The Cuban has great service. Came here once for brunch and once for dinner. Brunch was excellent and they have a nice brunch menu. We were seated upstairs because they had a large party downstairs. They have a fun Happy Birthday presentation as another table was celebrating someone's special day. The dinner food was tasty, BUT, everything was a bit overly salty and it made me very thirsty. I am not sure if it was an off night or if the food is normally so salty. We may give it another try in the future as I do love Cuban food. read more

Made reservations via Open table for a brunch for 5. We arrived and only had to wait 5 minutes for a table. CoVid friendly -they took our temperatures when we entered and followed proper seating and mask guidelines as well as equipped each table with hand sanitizer. I really wanted to give The Cuban a chance, but my birthday brunch here was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I had heard mixed reviews, but I figured I'd give it a shot. BIG mistake. I was actually embarrassed my friends had to experience this on my birthday as well. From the start, the staff were incredibly unwelcoming. It was a quiet day, with only one other table in the restaurant, so I really couldn't understand why they were acting so cold and unwelcoming. We had opted for the bottomless brunch, but they tried to cut the 90-minute window down to just 60 minutes--totally unacceptable. When you're paying for bottomless, you expect the full experience, not rushed service. They would also ignore us when we would try to order more drinks during our bottomless time frame. The food? Disappointing at best. It wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't anything special. I was so over the whole experience that I didn't even want them to sing happy birthday, which normally I would enjoy, but the staff's attitude had completely killed the vibe. I had read a few negative reviews before coming, and now I completely understand why. Despite not being busy, the service and food quality were subpar, and it really set a terrible tone for my brunch. Needless to say, I won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I took my husband here 2 weeks ago on a date night because he hasn't gotten the chance to try it yet. We were seated promptly. Our server was really friendly and attentive. We decided to try a few apps - the guacamole, avocado stuffed with crabmeat and the coconut shrimp. They handmade the guacamole in front of you which was a nice & fun little addition to the experience. All the apps were delicious! Honestly everything on the appetizer list looked so good we had a hard time deciding - so at the end of dinner we said we'll just have to come back again to try some more! For dinner I had the paella - the flavor of this was out of this world good. I raved about it as I ate it. It's the best paella I've ever had so far. Cooked to perfection and so fresh tasting. My husband had the ropa vieja, it's his favorite dish and he's gotten it at quite a few restaurants we've been to. He said this was better than even his favorite restaurant's version of it. My husband was reluctant and he told me to be ready for a disappointment. Food was just terrible, mojito didn't have any liquor, at $14.50/glass. The music was too loud. Historically, previous business owners had focused on catering to the bar crowd - but despite covid starting relatively soon after this restaurant first opened, it held its ground through the pandemic and continues to flourish. It was ultimately about twice as long as DoorDash had initially stated. Things were made up by the time we got our food and drink. The half-pitcher or mojito was quite alcoholic, so we did water it down a little bit, but that circumstance is better than having the opposite problem! My Puerco Frito flavoring was great. The decor of the Cuban is artsy and adorable in brilliant pink color. You definitely won't miss it when you walk along Bell Blvd in Bayside. The food at the Cuban is delicious. Truly delicious. The shrimp empañada is flavorful and crunchy on the outside. The shrimp embullo is so flavorful. I'm not a big fan of olives but with how great the dish tastes I just eat them along with all the other goodness. My only complaint about the dish is I wish it came with more rice. The two times I've ordered it, I find the remainder of the delicious sauce on my plate with no rice to soak it up (or bread). They also serve this yummy little bread before entrees. It was kind of strong but I realize more and more that I am a light weight and would like to taste NO alcohol at all in my alcoholic beverage lol so don't mind me. I ordered the pernil, and my girlfriend had ropa vieja with white rice and black beans. We also got two virgin piña coladas to drink. The drinks were fantastic--delicious and perfectly made. My pernil was fresh and flavorful, and the rice was cooked just right. My girlfriend's ropa vieja was equally delicious, packed with flavor and freshness. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. For dessert, we shared a tres leches, which was just as fresh and delicious as the rest of the meal. Everything had a wonderful homemade taste, and the creative décor really gave off an authentic Cuban vibe. They sat us down immediately but while we were waiting for our waiter another couple sat down after us and i noticed they were served immediately!
