we loved our stay at the Dewberry. The place is fantastic and a great location. Near King Street and close to downtown. The confusion recommended a number of restaurants and they were all perfect. They also have a very nice complementary car service that will take you into town if you want. We also decided to take the beach package for the day, including a beautiful Volvo van, and the car was stocked with beach, chairs, umbrellas, and water. We had a great day and took advantage of this I would highly recommended the other really nice surprise. Was the rooftop lounge which we discovered on our last night! what a treat! we spent memorial day weekend here and When we come out to Charleston we will be sure to make this our hotel of choice. I like this hotel as they've done an amazing job with this seriously ugly building. Staff is very attentive property is attractive and well-kept, casual and comfortable with a bit of the bougie bougie crowd, not sure if that's a plus ha ha! Very nice hotel about a minute 15 walk from the most popular historical Charleston sites and across the street from a big city park. Beautiful common areas, tastefully decorated. You can actually feel the class of Charleston when you walk in the doors. We enjoyed our two night stay and had drinks at the living room bar and lunch one day at Henrietta's. Our room had everything we needed but was a little on the smaller side. My only wish was that there was a pool, but understanding that this was once a government building, I know the limitations. When we went to approach the woman standing in front of the elevators about going up to the rooftop at 4, pm this afternoon I met rude. I stayed at The Dewberry over the summer with my mom for a mini vacation! We enjoyed a few aspects of the hotel so I'm reviewing all of them! Each aspect was definitely a 5/5! Sleeping Rooms: They aren't the most spacious, but they are super comfortable! The bed was great and there was plenty of space to storage luggage. The bathroom was superrrr spacious. It could have been a bit smaller in my opinion to make some room for the bedroom area. The amenities included were really great as well. Restaurants: We went to the lobby restaurant as well as the rooftop one. The lobby one had a limited menu but everything we ordered was really good! Their coffee/hot beverages were delicious too. We went to the rooftop restaurant at night for the views and only ordered drinks. The drinks were good but nothing super exceptional - it's definitely about the view. Spa: I got a message at their spa and my mom got a facial. We were both super happy and the overall experience was very relaxing. They have a great ambiance with their waiting room as well as the service rooms. Customer service was great all around!! read more

The Dewberry claims to be 5-star, but curious as to how. I asked three times for our fridge to be fixed, and after finally asking what they would do to fix it, they brought up this junky fridge. No apologies, nothing. People pay for a 5-star place to not deal with minute problems; however, with this and the pretentious staff, I'm not sure how this place gets away with a 5-star rating. This review is based solely on the bar - which we visit when looking for a great pre-dinner cocktail. Located on the left side of the first floor, this large open area is a great place to sip and enjoy a cocktail with friends. With multiple sitting options inside and out, you can get service at your seat, or just go to the bar. They do not have a menu full of craft cocktails, but have a menu full of their wines, beer, and liquors (to make your favorite cocktail). The windows surrounding the area make it very bright and open during the daytime, and the evening is lit with perfect ambient lighting for relaxing. The inside decor is classy cool, and the service is professional and friendly. We love going here when downtown, and will return. read more

From trees, to lights, to huge floral arrangements, all glitters beautifully. We met some friends for a quick cocktail before attending another event. I enjoyed a very delicious Bees Knees, a favorite of mine. The bartender did not disappoint as he knew exactly how to make one. read more

I am only giving this location 4 stars instead of 5 because we didn't order anything off the food menu and I can't give a true 5 star unless I can fairly recommend the food. HOWEVER. We sat in the Living Room for an afternoon cocktail. I honestly didn't know what most of the ingredients were so I asked our server for some suggestions. I ended up going with the Icher & Glass since it contains whiskey and I am a fan of whiskey! My two companions both ordered Panic Buttons; I had a sip and although it was fantastic, I preferred my Icher & Glass. I love the gigantic ice cubes. We had a little spiel from the manager who explained that the ice cubes are basically hand-made from a huge block of ice. So cool. We also found out that the staff had helped ready the hotel, even getting on hand and knee to buff the bronze wall detail! The caramel popcorn was a nice touch - with a subtle spicy aftertaste. The Living Room has a very Mad Men-esque feel with an update vintage look. We were given a tour of the grounds (ballroom, patio, and one hotel room) and I was really impressed. Every detail was thought out and addressed. The barn doors leading to the bathrooms are sleek and a very unique touch. The bedrooms are small but comfortable with beautiful art, wardrobes, and gorgeous city views. While outside, we saw the gigantic tree that has been turned into a large table (love the re-purposing!) and got a glimpse into the kitchen where the chef was making some spaghetti squash. Every single thing about The Dewberry is swoon worthy. The entire hotel is absolutely stunning with no detail missed. They even have their own branded candle that is burning throughout the entire hotel including on credenzas in the elevator lobbies of each floor. It's worth mentioning that the scent is incredible. My husband and I booked a weekend stay here for a little Charleston getaway. We stayed in a standard King room and it was perfect. The bathroom was very spacious and the bed was so comfy...not to mention the impeccable interior design (see photos). The gym is small but has has everything you need and there is also a small spa. We had drinks at both the lobby bar and Henrietta's (the Hotel's restaurant and they also had live music) and experienced great service and drinks at each. Our accommodations were perfect - we stayed in the Charleston flat, which was beautifully designed and just the perfect mix of vintage and modern fixtures with marble floors and countertops to gold lights and wooden tables. The room also had windows all around, which welcomed glimpses of the sunlight all throughout the day. As mentioned, hospitality was impeccable! When we needed things delivered to our room, the hotel staff arranged for someone to deliver within minutes. It was great! They can also arrange for a car service if you need to be picked up or dropped off from a location. We had a fantastic stay here over New Years. From the time we arrived to the time we checked out, we experienced impeccable service and were made to feel welcome (and they checked up on us a few times by phone to ensure that our needs were met). The hotel is in a historic old federal office building, so it decidedly looks utilitarian from the outside, but once inside the space is wonderfully adorned with wood and appointed with nice accents to make it feel cozy. The room was not large, but the king bed was comfy and the bathroom clean. There was a beautiful armoire with printed doors. No desk in our room, but there was a side table below the TV that housed a pull out fridge (no place to put things but you could avail yourself of beverages for a price). Our windows faced the park, but we got very little road noise (and we were on the 2nd floor). Likewise, noise from the elevators wasn't noticeable and we did get the benefit of the fantastic scents from the Spa. Speaking of Spa, we did partake and had a very pleasant experience. The first floor of the hotel has a bar (wonderfully mixed drinks) and a restaurant (Henrietta's). In terms of location - we found the hotel perfectly situated for us. One block away from King and right on Meeting - which takes you down to the Battery or the intersection of Meeting and Market where all the touristy street vendors are. read more

It was def. A pleasure staying at The Dewberry. Its pretty upscale for my casual laidback picks, but it was a phenomenal stay. The staff was exceptionally helpful; the concierge, valet, front desk, room sevice....you name it, they were great! Complimentary coffee in the a.m. was a nice perk since the mornings were a little crisp. We ordered some ice cream and sobert through room service. They were quick and the ice cream was delicous! The room was very welcoming and comfortable. Although the bed was waaaay too comfortable ; we didn't want to leave the room half the time because of how comfortable we were! Many naps were taken. The bathroom was decked out in marble with a seated shower. The complimentary bathroom products had the most delightful scent! Also, there is a mini fridge/drawer filled with tons of drinks and on top of that there are some snack selections. I would def. Recommend a stay here! read more

I do quite a bit of business travel now, and this remains a favorite hotel of ours. It was a short stop in Charleston, and it is possible to get a fair rate. If it is not already clear by its lavender limewash exterior and the lobby's gem-toned upholstery, every corner is a design-dream that manages to respect the history of the original landmark building but w. a bit of modernity to keep it fresh. Yet nothing sacrifices user-friendliness for design: the roomy linen-paneled floral armoire, the elongated windows to admire Charleston's steeples. A hook is by the door for easy retrieval of a coat, and a little brass side table holds a cocktail nearby. Cedar bath amenities and eye makeup wipes are at the ready, and a minibar - that opens like a drawer for easy consideration - is filled to the brim w. an enticing variety. They gifted us a Natura pinot for our anniversary, left comfortable slippers for us at turndown, had a coffee/tea bar downstairs each morning, and offered a complimentary house car (and bikes we did not have the time to use) for guests. Most every staff member we interacted w. was genuinely friendly, especially the concierge, desk, driver, and waitress at Citrus Club. My only regret was not springing for the in-house spa, as it was considerably out of budget for us but so special with its cypress walls and bucket-list treatments. We will return if possible. Recently stayed at The Dewberry and too be quite honest I am not sure how they can call themselves a 5 star hotel. I've stayed at many 5 star hotels across the country and throughout the world and this is arguably by far the worst one I've ever stayed. From the service to the food to pretty much everything was extremely disappointing. Each morning breakfast took at least an hour to get our food after waiting 20min for a staff member to even approach us. At the citrus club I sat at the bar and the bar tender took again over 20min to even acknowledge me sitting their to take my order. On top of that I ended up getting sick from one of the items there. The only thing decent was the spa treatments however the steam room somehow remained broken the entire weekend which was a disappointment. Housekeeping seemed non existent as I had to call several times to get someone to finally clean my room each day. During checkout after all this I was pretty much told tough luck best we can do is a 50 dollar credit. Wow, honestly I've never experienced this type of hospitality at any 5 or even 4 star hotel before... read more

Great customer service. The staff was very nice and very accommodating for a variety of requests. They even drove us to the local BBQ place. I thought their Turkish breakfast was fantastic. However, the 1 BR suit was really just a 2 bed room with a wall put up to make a very small dark living room. This made for a small bedroom as well. For $900+ a night, before we got upgraded to the suite, I'd expect a little more. The gym was very small and we tried to get up to the "amazing" roof deck 3 times but there was a wait, even for hotel guests. I might suggest to management to allow hotel guests, especially paying these rates, have priority over others walking in off the street. read more

The good - Stylish interior, well-appointed rooms, nice smelling toiletries, fun living room/lounge area, Henrietta's restaurant very nice. There's also a courtesy vehicle that will drop you off anywhere on the peninsula. The bad - Busy weekend, we had one type of room guaranteed that "wasn't" available, the millennials at the front desk didn't seem to be able to multitask, they had to escalate to a manager who miraculously was able to solve the problem The ugly - Sound insulation between rooms and in between rooms and halls is not very good, I was in a room near the elevator so lots of loud coming in and out all night long. The absolute worst - as a menaupausal female - is that they have the air-conditioning set to go no lower than 69°. So if you're going to be having hot flashes all night, or, if it's just a typical bloody hot day in Charleston, you are out of luck. The windows don't open. They'll bring a fan, but having what sounded like an aircraft propellor did not aid already disturbed sleep. read more

Such a beautiful hotel. I planned a bachelorette in Charleston and had planned a spa day for the bride and couple of us. The staff was amazing and we couldn't had a better time. Two of the girls had an appointment at 9AM and the rest were at 10AM. It worked out great because as the first half went as the rest of us were escorted to a relaxation room with snacks and coffee/tea/water. All the girls said their massage therapists were hands down amazing. We even had one recommend a brunch spot which we went to after and it was very chic and delicacies. Their in-house blend of tea is tasty too! I ended up buying a tin and the bride bought some of their face creams. read more

Love the feel of this place! I had multiple old fashioned's. The brick of ice was embellished with their signature D and a cherry accessory. Delicious and classy. The apps we had were fulfilling and tasty. We had the French fries, cheese platter, olives and deviled eggs. Deviled eggs by far were the best along with cheese platter.
