Cute place. It's decorated lovely and very clean. Easy to find street parking. But I can only give it three stars. The host (family member) was on his personal phone when we walked in. He didn't really seem to know what he was doing - maybe usually works in the kitchen ? Our waitress was very nice and made sure we got everything we needed but the food was lacking. We each had a cocktail and although both tasted great - they weren't very pretty (looked like dishwater) and on the smaller side. We got the fish spread as an appetizer and it wasn't what we expected - lots of cream cheese. The smoked mahi mahi in it tasted very good but typical spread has less filler and more fish. On recommendation, we had the shrimp and grits, and the red grouper. The shrimp and grits had a BBQ flavor to it that I enjoyed but the shrimp were small and not of the best quality. Although they served in a boat dish that made it hard to eat with enough grits to serve an army. The red grouper dish was weird. It's was suppose to have rock shrimp which it did not. The fish was over cooked (on the thin side the ends were super crispy) - they offered to remake it but my husband didn't think that would help. They served it over pasta and with a sauce that didn't seem to complement the fish. Luckily they comped the dish because it definitely wasn't worth the $38 they are charging. It's a cute place in a great location to buy fresh good quality seafood - so they should invest in good ingredients and have someone revise their menu and recipes! read more

I have now been to the Dewey for brunch and dinner. The menu is very thoughtfully created. With a lot of options and combinations. Also, the customer service is over the top amazing. We had dessert last night after dinner on the rooftop bar, and the sunset did not disappoint! We came for a brunch on a holiday weekend and there was no parking. I called the restaurant and they were able to find us a parking spot. I don't think I've ever gotten that great of service anywhere. It is our favorite place to dine in the St Pete Beach area. read more

We had drinks at the Berkeley Rooftop patio before our dinner reservation for the courtyard at The Dewey. Our server Shane ordered a Trinidad Sour for us to try and then followed up with a sample of their house-made chocolate mousse to go with it. The Wagyu Berger with truffle fries and Everything Spice Salmon were both delicious. Learning about cocktail mixology was an added bonus and a pleasant surprise (Thanks Shane). Needless to say, we have a new favorite haunt at Pass-a-grill. read more

One of my very favorite spots to sip champagne and watch the sunset is the fabulous rooftop deck at the Dewey. 360° panoramic views with a great bar menu including their amazing crispy brussels sprouts with almond slices and sliced fresh Parmesan. Perfection. Their fried chicken sandwich was a favorite around our house so hopefully it returns to the menu. read more

Very nice place, fairly new! Great food and wait staff. Lady bartender was awesome. Bar fully stocked, great wine selection. Hostess stand folks could use some hospitality lessons. Found them to be rude and short with folks, especially if you dare show up without reservations. Heard lady hostess put down another restaurant in town with a potential customer, the Hurricane. Several times I saw them turn people away because of no table, yet bar had plenty of seats. And why not send them upstairs to roof top bar? Perhaps have them come down later for dinner, if available. I hope Dewey has a long life in Pass-A-Grille! Great building, food and atmosphere. Most staff rock! We ate at The Dewey last night (Sunday the 21st of May) and sat at the bar downstairs. The bartender was fun, personable and just all around awesome. I did not catch her name but she really made our dinner special. She was a brunette with a fabulous white big smile. Then she told us about the bar upstairs so we decided to go up and check it out. We sat down and it took a while before anyone took our drink order. Finally a girl came over in a black shirt and striped pants. I complimented her on her pants. We told her we had not been spoken to by anyone yet and asked her if she could take our drink order and our oyster order. She said yes and did both. When we ordered the oysters from her we asked for our oysters to be served with the full setup. Cocktail sauce, lemons, crackers & horseradish sauce. She said of course the full setup coming your way. We sat there for almost an hour and no one even spoke to us again. Finally we got fed up and asked for our bill and that took forever also. I finally went to the counter to ask for our bill again. The lady kind of huffed and puffed like we were bothering her. (This is not the same sweet girl that helped us in the beginning in the striped pants it's an older different lady). She then came to our table and brought us over the oysters in a box without the setup we had requested. I just can't eat oysters plain I need the crackers and the normal way they are served. We asked again for the crackers and sauce and she just walked away not saying a word. Then she walked back to the register to start working on our bill and we followed her over with the box in hand. Again, we asked for the setup for the oysters and she ignored us again. We just left them on the counter because she was so horribly hateful to us. We then got into the elevator and there were several people in the elevator with to go boxes. They started to complain about how difficult is it to bring oysters to the table and that they were walking out and sick and tired of waiting for their food. They said then all the sudden someone brought them over to them in a box. If that woman is so miserable working at The Dewey then she should quit her job or the owner should fire her. She is not a good representation of their business and we will NEVER go back there again. read more

while i would be more inclined to give this quaint spot a 2.5, that option simply isn't feasible... Because my friend of 20yrs visiting from California had grown tired of the touristy dives she'd encountered along Gulf Blvd, I wanted her last night at the beach to be memorable and hoped The Dewey would be sophisticated enough to erase the memory of Sea Hags... From the outset I was mildly disappointed. Despite having made a reservation for the rooftop with the front desk an hour or two before, they had no record of it on the roof and made no attempt to clarify it with their colleagues downstairs. Instead of being offered a table, we had the choice of the bar or a lounge seat. (because having dinner & drinks while perpetually turning your head to the side is always enjoyable) Should I mention now that the said dinner was so disappointing my guest couldn't eat 2 of the three dishes? a blue crab & avocado salad should feature at least enough crab so it's remotely identifiable (and the avocado shouldn't be a frozen mash almost too cold to eat) I will note there WERE 4 crab legs acting as garnish. (i will also note they resembled Q-tips) And all the while, we were taken out of the moment of a stunning view & each other's company by an endless stream of intrusive yacht rock" (Toto, RUSH and other 70s / 80s Top 40) If this patio were in NYC, Barcelona or any other cosmopolitan locale they would've played something upbeat & atmospheric because people aren't there to "LISTEN" to anything other than their companions. Given the fact there's a dearth of sophisticated establishments along the Gulf, it's a shame i'll be hard pressed to revisit this one again. read more

Ive been wanting to try this restaurant and rooftop bar for some time. Unfortunately my timing with wanting to go out to a restaurant during the covid-19 outbreak I have been reduced to takeout only. Called them up to place an order and I had a great conversation with the server, Jennifer. She was warm and explained the menu items to me and also told me about the specials. We ended up getting a little bit of everything, the brussel sprouts, Dewey burger, fish and grits and ybor cesar salad. We rode our bikes down into Passagrille and picked up the food at the front door. From what I could see, the inside decor is beautiful. Modern beach which is much needed along our coastline. Grabbed our food and ate it on a bench overlooking the sunset. I would highly recommend the brussel sprouts, dewey burger and the cornmeal crusted mahi mahi over cheddar chorizo grits with a pickled onion topping. That was the special so hopefully they will make that again! This food paired with a lovely sunset I would absolutely return back to this restaurant wether up on their rooftop terrace or taking ot to go. read more

I love martinis, and I ordered a martini at the Dewey, it was the smallest little martini I have ever seen (served in the same style glass as the wine, half the fun is drinking it out of the martini glasses). The first sip tasted pretty watered down. After two martinis you should be feeling it, but there was nothing, it was incredibly disappointing. My friend got one after his wine and agreed they were bad. it cost $69 for three martinis and one small glass of house wine. very disappointing. We then walked across the street and after one martini we felt what you're supposed to feel when having martinis. The view is nice, but you can save this inflated pricing and bad drinks for the tourist, as a local I won't be back I hear the food is good, but they blew their opportunity for me to come back and try it. read more

We split three courses including our entrée of shrimp and grits (horrible-poor choice of meat and over cooked shrimp, dry sticky grits) for $22. When we got the bill we realized they had charged us 27.50 for the grits. Never asked them to split our meal in the kitchen and we were never told of a share fee. Don't get your hopes up. read more

I just had a phenomenal birthday celebration at the Dewey. We started on the rooftop for sunset drinks. The vibe was elegant yet relaxed with great views of both the gulf and the bay. Edward the bartender did a great job of keeping us hydrated, while Maryann , the owner, sent up some delicious fish spread to start our celebration. We moved downstairs for dinner and everyone really enjoyed their meals. I had the cornmeal crusted softshell crab with street corn. The crab was perfectly cooked and the street corn complemented it really well. Another standout was the beet salad - beautiful and very tasty. read more

I have been going to the Dewey for years. However my last visit was so sad :(. The crab was fishy, the wine was old that they served me, and the dining room was incredibly loud at 8pm. However the staff was very accommodating and acted with so much grace. They gave me a much better wine, moved us to the outside patio and asked if I wanted something else to eat. They also comped my friends meal who also had the crab (who thought it was inedible/too fishy). If I go again I will only go for sunset drinks on the roof and oysters. read more

First off, this place is such a cute restaurant. We stumbled across it while walking around the beach. I recommend sitting on their sidewalk patio, theres a small breeze flowing through. The menu is really healthy, we ordered the shrimp & snapper app which was served with fresh fried tortilla chips. Then for dinner I got the quinoa bowl which was really healthy and filling. I added shrimp to it as well. They were able to take requests like "low salt" as everything is made fresh to order. The only thing is that its a bit on the higher priced end. My quinoa bowl was around $16 + $8 for shrimp. However, the food is high quality - you can tell! Recommend for someone looking for a nice meal with a cute location. read more

This review is for the rooftop bar only. (We dined in the restaurant and I would give the restaurant 4 stars for cuisine, and 5 stars for the super cute and stylish interior! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.) However, we had a bad experience at the rooftop bar during an evening in early August. My mom and I asked for chocolate martinis. The bartender should've simply told us that he could not make them, instead of trying to create this drink out of random ingredients (he didn't have chocolate, Bailey's, cream, etc.). They looked and tasted terrible - they were definitely not chocolate martinis. Even worse, when the bartender brought them over to our table, he hastily set the martinis down and they both splashed out on the table leaving a big mess (which he absolutely saw). I thought for sure he would come back to wipe it up, but he never did. I had to then ask for napkins and wipe it up myself. My dad ordered an expensive scotch and clarified several times during the ordering process that he would like to have it neat. The bartender clearly wasn't listening and brought the scotch over to the table on the rocks. Rude, inexperienced, inattentive bartender - a total turnoff. This is a shame, because the view is stunning and the rooftop has so much potential. read more

We heard about The Dewey from a waiter at Mise en Place in Tampa. Apparently there's a business relationship between the two. Went there with our adult son & were very impressed with the quality decor & space. We had a reservation in the courtyard, which was lovely. Intimate, lovely gas sconces, an attractive fountain & two live Christmas trees. Our server, Dan, greeted us & wasted no time getting us drinks & apps. The Brussels sprouts with apples & shaved Parmesan were good & the fish spread was also. We ordered the wahoo & the redfish sandwich. They were both overdone. My husband & I immediately told our server that the wahoo was overdone. He took it away & we ordered our second choice, soft shell crabs. They were delivered quite fast & were really not good. The breading was heavy & they were over-fried No flavor. My son's redfish sandwich was also overdone & tasteless. The highlight of the meal was the pecan pie, made by Mike's Pies, an amazing pie company out of Tampa. It was fabulous. Dan apologized several times for the subpar meal. We were so disappointed. Such a beautiful place in darling Pass-A-Grill, but they need a new chef. Doubtful we'll be back until I read positive reviews on Yelp. read more

Unfortunately, the food was not good: The Greatfruit: This cocktail is light, refreshing, and delicious. The grapefruit peel added a nice hint of citrus to the drink. Tamarind Orange Chipotle Glaze Wings: This appetizer sounds promising. I was wondering how the flavors were going to be blended. My mother grew a Tamarind tree down in the keys. I've eaten raw tamarind and food flavored with tamarind. I loooooovvvvveeeeee canned chipotle chiles. Oranges...well, yum!! *sigh* The sauce did have some flavor. However, you have to actually concentrate hard to find hints of the 3 flavors. I'd prefer the flavors to be more noticeable. One should not have to stop conversing to find these 3 distinctive flavors. This dish has promise. It just needs a little bit of tweeking. Arbol Chimichurri Grilled Hanger Steak: A promising dish that was truly disappointing. I super-love chimichurri sauce. I always order extra chimichurri sauce when I eat at a South American restaurant. Chimichurri sauce is pesto-like, minus the pine nuts & cheese. Made with simple ingredients, but a fabulous condiment. Arbol pepper? Arbol chile peppers have a respectable Scoville Heat Index of 15,000 to 30,000. There should be some flavor in the dish if an arbol chile pepper was truly used. I'm game!! The steak was cooked correctly at medium rare. However, it was super unflavored. Absolutely bland. I dug around the plate looking a small serving of chimichurri and the arbol chile pepper. None found. There was no chimichurri sauce brushed on the steak. Definitely no heat; therefore, no arbol chile pepper. The cooking staff should go to any of the South American restaurants in Miami or on North Armenia Avenue to learn how to use arbol peppers and how make chimichurri sauce. It is scary to note that the fried plantain was the most flavorful component of this steak dish. :( Our waiter was a saint when he saw how truly disappointed I was with the Hanger Steak. Our waiter brought out some hot sauces, but they were weak. He took the dish off of our bill. I could not finish eating such a plain dish. This is the 1st steak dinner that I have never finished eating. My husband and I have had wonderful meals at Bern's, and Smith & Wollensky. My inner carnivore knows what good steaks are. They don't always have funky marinades or exotic dry rubs. But if the menu promises a wonderful time with chimichurri and arbol, the tastebuds will be very sad if they don't taste either one. This restaurant is not for folks who enjoy flavorful cuisines like South American, Indian, Asian, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Hungarian, etc.. You will be saddened when the food is not as flavored as hinted on the menu. There are folks who cannot eat flavorful food for either health reasons or having highly-sensitive palates. This restaurant is perfect for them, because of the tasteful ambience, fantastic service, artful plating, and safe food. read more

The Dewey is a great restaurant in the Berkeley Beach Club in Pass A Grille. It has a wonderful ambiance both inside and outside in their quaint courtyard. We were just there on vacation and had their amazing Saturday Brunch (including an amazing espresso martini), as well as Friday night dinner in the Courtyard...the food was delicious and the service from Sean was wonderful!! They also have an awesome rooftop bar...perfect for a sunset cocktail! They have a great looking bar inside the restaurant, altho we didn't get a chance to sit there for a drink, but it was quite popular! This restaurant is a must if you are in the PAG area! read more

Good food, good ambiance. However, I felt ripped off at the bar. I was charged $11 plus a $6 "upcharge" for getting Tito's. So $34 for 2 Martini's, and they were a bit short as well. My understanding is that the bar in a restaurant has the most profit, so sticking it to a customer here is really unacceptable. read more

We had reservations at The Dewey last Friday night and had high expectations for a nice upscale dinner experience. It started very well with Bob our server, he was attentive and engaging. We had charbroiled oysters and carpaccio for appetizers, very tasty and appropriate portion sizes. However, we waited over two hours for our main course to arrive. About an hour and a half into this uncomfortable wait the manager came to thank us for our patience, but I told her admittedly that our patience had run out whereupon her sunny attitude wasn't so pleasant. She promised that our entrees were next out and that she would comp dessert. A half hour later our entrees arrived after I had asked for the bill minus the mains. At this point she said she was comping the entrees and please stay and enjoy them. The food finally came out and sadly my wife's chicken was overdone and dry and my fish was warm at best and the vegetables were cold; they did bring out hot vegetables but by that time it was too late. We didn't eat the dishes and thankfully they did comp them. Frankly, they should have comped the entire meal. We had expected a nice evening dining experience but left unhappy. read more
