It adds so much charm and beauty to downtown Charleston - especially at night when it's lit up - and it is impossible not to give it five stars. It's as gorgeous on the inside as the outside but I've only seen it inside once, whereas I was walking past it or driving past the outside about a hundred times throughout my life, which has caused it to become one of my favourite buildings in the city. And they've done a wonderful job restoring and maintaining it and they deserve absolute maximum credit for that.

My son is an Eagle Scout and I was an Adult Scout Leader for almost 20 years. So I am used to performing for children. There was a small girl, about 3 years old, sitting next to me in her mother's lap. Every time I would wave my flag and cheer she would stare at me. So I started talking to her in my best "grand father voice." Got her to smile and start waving her hand in the air when everyone else was cheering. There were multiple other VIP groups who paid for the VIP that also did not get their meet and greet . We all waited until doors opened and we were told to go find our seats . Complete disaster for seating and complete disappointment not getting the meet and greet we paid for , 4 tickets for VIP are not cheat . The photos at this location were shot on cellphones and they still charge you thru the roof absurd pricing for them . The one picture was $36 (I believe )for the cell phone photo . I decided to visit this theater specifically to experience the "World's Tallest IMAX" screen. Since…read moreI was seeing Project Hail Mary, I figured it would be a perfect movie to immerse myself in and this theater did not disappoint. My main tip, however, would be this: DO NOT PURCHASE SEATS IN ROW F, which is the first section in the back portion of the theater. What the online ticketing wont tell you is that these are partially obstructed view seats due to the "clear" railings. Although the railings are indeed clear plastic, they are about 5 ft tall and therefore directly blocking your view while sitting down. Instead, I would recommend purchasing seats either towards the front in rows G or H or all the way towards the back of the theater. It will be a much more enjoyable experience, especially if seeing a 2.5 hr or more movie like we did.

The Charleston Music Hall itself is a beautiful, historic venue--intimate, well-maintained, and known for hosting concerts, comedy shows, and special events. The seating is comfortable, sightlines are good, and acoustics are solid, which definitely worked in favor of the vocal performances. The singers were clearly talented and did a great job vocally--everyone sounded wonderful, and there's no denying the performers can sing. However, we personally felt that the show didn't quite feel like a full "production." It leaned heavily on straightforward singing, with limited storytelling, choreography, or theatrical elements to tie everything together. This may come down to expectations and personal preference. Growing up around Broadway shows in NYC, we're used to more dynamic, story-driven performances with larger production value, and this didn't quite meet that standard for us. While others may enjoy it for the music and holiday spirit--especially in a cozy venue like the Charleston Music Hall--we would probably not attend again, particularly considering the ticket price.
