While better than some other consignment stores in the area (racks aren't jammed, he quality is high, and the women who work here are very friendly), be wary about selling here. On the paper you sign when first consigning, it indicates that checks will be sent at the beginning of each month, but I have yet to receive one three months later. I called and was told that all of my items save for one had sold. The last two times I was in the store, there were women complaining about not getting paid - one who had sold high end clothing and was owed about $200 dollars. Apparently it was her third time trying to get her check. Follow up: After calling twice to ask about the check that I was owed, it finally arrived five days after the second call. read more

I have been selling my clothing, jewelry, shoes and handbags here for two years now. In those two years I have probably had three to four consignment transactions. To be honest, they price their merchandise on the low end so they can move it. That is the one bad side. However, they DO sell your clothing, etc.. Every time I go back (I live in San Jose and I drive up to the city just so The Designer Consigner can sell my items- the drive is worth it!), most of my pieces (approximately 75%-85%) are gone and I get a nice big check. You have to take a lot of clothing in and it must be GOOD clothing (Tory Burch, Nordstrom, Theory, St. John, etc.) They do not accept clothing that is not from a good and well-known designer. However, they have been very pleasant and will sell some of my less expensive sterling silver jewelry (again, the mark their prices very low and keep a commission), so be very careful in regard to what jewelry you take in. I would NOT recommend taking 14k jewelry to this store for consignment. Either go the eBay or jewelry consigner route for fine jewelry. The best part of The Designer Consigner is the staff. They have ALWAYS been so nice and HONEST (something that is extremely rare nowadays). Once, I left behind some fine jewelry on their counter and did not realize it so they put it in a bowl, on their side of the register. After two months, I returned to the store and as I was waiting by the register for my non-sold clothes and my check I noticed some jewelry which looked oddly familiar. I thought for a moment and then said, "Hey, that is my jewelry, how did it end up here?" They said that it was left on the counter, but they didn't know by whom. When I told them that it was my jewelry and I must have left it behind they completely believed me. I was so glad to get my jewelry back without any hassle or hesitation by the owner and sales person. One last thing... they have two locations. Their location in Union Square carries their higher end merchandise which I LOVE. They make sure that the best merchandise they receive goes to that store and they ask a bit more at that location in general. I know that almost all of my pieces end up at The Union Square location. One more last thing...they even give GREAT customer service to sellers, not just the buyers. Always pleasant and never have I heard a negative comment. All I have to do when I am ready to pick up my merchandise and check is to allow them 24 hours notice to gather the merchandise and issue your check. They have always been prepared when I arrive, non-sold items are put neatly back into a bag. If I drive 120 (both ways) to sell at this store there is a darn good reason! Give them a try, you will love it! read more

Like all consignment (and other) stores you never know if you will find what you want or not...but I really like shopping here. The store is well lit and spacious, unlike Good Buys up the street which has more merchandise but is really hard to shop in. Once in a while I find something truly truly great here (two pair of my wear everyday favorite slacks/jeans) and I often enjoy looking at other things. My sister got a fantastic Armani suit and a ballgown here. They They seem to accept, on consignment, items that have 'name labels', as the store name implies.... Its a great neighborhood resource. read more

I came here on a daytrip with a friend, and I must say I was impressed. I found a lot of cute items, and I bought a Bebe dress and Ralph Lauren dress (both were 50.00) and both still had tags still on. The woman working was extremely friendly and even called someone to tell us which Muni to take to a BART station. My friend and I went to the consigner shops down the street; forgot what their name was, but it's the store that takes your bag and puts it behind the counter out of fear of shoplifiting, and I must say our experience at that store was TERRIBLE, so it was so awesome to come here and be treated with respect, and not followed around being watched 24/7! definitely will be coming back again! read more

This place feels a bit more posh than Good Byes because it's not as packed to the gills and the merchandise is displayed with more thought. But that's at the expense of less stuff to root through. But I think Designer Consigner is a bit more selective in what they take because the items they have are younger and more trendy. Staff here is more personable, too. read more

Great place to buy designer clothes, and accessories for a fraction of the price. I found a great Bebe Blazer, and a Pink Ann Taylor Blazer for like $30/each! The store is organized really well, and the sales associates are really helpful. Even though these items are secondhand they are in great condition. if you come in often and are lucky, you can find something in here for a good price. the selection is not as good as Cris..but definitely worth checking regularly. Salespeople are friendly and atmosphere is better than Goodbyes. read more

Recently dropped off items to be sold and as always was greeted with a smile! The staff is professional and know what they are doing. If they are unsure on how to price your merchandise they research it before it goes on the floor. Items are reasonably priced, carefully inventoried, and diligently paid on time. One of the great values of selling your merchandise with Brenda is that she has two store front locations, Sacramento St. and Sutter St. plus she also has an ebay store - you can be assured your merchandise will not sit and will be sold quickly. The owner, Brenda, always ensures the Chanel or other designer items are originals and is very well versed in copies which are not accept for sale at her store. If you need to score on designer items reasonably priced, this is your store! read more

This is an amazing place to find a designer labeled gown for pennies on the dollar for that Gala or Event that happens just once a year. I have found a lot of treasures here for parties of all levels. read more

My girlfriends and I decided to do some second hand shopping in the city. I saw this place while out the night before. Although I didn't find anything for me, my friends scored big time. A cute Theory jacket with a deep brown moc fur collar, mint conditon and way cute, $30. My other friend found this fab purse for her sister with amazing and intricate detailing on it for $20. Looked brand new. Great shoes, tons of cool skirts. The women who work here were hands off and not pushy. Friendly and professional. My friend found an amazing black lace skirt with subtle rhinestone detailing for $30. Feels more like a boutique, many high end bags and shoes. Will return any time we are up in the city to do more damage on our wallets. read more

I really liked this store! My husband's ex (yes, we are friendly, referred me. I had never been to a consignment store before, and I found the experience to be very good. The store was clean, the staff was alitte snotty, but the merchandise was great. The prices were very fair. However, if I ever had the experience that one reviewer mentioned about suspecting that she took something, and they wanted to search her purse. I would have called the police! read more

Just down the street from another great consignment store (Good Byes), this shop carries women's name brand and designer clothes that are in excellent condition for much less than retail. They also have a second store just off of Union Square (Sutter, near Powell) so if you don't have any luck at one location you can always go check out the other one. read more
