It's a beer place with lots of beers, but they're mostly bottled. They pretty much just uncap it pour it for you. For some reason I thought they had a lot more on tap. ----- I started with a Santa's Little Helper. It's like a super black expresso beer. So black the foam was black. ----- Second drink, I grabbed a.. (oh god, what was it called?) beer that tasted exactly like a blueberry muffin! I'm sure if you asked the bartender, they'll know exactly what it is. It was very cool tasting. *EDIT* It's called a Sea Dog! ----- I also had sips of their beer sampler (comes with 5 shots of different beers) and they were pretty disgusting imo. Finally! A place in Davis where they have a wide and great selection of beers for a good price! The majority of place in Davis have just bars and clubs where everyone's mission is to get chocolate wasted and see where the night goes. So a bar that is more of a "kick back and relax" place is nice to have. There is very selective seating (maybe 20 people at a time max), but it's well worth the wait. They have a ridiculously huge beer selection! Their customer service is great! They have a vast knowledge of their alcohol which is nice. I just tell them what kind of beer i'm into and they'll give me something totally different and great. For about $7-8 you can get 5 2 oz samplers which i think is a steal. Finally a pub worth going to in Davis! The Davis Beer Shoppe evokes both a Bottle Shoppe in Bruges and Portland's Belmont Station in that it is a small, informal pub and an epic beer store. The prices are almost unreal (very very reasonable), and the selection is probably the best in the Sacramento area. The rotating tap selection is so far always both impressive and idiosyncratic, as a good beer bar's tap list should be. Service is friendly and my only gripe is that the place isn't a whole city block large, since I just know the pub area is bound to be jam-packed 24/7 once people know this place is here. Davis's beer-lovers have just gotten much much happier. This is the best new business to open up in Davis since at least 2002 when I first arrived. read more

Oh Davis, you're just getting better! Love this new addition to downtown! I'm starting to appreciate and be more acquired to the taste of beer... apparently this little shop has about everything! I've tried their Timmerman's strawberry beer- such a yummy girly choice :) and rogue hazelnut. Can't go wrong with their ciders either... under 3 bucks a bottle their raspberry and pear ciders. This is my favorite spot in Davis! Great for beer enthusiasts! The atmosphere is lively and fun. The people are down-to-earth. No need to dress up in fancy high heels and tight skirts here, folks. I recommend getting the Rasputin on tap if you like dark beer! Very smooth and delicious. Con: The place is rather small, so seating is very limited. This is a good change of pace from the typical bars in Davis. Crowd is a bit older, atmosphere is cozy, and the beer selection is awesome. It does tend to get a little crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, but you don't feel sweaty or annoyed being crammed inside. Great place to go if you want to chat and enjoy a good brew. Wow, one of the very few meccas I've come across as a lover of craft brews. Taylor and the rest of the staff here are very knowledgeable about their beers (as they should be) and these guys boast one of the best selections I've ever seen and with no added premium to go along with it. The draught list was exceptional when I came in and I had the chance to taste some fantastic brews including Deschutes' Obsidian Stout and New Belgium's Belgo IPA. My one minor gripe is that the flight for each day is preset. Even so, the staff is more than happy to have you try a taste of anything on tap and the prices for both pours of those and the bottles are very reasonable. If you have even the teensiest bit of beer love in you, this place is an absolute must-visit in Davis! read more

First stop as a 21-year-old! I've had it in mind for years, and my commitment (so to speak) paid off. I had thirty minutes to close from midnight and had to make the most of it. The guy behind the counter was friendly, offering me two of their platter beer tasters for free for my birthday (in addition to a free birthday draft beer!) despite the fact that they stop serving their taster platter thing at 9 pm. I essentially got probably close to 2 bottled beers' worth of beer across 3 different drinks for free as a birthday gift. I'm SOLD. They had tons of variety and I know I'll be back again with friends for the remainder of my time in Davis to try some unique beers and hang out in a beer-enthusiast environment. YES. The one thing that struck me as strange is that I am from San Francisco and I had to go all the way to Davis for a straight up and proper beer spot. Sure there's like...alembic and whatever but they're all up on artisanal cocktails (which is cool but I'd rather have beer). Anyway, I came out to visit a friend and she showed me a few cool spots in the downtown area. Friend recommended that we check out this beer spot (as we were at a place that had dogfish head on tap and I exclaimed that in san francisco we barely have a place without anchor steam haha) Headed over and had a round (the names escape me at the moment) then said what hell and went with the tasting to top off the night. The tasting choice of the night was pretty nice: it was autumn theme which is not hard to balance but you'd be surprised how places can mix it up). As the sentiment is around here: superb selection, great and knowledgeable staff who can make a good, solid recommendation. I came in not knowing 80% of what was on tap so they described it well enough to make me happy with my selection (the name escapes me at the moment). I wasn't able to stay long enough to take it all in, but I will most certainly be browse the immense selection and pick up a few bottles as well. This place is small, but its my favorite place for microbrews and pre-game spot before hitting the bars in Davis. They have a great selection of IPAs and other brew on tap or bottled. Oh man I could get in trouble with their daily sampler for $7-8 for 5 2 oz types of beers. I love the concept, the shop has a real SHOP in the back to purchase international, domestic, hand-crafted, ales, lagers beers. Girls, if you don't really like beer, try the Banana Bread Beer, its totally worth it. I know boys who actually drink this beer too, its close to a Heiferwizen with a true distinct Banana Bread aroma and after-taste. I want to try the Blueberry Beer next, either than that, I skip the IPA...I am not a Hops kinda girl. The more yeast and light tasting beers are for me! No chocolatey beers or dark ones..it makes me want to cry! Can get crowded with limited seating, but I doubt you'd have any problems sharing a table. The Davis Beer Shoppe has a lot to live up to; not only does it have an awful name, but Davis is a beer snob town, and any establishment catering to that element has it's work cut out for them. That being said, my first impression is favourable. Not only do they have a nice eclectic variety of beers on tap, but they also have a very nice assortment of beer available chilled and on the shelves. While they may not have the most in depth assortment of exotic and bizarre beers, they have a nice well rounded selection, with all of the choices (that I've had the pleasure of drinking) being very solid choices. The tasting room does a lot to cater to as much of the Davis beer drinking population as possible; the music was playing noticeably (if quietly) in the background was a mix of doo-wop, old Americana and classic folk, the furniture is ironic western, and the big screen TVs insert a steady stream of ESPN (Thankfully on mute) into the room. It's small enough to be cozy, and to maintain that air of exclusivity. Whether the rush is due to demand, or simply the excitement of a new business in Davis is yet to be seen. While I greatly enjoyed my time spent at the Davis Beer Shoppe, it's continued success depends heavily on a a few things. If the 'Shoppe' is unable to maintain the quality and variety of the beer on tap, both by ensuring a wide assortment, and by maintaining the quality of the tap lines is essential to their continued success. Nothing would ruin this business more than poor beer hygiene. As well, they have to maintain interest in the beer being sold by continuing to seek out new and innovative releases. Refining their focus a little could help them maintain a greater depth of selection. If they can maintain the quality and selection, I will gladly upgrade them to 5 stars. Edit: After a month or so of frequent visits, I remain impressed by the quality and selection of the beer available. The taps rotate quickly, the lines are spotless and the glasses are mercifully un-frosted. If you like beer, you will like this place. Always new, fun and exciting! Been here twice since my last review and always picked a new beer. I like that they have so much selection and you can always have a FREE taste of what's on tap. Be prepared to spend about $3-6 for what's on tap and $5-9 for their main menu. Their "flights" are always 5 different beers and from what I've seen range from $3-8, depending on the quality of beer (there was a "flight" of only Bud light, Miller, etc beers for $2.95 - today's was two types of Guinness and a couple others for $5.95). LOVE their daily tastings: 4-9pm every day, with rotating themes, posted on their FB page wall. They have some really cool themes, for example, foreign ciders was yesterdays' and light fruity beers is today's. Yum! Like others have said, HUGE selection and great bartenders who can recommend different beers. There's the "tasting room" and a whole back area with beers you can buy to-go, or pay $1 to drink at the Shoppe. Unfortunately, seating is really limited; I really wish they could get more chairs, more tables, and more room, because it's really annoying purchasing a drink and having nowhere to sit and talk with your friends (even though they're not technically at capacity). If they could somehow get more room, a lot more people would stop by. Also, some of their beers are slightly overpriced, especially because you can get them at supermarkets for much cheaper. My turn to do a 5 star review of this place! As you have read, this place is small and does fill up during peak drinking times. Best to go on a random weekday, maybe right after work (you're free to grab dinner someplace and eat it here too!), and sample their tasting flight (only available from 4-9pm) or grab a beer on tap. I'm a SUPER lightweight drinker but thankfully they will sell you a half pour :) Like them on FB to see what tasting flight is available for the day as well as their beers on tap. They have SOOOO many beers in the back available for purchase. For $1 more you can drink it there. I'll be honest. I'm not a beer type of person... but this place is converting me. The atmosphere is completely chill. No need for short skirts and tight tops here. I've never seen a place like this before. The beer selection is amazing. I'm a light beer type of girl, but even their light beer menu is off the charts. Their customer service is really good too. Honestly, if you're out in downtown Davis on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday night or any night in particular, stop by the Beer Shoppe. It's worth it. The only downside is that they close way too early. Coolest booze joint in Davis. The Beer Shoppe is like the Vini of beer; this is the place to be if you're looking to experiment with different brews or to become a beer connoisseur. With the tasting room up front and a beer shop in the back, this is what beer heaven should be. You can find brews from all over the world here, so perhaps it's time to wean yourself off the Keystone and Natural, no? Don't be afraid to taste different brews and ask questions to find out what you like. A beer flight is a good way to start your brew adventure! I'm still learning about different brews myself, so I won't give any recommendations I may regret later. The place gets VERY crowded, very quickly. Get there early and reserve a beer keg table for you and your friends. This place is too cool. All the staff I've met so far (TJ, Scott, Taylor, Rachel) are all chill, professional and great at making people feel welcome. Awesome brews are to be expected and I have yet to hang out here without making a friend or two (the place just has one of those atmospheres). I personally think it's a great place to catch a game, read a book or entertain friends. The ever-changing beer tasting menu is thoughtful and academic in a sense; it really seems like the establishment is trying to help educate and open new doors for folks who are interested in beer. Without this store, there are innumerable brands that would never make it to market in town, and I am extremely grateful to have them here. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful; always a joy to go there during the day when they aren't so busy and have a chat with them. Only one of the greatest treasures of Davis. If I were to have Davis withdrawals on anything, it would be of the times coming here with buddies de-stressing from the week and talking about life. I love this place for it's chill atmosphere, friendly customer service, daily flight of beers, and the great beer selection in the back. Think beer library. This is a great place to escape to when you want to grab a nice beer and other places get crazy rowdy. This was my first time visiting the Beer Shoppe, it had been recommended to me several times. So, me and a girlfriend decided to stop in for a drink on a friday night. I was blown away by the selection of beer, and actually was impressed to find a beer I enjoyed in France but couldnt find here (Kronnenbourg). Since it was a friday night however, the place was so full that me and my friend had to stand awkwardly for a little while before a couple of seats opened up. But the charm, selection of beer, and knowledge of the staff more than made up for it. This place is also really reasonably priced, I had a pint of Blue Star on tap for 3.75. After leaving the bay area and missing a variety of good beer that I could get at Beer Revolution. Service is good, my one complaint is that the place is really small and gets packed fast. An expansion would be a great call for them. Their tasting flights are awesome too, particularly when it gets down to like 6 bucks for a flight of 5. they also have one of the best selections of beer I've seen outside of Bevmo. Faddy's favorite place in town really....So I am dragged to this establishment time and time again, but I am very happy to oblige since it is such a wonderful place! The only unique Beer Shoppe in Davis! I salute you Drinks: A- Based on Framboise Lambic Beer Apple-flavored. I am by no means a beer expert or even a beer novice! However Faddy is a beer connoisseur and this is by far, his favorite place in Davis. He always visits this shop every time he visits me haha. I like fruity alcohol drinks so he recommended me to try the Framboise. I really like the bubbly, fruity taste but over time, the taste cumulative became too bitter. Faddy really liked his Stone Ruination IPA as usual. Overall, the Beer Shoppe as Yelpers have mentioned have a plethora of beer choices for all the beers lovers! Even a novice like me was able to gulp something tasty down. Service: A Love LOVE the staff's uniforms! It is very professional and cute at the same time. Besides their swag attire, their customer service has been excellent. Every visit, they have been very accommodating and helpful. I was able to switch around some beers I was buying for Faddy and they allowed me to do so for a 6-pack! Although their policy for in-out entries is unfortunate, they're really friendly about bouncing the shop. Location/Ambiance: A- Most unique shop in town easily! They have two sections inside the store- the retail side and the bar. The retail side is stocked with beer of course and above their fridge you can see all the different types of tap sticks and a cool, bottle-cap picture of a person from afar. The bar side however is too small and usually accounts for the waiting customers outside. Their overall store theme is antique, Euro fun! Lovely beer mug collections and historical paintings from different places- It's lovely to gaze at! Prices: B- Personally, I think the beer is too expensive but that's just me. Let me preface this review by saying that I am not at all a fan of beer. I really cannot stand it. But then, you walk into this quaint little beer shoppe in the middle of Davis, which is honestly a city that I don't understand, and you think to yourself, oh, wait, this is not what I was expecting. You come up this little ramp/walkway thing, and are met by this HUGE bar that has all these signs and board above it advertising the beer that they sell. Looking to the left, just past the bar, you also see rows upon rows of different yummy looking drinks to taste. On the right you see cute seating with an interesting mix of people followed by a large window that looks onto the streets of Davis However, there is something here for everyone, including a LARGE selection of cider just for me! I absolutely loved whatever the cider was that I got, and the bartender guy was so great at helping me choose just the right one! I am so disappointed. My boyfriend, our friend and I went in 17 minutes prior to closing. 17. It's beer. It's our right to finish or not however quickly we choose. They refused service to us. We're clean cut, not drunk at all (just had a dinner and wanted a simple beer). We walk in, they take one look at our white, Asian, black selves and say 15 minutes prior, they stop pouring. Were the 20 plus people still there gonna be kicked out right at 11?? We also kindly explained that our friend is moving soon and wanted one last experience in Beer Shoppe.
