Best cupcakes in Maine (at least that I have found so far). The cupcakes are moist and light, full of flavor. The icing is flavorful and not overly sweet. There is lots of creative variety and the cupcakes are very pretty. Staff are wonderful, friendly, and will help making the hard decisions of which cupcake to get (which should include the chocolate expresso because it is amazing). They even have vegan cupcakes! They also have terrific sandwiches and coffee. read more

We stopped in to the Cupcakery after hiking for several hours in the nearby Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary, where we definitely worked up an appetite trudging up and down hills in the sloppy snow. We had coffee and something sweet on our minds, and ended up with a variety of seasonal lattes, quiche and cupcakes all around. The interior space was clean and festive, all decked out for Valentines day. The two young people working the counter and kitchen were friendly and efficient, and we were really happy with the variety of options available. We enjoyed our coffees and were happy to see options for non-dairy milk alternatives too. I took off a star only because I found everything we bought to eat way too sweet for my taste buds, but that won't keep me away. I'll just try different things next time. Definitely recommend this cute little spot for a coffee date, or a spot to relax on your own with a treat and coffee or cocoa. read more

They made my breakfast sandwich entirely with a microwave. No use of an oven or stove. Like, all the components.Bacon, egg, and even the English muffin. The whole thing was microwaved. It was soggy and tough and completely tasteless. You can literally get the same sandwich made one hundred times better at McDonald's. I also ordered four cupcakes. I pulled a hair out of the icing of my pistachio cupcake. There was also a similar hair buried deep in the icing of my cookie dough cupcake. The garnish was missing on my peppermint stick cupcake and it had not fallen off in the box.The consistency of the cupcakes was very dry. They taste more like cornbread than anything else, and the frosting is overly and offensively sweet, I assume to make up for the lack of flavor in the cupcakes. I think this place relies on maintaining the image of a quaint and niche market, so it seems like a cute place to visit. Meanwhile, in my opinion, the quality of their product is abysmal. My mouth is numb from whatever they put in the frosting and I'm sure to have nightmares about that breakfast sandwich for months to come. read more

First the service was fantastic, so friendly and helpful. This young lady was all smiles. However a place that prides themselves on cupcakes was far from stellar. They were decorated for the holidays, with reindeer and snowmen. I bought a few to try. I'm not sure they were fresh, as all the edges of the top of the cupcake were hard and the wrapper came off in 8 pieces. The maples walnut had great frosting flavor and a perfect ratio of cupcake to frosting. The walnuts were huge, I would have preferred them to be chopped small. I contacted the Cupcakery in early July about baking a cake for my wedding. After hearing nothing for a couple weeks I get a reply from Jenna Roberts saying "sorry for the late reply, I was on vacation" she loved the idea and wanted to hear more. Same day I reply with a photo examples & info of what I'm looking for. 2 weeks go by with no reply from her before I email totally frustrated, ugh nevermind! She emails back saying she lost my email and will give me a great price, I email back same day again, asking how much etc. 6 more days go by with no reply from her. I email her again "I'm leaving Los Angeles Saturday morning to drive to Maine so I would love to get the cake sorted before the week of my wedding. Can you send me the pics and let me know the price?" 3 days later (7 days before my wedding) she sends me a picture with no price. I write her back saying "looks great, let's go ahead, how much and when can I pick up?" She never replies. I baked my own wedding cake the day before my wedding! What a huge waste of my time, zero stars. Flaky and just bad business. read more

This is a lovely addition to Lewiston and I really hope their business succeeds! They are located in what used to be the Bread Shack Cafe, and offer a range of sandwiches, soups, a few breakfast items and of course CUPCAKES. The cupcakes are, in my opinion. Delicious. They are piled high with rich, flavorful frosting. When I went there I bought 4 cupcakes which came to 12$ about 2.99 a cupcake. Which in my opinion, for a gourmet cupcake is pretty reasonable. Whoever thinks these things are overpriced should just go to the grocery store and buy a box of cheap, greasy, mushy, cupcakes from the grocery store. (or Grants bakery, which is just a horrid) I had the Caramel Apple cupcake, which was an apple spice cake, very moist, dense, and flavorful. Topped with a half inch pile of creamy, buttery, tangy, sour cream frosting and then slathered in a sticky caramel sauce that was not too sweet and complimented the cup cake very well. The Carrot Cake cupcake was equally delicious, with a cream cheese frosting and a sprinkling of crunchy walnuts. Yum! The Vanilla Twist was a vanilla cake with a swirl of thick chocolate buttercream frosting sprinkled playfully with coconut. The frosting was over and inch high, dare I say two inches? And I think I gave myself diabetes with this thing but it was totally worth it. Obviously I didn't eat all of these in one sitting. But they go amazing with coffee and the shop does special orders (even dog "pup cakes") cakes and wedding cakes. Compared to Grants Bakery, which in my opinion is bland, cheap, and barely above walmart cake quality, this place is cute and delicious! read more

While there I had to try a cupcake and that too was very good (fresh, soft, sweet but not overly, and not oversized). Breakfast sandwiches as well as baked goods available. Spoke with the staff and learned the non profit business moved two years ago and has improved with a management change and subsequent recipe changes. Wish this had been in town when I lived here 25 years ago! I'd recommend you check it out whether you are a resident, a visitor, or a student at the nearby college. I have gone about 3 times first time paper stuck to cupcake and it took awhile to take it off very crisp hard cake.2nd time I went same thing but frosting was okay so that is why I returned. The third time about 3 customers and myself 2 workers 4 customers one of the workers was putting salad and food items in containers when she should have put that prep to the side to help one of us. the other worker was helping the women in front of us with breakfast sandwich 2 of us had stated that we wanted cupcakes a gentleman with 2 small children wanted special cupcakes.And the children were so cute trying to decide what ones believe me when I say they already had there minds made up 10 min. back. At this point Dad is very frustrated with the workers especially the lady prepping the food so slowly.At this time dad is saying load enough for every one to here that he is leaving in one min. if no one waits on them.S after about 15 minutes he tells the 2 children lets go and we will get something else.Children were upset and after they left the worker getting breakfast sandwiches and coffee was finally able to wait on me and there was also a women behind me as well.And on this day the cupcake frosting looked to be left out in containers I thought that it was strange.You can see all the frosting thru a glass window.The worker who was prepping went back there to add frosting to the middle of a cupcake looked to be cookie dough.All in all very strange situation I felt a bit out of place and almost walked out my self.And I have not been back yet and probably wont. read more

We ordered our wedding cakes from The Cupcakery and they were incredible! Yes, plural, I had 5 rather than one big one. After getting talked out of making my own, I went on the a search for a bakery to make a wedding cake that would taste and look homemade and Chelsea nailed it. I am personally not a fan of fondant so I wanted homemade cakes for my rustic wedding in all my favorite flavors. We landed on lemon blueberry with fresh blueberry topping, carrot with cream cheese frosting, chocolate with fresh strawberries, and my personal favorite toasted coconut. The cakes were fluffy and moist with a perfect crumb and flavorful frosting. The chocolate was rich, the lemon was refreshing with bursts of fresh blueberries, the coconut was airy with tons of toasted coconut on top. Chelsea was a dream to work with, the price was very reasonable, and everyone raved about the cakes. I of course had 4 pieces, one of each flavor and didn't regret a single bite. They tasted like the best cake your grandmother ever made with fresh real ingredients. I highly recommend this bakery for all your cake needs! read more

Our family hired the Cupcakery for a surprise birthday party. The planning began in February for the party in April. On the day of the party, the two tiered cake and cupcakes were delivered to the venue. Some of the cupcakes were decorated with flowers as requested; others not. The cake topper was not on the cake as ordered & the fondant icing was messed up on the back of the cake. The ladies who delivered the cake & cupcakes did not attempt to fix anything. Some of the cupcakes were very dry, some not. The cake was very good & moist. When the owner was first contacted about the problems; the owner mentioned she'd cover the cost of the cake. When contacted again, the owner then mentioned a dozen cupcakes for free. As this was a special occasion for us, our overall experience was a bit of a let down. read more

He agreed that they tasted the same, very sugary, overly generous, sweet icing and small, dry cakes. He suggested that they tasted at least a day old, if not more. Had high hopes walking in, it's a cute little bakery that advertises for breakfast and lunch. We went in for breakfast and a latte. The breakfast sandwich was described as "egg and cheese with greens and aioli", what I received was a Thomas English muffin (not homemade) and huge chunks of iceberg lettuce with the saltiest mayo ever. It was uneatable. Sadly the latte tasted like it was made from heavy cream (ick) that had started to go bad. I bet their cakes are good, given the high reviews, but skip the breakfast! read more

I went there for the first time today, to get cupcakes for my daughters birthday. I was very disappointed in the few options that they had for flavors. The cakes were also very dense with gobs of frosting. My daughter was happy so that was all that mattered. When I went to walk my daughter to the bathroom an employee was "shooing" my daughter away. It was extremely rude especially as her parent was with her, and I will not be returning. Very disappointed in the products and even more the customer service. read more
