The short: this place has fallen off post Covid Service was egregious from beginning to end. When I arrived the staff told me I did not have a reservation, they could not find it. (I had proof of the reservation). I eventually was seated after an embarrassing and unnecessary hassle. When I was seated, the manager who was the only positive part of my experience spoke with us about booking the outdoor space for a friends marriage proposal. He was very gracious and helpful HOWEVER.... 20+ mins had gone by with nobody else from staff taking our drink order or even acknowledging our existence. We had to ask to be helped. The whole time we were there the staff was extremely inattentive, if we needed anything we had to get up and ask. They all seemed confused, inexperienced and disengaged. To the new management I would ask, do you want to be the typical rooftop that overcharges for mediocre drinks and people pay the price simply because the want to take picture of your view? If so, your already succeeding. If you want to be the type of place that people actually go to for a good experience I suggest you revise that basic/novice food menu and drastically improve your service. The manager mentioned a $75 per guest minimum was coming which can easily be commanded for the view they offer but if the food is trash and I'm only there too drink I probably don't need 4 drinks to meet that minimum. I should want to eat your food if your forcing me to buy it. Because I can go anywhere in NYC for exceptional food as opposed to pay top dollar for what is reminiscent of store bought chips/pitas/guac. read more

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful establishment. I've been to 30+ rooftops in New York City over the past 10 years or so and I have to say the views here are in my top 3 and it's not 3. It's located right by Manhattan bridge so easy for folks from Brooklyn or Jersey to get to. However, the parking here sucks ass but there's a lot downstairs not too far from the hotel. A few things to note if you want outside seating without a table minimum come during the week and come early. Go to other parts of the restaurant there's a front, middle and BACK where you can see all sides of the city, Jersey and Brooklyn. I mean sweeping views like make you wanna cry. The picture really doesn't do it justice. The drinks were really good and the snacks were okay but who comes to a rooftop for the snacks? The staff was attentive and attractive and so were the patrons! After celebrating my bestie's pre-birthday brunch at Rice & Gold, we walked over to the elevator that takes us up to the 21st Floor. There was a podium where a guy checks your Ids then stamped your wrist. The elevator was quite tight space and it freaked me out because we are going up so high man. There was a full bar right in front of the elevators and two doors that lead us to the rooftop. We moved around from one spot to the next to get a better view. Look at those fluffy clouds. Definitely limited cushioned tables so you either wait for someone or a group leaving. There are servers take drink orders but we were just merely enjoying the beautiful view and chilling. Bring a sweater or jacket just in case because it does get windy. Overall very convenient if you are staying in the hotel because you got a restaurant downstairs and a rooftop. This hotel is surrounded by a lot of eateries. I definitely will be stopping by =) read more

I love this rooftop!! Super classy and the view is amazing. The rooftop faces north so you see the empire state building, Chrysler building and the rest of midtown. There's couches and seats to relax on first come first serve basis. The FROSE. omg it's sooo good and they give you cups you can actually hold the drink in without your hand freezing off. And they hook it up as well. After two, I was feeling goooood. It's like $18 with tip but that's typical for NYC rooftops. You're paying for the view is what they say, which makes sense. I'm so glad this bar opened back up after COVID. Used to come here a lot when they had their restaurant on the first level with cool decor and a bar. As far as I know some of the staff that worked there moved or continued working up at the rooftop bar. The restaurant was amazing. Overpriced Chinese food but the presentation was out of this world. That restaurant is now a video game place called The OS. The drinks were good. Staff very friendly and conscientious. View is unbeatable. Make sure you have a reservation before you come in. They want to make sure they have more than enough space to safely accommodate everyone who wants to enjoy this place. read more

After meeting for dinner, we decided to come here to get drinks on Thursday night. Enter through the restaurant, Rice and Gold, and take the elevator to the top. We were greeted by the host, who helped check-in my bags. There is a big indoor space and a nice outdoor space. What a view of midtown and Manhattan Bridge! We didn't stay outside since it was humid plus the linen couches were wet due to the earlier rain that evening. We hung out by the bar so we can refresh our drinks and catch up with friends. There were patrons but wasn't crowded so we moved around easily. Drinks are a little pricey but worth it for the convenience and view. Definitely a great place and great view to hang out. read more

I recently had the Celebration of my Husband's Life at the Crown Rooftop. Everyone loved the food and the amazing views. When I returned last week to show my out-of-town guests the venue, both Nesha & Alex were so welcoming & treated us to drinks & hors d'oeuvres. Nesha runs the show & Alex is an excellent bartender. They are both very professional & very welcoming. I recommend having your event here. Unfortunately, Max, the audio visual person was incompetent. Despite meeting with him beforehand to discuss his part, the microphone did not work , you could not see the slideshows & he was unable to play the music I selected. I'm a big fan of rooftop bars and this place definitely goes on my "must visit again" list. If not for the views and hospitality, for the set up of the spot itself. I walked in around 5:30 on a Thursday afternoon following the work day. I took the elevator up to the rooftop and was surprised to see how empty it was. There were a few people at the bar and maybe only one or two parties seated. I set myself up at the bar and ordered an IPA and casually read a book while enjoying my drink. This place is quiet enough that you can read a book at the bar, but also nice enough that you could bring a friend here to catch up over drinks. The view was astounding as well! Unobstructed from canal street, you're able to see midtown clearly, as well as FiDi behind you. I can easily see this being a go to spot for many during the warmer seasons. While in NYC, my friends and I wanted to try a rooftop bar so we can enjoy drinks and a view of the city lights. We were recommend by a friend to try this place out on a Sunday night, which was not packed with a good DJ, giving it a relaxing and smooth night atmosphere. The Crown has 2 balconies, with beautiful views of the city, although one of them was closed for the night for cleaning. We also decided to try their drinks - the night market, the resting peach face and the Long Island. The drinks were pretty pricey (18$ each + tax & tip), didn't taste so good with the taste of alcohol overpowering the whole cocktail. Overall, the views and the atmosphere at the Crown were great, however the drinks were on the pricey side and simply tasted okay. If you're willing to splurge on drinks for the view, then this place is worth checking out. read more

I saw this place listed as "one of NYC's best rooftops" so came to check it out. To start with the positive, the hostess was extremely accommodating and allowed to switch our originally indoor reservation to an outdoor one, which was nice! In reality, the seating outdoors is really sparse/unremarkable, so when you go at night, there's really nothing that makes it special: just a plain seat and a plain table with a singular candle. Also some weird red lanterns hanging by the balcony edge which cast a strange lighting on people's faces and overall were just a strange choice, considering there was barely any other decoration. The most disappointing part were the drinks; there was NOTHING on the drinks menu that had more than ~4 ingredients in it. They were the most standard, basic, could-make-this-at-home drinks that I have ever seen, I had such a hard time even deciding what could possibly be worth trying. And they were $20.....If you want unique drinks that actually make you feel like you're having an experience, try a speakeasy like Angel's Share in East Village. If I'm paying $20 for a drink, I kind of expect to be blown away. read more

Wow. What a spectacular time we had. I went here in a group of 6 for my brother and sister 21st birthday. Our waitress, Christine, took such great care of us. She was so kind and had beautiful energy. The cocktails were delicious! I had the espresso martini! My brother and sister had the Summer Lemonade! Our friends revolved between shots and other cocktails. We were all blown away by the hospitality, the view, and deliciously crafted cocktails. I will definitely be going back! My favorite rooftop by far. Vibes are always impeccable. View is perfect - just gives you the best feeling seeing the city from that angle. I love going at night in particular. I went for my birthday last year and again last night. I keep going back. They do charge $50 usually but it goes toward food and drinks and is easy to spend all of. The Crown deserves two stars because 1) it's a great rooftop with unobstructed views of the skyline. Some design choices - like the branded bat signal - are a bit cheesy but who am I to judge? 2) the food and drinks aren't half bad. Ok, now for the not-so-fun part. I'm docking three stars for the poor service, ineptitude and automatic 20% tip - LOL they must know the service isn't worth that. When our party was seated - and note that we made a reservation online where Covid rules usually are stated - the host told us that they ask everyone orders at least one food dish. Guys, this is a drinks spot and we came here after dinner. Now I know NYC mandates each tab has at least one meal attached, but making us order four plates that we don't want is ridiculous and drives up our bill for no reason. Once we ordered our first round, we barely saw our waitress. She was horrible. We sat waiting for her for over 15 minutes to ask for our bill but please remove one of the drinks that never came out. Guess what she did?? She brought the drink out and not our bill! Honey, we wanted to LEAVE your establishment, not sink more money into it! Ugh. I will not be returning to The Crown. As far as views go, it's hard to find a better one than The Crown. Lots of rooftops in this borough tend to be in Midtown. The problem with that is, some of the most legendary odes to architectural wonderment are in Midtown itself, making it tough to take in the famous skyline when you're sitting smack in the middle of it. With The Crown being as far south as it is, you get a chance to see the entire Midtown skyline with ease, not to mention a nearly 300-degree view of the rest of the city as well. Of course during the summer and on big going out nights (Friday/Saturday) you're likely going to encounter people that you might not otherwise like hanging out around. But bring your own crew and don't let bridge and tunnelers or fist-pumping Goldman Sachs bros ruin one of the best new elevated hangs on the East Coast. read more

Been partying for the past 20 yrs, all over the world, at some of the most exclusive & swankiest clubs. Never been treated so poorly til I walked up to this joint. After dinner in Chinatown, a group of 20 friends ventured over to The Crown for drinks. Approached front of line and met a dude, with spiked hair, from Australia? Looked like he just rolled out of bed and went to work. Not a good 1st impression. Anyhow, asked if we can check out the rooftop bar. He said it was extremely crowded up there. Then rudely told me, since you have a big group, it's going to cost $1500 for a table. Seriously? It's a rooftop bar NOT a high end LV club. Furthermore, he was selectively profiling, charged entry fee for one group and free for others. Wtpho!!! After a heated exchange, we left. He was a total A-hole!!! Went to 230 Fifth Rooftop instead. Got 2 tables with an amazing view of the Empire State bldg & dropped some serious cash!!! Best of all, we were treated like royalty at 230! I've seen many great clubs, lounges, or so call hotspots fall from its heydays. 1st lesson in mgmt, the customer is always right or at least appease to their requests. Visiting my friend in New York City, she brought me to The Crown to enjoy a drink with a view. Located on top of one of the hotels, The Crown had a nice outdoor patio area with comfy seating in which we could take in the views of the city. They had a DJ playing music in the background which was nice and the patio was quite crowded but we did manage to grab one of the sofas. We came in the afternoon but I'm sure this place would be even more stunning at night. The drink prices were a little steep but I have come to expect that when I come to New York City. It cost $18 for a glass of Pinot Noir. They did have an indoor lounge and seating area as well but since it was such a beautiful day and I was there to visit my friend and see the city, we opted to sit outside. read more
