I come here very frequently because I just love their appetizers and drinks. But Friday night was my first time going where I saw that they were under new management. Brian was extremely professional and took such great care of me and a friend of mine. It was my friends first time and recommended we try his special Coconut Mojito drink (which was STRONG AND DELICIOUS). He checked in on us multiple times. Two-words; Holy Crap! This place was so great. It's located on a busy block in Bayside, Queens so i expect to park on a side block. There wasn't a wait and the outdoor dining was really nice. The manager at the door downstairs was slightly rude when we showed up late to our reservation. I called way before to let them know that we were unaware of the street festival going on which really held us up driving in circles. We finally parked in a metered lot and walked a few blocks over. Overall we had a nice experience. Our waitress was kind and attentive. I was disappointed when she told us they had no bread as I love their bread. We all enjoyed our meals. My husband and I went with our best friends for lunch. We sat outside but had to move inside because it was way too hot, the staff was very nice, our server, was wonderful, I didnt catch her name but i know she is from Venezuela. My husband gasped when he saw guacamole and quesadillas on the menu lol. We ordered the croquetas, which were not bad, creamy and warm. The mariquitas were a bit on the stale side, but ok. The chicharrones de pollo, different than what we are used to but great flavor, that was our favorite appetizer. For our lunch, I also try the cuban sandwich wherever I go. Plating was a bit sloppy, sandwich not pressed well, bread shouldnt fall off the sandwich. The pork tasted great. The yuca fries are interesting. I took half my sandwich home and pressed it, then i loved it. My husband got the picadillo, it was ok, white rice and beans also ok. For dessert of course I had to try the tres leches, it was fine. Have now been here a handful of time and have enjoyed the food and ambience every time. Earlier in the year I preferred eating outdoors and they made the seating comfortable. They also have brunch and regular food items. Each time I've gone with groups of 6 or more and they were able to accommodate us. Service was also good. I love that they have a nice mix of meats and seafood. You can make most people happy here. I also love the black beans. The tostones rellenos with picadillo are delicious and the mango mojito definitely had liquor in it. You can feel a buzz with their drinks. I also love the empanadas. The Cuban in Garden City is one of our favorite spots to eat Cuban food in Long Island, so we were pretty stoked to have them open a spot close to home. They have definitely adapted to these times and can accommodate a few people to sit outside the restaurant. The food is good as usual and the service is great. The food here was delicious! We tried the calamari, crab cakes, guacamole, oxtail, and paella. The crab cakes were a little under done but other than that, the flavors and food was amazing. They do table side guacamole which is always nice! Although I came to try the paella, I must say that the oxtail was the star of the show! It was unbelivably soft and so packed with flavor that I even spooned the sauce onto my paella rice! They did a beautiful job of maneuvering outdoor dining with a FULLY FINISHED outdoor dining booth! Other restaurants around the block just placed chairs and erected some umbrellas but they went all out. They have tastfully planted plants all around the booth (real and live!), they put down some carpet coverings on the street so it feels like a finished dining area, each table is covered with removable paper so it feels fresh and clean when you sit down. I am glad to have given this new restaurant a try. It is definitely on my list of spots to eat at again! read more

Colorful addition to Bell Boulevard that opened in May. A friend and I recently came here for curbside drinks. They have an extensive drink menu (includes frozen drinks like pina coladas and daiquiris too!). I had a strawberry daiquiri and my friend had a mojito and they were delicious. We ate some authentic plantains and fried yucca while we sat outside on one of the couches they had set up and just had a relaxing summer evening taking in Bayside. Restaurants aren't allowed to have indoor dining yet, but the inside is gorgeous, with large screen TVs and fantastic portraits of famous Cubans/Cuban Americans. The service was timely and excellent. The owner, Spiro, is super nice and accommodating. He cares that his patrons are enjoying themselves and are satisfied with the service. We did not get a full meal, but I would definitely come back for the authentic Cuban cuisine. Great experience, highly recommend! read more

Where do I even begin? I live in Bayside and order out locally often. I've ordered from this place before and not had an issue. However, I ordered from here today for my birthday lunch via Grubhub. Ordered a coconut shrimp DINNER, garlic shrimp DINNER, fried chicken chunk DINNER, along with Empanadas, Yuca Frita and Tostones. Received our order to find there is no rice or beans which I know should come with the DINNER since I've ordered from here before. Call the restaurant and they tell me that the DINNERS are not actually DINNERS and that they are actually appetizers.............WTF? I'm placed on hold abruptly to speak with a manager. After calling back twice a manager by the name of "Dee" (he says that's what everyone knows him as) gets on the phone. I tell him that I ordered DINNERS and that I did not receive dinners. First thing he asks me is why I'm yelling. First of all, I'm pissed, I just spent $80+ on food to find out that the DINNER that I ordered has magically become an appetizer (btw, the garlic shrimp appetizer is 5 pieces which cost $16.50 and the coconut shrimp appetizer were 4 pieces for $15.50 ......). Secondly, I'm from NEW YORK, that's how I speak, SIR. Basically the rest of the conversation was him trying to rationalize something that was obviously their mistake but of course he did not want to take accountability. Ultimately, after a lengthy and obviously pointless conversation with an irrational man, I called back and told them to come and get the food and that I wanted a refund. He told me to throw the food away and that they would issue a refund. Called Grubhub as well to report the matter and they issued a refund right away. The truly tragic part of this is that this was something that could have been easily resolved if the manager had a tad bit of business sense, put his rather pompous attitude and ego aside by acknowledging their mistake on the menu, sucking it up and sending a couple of orders of rice and beans to my house. Simple. Instead, they lost money on an order and now they will lose out on a repeat customer as well as any future business that I would have referred to them... Welp! read more

Perhaps my expectation was different, I was expecting "lumps" of crab meat in the avocado, not crab meat mushed into a ball. The seasoning was overpowering -- I couldn't decide if the chef was heavy handed with the seasoning or masking the aged crab meat he was serving. I live in the area and have been eyeing this place since it opened. Finally got to try it this past Tuesday night, and it was packed! They don't take reservations either. Arrived at about 7PM and was told there was a 45-50 minute wait for a table for 2. I left my number and was walking around the area. I got a call about 15 minutes later saying my table was ready! For drinks, we got a strawberry margarita and a peach margarita. Both were a little too sweet in my opinion. For appetizers, we got Guac and the Traditional Ceviche. The guac is served table-side, which is a cute touch. I told them medium spicy, which was actually not spicy at all. The ceviche was light and refreshing! For entrees, we got the skirt steak and the paella. I'm always worried about seafood being overcooked, but I was pleasantly surprised! The paella rice was wet and not dry like other places. The skirt steak was cooked the perfect medium rare, and the chimichurri paired perfectly with it. The owner/manager who was situated at the front was a bit too close for comfort.
