The Dhaba has been on our list to try for a while now and since we were in the area today we stopped for dinner. Lucky us, there was 1 table that didnt have a reserved sign on it so note ...make a reservation. The host was really friendly and gave some recommendations to try. We started with their chicken tikka samosas ...they came paired with chick peas in a tomato type sauce and they were tasty. This item was a new creation for them and wasnt on the menu yet but glad we tried it. For the main course we tried the chicken tikka masala and the kadahi jhinga (shrimp with vegetables in a tomato sauce) and garlic naan. We enjoyed these dishes and ordered them medium spicy. If you eat spicy on a regular basis I'd say you want to up the level. The chicken tikka masala was creamier than we prefer but still tasty. The shrimp was perfect. I had very bad experience twice at this restaurant. A year ago when we were here to dine in, the staff were very rude and kept us waiting for a long time to be seated. Couple of days back when we tried again as our friend wanted to try this, we got the same experience. The staff are not organized. They got confused and messed up with our seating arrangements. They delivered food after an hour of ordering. We are South Indians. We felt the food was bland with too much red food color and butter/oil. Depending on which direction you are coming from, you may have to pass the restaurant and do a U-turn (due to light rail tracks). We dined here on a Thursday evening. Their parking lot is a bit small (it appeared to accommodate about 8 cars in front, with parallel parking for maybe 5 more on a side driveway; not sure if there was another lot out back?). They appeared to be somewhat short-staffed, which is the case in a lot of places at this time. The server-duty was split between the host, who was also looking after take-out orders, and another guy who almost seemed like he was doing something more or different than his normal job (?). We eventually alerted them that we were ready to order, and things proceeded from there. The food, once it arrived, was uniformly good. We shared between 4 dishes, and the ones I tried were all tasty. I think all the dishes may have been vegetarian but perhaps one was chicken? I think I got vegetable korma, but I'm not certain. All the food was delicious, the Lamb korma was my favorite full of flavor and fork tender lamb meat. I got a spice level of 7 on both dishes and it was pretty hot so 7 and above is pretty spicy. The Chicken Tikka masala was also very rich and delicious with tender chicken. This is a hidden gem in Tempe. I haven't had much Indian food in the area, but I have no doubt that it's probably some of the best in the valley. There flavors are really good and have a lot of depth. My favorite things I've ordered: chicken tikka masala (favorite of them all), Chana palak, tandoori chicken and garlic naan. It is a little pricier, expect to spend at least $25-30 for a curry and a naan. Definitely worth a try! read more

The menu is extensive, and when I asked for suggestions, the server was polite and super helpful. I was there on the Thanksgiving day for dinner. This restaurant is located next to the Indian grocery market in Tempe, Arizona. I loved the smoky flavor in the saag, makke ki roti was well cooked to compliment the saag. The flavor of malai kofta was almost close to the one you get in Northern India, however, I felt that the salt in the dish could be toned down a bit. Tandori chicken was too color outside and burned taste, inside was not tasty.the biryani was like pulao but good taste though with carrot, big potato , beans. This was the best Indian food here in Phoenix so far, and I don't say that lightly about Indian restaurants as I'm Indian myself. The place mainly specializes in Punjabi food, and my Punjabi husband felt like he was at home. The service was very friendly, the place is cozy, and you can see awards littered everywhere on the walls so they're doing something right. The food was very flavorful and you get a good portion for the price. The pani puri was the only dish that was a little lacking in flavor, but everything else we ordered was on point. Do not miss out on getting the samosa chaat, or else you're doing yourself a disservice. They also serve beer and wine. The wine is even suggested as pairings with certain dishes which I hadn't seen before in Indian restaurants. We ordered beer. My husband has the worst luck and usually anything he orders is sold out at most places we go. So of course, that happened again and his first 3 picks were all sold out or not being offered. He did end up ordering a certain beer, but what was amazing is that the restaurant offered us both free lassi's just because they didn't have the other beer. I love this place but I asked for extra green sauce and yet again, they did not put it in with my food. I drove across town. The samosa's are dry without sauce and I love the green one. The Rahon Dal Tarka was good though. The paneer kulcha was good but better with green sauce. Will not be going out of my way to go here as it's a little expensive but hadn't had it in like a year since I moved. Bummer. read more

I love Indian food and I've eaten at a dozen or more restaurants in the Valley... let me tell you, once I tried the Dhaba, I've never gone anywhere else! There's no other restaurant in Phoenix that beats the quality of the food here! Everything on the menu is a masterpiece and I've never walked away hungry or unsatisfied. You start your meal with a complementary appetizer of papadums (large flat circular chips), served with an assortment of chutneys. My favorite dishes: Lahori Malai Kofta (vegetarian meatballs), Paneer Tikka Masala (cheese cubes in a tomato sauce), and Vegetable Korma (veggies in a creamy, nutty sauce). The best lamb dish I've tried is Kadahi Gosht, lamb in a spicy sauce with sauteed veggies. Your meal comes with a huge serving of rice and don't forget to order garlic naan! The Dhaba is a small, intimate restaurant. Great for double dates or going out with your family if they're adventurous enough to try curry! I highly recommend making a reservation online. I've never had problems making same-day reservations, but I have been forced to wait 20 minutes as a walk in. (The wait is worth it!) The restaurant is in a small plaza with limited parking, but there's extra parking in the back. Be sure to check out the small Indian grocery and marketplace next door! This place is 10/10. We went on very busy Friday night and they were able to sit our party of 4 pretty quickly. The service was quick and the staff were very nice. Our table got the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and Maharaja Patiala Tandoori Thali. Every bite was delicious and the portions were great. The silverware, plates and cups were also very cool. We both ordered the Kashmiri Chicken Tikka Masala, level 2(myself) and level 8 (husband). Both were very bland and pricey for the lack of spice flavor and small portions they provide. We both ordered Dhaba Special Lassis' and they also were very bland and lacked a lot of the rich mango flavor- thankfully, we asked if they could remake the lassi's and they did. We also ordered a side of garlic naan and it was actually nicely baked. The service was wonderful! The young lady was very sweet and welcoming.
