The Dara is hands down our favorite Thai restaurant and one of our favorite restaurants, period. As someone with celiac disease, I really appreciate the multitude of clearly marked gluten-free items on the menu, and every single one we've tried has been absolutely delicious. The chicken pad Thai is by far the best I've ever had, and according to my fiancé, the beef pad see ew is to die for. One of the things we love most is that they can customize the spice level to your preference, so everyone can enjoy their meal exactly how they like it. Their drinks are just as impressive. The Thai-tini is incredible, and they also have a fantastic selection of mocktails that are just as fun and delicious. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is adorable with all the exposed brick. It's cozy, stylish, and the perfect spot for either a girls' night out or a date night. We can't recommend it highly enough and always look forward to our next visit! read more

As a lover of Thai food, I think this spot is the best in Baltimore City and is the most consistent but I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had. I think Bmore's Thai food scene is geared toward satisfying a certain demographic. But would I be content eating this? For sure! We went for happy hour and personally felt that the boneless chicken wings and tempura shrimp were the best of the options, but still pretty disappointing. Stopped by for my first visit after seeing a few varying reviews. Esthetically this fells point restaurant had a dimly lit moody vibe with beautiful high ceilings and light fixtures. I was confused by the server who greeted us only bc she was wearing a coat which I found odd and her attentiveness was about a 5/10. All the drinks were great! Especially the pineapple raspberry margarita. The seafood wonton appetizer was a hit and I'd return again just for that but don't discount the entrees! I'm surprised this place does not seem to get a lot of food traffic. I came with my friend for dinner and it was empty when we arrived. By the time we left, it was still empty. I did hear a lot of people get take out here instead and it does get busier over the weekend. They provide happy hour throughout the restaurant. I got a glass of their house wine and my friend got a non-alcoholic beer. We shared the Lotus Root and Giaow Pak (dumplings). The dumplings were room temperature but still good. We loved the fried lotus root which was delicious! For my main entree I got Pad Si Eew with chicken. I love that they put Chinese broccoli instead of regular broccoli. Such a great dish and my friend enjoyed his Mama with tofu dish. I also ended up getting their Mango Sticky Rice which was great. Mango was ripe and dish was just the perfect amount of sweetness. Spring rolls were tasteless, the seafood wontons were actually good. We got a papaya salad at a 1 level spicy and it was too spicy for us to eat a lot, and I don't mind spicy! The fried lotus root was also not bad, kind of like a fried green tomato. The actual entrees were pretty meh. Pad Thai was very sweet, we also got a level 1 spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. The Dara is a welcome addition to the Baltimore food scene - serving delicious Thai food and a great cocktail selection in an intimate setting perfect for date night or just catching up with friends! I've been here twice and both times I left feeling satisfied with the quality and portion of the food I ate. I had the seafood wontons both times, Thai tea martini both times, and then tried the drunken noodles once and the pad si eew once. You can select a spice level and your protein, both with a good range suitable for everyone. They also label what is gluten free, vegan, or vegetarian on the menu which I find isn't common everywhere. The reason that the Dara loses a star is in two parts. I had a really friendly waitress both times, but it did seem like they were pretty busy and the waitress was a bit stressed. Keep in mind I went on a weekday night both times and the restaurant was practically full. One of the times they forgot my martini and I didn't have a chance to ask about it until I was already eating my entree. This wasn't a big deal overall but just something to note for their team. The food does come out fast, though. The second reason is that unfortunately they have had some sort of supply issue both times I was there. The first time it was that they were out of wide noodles for the wide-noodle dishes, and the second time they were sold out of the appetizer that we wanted to try. Again, the food was still delicious but I do hope they can find their footing when it comes to staffing and supply issues, and this would be a complete five-star establishment for me. read more

Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants in Baltimore. I was in the area for work and decided to catch up with friends in the evening for dinner. One of my friends recommended this place. Beautiful ambiance and the service was great. Cocktails are great as well. For entrees, I tried the softshell crab with lumps of crab in the creamy curry over a bed of purple rice. I've been to The Dara three times now -- twice dining in and once for takeout -- and I can confidently say this Thai restaurant is one I'd like to return to again. It's a relaxed yet slightly elevated experience, but still feels welcoming and comfortable. I definitely recommend dining in if you can; the food quality is noticeably better. Both times I dined in, the service was excellent -- attentive, kind, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. Their cocktails are also a highlight. I've tried the Mezzu Blaze and the Jasmine Gold Rush, and I'd order both again. The Mezzu Blaze has a fun, unique twist with Banhez Mezcal, Yuzu Sake, Spicy Honey, Thai Basil, Fresh Lime Juice, and Orange Bitters. While the Jasmine Gold Rush leans more toward my usual go-to cocktail style -- smooth, balanced, and spirit forward like an old fashioned but slightly flavored with Old Forester Bourbon, Jasmine Syrup, Honey, Fresh Lime Juice, Bitters. They also have a daily happy hour from 4:30 to 6:00. I haven't made it yet, but I noticed the papaya salad is on the happy hour menu -- and that alone makes me want to go back. I assume it's the same very delicious papaya salad that i have had on the regular menu. You can choose your spice level; I went with a level 2, and it packed serious heat (even for someone who loves spicy food). My friend found it too spicy and would've gotten a spice level 1, but I thought it was perfect. It's one of those dishes I'll dream about and can't wait to have again. I do think the spice level feels different depending on what dish you got. I got a spice level three for my Pad Thai and I did not think it was a spicy...potentially because the carbs soaked up the heat? It has been a long time since I've had authentic Thai. The experience at The Dara is a beautiful balance of service, ambience, and flavors. After reading reviews, I planned a visit after hours. Beating traffic, the dinner bustle, and walking several blocks, the ambient glows through the storefront's glass panes brought a sense of intrigue. The staff tonight were very attentive and our server was so sweet. To start, the table shared lotus root and coconut shrimp. Both delicious, I loved the pairing of apple salad, savory and tangy, with the coconut shrimp. Tamarita (tamarind margarita) is a fave according to our server and tonight's mixologist made it to perfection. Lychee is always a choice of mine and their take in a mojito was fun. Light rum and delicious balance with lychee made it refreshing. For entrees, we chose the basil rice bowl with ribeye and panang with crispy chicken. The ribeye with basil rice was 8oz. plenty and the char was a wonderdul surprise. Rice was tender and oh the basil... yum. A misunderstanding with the panang caused a minor wait but was quickly fixed. Robust in every way, the silky light coconut curry with delicious vegetables and kaffir lime was everything rich and aromatic. The crispy chicken was served on the side, it was not greasy and so flavorful. Portions are generous. So good. The Dara won me. A wonderful first visit and certainly not the last. We wanted to get some Thai near Fells Point and picked the Dara. We did call ahead and they managed to squeeze us in a Saturday night at 8:30pm. Reservationas highly recommended. When we arrived we were sat without a wait. The interior looked cool, with high ceilings, and what looked like the original wood beams of the older building. Very warm and inviting atmosphere blending old and new. For the food we got the papaya salad, a medium spice chicken drunken noodle, a mild chicken penang curry and the crab fried rice. Definitely can be family style if you want to share a couple of entrees. It was enough food for 3 people. Everything was delicious. The papaya salad was deceptively spicy for me but I don't handle spice as well as others I suppose. But that didn't stop me (I had a thai iced tea to cool it down- a must get for me at Thai spots lol) The only bit of negative was the chicken in the penang curry was dry. All other things tasted great, especially the crab fried rice. I'd recommend the Dara. A little expensive depending on what you get but a nice Thai spot in town. read more

I have been to Dara several times and the food and service is always amazing!!! My favorite drink is the Thaitini. An espresso martini but with Thai tea instead. The perfect drink for me. The classics Pad Thai, drunken noodles and green curry are amazing. Check yourself if you try to up the spice level. Spicy means spicy. The portion sizes are large so great to share or save for leftovers. Mind that spice level the next day. The crab fried rice is topped with lump crab. The wontons are perfectly fried. We went as a party of two without a reservation but I do recommend one as it was nicely busy and if you did not have a reservation there were limited tables and mainly a shared high top. We snagged the last table that was not reserved but we went on the early side for dinner and if we had gone any later would have had to do the bar area. Cocktails were creative and good. I got the Lychee Mojito and I was worried it would be too sweet but it wasn't sweet, it was great. For food we shared the Chicken Pad Thai and the Panang Curry. We ordered both at spice level 2 for fear anything else would be too hot but we could definitely go to a level 3 next time. The Dara is a Thai restaurant just off Alicennna in Baltimore, and it is one of only two Thai spots I have tried so far. The first in Missouri. I can honestly say it has become one of my favorite food locations in the city. I am a big fan of Asian cuisine and this place did not disappoint. The restaurant was easy to find, and parking was surprisingly light for the time of day. When we walked in, the first thing we noticed was the soft, relaxed ambiance. The blend of exposed brick, forest tan, and earthy tones created a calm and inviting space. The seating is close and intimate which makes it a great spot for a couples outing. One thing I really appreciated was the low noise level. My wife and I could talk without having to fight against background noise. The staff was warm, friendly, and ready to help. Our server was amazing and patient with our questions, especially when we asked about spice levels. One thing I learned from some cultures is choosing the appropriate level of spice can change how you enjoy your meals IYKYK. Nevertheless she could probably sense our slight hesitation, but she still gave us honest and helpful recommendations. No casualties from spice, which is always a win lol. I started with the coconut shrimp appetizer. The shrimp itself was delicious but pretty standard nonetheless, but the standout was this apple salad that was plated with my dish. It had a little heat, some cilantro, and a bright citrus note. It turned the dish into a perfect mix of sweet and spicy. I'd never had apples like this and it was absolutely amazing . My wife ordered the beef nom tok, a beef salad with similar flavors but more citrus. For the entrees, I had the drunken noodles with crispy chicken thigh, and my wife ordered the massaman curry. Went in for a lunch. One thing to note is that parking is hard and no real signs for paid parking near by, though you can find some by googling. Service was pretty slow for lunch time. The drinks were forgettable, probably due to not having a bartender during weekday lunch. However, I will say the food was really good. All things we tried were pretty good. From papaya salad and veggie dumplings, things started off really well. Do note that the level of spiciness is pretty crazy there. As an Indian, I can really eat spicy food but when I selected level 3 spiciness, I didn't think it would make me sweat so badly. Anyways, the drunken noodles were delicious and love that they have vegan options for majority of the menu. The setting was fairly quiet so want to try dinner service to get a better experience. Second time at the Dara, and it didn't disappoint! It has a great high-end atmosphere without the high price point. We enjoyed the curry puffs, yellow curry with a fun blue-colored rice, papaya salad, fried fish, fried shrimps, crab fried rice. The crab fried rice had very generous portions of crab! I had been looking forward to trying The Dara for a while! My friend and I dined in and opted for the prix-fixe lunch at $19 per person, which included one appetizer and one entrée each. I'd consider this a greatly priced lunch deal, especially in Baltimore, but unfortunately, the meal didn't quite live up to my expectations. I was excited about the coconut shrimp, but was shocked because the dish felt more like a green apple salad with a side of shrimp than a standalone appetizer. We also tried the boneless fried chicken wings, which sadly arrived a bit soggy and lacking the crispiness you'd expect. For our entrées, we ordered the chicken pad si eew and the matsaman curry. The flavors were underwhelming compared to other Thai restaurants I've visited. The dishes lacked the bold and aromatic qualities that I usually associate with Thai cuisine. Lastly, when I am eating, I prefer not having gnats flying around! My friend and I kept having to swat gnats away from our food and glasses of water. The interior is gorgeous but something needs to be done about the gnats... Overall, the lunch prix-fixe price point is reasonable, but the portions, texture, and flavor didn't justify the excitement I had going in. Hidden gem with great Thai food and great cocktails. This place is in a really cute part of town and the inside is beautifully decorated. I love the little fireplace addition that they have in the front. I ended up stumbling up upon this place when looking for a place for a team dinner after an event. The restaurant turned out to be really good with great vibes and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating with our large group. Would definitely recommend a couple of dishes which were the papaya salad with soft shell crab,crispy lotus Roots, pork dumplings, and any of their cocktails will not be disappointing. But, the second time I went I ordered the basil fried rice with crispy fried pork belly and I ordered it at a spice level 2, and it was extremely hot for me, but still very good. The second time I went there, one of my friends ordered the hatyai fried chicken, the roti was just too oily and greasy. I ordered an extra dirty martini and it tasted like it only had vodka. My other friend ordered the pad si ew with tofu and it was delicious! Overall, food was very good so I would recommend there, BUT my only con is service was VERY slow. Our food came before our drinks even came.. and even then, the food took forever. Waitress only took our order once and never showed again and we had to ask for help from other waiters. I always come back to the Dara! The food is very good and the service is kind. Our group got the Pad Thai, Teriyaki Chicken, Pad See Ew, and Panama curry, all of which we really enjoyed. The Pad See Ew especially was savory, the noodles were cooked well, and there was a good amount of chicken. We'd also recommend the Thai-tini! read more

Would overall give a 3.5 Food: tasty, however quite sweet. We got the green curry and drunken noodles. They have options for spice level and describe level 3 as "Thai hot." Granted we have a very high spice tolerance, so we ordered a 4 out of 5. The dishes that came out were a 1.5-2 level at best. This always frustrates me - why provide the options if they don't make it spicy? The dishes were overall quite pricey with not a lot of food. Service: a little subpar, there was not a lot of costumers (3 other tables) when we came and the waitress did not come to check and see how we were doing or if we needed anything else. We had to finally call her over to get the check. Ambiance: really cute spot. Not what we expected but seems like they can accommodate a lot of people in both the upstairs and downstairs. read more
