Okay totally unexpected find. We walked by looking for a place because we had no reservations. Yelp saved the day and we found The Daisy. Super clean supera fresh locale. Staff was excellent and delightful. So about the food. The Chicken salad scoop on a green salad needs to become a menu item for dinner. It was great. Chicken tasted like freakin chicken. The lamb and beef meatballs I cannot begin to describe. I literally have no effective words to describe how good and simple this dish is. Do yourself a huge favor and try it. The mezze plate was not your typical fare in the sense of pickles and beets. Instead very flavorful oil and fresh herbs. The hummus is super firm not runny greasy. For example, the house made pickles were each unique and magnificently flavorful; the cheeseburger was elevated, made from beef ground in-house. Nobody cares this much about details these days, and yet these folks do. One of the owners served parts of our meal, working alongside the friendly and accommodating staff. We were lucky enough to meet the chef, too, who after a discussion of pickle recipes and our appreciation, presented us with a container of them to take home, gratuit. If you've been to vietnamese restaurants with good cheap banh mi it's hard to be happy with how dry and flavorless this is. But maybe that's fine for most people in Santa Barbara. You order at the front and they bring out your food. _Mezze Plate ($20) Beet Muhammara, hummus, labneh, olives, zhoug, 6 min egg, grilled flatbread. I love a good Mezze plate that has a little bit of everything to try so initially this dish is what brought me to check out the cafe. This is a solid plate for 2 people, or one like myself :) The eggs were cooked perfectly, with a slight runny egg. All the dips were great, different flavors that all work together and the side salad and olives were refreshing and tied the whole dish together. The pita bread was amazing. Soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. _Daisy Cheeseburger w/fries ($19) Cheddar cheese, onions, tomato, farmer's market butter lettuce, garlic aioli and house pickles (add bacon $3) My gf got this as a lettuce wrap with no buns. The burger was a pretty solid, nothing out of this world. The fries were so darn good and more so the star of the show. Not too salty or greasy and nicely crisp and warm. We came here for the first time for lunch, and were so impressed. The inside is light and spacious with a bar, tables and a pantry for shopping. We ordered the Farm grain bowl, Lemony chickpea sandwich and the burger and fries, and sat in the plant enclosed area by street so our dog had lots of room. The lemony chickpea sandwich had plenty of avocado and farm market lettuce and was served on good rustic style bread, and was so good. I had some of the fries too. Omg the food here was SO GOOD! I'm traveling with my family (three vegans including myself, one pescatarian and two meat eaters) and all of us absolutely loved what we got. I was skeptical, but curious every time I see a 5 star establishment in yelp. And I agree, it's 5 star worthy! My friends and I had lunch here during our little girl's trip. I ordered the Mezze plate and I was in heaven! It came with flat brad, olives, hard boiled egg, goat cheese, and 3 sides. My favorite was mixing the goat cheese with the beer muhammara. I could eat that all day. My friends had the Little Gem Wedges and all thought it was pretty, but they didn't enjoy the salad too much and just got tired of eating it. They also got the chicken salad sandwich and they all greed it was probably the best out of everything we all ordered. Oh yeah! Can't forget about the falafel which were also delicious. My Yelp friends, if there's ever been a massive find, this is it! They've figured everything out at Daisy from food to vibe to ambiance. Everything here our party of five tried was tops! Falafel: best we've ever tried. Farm salad: best ever. Hamburger: same. Fries: perfect. My only wish was that they had a restaurant near us in Silicon Valley! This is a nice Mediterranean place in Santa Barabara with vegan options. I got the lemony chickpea sandwich. It was delicious. The chickpeas were a nice texture and there was the perfect amount of lemon flavor along with delicious avocado. The bread was also delicious. I do wish it was served with a small side though. The main reason I took a star off is my friend I was dining with ordered the falafel plate and requested it be made vegan but they served it with dairy. I did try some of the falafel plate and it was quite good. I would still recommend this place but if you ate strictly vegan stick with the already vegan options and not the vegan modifiable ones read more

A truly unique experience and menu. Housemade tzatziki (marvelous) & ciders. A side salad is an odd item to compliment, but it was so perfectly balanced with its delicate dressing as part of my incredible falafel plate. Pickled veggie garnishes were delightful albeit a tad on the spicy side. We had a lovely view of the historic Granada theater and we were nestled amongst ferns and hanging foliage on the patio. Our visit to the Daisy was a sweet surprise! Walking in, there were many people sitting at tables and at the bar enjoying a casual lunch. The ambiance was calm and energizing at the same time. The volume was not overpowering and the tables were slightly close together but once we sat down, we were in our own little world. We ordered at the counter where the server/cashier was very insightful and gave us his favorites, which we obviously ordered - the Bahn Mi sandwich with puked pork and the little gems salad with green goddess dressing. We chose wine with our meal and the host even let us sample the wine before purchasing a glass :) we sat ourselves outside in the corner among the hanging plants which was a wonderful touch. I hate to write a bad review of a small local business but felt important to share a truly unfortunate experience. I arrived today with my 5 yr old who was home sick to grab a quick lunch. the restaurant was empty save for the staff at 11:30 am. we walked up front to order and my daughter who was not feeling well was in my arms, I placed her on the counter for barely 2 seconds to grab my phone from my purse. The woman at the counter snapped at me to not put her on the counter because the owner doesn't like it. I was startled and said sure ok. and then said maybe say that more kindly to a customer as that was not so nice. so I walked down to the bar stools to put my daughter down and get my phone/wallet and then the owner, a british man who I have spoken with many times over the years as we have been loyal customers, walked over and placed a chalkboard sign that said something about having to be 21 yrs old to sit at the bar. I looked up and politely said excuse me and said you must be joking? He yelled at me that he didn't care if I was a regular customer he wasn't going to lose his liquor license. I was so stunned I said I am sorry I was just putting my daughter on the stool but obviously we can leave. He stormed off rudely. On my way out I said how unfortunate as that was one of our favorite restaurants. No one should be treated that way - no mother with her child, no human being frankly. Please consider where you spend your money as it matters. read more

Went to the Daisy tonight with some friends and their kids - we have been several times before and the service has always been friendly, olive oil cake delish, and good wine selections ... but today we had such an awful and embarrassing moment with who I assume to be the owner or manager (older gentleman with a British accent) that I had to take the time to explain why I will never be going back there for a $140 dinner for 2 adults and one toddler ($10 grilled cheese on the kids menu), and there isn't even table service! and it isn't even the high price and generally mediocre food. Yes we were 4 adults and 4 children, yes we had some strollers that were in the way and were moved, yes the kids were making normal kid noises and walking around a bit, yes the kids were being kids, but there was nothing broken, no messes, and very few people outside (many many empty tables both inside and both outside areas, which is why we went there in the first place because everywhere else was packed) when this gentleman comes over and scolded us saying something along the lines of "this is an adult restaurant and we need this space for other tables and your strollers and kids are all over the place and i have kids and this isn't acceptable." but in the rudest way possible and loud. well - let me just say that even if he was right and even if we were a little annoying, he never once came over first to kindly and subtly ask us if we could try to give a table area a little more space because someone was going to be sitting there. he chose to loudly lecture us as if we were juveniles first. and when i very calmly told him that he was being rude, he continued to go off on me, and when i said well we will be leaving soon and won't come back again he said "great, thank you." the irony is, his manners were far worse than ours or the children. maybe he was having a bad day - but he made sure that 2 mothers, 2 fathers and 4 children felt humiliated. read more

The thoughtfully elegant designed space offers fine dining; uniquely balancing its casual ambience. We started with the vegan falafel appetizer and the Mezze plate - which I was blown away with. Spending a very long time abroad in Israel, I am no stranger to the Mezze plate. Featuring beet muhammara, hummus, labneh, zhough, 6 minute egg, olives and flatbread - made from bright and local ingredients, each piece complimenting the next. For my main course I had the house-smoked prawns; the restaurant houses a smoker to cook some food. This is a must for people who enjoy smoked fish. Incredible. Fresh new spot in town! A lovely place to lunch ( but they do have evening plates after 5 pm). Sparse, white, clean, light and airy atmosphere. European feeling. Simple, clear menu that feels a bit too lean. Everything is very tasty, delicately delicious, zesty, and well balanced...but with just two toasts, about five sandwiches, a few main plates, and two salads, it feels a bit limited. Seasonal rotating soups keeps things fresh. A good excuse to pop in! Love the spiced nuts with za'atar. SO refreshing to have a little bit of Middle Eastern flavors. Rare here in SB. Their "nibbles" are savoy olives, falafel, and comforting familiars fries with garlic aioli. Yum. I adore the cuminy carrots. Thank you. Kid's menu is substantial and reasonable.
