We were near Monrovia around lunch time and started searching for a place to eat and found The Diplomat located in Downtown Monrovia. When we arrived around 12:00pm there were only a few tables occupied. We were quickly seated in a room which had a few good-sized tables and a wine display at the corner. We were quickly handed a menu and after some discussion we have decided to order the following dishes to share: - Vegetable Soup, a mix of fresh zucchini carrots, celery, potatoes and leek cooked in lemon-tomato broth - Great, this vegetable soup was delicious and I might have one bowl just to myself instead of sharing it. - Baba-Ghanouj (Moutabal), grilled smoked eggplant mixed w/sesame paste - Great, the dipping paste was great. - Greek Salad, Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, spring mix, onions, Kalamata olives & feta cheese, olive oil & lemon juice dressing - Good, salad was fresh and refreshing. - Beef Shawarma Platter, Sliced fillet mignon seasoned w/7 spices, pan cooked with grilled onions & served w/ tahini sauce, side of rice & hummus - Good, it fillet mignon was seasoned nicely. - Chicken Kebab Platter, Brochette of chicken breast, marinated and grilled, served with rice pilaf and grilled vegetable - Good, Chicken kebab was good but not as juice but the rice pilaf was good. - New Zealand Lamb Chops, Seasoned and marinated for 24 hours, grilled and served with rice pilaf and grilled vegetables - Good, Lamb chops were cooked perfectly but salt was a little over killed. I heard about this place through a friend, and am very glad I finally had the chance to give it a try. - We ordered the Beef Shawarma Fries ($17) to share and it was humongous. Honestly, the food here is very good. We come all the time and it is super consistent taste. I'm only knocking office to her because it takes ages to get served here. I think a lot of that is because they generally have one server when they're open for lunch. Food and drinks can be a bit pricey but like I said the taste is consistently good. read more

I think the D is my favorite Mediterranean food in all of California. That greek salad and the hummus is so special, I'm constantly trying to replicate the tastes of this delicious establishment. Organized an office holiday lunch here. It was a group of about 12 people. Since it was around noon, I didn't think we'd need a reservation, but I made one anyway. Good thing I did! It was busy. When we got there, we had a nice large table, and the waitress was quick to take our orders and to check up on us. The food was great. I originally chose the spot because of the different options they had. The portions were pretty big and everyone seemed to love what they got. I would definitely go back. I came here for drinks and dinner - great restaurant nestled in the heart of downtown Monrovia. Great concept for a restaurant - mediterranean food with great drinks to top it off. We opted to sit at the bar - and service was very attentive. I ordered the Irish Mule and my girlfriend, a Margarita with Strawberries and Tajin on the rim. They did not skimp on the alcohol. As for the food: 1. Baba Ghanoush - you get a large plate of this eggplant dip. For myself, their baba ghanoush did not impress. It was overpowered by the taste of sesame and tahini. I could not really taste the eggplant at all, nor the other spices. Other places will put garlic and/or lemon into their baba ghanoush, and that was missing. Overall, still a good dip, but certainly not the best baba ghanoush I've ever had. 2. Kabab Combo Platter for 2 - a huge plate of rice with grilled tomatoes and pepper, chicken, beef and lule kebabs. Delicious! It was fresh and hot, the rice was perfectly seasoned. The chicken kebab was juicy and tender, and the lule kebab was a perfect combination of ground beef with a nice balance of spices. The filet mignon kebab was also delicious. Overall, a nice addition to the restaurant scene in Monrovia. Will definitely come back for the vibe to try out their other menu items. read more

I asked the server if their salmon is wild caught or farm-raised? She had to check with the kitchen and came back to report that it's farm-raised. Since eating wild caught salmon is important to me, I ordered the Falafel Platter instead. I suggest that at least some of its customers care about wild caught vs. farm raised salmon, that the restaurant procure and serve wild caught salmon in the future. My wife liked her Greek Chicken Salad, but my falafel was far too salty. Everything else on the platter was so bland, I couldn't even taste it. I'm giving a 4-star rating because my wife liked her food and because our server, Annabella, provided top-notch and very friendly service. Cute restaurant in Monrovia. I came on a weekend for late lunch and I had no wait. Parking is plentiful on the street or parking lots. The staff are attentive and check in on tables frequently. I tried the combo for two and I highly recommend it. You get a little bit of each meat and it was more than enough food for two. My only complaint is I wish it came with a little hummus to try since it had 4 pieces of pita bread. The meats are delicious especially the beef which is very tender. The chicken is moist. Waiters/waitresses passed us however no one even checked on us or even offered us utensils. We did get menus though, just no one ever stopped by to ask us our order. (I know it was approx 10 mins because i started timing any interaction a server would give, which was none.) For people asking why didn't we flag anyone down, this is the funny part, we tried. The servers looked very focused on delivering the food to everyone outside, to stop by our table, I'm assuming. Whenever one came by I tried to stop them but as soon as they were out and dropped the food they ran back in. Very strange. Needless to say we ended up leaving. Tried this restaurant for the first time this past Saturday. Arrived at 5:00 pm. Put our name in and sat at the bar and ordered a drink. Within 5 minutes the hostess called our name. We then got seated and waited, and waited and waited for a server to acknowledge us. There were 2 servers attending other tables but never said anything to us. We decided to wait and see how long it took but after 15 minutes we could wait no longer and waved down a server that was in charge of a large party near by. She asked us if we came from the bar and we said yes. Apparently nobody was assigned to serve us. A server arrived pretty quickly after and seemed like we were an after thought. She never said hello, sorry or gave her name. We ordered and a food runner brought our food. We didn't see our server again until we asked for a to go box. She brought that, our check and some kind of pastry for the wait. We will go back and give it another try. The food was delicious but the help needs some attention. There were 4 falafels. It came with humus, salad, and pickle. The reason I did not give 5 star is because of the services. Both the host and my server gave me an attitude when I was trying to ask them questions as I have never dined here before. An example would be: the host offered me a table right next to the front door, and I asked if I can sit one table further down (just wanted to have less traffic). The host said "if she is done cleaning the table! Sure!" Another example would be when I ordered the falafel plate. My server told me that it is an appetizer. I told her that I saw it as an entree. She said, "I don't know what you want to order." I thought I already told her that I want to order a falafel plate, and I wonder what was not cleared. We ordered the garlic fries to start - the garlic was raw, expected more of a roasted taste, it was sharp & off putting. For our lunch we ordered the chicken kabob wrap & the beef shawarma. The chicken wrap was very small/thin - I opened it up to see that there were 3 halves of chicken pieces and was so surprised to see the portion. My husband asked that there be no onions in his, it came out with onions and not the fries that it was supposed to.
