There people on the deck feeding the birds which attracted more ~ it would have been nice if staff stepped in and told them to stop. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! I gave one star only because the server was nice and she really isn't at fault for how bad this place is. Where to start???? Out of the way? Over priced? Poor quality food? Small portions? All of the above! $15 cocktail... weak poor, over Iced, in a plastic ( probably BPA ridden) kid's sand bucket. I ordered the steak bites with garlic toast appetizer $13.00 6oz of low grade flavorless beef cut into 12 chunks served Med. with one small piece of garlic bread cut in half. ( Tasted like frozen pre-made garlic toast) ( also the only thing that had any flavor). Veggie and hummus was about $8.50 and was a mix of cucumber, tiny carrots, celery, and jicama strips served with prossesed hummus and stale bagged corn chips. We told the server that the chips were stale and she brought us a second basket. ( also tasted stale and probably from the same bag. ) My girlfriend had a burger and tots. She was totally satisfied with her purchase. ( she's easily pleased when it comes to food) As long as she isn't paying or having to cook for herself she is stoked. Earlier today I found her feeding on bagged croutons and stale cereal at the house. She was in survival mode because I wasn't cooking and she wasn't sure when we were going out dinner. I will not be coming back to this place. If you like the atmosphere try Island Cafe. It's similar but with better quality food, still pricey but justified for the quality and quantity. My best friend and I were out for dinner and these random jersey shore lookin guys came up to our table and joined us. Mind you, my friend is nearly 9mo prego and I'm engaged. We were uncomfortable. Our server came up to the guys and told them, "Due to Covid protocol, I need to ask you guys to go back to your table." When they went back, I said to her "I'm not sure if that's actually part of your protocol, but thank you so much." I'm not sure what her name was but bless her soul. We decided to take a four hour drive on a Tuesday. Can't say I would do it again. These are the reasons why: 1) The airport. There were frequent take-offs that interrupted ALL conversation. When we first got out of the car, two jets were taking off that shook the car windows. 2) We hit the time when the three hour jet boat ride visited the restaurant. There is one, unisex bathroom that we had to wait for. 3) As we returned to our car, a lady told us not to park where we had. She had her Escalade broken into the previous week with her car window getting broken. She worked next door. She mentioned there is numerous homeless people living in the area and we could see the tents on our way back to the freeway. 4) No handicap parking; not wheelchair, walker or really even cane accessible, esp. at low tide. On the plus side, the waitress was super friendly. The food was good and matched the pricing. There were blackbirds walking on the dining tables in the bar. Her mask was below her nose and she was not wearing gloves. We ordered the bucket of clams which were sandy and didn't taste fresh.....we ate less than 1/2 of them. I found my "spot"! What a beautiful evening. We had dinner at The Deck on a perfect Portland evening. My ideal meal. Starting with a yummy Mai Tai and then diving into a basket of fried clams. The clams were huge, plump and delicious. There were sailboats gliding down the Columbia River and baby ducks paddling by to check things out. Been here twice. Very friendly- great menu and overall real nice experience. We came in on a boat. Be careful coming in - as it's about 1-2' deep near the entrance at the end of July. Don't cut straight across from the Washington side- come in parallel upstream and stay close to The boathouses. We hit sand with the prop- but not rocks. So all good. Just go slow and watch your depth. Anyway everyone was happy with their burgers, big salad, and drinks. A nice backup to Three Sheets or Island Cafe. More casual than those two. We got in quick on a Wednesday night. Weekends are obviously a lot busier. We will be back. read more

Very unique little place, kind of hard to find if you don't know it's there. Right on the water and you can sit on the dock outside that floats up and down during your meal, that was really cool. The service was ok, a little hard to catch the waitress sometimes even though they give you this red/green card for signaling if you need anything (red= i need something, green = I'm fine). This was a bit counter intuitive. I ordered the dagwood I think it was called, turkey, 2 cheeses, bacon, pastrami...a whole bunch of meat. It was very big, decently good, not amazing but definitely filling. The French fries were quite good, well seasoned and well cooked. Ordered a mini ice cream sandwich, which was great for a dollar! I was visiting from Hawaii, originally from Portland. I am a Deck veteran. It has always been a great stop, but my dinner with family last evening was not good at all. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was over-battered and over-cooked. I would have done better at home with something frozen from Costco. My sister's Reuben sandwich was so damp with sauerkraut juice that the bottom piece of bread disintegrated. The prices are much higher than before, but if the meal is worth it, I am fine with paying more. I don't plan to return. read more

In past years I always loved the fish tacos. This new version is one of the worst fish tacos I have ever had. It looked like a fish stick with a little Cole slaw on top smothered in a sweet thick salad dressing wrapped in a flour tortilla. It was terrible. My friend had a Kettle One Vodka Tonic it tasted like water. Won't come back for a meal, but would come for the setting, a beer and maybe a basket of fries or shrimp cocktail. A houseboat-style restaurant on the river with a huge patio... it's a great concept. Unfortunately, at The Deck, it's just not very well-executed. Four of us dined here a few Sundays back to celebrate Father's Day. We had a mid-afternoon reservation and had no trouble getting a table. The menu is mostly sandwiches and burgers, with a few seafood options thrown in. Two at my table had burgers and neither was excited about what came out. For $8+, it had no frills, no special toppings, and came with a little bag of plain Lays. I had the albacore tuna melt on toast. Again, it was OK, but there was just nothing notable about it. The cheese slice on top was half-melted. My dad wanted something really light, so we he went with cottage cheese and "seasonal fruit." He got three slices of watermelon. With cottage cheese? OK... ? The other problem was that our sever was stretched way too thin. She was hustling all over the place and giving it here best, but she was basically the only one out there. It took us quite a while to order and get our food, plus she forgot to bring our fries (again, I'm not blaming her). Like I said, it's a great concept. It's kinda fun to sway on the water as you enjoy your meal and drink. The idea that boats can pull up to t the dock and grab food is fun. I'm sure that the prices reflect how seasonal the business is and the cost of running a restaurant on the water. I'm a California girl who went to "The Deck" on the most beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon ever in Portland. This may skew my opinion of the place a bit. It was the perfect location to spend a nice afternoon thanks to the outdoor seating right on the water. Not sure I would go back to this restaurant on an "average" Portland day. The service was outstanding, although I wondered if they were a little understaffed for the afternoon since I only ever saw two people serving food and drinks. The food was ok. I'd eat it again, but wouldn't rave about it to anyone. My friend and I got (and shared) a huge garden salad which was really nice and the fish and chips which were ok, nothing special. I did like the fries, but I wondered if everything had been frozen. Wouldn't be surprised. I would recommend this place on a great, sunny day when you want to be outside to enjoy a few drinks or happy hour. I feel like you're paying lots of money for food from the freezer isle from Winco. I realize this is right on the river, but so is Puffin Cafe & they have delicious food. Went here for my mother-in-law's Birthday. She ordered a sandwich & I ordered a burger. Both were terribly dry. We always got some shrimp appetizer, it was pretty much all shredded lettuce & hardly any shrimp. We got lucky & got a table almost right away. They were super, super busy, but we had the best waitress ever! I'm really picky about my drinks being refilled in a timely manner. In 90+ degree weather our waitress never let our glasses go empty! We sat close to the inside of the place & I watched all the servers work (as we waited forever for our food) The servers here work their asses off!! All seemed friendly & working together. My husband and Dad got the fried oyster basket, my Mom got the shrimp salad and I got the fish tacos. Plus we got two appetizers - happy hour nachos and steamers. All were very tasty and flavorful. My Mom and I got happy hour margaritas and my Dad got beer. The service was excellent, with smiles on their faces the servers brought out our food as quickly as they could. The view was great and the seating was excellent. Considering we went on a Sunday night (tonight) and it was busy shows that this is the place to be on a Sunday afternoon. This is a way cool place on the Columbia It's only open for the season Apr to Sept. We found it on Yelp and just in time as they close tomorrow. The owner Joyce stopped by our table to chat and tell us the history . The staff all friendly and accommodating and the ambience Was fun & the sunset divine.
