Went here in summer of 2013 for my husband's birthday with my in-laws. It's not a fancy place but the food and drinks were good. Service was decent, it was a weeknight so not very crowded. The VIEW was what got me. There was a sail boat race going on or something like that and it was the perfect setting for a nice birthday dinner. Definitely must try if you are in the area, if only for the experience of eating on a floating boat deck on a river and the view. read more

Visiting from out of town, my mom, sister and I were looking for a yummy spot with a view! It was perfectly sunny outside and they had great food and drinks! I moor my boat at the marina that The Deck is located at. I figured I would go in and get some food while I was working on my boat. I got the halibut fish and chips and also an order of the Caesar salmon salad. For how much the halibut fish and chip cost I would've expected hand dipped portions of fish, but I was disappointed to see that it was only premade frozen fish and the three little pieces were pretty skimpy and over cooked. The salmon salad was fair but for $15 I would've expected a lot better. And I went to the bar to order my food and was looking at the menu trying to decide what I was going to get and the bartender was incredibly impatient and started waving his arms at me to hurry and tell him what I wanted to order. You think the fact that I am still holding up the menu might mean I am still thinking and maybe he could ask if I need help deciding what crappy item to order. Pretty disappointed with my first visit here. Poor quality food at a premium price. read more

This is a one of a kind place located off of the Columbia River.... Hands down amazing food, amazing staff, breath taking atmosphere! It is a seasonal restraunt open from April- September. Happy Hour from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m 7... SEVEN days a week!!! Everyone is super friendly.... you can pull your boat, jetski, canoe, kayak, paddle board.... you name it right up to the dock. Hop off, go in for lunch, dinner, cocktails. Their signature cocktails are to die for and not only that, they are fun! There have been parties from 1-75+ and the staff handles it very well. Have witnessed some wedding proposals which was just beautiful with the sunset in the background. Definitely have to give it to the owners! They are there every single day that the place is open and they are 2 of the most wonderful people I've ever gotten the pleasure of meeting! Unfortunately, their close date for the season is September 24th, but I cannot wait to go back there next April when they reopen!!! The atmosphere is wonderful, a perfect place to visit on a sunny afternoon. I have eaten here twice in the last two weeks and had excellent service the first time (just 2 of us), but experienced very slow service on the second visit. It was much busier the second time I went, and I was with a group of eight. It took almost an hour to get our food, and half the table was served 15 minutes before the rest of us. The fish tacos, shrimp cocktail and nachos were all good, but the happy hour prices were pretty steep for a happy hour menu. Just be OK with going there for the location, not the great deals, and you'll enjoy yourself. read more

Accepting an invitation for my first visit to The Deck, I was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem. It's a comfortable, casual, family and pet friendly place right on the Columbia River. I ordered a pomegranate margarita & halibut tacos - the drink was delicious, and the "tacos" were overflowing with yummy fish & crunchy coleslaw - so good! Our server was personable and friendly, and even attended to our dogs - treats and buckets of water were brought for our four legged companions! There is a toy box for little ones, and you can ask for a light blanket/shawl if you get chilly out on the deck. All in all, it was delightful! I'd love to go back ! read more

Amazing place to eat! Husband said the halibut fish tacos are the best he's ever had. I had the fish and chips which were super good too. Docked our boat right next to the seating area, super convenient to keep an eye on it. Emily was a our waitress and she was fantastic! Great menu, excellent drinks and superb service. The location of this restaurant is really cool. However it was extremely hot when my boyfriend and I went. We asked to be seated in the shade and the server did the exact opposite. She tried to seat is at a table that was reserved at 5pm and we had gotten there around 4. She then moved us and that table was reserved for 6pm and I again said something. She gave us a lot of attitude. I just didn't want to run into the reservation we didn't know how long we'd be there for. The drinks were fine but the food was terrible. we both got the salmon tacos and the dressing on the slaw on the tacos tasted like straight mayonnaise. It was awful.it came with chips which were just the nacho chips that you would get at a sporting event. Our server was nice but a bit on the slow side. It was neat to be on the water and to watch the boaters but that was about the only redeeming quality. read more

Great food, great prices and even better service! They were very busy when we went but they continued to treat every customer as if they weren't busy and to take our time enjoying our meal. We docked at the available dock side which was convenient! I do suggest putting a sign for new people to the location by way of water; we entered on the left hand side of the restaurant but no docks available for parking, you must enter on the right side. read more

Always a great experience here. I have been here with a group for happy hour as well as with family for dinner. Tonight it was just me and my son. Both of us got burgers -- juicy & got them they way we ordered them. The place is busy, however the staff is on top of things and make the visit all the better. On top of it all, a view of the river. Made my first first trip to The Deck this weekend. WOW! Great place. I'll definitely be coming back and bringing my friends. What's not to like? Cool summer drinks and some of the best steamer clams I've ever had. The service was friendly but not pushy. I felt like we were regulars even though this was our first time. I want to start off by saying I almost never write bad reviews for restaurants. I worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years and have a lot of respect for people who not only work in it, but are brave enough to ignore the odds and open their own place. That being said, last Saturday afternoon was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. My friend and I arrived at the deck a bit later than the rest of the group, and after sitting for about 10 minutes with no service, a friend of mine got up and went to the bar to order a drink. He returned moments later saying the bartender wouldn't serve him because we had our own server. So after waiting about 10 more minutes, I went up to the bar to order drinks, and was greeted by a man that was extremely irritated that I dare try to order a drink from him when we had our own server. However, after explaining that I had been waiting for almost 20 minutes with no service, he angrily made me a drink. After that the service at the table seemed to get a little better(not sure if it's because I made it clear we were getting bad service, or if it was just a coincidence-either way I was happy). Unfortunately about 15 minutes later, the rude bartender from earlier came outside shook the backs of my friend and I's chairs, and scolded "you guys have to get up, this table is reserved, and those chairs belong to this table". Yes, the chairs did belong to the table behind us, and we would have been glad to give them back to them, but the choice of words, and tone of voice he used was uncalled for and rude. If all of that wasn't bad enough, after we moved it started to get a little sunny, and one of my friends tried to put the umbrella up, not only did the our server get super pissed at us, and repeat about 5 times that customers weren't allowed to touch the umbrellas; but about 5 minutes later she came back out and told us "she had been 'told' she had to put our umbrella back down, and she couldn't tell us why". At this point, we are all irritated and squinting to see, when I looked over just in time to see the table next to me complaining that there is a huge hair in their food. The lady hands the hair to the server, who without even thinking about it, grabs it, looks at it, throws it on the ground, apologizes, and walks away. Of course everyone around was disgusted knowing there was now a huge hair floating around the deck on a windy day, which started a long conversation between a few tables of how terrible the restaurant was, and that none of us would ever return. I understand that restaurants have rules, and that dealing with large groups of people isn't always easy or fun, but they call it customer service for a reason. So if you're a restaurant or server that isn't into accommodating paying customers, you're probably in the wrong industry. read more

Very disappointed with everything about this place. Service was bad. Ordered a big shrimp salad which was made with no imagination. A full head of lattice sliced in quarters topped with tasteless shrimp one cherry tomato. I hated it. No napkin, and salt and pepper on tables. Preparing to fly out of the airport, we wanted to find a fun and unique place for our last dinner in Portland. After finding reviews we decided on the Deck, more than anything for its unique location. And a unique location it certainly is. The location is not well-signed once you reach the parking lot. It was after asking someone in the parking lot that we found we had to go down the (very steep and not sandal-friendly) ramp and out to the end of the dock. Once we found it we were promptly seated on the side of the restaurant that faces an old pier filled with stagnant water. Hmm. Once seated we found that, as we had an early evening flight, we were in time for the Deck's happy hour "specials." We quickly discovered, however, that the happy hour specials for food were simply half the serving size for half the price. We were seated by a friendly hostess and waited on by a waitress who, by her demeanor, seemed to want to be anywhere but at work. She took our orders for the shrimp cocktail, fish taco, and coconut shrimp with an enthusiasm that even Ben Stein would be ashamed of. The food was served quickly, though we were plenty entertained while we waited by watching birds dart under tables in search of crumbs. And the food? Eh, pretty mediocre. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The shrimp was fresh but the cocktail sauce was bland. The coconut shrimp was soggy, though the sauce was pretty good. The fish tacos were certainly ok, but on the bland side. If you want a unique place to eat fairly close to the airport, this is a good place. If you enjoy watching the river (and bobbing while you eat), this place is hard to beat. If you're in search of good food and friendly service, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

Food was great, service was good, they allow dogs on a leash which is even more awesome (They also give your dog water in a sand bucket). Hubs had oysters and I had the Dagwood sandwich, we both enjoyed our choices. The location is what makes this place a 5! read more

Cool place right on the water. The place is actually on a dock and you can feel it swaying and moving. Halibut fish tacos were really good. Walking around the docks you have to step over a lot of duck poop and there were some birdies inside the restaurant buzzing the tables. read more

If you're looking for an experience and not simply a meal, then this is the place for you! The Deck is an open-air restaurant directly on the Columbia River near NE 33rd & Marine Drive. It's not easy to find - look for a tall cyclone fence with a sign reading "McCuddy's Marina." When you go through the fence, be sure to park your car on the LEFT side of the lot. The right side is reserved for those who lease space for their boats and houseboats on the dock. There's a rather steep gangplank leading down to the dock, but it has a sturdy railing on which to hold. The restaurant, as you might guess, is seasonal - open May through the end of September. (It will close after 9/26/15 this year.) When we eat here, I actually feel like I'm out of town and on vacation. Every once in a while, you see boaters pull up, park, and sit down to order a meal. It's a very festive atmosphere. If it should rain, part of the restaurant provides a sheltered area. You'll be surprised when you see the menu - the prices are modest. A favorite of mine is the grown-up grilled cheese sandwich. Happy Hour - believe this! - from 11 am to 6 pm. They do close at sunset (probably because you'll need to walk back up the gangplank to your car.) We love this place, and we hate to see it close every September. read more

Tonight was our second visit in a week to The Deck. I decided to go there to celebrate Mother's Day, a day early, to avoid all of the craziness that is eating out on Mother's Day proper. It's out near the airport, and it's great because you're right on the water. However, their service is less than great--for instance, they had no record of our reservation even though I talked to the gal this morning, and she called back at noon today to CONFIRM our reservation...And to top it all off, when I brought it to their attention after we'd been sitting there forever, and they had seated several larger parties before us that had arrived after us, there was no comped appetizer or even apology...I guess when you're that popular, you don't have to have good service...Anyway, it was a nice dinner, and the food was good. read more

Great place to go for a relaxed evening under the sun. Their food is decent and alcohol is good. The wildlife is great if you enjoy sharing your table with some curious birds.
