This place is terrible for kids. It took over 40 minutes to get our food. We spilt a glass of water at the table and even when we went to the bar to ask for towels or napkins no one would help us. Had lunch there with a group of adults and kids. Service was good but a little slow. Food was excellent! Kettle chip nachos and fish & chips were tasty! One word: EXCELLENT. I'm just disappointed we didn't discover until our last day in town because I wanted to go back. We ate here twice while staying at Custer State Park, both times the food was great and satisfying. We had pork chop/mashed potatoes/asparagus and the grilled chicken/slaw/sautéed veggies, both were excellent. My kids had the burger and mini corn dogs. We were all happy with our meals. Don't believe those good reviews. This place is horrible on Saturday nights. Live entertainment was way too loud and painful to listen to. Ranchers pie was like bad goulash. Waiter seemed lost- and had trouble hearing anything we said because of the live screeching performer. The whole place seemed dirty. Food was less than fair. Prices are high for the quality. Stop here tourists - I'm glad I did!! Well, we just saw several bison on the wildlife loop in Custer State Park and then we decided to have lunch so we stopped at The Custer Wolf. They have fresh food and we hope to eat here again before we head to Denver. Very friendly service, a nice selection of regional beers, and delicious food. I had the fish and chips. While the fries/chips were nothing special, the fish was great! Perfectly battered and cooked. I feel obliged to leave honest feedback. 3 stars means it's A-OK and that's exactly what it was for me. I had the Rancher's Pie, a beer, and a Christmas cookie platter. All were good. Nothing was fantastic. Service was okay--not great and not bad. At no point was I thinking "wow". I won't name it, but there is a place I had breakfast at right down the street that impressed me with both food and service. I can see how they've earned 5 stars, but this place? No, sorry Yelpers. We spent a week in the Black Hills region, every place we stopped was just plain, not bad but nothing to write home about. The last night we ended up in Custer and went to The Custer Wolf by chance. By far heads above anything else we ate all week long, wish we would have found it sooner! We visited this great place June 12 and had a great meal. They have a varied menu with excellent bread pudding. My wife had a Wylye (local fish) po-boy with home-made chips. Raved about the secret recipe tartar sauce. Everything they served was great and reasonably priced. Go there if your in the Black Hills and hungry. read more

The Custer Wolf did not disappoint. On our first night in Custer, we arrived late and almost everything was closed. We had two hungry kids on our hands and the team here welcomed us in with open arms (even though it was past closing time). Everyone was very friendly and the food was delicious. It was hot, fresh and obviously made with a lot of care. No one rushed us. In fact, several of the people working made small talk. We felt very welcomed. Three days later we decided to eat at the Custer Wolf again on our way out of town. Still delicious and still friendly. The restaurant is clean, the food is made to order and everyone seems to enjoy their work. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. read more

Finding vegan food on the road is always a challenge. The vegan dish was by far one of the best I've ever had. The ranchers pie and meatless lasagne were tasty and filling. The squash in the lasagne added flavor and enhanced the texture The food had that home cooked taste and feel. Great place with friendly helpful staff. I had the cold plate appetizer as a meal. Delicious & more than enough food for one. The buffalo salami was so good and was paired with cheddar.
