was good except for the bark part that was too salty, and the ribs seemed a tad fatty for his taste. He liked the beans a lot! read more

A new restaurant we wanted to try because it was barbecue so we drove over to Carmel on this rainy night and I have to say the restaurant is very pretty nice decor, good menu. We ordered ribs, tri tip and bbq chicken so that we could taste most entrees. The pork ribs were ok, tri tip was a little dry and the chicken wasn't cooked enough. The old Business here closed down and we found this new BBQ place in it's spot !! The people are very friendly and the location has mixed parking, it's in the back of the crossroads shopping center at the end of the 2nd tier. Now lets start by saying I love Brisket, it's hard to find brisket and most of the BBQ places don't use a smoking pit, castroville had a in ground BBQ pit and just walking in the store made you revert back to cave man times, the smell was oh so good ( closed now ), but most of the new places use the indoor smokers. So here is my run down... The layout is strange right when you walk in the door they had a sign that said were are out of these items... I missed it and only saw it when I was standing in line and looked to my left and saw it on the side of the soda refrig, so I brought that up to one of the people working saying you guys need to find a better place for that like on the front door when you walk in or behind the counter. The menu is ok, but for the life of me I didn't see the combo meat part on the menu, so I would highlight or make a section for th combo's, since most people like to get multiple meats, like brisket and brisket and ribs ;). The other thing I would change is show the size difference between the Reg and Large Brisket sammy. I mean for 4.00 more and I get double I would have paid that ! So the layout ( it's strange ), pickup counter is to the right up front and the soda, sauces, and those items are towards the back, you feel like your walking behind the counter, but your not... your going past the front counter and around, so I suggest arrows or tape on the floor for us people with the munchies who can't understand strange layout logic. The food, I liked the ribs and they used what I think is a sweet dry rub, and the Ribs and not sure on the brisket.... OK I am picky, but I didn't like the smoke ring or lack of and while it looked like brisket, it had a tad taste of corn beef or something, but the bbq sauce fixed that quick, it fell a part and on bread I bet it was great. This place is in Carmel and in the cross roads, so expect to pay a tad bit more for food and drinks, it's not to bad but it's more and the portion sixe was good, the 2x brisket was almost to much for me, I also selected the cole and beans and they give you bread, but next time I will ask for grilled bread. A new establishment, Crossroads BBQ was able to prove to me that it's here to stay. With live music, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere, this was a great choice for dinner. The decor here really makes you feel some good ol' Texan barbecue vibes. The food is quite good. After ordering the ribs with side of garlic bread, I only had to wait a couple of minutes for my order. The ribs were cooked beautifully, with a sweet, tasty sauce. While the garlic bread could've had more flavor, I overall thought the food was delicious. As a local who has eaten at just about every restaurant in this area, it was nice to find a new establishment that brings in a different kind of food than most restaurants here, and also excels at making that certain food. They also have Andes mints for at the end of your meal, so that's definitely a +1 for them as well. read more

There are some things that are great, others not so much. I got the 2-meat meal with brisket and pulled pork, 'cornbread' (srsly?), coleslaw, and potato salad. I thought the brisket was cooked well, tender and slightly juicy, but bland. The pulled pork I loved, with or without sauce it had more flavor than the brisket. I loved both the coleslaw and the potato salad, homemade delish. The 'cornbread' was barely corn-tasting, and under-flavored vs mainstream cornbread. If there's a next time it'll be garlic bread. Lastly, I'm not a fan of the vinegar-y BBQ sauce, but that's just personal taste. Maybe if I add some sugar to it... The prices on a few things, size of serving vs cost, are ridiculous. I'm a big bread pudding lover, but would never pay that price for that whatever-it-is in the pic because it's not bread pudding. Eww. I agree with the person who said that overall, considering all aspects - just okay covers it. Some great food and some blah or weirdly inappropriate food and a bit of a rip-off not taste-wise but the amount you get. Not sure if I will try again. Brisket and tri tip was very, very good. Chicken and ribs were good but nothing too exciting. They have two bbq sauces, regular and spicy, they're a bit on the sweet side which I'm not a huge fan of but they were good in moderation on the tri tip. The sides were pretty standard, not bad but you don't go to a bbq place for sides. The garlic bread was good, I think it's grilled ciabatta. I liked the way they didn't sauce it but left it up to you if desired at the table. The ribs? Not as impressed. The meat was not fall off the bone but rather chewy. They need to work on this one. Took my family to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and we were really craving BBQ. This happened to be the only place in the area so we thought we'd give it a shot. Went with their 2 meet option brisket and pulled pork plus close slaw, beans, and a piece of garlic bread. Was a bit skeptical to try que in Monterey but I was very pleasantly surprised. The meat is Smokey and moist. Sauce on the side where all great including the vinegar based sauce for the pulled pork. I'm not a fan of chopped style cole slaw but I did eat it all as the flavor was very good. The beans are crazy good. I order online through their website for 11:15a pickup on our way to Big Sur. I get there and the guy says he doesn't see that the order is ready, wait a few. I wait over 20 min and ask about it again. They finally figure out that they never made it and make it on the spot. I finally get my order 40 min later and get a barely audible sorry. What's worse is that the guys putting the order together isn't wearing gloves and I watched him do chores throughout the restaurant where he should have at least washed his hands. After all of that we get to the spot we are going to eat and find that the bread to the kids meal is missing (confirmed by the person answering the phone when I called to ask why the kids meal is just meat and a bag of potato chips). We are already in Big Sur at this point so my child just ate chips for lunch even though we paid $9.40 for him to have a meal.
