I had the tamale breakfast for the first time and it was very good. The ranchero sauce was not to strong and the eggs were cooked exactly how I requested them, over medium. The tamales were what I expected from a tamale considering I've only had them a few times. This place was so worth the wait. They don't bother with a sign in sheet...they trust their customers to figure out who is next. There is maybe a dozen booths and some stools at the counter. Sit at the counter and watch the cooks perform breakfast miracles. It was awe inspiring. The service was awesome, the eggarito was tasty. I preferred the hash browns over the home fries, but just because the eggarito was already spicy, and the extra spice on the home fries was overkill. Me and my roommate tried this place a few months ago and I thought it was good. Decent price for the amount of food you get. The pancakes are a single serving but they are large and fill up the whole plate and are thick. It has home-cooked taste and if you're too lazy to cook breakfast for yourself, its probably a good place to go. However, its very simple and I feel like we could make the same things at home for a fraction of the price and my roommate agreed. We may just not be very big breakfast people though. read more

Okay first off, I love the hole in the wall feel, it's small but really cozy and nice? The servers are mega friendly and personally if I'm eating breakfast alone it's pretty relaxing to just sit and watch the food being prepared (or just simply people watch out onto main street) Oddly enough there are quite a few breakfast/brunch places around there (Scratch and Syrup for example) and as a person who deeply values the art of breakfast food I've tried most of them, predictably the diner is cheaper and better suited to my tastes (that is food, in excess, and feels as though it was made by someone who loved you dearly and wanted you to enjoy their food ~family~ if you prefer) On a final note, home fries and sriracha. don't question it. just do it, love yourself. read more

Solid diner faire with awesome waitresses! Had the Meat Loaf special which was an individual not sliced portion meat loaf. The Meat Loaf was solid but far from spectacular. Green Beans and Mashed potatoes were top notch! Wife had the cheeseburger it was very good, price was right! Need to see Guy Fieri's Triple D episode to get his take. I have wanted to visit this place for a while. I heard about it on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives. Two weeks ago I went to University of Oklahoma with my son to check on a schedule for this semester. My daughter encouraged us to have breakfast at The Diner. I am so glad she suggested this place. My son had the infamous Eggarito and I had the Tamale Breakfast. The food was delicious! Decided to visit after seeing The Diner on Amanda Freytag's new show. Place looks great after the redo, but the new laminate wall panels are already delaminating in places :( @FoodNetwork, you should come back and fix it. The service is good, the coffee good, and food is fresh and served piping hot. Everything was well seasoned and properly prepared. This place is a local legend. The food is good and the wait staff, competent. Expect a long line and though the staff is courteous, don't expect the same from the customers. This is a place people patronize to be seen. You have never seen so many wanna bes with a level of entitlement that will make one hurl. The long line usually progresses nicely but when someone is impatient, those entitled assholes will ignore those who have been waiting and head for the first booth without waiting their turn. I stopped in here when I was trying to kill a little time while waiting for my Amtrak train and the station was closed and needed a warm place to get out of the cold. The service was friendly so that is a good thing. As far as the food goes the serving size was good and filling. My eggs over easy were made perfectly. That was pretty much the highlight of the breakfast plate I had. The other items were OK, but certainly nothing to rave about. I was really looking forward to the biscuits and gravy that came with my breakfast but the gravy was almost bland in flavor. If I was in the area again I would eat there again, but it is not someplace I'd take somebody else to eat at. Took my wife here for a quick lunch date and was very impressed. This place is TINY but packed to the brim with people. It reminds me of an old school diner mixed with hipster landing place. The food menu was very breakfast focused which I was not prepared for but it tasted great. The staff were surprisingly attentive to our needs even though the place was crammed to the brim with people. We rarely had a glass go empty or a dirty plate left on the table for long. Everything is cooked from scratch (you can pretty much watch them cook it while you wait) so bear in mind that it may take you longer than normal to get a bite here but it's worth it. The food quality was very high and I was very thrilled with the taste. You would expect a greasy flavor given the environment in which it is cooked but that was not the case at all. The food was fresh, flavorful, unique and tasty. I got to have a sandwich while my son had breakfast and my wife had a brunch item. This place is somewhat hard to spot if you are not familiar with downtown Norman, OK but if you can find a parking spot and get into The Diner, you will not be let down! read more

I have been coming to The Diner since the early 90's when visiting my friends. It was always the place to go for a good breakfast after a long night. Their biscuits and gravy have always been a staple. Now I live in Norman and my kiddos go there with me and love it too. I really like The Skinny, on the updated menu. From the old school bar stools and coffee cups to the open kitchen grille in front of you it has that Diner feel all the way! The waitresses were warm and friendly and the food was awesome. I saw a post earlier that referred this place as a greasy spoon. Although it has this kind of look and feel it was anything but greasy!!! The food was fresh and colorful but not greasy at all. My omelette was stuffed full of bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms and the Ranchero sauce was greatness! The home made biscuits were soft, warm and wonderful. I absolutely loved this place! First off I have to say the food is good but not 14.50 for a mushroom and swiss burger with fries and a drink good. This place is my favorite place in the world for a mushroom and swiss burger. I was very amazed that they are charging extra for fries and 2.24 for a sweet tea. The waitress said they recently raised their prices, I was blown away by how much. I can't fully vouch for this place because all I've had so far are the pancakes, but oh my god. They were heavenly. I got one blueberry and one chocolate chip pancake and I liked the chocolate chip wayyyy better. They were huge, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. My friend got eggs, bacon, and biscuits and gravy and I'm not sure if there was anything special about it but next time, if I can convince myself to not get pancakes again (which I know I won't be able to do), I am definitely getting an omelette or one of their specialty items because everybody's orders around us looked amazing. Good down-home diner food. The prices were a little steep for the portions, I felt ($6 for a rather small bowl of chili), but the food itself was great. Decided to stop here on our way to Wichita. Picked it because of the reviews! We were excited to eat here since Guy did! It was kind of difficult trying to find parking. When we walked in, every seat was filled (good indicator of good food)! We didn't have to wait too long and got the next available booth. The restauarant is very small! We asked our waitress what her favorite was and she said the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich, which is what my mom got and she was very pleased. Overall, it was a good dining experience!
