I love Drunken Chicken. I cannot get enough drunken chicken. Drunken chicken for breakfast lunch and dinner. But most of the drunken chicken I've had locally is so mild it should be called near bear chicken. The Dara is the exception. I ordered a medium spice level and it was wonderfully spicy and aromatic. The Dara is located in Fells Point. As you walk in there is a large bar inside. The ambiance is welcoming and a great place to meet up. We went for dinner and ordered the drunken noodles with tofu, panang curry with chicken, and the shrimp with scallops wonton. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The service was amazing too. We got the fried lotus root and the taro dumplings to start. The taro was nice and crunchy, but some of the pieces were undercooked inside. The taro dumplings were okay, but didn't have much filling inside. The Panang curry was a bit bland and the vegetables (bell pepper and eggplant) were hard and didn't seem cooked enough. I would agree with others that it did not come with enough rice. I really liked our server though, they were very attentive and always made sure we had water. read more

Well I finally decided to try this place... I was really excited. I decided to go on a Monday afternoon. Got there not too long after they opened the place was not busy at all. One server and manager and other staff maybe the kitchen manager. Point being not busy some staff even had their personal belongings in the seating area where if busy a customer would most likely sit. When I got there I sat myself (after walking around looking for any sign of life) my server was good at first. I asked for coffee she suggested the cold brew (the only coffee they had) it was great. While having my coffee I was on a business call... mind you after the server came to check on me a few times for food I told her I'm still deciding I'll let her know when I'm ready. I guess I took too long for her liking and she brought me a check for my coffee... I told her I'm ready for my appetizer, while still on my call. (You should have seen the look of disappointment as she tore the receipt) She brings that. It was delicious I had the dumplings and they were purple so cute! This when things took a horrific turn! As soon as I popped my last dumpling in my mouth child the server comes to ask me if I wanted anything else mid-chew I tell her I will want rice later. She says "later?" I said yes, later do I have a time limit here? (The restaurant has now served 4 ppl since my arrival 2 of which were still in the restaurant with me) she says let me ask my manager! I'm not sure what her conversation was but before you know it the manager came to ask if I had a question...I explained and he couldn't care less about any customer service! This man proceeds to tell me that I don't have a time limit but I've been there since 11:30 and it's now 2:30. I explained that yes i ordered coffee which I took my time to drink...then appetizers... and i was going to add food. He looks at me and says yes but you know this is not a work space it's for eating...(pointing to my mobile device) so ya you let us know if you need anything but we will not be serving you anymore.... SO BECAUSE IM OF AFRICAN DECENT DINNING ALONE MID-DAY in an EMPTY restaurant im not allowed to sit and do as I please while enjoying my meal! How disgusting! I've been to class A establishments and I've never been treated with such discrimination! I kindly paid for what I had already ordered and left! I did not at anytime disrespect or even speak in a tone that could warrant this behavior from total strangers!!! I was kind down to the moment he so happily and proudly said they will no longer be serving me! If you want to relax and enjoy your meal while colored this is not the place for you. If you like an experience and great customer service this place is not for you... if you like to savor your food enjoy the atmosphere while dining alone as a woman...this place is not for you. Go with a man or order out but whatever you do DONT DINE IN! YOU WILL REGRET IT! Needless to say never going back and I'm posting my review and story time on every single platform cause ITS 2024! Happy to see another Asian restaurant arrive in fells! Ambiance: taking over the old location of Red Star the decor hasn't changed that much. Casual and very tavern like, it's good for a casual meal out or with friends. Two levels with more seating upstairs. Food: one of the co owners said the flavors and dishes are southern Thai and it definitely delivered. Lots of seafood dishes, so those that like seafood and Thai then this is a good place to go. Also the spice levels were on key for authentic SPICY with levels you can choose. We got the lotus root appetizer, the crabmeat curry, the Hatyai fried chicken and the seafood Tom yum. All were great. We ordered spice level 3 and it was just right for people that eat spice and can handle spicy. And by can handle spice, I don't meant franks red hot spicy; I'm talking SPICY. Otherwise scale down and do level 2. Drinks: currently no drinks yet as the restaurant is still awaiting liquor license BUT this is also good bc it's BYOB (and per co-owner Jeff will likely remain but with a cork fee). Service: we came on a week night so it was slow. Service was great and we got all the attention we needed. All in all, good addition to the fells restaurant scene. Some work in progress still but will be looking forward to seeing the changes. Will be coming back to check it out. read more

The food was tasty but I would suggest having smaller portions of soup available, not mixing hot and cold food on the same plate, and adding scallops and soft crab to the list of proteins available for the curries and noodles. My friends scallops came with a cold salad in the middle of the plate instead of some incredible coconut curry sauce with exotic rice like it should have. Also if you order a rice noodle as a side it comes without any sauce or spices. Maybe add peanut sauce ? Or veggies, or anything.... read more

I ordered for delivery from Dara and the tom yum seafood was overpriced and overcooked. It was so overcooked that when I went to remove the tail meat from the prawn, it smushed in my fingers. Add to that that the prawn, which was mostly shell and legs, took up the majority of the dish. $33 for overcooked mush is not a good intro to the new place in town. read more

The Dara is a wonderful restaurant on the quiet end of Fell's point. It has taken over the old Red Star tavern, bringing a whole new vibe to Wolfe Street! We had dinner on Saturday. The ambiance was relaxed and restful. We ordered a drunken noodles with Pork (super flavorful and filling), veggie green curry (spicy!) and five colors vegetables (a hearty and healthy accompaniment). We wanted to order hot teas, which are not available as of yet, but the menu does offer a variety of iced teas or Thai iced teas. The owner who took our order provided a warm reception and excellent service. Next time, Im going to order the whole crispy fish or the Panang curry, which I was told was a popular choice. Lovely new spot on the edge of Fells Point, Baltimore Harbor East. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, super service. I had the crab fried rice that was made to perfection. The dish was topped with soft scrambled eggs and lump crab meat. Creamy and delicious. My wife ordered the Pad Thai and it did not disappoint! Fresh ingredients and great cooking technique yielded a dish that was both light and filling! One more note...the music was at a level where you could hear and appreciate it and still hold an intimate conversation, other spots should take notice! Discovered that this place had opened while on a walk so ended up getting takeout, but I will definitely be back! The food was amazing (I got the drunken noodle), menu is great with classic favorites and some more unique dishes as well, and the the place has a cozy but elegant aesthetic. Plus everyone is so nice and welcoming!! They're still getting their liquor listened right now (been open a week!) but based on their non-alcoholic drinks menu, I think their cocktail menu will not disappoint. The restaurant ambiance was really nice along with the service and presentation. We got a total of 4 dishes and 1 drink. Crispy Lotus - Highlight of the evening. Crispy but also not too heavy. Thai Ice tea Arnold Palmer - Total sweet blast with that great Thai iced tea flavor. Amazing. Unfortunately, the sweetness did not stop there. I got the Gaeng ga-ti pu, which was the soft shell crab in a yellow curry. The concept was super cool, and the crab itself was delicious. However, the curry was super sweet. It almost overwhelmed the dish in my opinion. It was also rated at a spice level of 2, but that only came from 2 or 3 pieces of chili peppers in my dish. When I requested some extra peppers on the side, I thought I would either get more Thai chili powder or a chili oil I could mix in. Instead I got what seemed like McCormick chili flakes, which was a bummer though it might have been because I was not specific. My partner got the prawn makham and had a similar issue. They were overwhelmed by the sweetness. The dish listed "fish sauce" and "spicy cilantro lime sauce", but those flavors seemed a bit lost in the dish. The prawn itself was alright but was drizzled with a sweet sauce which was overpowering. Boo doo herbal rice - Again nice concept, but at this point we couldn't stand any more sweetness. The lemongrass, red onion, and green beans added a nice contrasting texture against the rice and provided some great flavor. However, the pineapples seemed canned and, once again, were too sweet and overpowered the dish. Also wish there was more of that fish sauce flavor. Overall, this place definitely has great potential. For a Thai food lover, I wish there was more of that classic Thai spicy flavor instead of overpowering sweetness. I think this could be an easy fix -- the concept is there, just recipe tweaks needed. read more

This place just opened and I guarantee The Dara will be the next hottest dinner spot in Baltimore! The food was absolutely amazing and completely unique to everything else in the city. The restaurant itself is beautiful and very roomy with sort of a cozy mountain ski lodge type of atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food came out very fast. Got the rib eye, the crispy fried chicken and some type of spicy mushroom salad appetizer; all were sensational and felt very healthy. Make sure to order yourself some Thai iced tea also!
