I don't get the five-star reviews from othersZ I ordered the steak and cheese and was not impressed. Where's the melty and stretchy provolone? It came with some cheese whiz unidentifiable sauce. Also mushrooms - eww. The bread was not good either. Overly chewy and lacked the crisp exterior and softness. I tired of hyped up reviews that I suspect are fake. Ordered. "The mad Italian", a "tuna melt", and "the deli". Everyone of us loved our sandwiches, the bread was excellent. They have a nice assortment of hot peppers, beer (to go), chips and drinks. Honestly a really good local deli. The interior reminds you of a bustling city like New York or maybe New Jersey. The chip selection is no joke so don't be afraid to peruse the racks like a library. The selection of deli sandwiches is alright, it could be much more in my opinion, but nothing wrong with it. My go to is the New Yorker, it's the perfect amount of meat to coleslaw to bread ratio and fills you up. The workers are always nice and courteous and generally seem happy to be there. My only thing is that every time i have gone in their toaster(?) isn't working and I would really prefer a hot sandwich sometimes. Other than that really awesome store, highly recommend if you are in the area and itching for a sandwich. read more

We saw this deli while driving by and decided to try it. There were three of us and we ordered subs. Everything went well until checkout and the person making the subs told use next time to order ahead. I'm not sure why we were told this since everyone else was ordering while in the store and there was no sign that said order ahead only. It was a simple order. Not sure how we could have called ahead when we just decided to stop in while driving by. Other than that we let her know next time we will go next door and not come back. My only complaint about the sandwiches was the bread was a bit chewy compared to other sub sandwiches I have had. Other than that it was good. I would give 4 stars for the sandwiches but 1 star for the attitude and poor marketing skills showed the the employee. I don't understand all the 5 star reviews about this place. They are clearly paid reviews or friends of the owner. In short stay away from this place, there are much better deli shops in the area. The Deli is your run of the mill deli shop you would find in your typical office building. No way in hell is this place The Best Deli shop ever. Overpriced. They charge extra for banana & sweet peppers (that's a first). They skimp on condiments (if you ask for more, they give you a look as if they are about to say that will be extra charge). They don't put enough meat or cheese in the sub & if you want more well guess what that's extra (3 slices of cheese on an 8" sub that costs upwards of $8 is highway robbery). The bread they use is your typical sub roll you find in any old grocery store. They don't even keep napkins outside, have to ask for napkins. Even their oil & vinegar doesn't taste that good. If I had no where else to eat, then I would say this is an OK place. Otherwise it's overpriced & underwhelming sandwich shop. read more

I was finally let down by the majority of reviews. Let me explain. I am not saying that the food was bad. I am not saying that the service was bad. In fact, the service was fine. It is kind of like going into any other run of the mill deli. My first disappointment was seeing my sandwich meat and cheese come out of a fridge under the counter already put together! They just slapped the whole massive pile onto a large sub roll. Any hopes for an authentic Italian deli went out the window. The sandwich (Millino) was not bad but it was worth about 2/3rds of what they charge in my book. You could not taste the individual meats or the provolone. I attribute that to having all the meats resting together in the fridge for who knows how long. Any good deli that I have ever been to slices the meat when you order. Even Subway keeps the meats separate. I will say that the roll was very good with a nice chewiness to it. Again, if I wasn't expecting 4.5 star food, I wouldn't have been disappointed. Maybe my tastebuds took the day off. I will try this place again just to be sure, but I will get a small sub of a different style. read more

I have been eating at the Deli for 14 years. When they were next to the Dairy Queen I went there. When they moved down Lee Highway I kept going there. When I used to work in Herndon I went to that location. The Deli is my favorite sandwich shop in the area. The staff is always super friendly. They also make the best cannolis that I have been able to find in northern Virginia. read more

A coworker was raving about this place so I figured that I would try it out. I went in and it was completely empty. I was skeptical. If this place is so good then why isn't anyone in here?! The woman who was working was pleasant and friendly. I ordered the Super Smokey Sub for my husband and the Steak and Cheese for myself to go. The woman was very efficient and worked quickly. I was in and out of there in 5 minutes, which I couldn't help but wonder if that was the reason no one was there, they get you out of there quickly so no need to hang around! When I got home the subs were quickly devoured! My husband loved the Super Smokey (ham, turkey, roast beef, cheese). His only negative comment was that it was too big and too much meat. Too much?! And how is that a bad thing?! They didn't have a lot of choices regarding toppings for the sub, besides the basic lettuce, tomato, mayo, pickles, pickled peppers, and onions but he was happy with that since it didn't take flavor away from the meat. My steak and cheese was really good as well. There was more meat on it than other sub shops and the meat had a good flavor to it. Overall the place was pretty good. I am not going to rave about it to anyone, but I would definitely go back. In fact I have gone back. The hubby wanted subs from there a week after our first experience. The second time we went I got a sandwich with pumpernickel bread (yum!!!) And yes, the place was empty again. Just a side note- when paying I was asked to pay with cash. I never have cash and when I paid with credit she seemed to be a bit annoyed but was still friendly about it. read more

Stop by for lunch today and boy was I disappointed. The mediocre subs were a little over priced at $7-$10. Cheese was an extra 50 cents and it's not indicated on the menu or told until you pay. Your better off going to Wegmans up the road. Much better quilts meats and subs which includes cheese, soup and drink all under $10 read more

We have been wanting to try this place back when it was on jermantown but never did. Now it is in a cute strip mall we have wanting to check out, so double reason for going. It was great! I had the pastrami sandwich I have been craving and it was not greasy at all. The server was great because I was very specific on how I wanted it. Husband got a roast beef sandwich and the meat was fresh and perfectly rare. Bread was soft and fresh. We almost got a cannoli, they make it fresh for you but we already had plans to go elsewhere. I only got it because I noticed the person working there making one for another coustomer I akso notice that she gave them 4 scoops of tuna but only gave me 3 my sandwich was not good at all it was very bland and there was hardly and tuna on my sandwich zi feel pissed off that sandwich cost me $10.49 I could have went to wagmans and brough 2 can of tuna and a French bread and made own tuna subs for about $6.00 the tuna was so lite that i had to cut my halfs in half to double up on what tuna I did have I will never go back !!!!! read more

Terrible deceptive business practices. Went in to make a purchase, was charged more than what the purchase should have cost. When I asked why it was more than it should have been, I was told of you don't meet the minimum amount to use a credit card then we have to charge you extra. I asked to speak to a manager for a reimbursement, during which I asked him the same question. I stated there were no signs posted in writing that said there was a minimum charge for credit cards. He responded by saying that's why we tell the customers before. I stated I was told that after my card had been shipped and charged, and after I brought it to the attention of the cashier. He said he would talk to her. No apology, no I'm sorry, nothing. If you want to purchase from an ethical place that doesn't have deceptive charging practices, don't come here. read more

I would give this Deli 0 stars but is not possible! Went to this place for the first time yesterday. Got there at 330pm (wasnt aware they closed at 4pm) so I ordered a sub which I wanted it Hot when the lady tells me the ovens are all off! She said they get turned off before they close do they could be cool. First of all, a good business practice is you make your customer the hot sub. They are not cheap and now im just dissapointed. I uderstad the employee wanted to go home but it was HALF AN HOUR before not 5 minutes prior to closing! If it is store policy that they turn off ovens and dont make HOT subs half an hour before closing they ShOULD have a sign stating this. TRYING to find the one to complaint about this is nearly imposible! Got 2 subs $25 dollars later, I wont be going to this establishment again! So, PSA if you want a Hot sub make sure you dont show up half an hour prior to closing becuase they wont make it for you! read more

Not impressed whatsoever. Subway style deli. I didn't see a grill so idk how they cook the food.. I suppose there's one in the back. I ordered a stk n chz sub only mayo grilled onion n shrooms. He microwaved the steak! and the onions n shrooms came from a hot well which was more of a steam/boil. I got my food and came back because I thought there was no cheese on it. Turns out the cheese was UNDER the steak. Never seen that before. First bite.. bland! The Mayo even had no flavor. No fries but they have a selection of bagged chips and bottled drinks. 8.50 for a bland sub? I won't be back! Try the other pizza shops in the plaza.. Pretty sure they have better food read more
