Ordered dinner for pick up on Mother's Day. We ordered 3 chicken kabob platters, a kids chicken kabob platter, a Greek salad and an arugula salad. The salads were huge. You can share with someone to have as a side with your meal. The hummus and pita bread they provided with the meal was so good! The food was delicious and customer service was great. I will be back.

The Diplomat was a great find. The drinks were excellent, and the filet nestled in the hummus was outstanding tender, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The outside curbside seating made the evening even better. Golden hour settled over the street, the sunset reflecting off everything just right. Across the table, that warm light caught her face for a moment... and honestly, it might have been the highlight of the night. Great food, great drinks, and the kind of atmosphere that turns a simple dinner into a memory.

Came here after my girlfriend has been raving about this Mediterranean restaurant for months and honestly, the fact that she's been coming here for years with her family already said a lot. We finally made it a girls outing after a Pilates class, and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant itself is simple, a decent size, and very minimalistic. The food, though, was way better than I anticipated. My only regret? Not listening to my friend and ordering what she got. She had the beef kabob, and I ordered the gyro. Don't get me wrong, the gyro was delicious, but her meat was absolutely mouthwatering. I also ordered a tequila mule... mmm, so tasty. The salad and hummus were super fresh, and the service was great, very friendly and genuinely helpful when it came to deciding what to order. That always makes such a difference. Safe to say this spot has officially been added to my list of favorite restaurants in Monrovia. Will definitely be back and next time, I'm ordering the beef kabob.

The Diplomat never disappoints! I wanted to celebrate my birthday with a place I knew would definitely have good food and Im beyond happy with my choice. The hummus is always delicious along with the rice. Service is always friendly and I love that there is an option for indoor and outdoor seating available. Will definitely be back :)

This spot was pretty good. I ordered a mixed plate and a chicken kebab plate. The star of the show was the chicken and I also really enjoyed the pickled cabbage. The hummus fine, not as smooth of a texture as I prefer but still tasty. I did not dine in but the interior is really beautiful and has a very nice bar. Would love to dine in at some point.

I came here for a birthday celebration. Decor was nice however tables seemed a bit plain. Like they needed some linens or flowers. Not sure! Anyway, food was tasty. I was missing some garlic sauce or something . I like eating my chicken with garlic but I guess they don't have that here. Rice was ok and portions were ok too. Service was ok, she could have been better. The restaurant was basically empty. So having to ask for napkins 3 times wasn't ok. I do think it's worth coming back though. lamb chops were so tasty!

Every plate was just spectacular. Service was top notch. My group requested off the menu drinks specalized drinks and they made it so delicious. They did it with a smile and did a fantastic job. Great pricing for the quality of food. Definitely recommend

It was my first time coming to this place. My old co workers often go here so I've definitely heard of the place. The food is pretty good. We went during lunch and my friend and I both got the wrap. She got a side of fries and I got a side of baba ganoush. Service was okay except for the fact that she was hesitant in giving us more to go containers and almost lost my friend's credit card. Come at lunch as it isn't that busy (I heard this place is poppin at night though). We sat next to the cabinets of alcohol and whisky (I heard they have a really good whiskey selection for all the whiskey lovers out there).

We love going to The Diplomat and it's easily one of our favorite restaurants to come back to. The atmosphere is dimly lit and relaxed, with a casual feel that still has a touch of elegance. Even when it's busy, it feels lively rather than chaotic, and you can tell it's a spot that locals love! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. When we visited again on Valentine's Day they had live music, which was a beautiful touch to our evening. The food is incredible and we honestly haven't had a dish here that we didn't like. The portions are also so generous so you definitely get what you pay for! It's a place we happily recommend to all our friends and family.

Meh. This is how I feel about the food. I got the salmon. I was kind of disappointed that they didn't have salmon kebabs, but nonetheless.... another reviewer said the salmon was "well done". I use this phrase when I mean something is done well - like, it's good - like, "Well done on your class presentation!" In this case, I mean...cooked well done salmon. Not delicious, juicy, tender, medium rare salmon like salmon should be cooked.....but well done, hard-ish, dry-ish, having all of the soul and joy sucked out of it salmon. For $22. *sobs dramatically* The rice that it sat on was pretty delicious though. And our friends had gotten the 2 person combo to share - which comes with chicken, beef, and lule kebabs. They seemed to like it very much. We also got the hummus (good), the moroccan eggplant (very good), a lentil and chard soup (we were sort of wondering where the chard was in the soup), and the spinach boreg (this was like a fried wonton with spinach inside - I was sort of hoping for a denser packet here - there was a lot of air). Oh, and the pitas were the flat boring ones that you can get at the grocery market. I think we have been spoiled by pitas the likes of Zaatar's in Fresno, Ammatoli in Long Beach, and Mazal in LA, where they are fluffy and freshly made. They do give you pita refills if you need. Service was good, and we enjoyed time with our friends. Just wish the actual food was a bit better, especially at the prices these were at. $14 for a bowl of soup? $12 for a small serving of hummus? *Sigh* Bathrooms are gendered and multi-stalled....and of course, the women's bathroom is the one that has the diaper changing station. *sigh* Street and lot parking aplenty in Monrovia.

I went to The Diplomat in Monrovia because people kept telling me to. Simple as that. When enough folks say the same thing, you eventually listen. I wasn't planning on writing a review, but the food ended up being good enough that I felt like I should. Joey, the guy running the place, is cool and easygoing. You can tell he's been around restaurants his whole life. I was looking at the menu thinking I'd get a lule kabob (I like kabobs, never had a bad one anywhere), but Joey walked over, took the menu out of my hands and said, "You're getting the lamb chops." So I went with it. Good call. The lamb chops were really good -- not dry, not tough, just juicy and full of flavor. I don't pretend to be a food expert, but you know when something is done right, and these were. I had them with a side of eggplant and rice and honestly didn't need anything else. The place itself is kind of interesting. It's not one of those spots with flags and pictures all over the walls trying to look "Mediterranean." It feels more like a modern bar and restaurant, but with food that's actually worth eating. I liked that. The drink menu is serious. Tons of bourbon and gin if you're into that. I wasn't drinking because of Dry January, but I noticed Coors Light was only five bucks, which is cheap these days. Most places charge almost double. I didn't try everything, but from what I saw coming out of the kitchen, there's a lot more than just kabobs. Steaks, chicken, other stuff that looked good. It's not a one-item kind of place. Is it the best restaurant in Monrovia? I don't know. I haven't been everywhere. But I do know I left full, happy, and thinking about when I'd come back.

We were there last Friday at 7:30PM with a group of friends. We called ahead to reserve a table for 9 but it wasn't really crowded when we got there. It got busier around 8 - 9PM. We enjoyed the cocktails and they weren't stingy on the alcohol. Appetizers were really tasty but the entrees could be better. We ordered lule kebob and beef shawarma. The lule was good but shawarma was a bit dry. Our friends were satisfied with the beef kebob. Parking wasn't tough even with a farmer's market on the street. There were few structures around and street parking was easy to find. read more

Our first time visiting The Diplomat, and we'll definitely be back! The service was great, our server Sarkis was very friendly and helpful, we very much enjoyed talking with you and getting to know you. The owner Joey stopped over and chatted, also very nice to talk with. The food was delicious, we tried the Fried Cauliflower appetizer, it was great. Our lunch was also delicious, I had the Lamb Chops, and my partner had the Chicken Kebab Sandwich. Very close to home and we'll certainly be back to visit soon. Thanks for a great lunch! read more

This is my second time coming to eat and again we were greeted and seated promptly. The beef kabobs were tender and hummus is a must- both were delicious. The drinks crafted by the wonderful bartender were amazing. We had to ordered (again- just like the first visit) a second round. This is my new go to place! read more

Just excellent all the way. Great drinks especially the tequila aged in a bourbon barrel. Try it on a cold day and you will be warm all week. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the hummus was the best we have ever had. Hannah is just great. Every place should have a sweet Hannah behind the bar! We will def be back. read more

Good prices and great food. Server Ali was very attentive and friendly. We had cocktails, Grape Leaves, Garlic Fries, Garlic Dip/Cucumbers, Arugula Chicken Salad, Lule Platter and Shawarma Platter, with Baklava bites and Armenian Coffee. All very good. If you vape - there is even a Huqqa(hookah) area for you to burn some. read more

Hold on. Wait for it. Then after the napkins why do we have to ask for silverware? What???? No one comes by to check on you after that. read more

Delicious chicken kabobs and the best part is they offer spinach instead of rice! The chicken is so juicy and the zesty spinach brings tears of joy to my taste buds. Great place to have a nice lunch outside, as they offer patio seating. read more

I just tried this place the other day with a friend. The first thing i noticed is that the interior is so much nicer than when it was occupied by Bull Taco :-) We had a couple of cocktails and split the appetizer sampler. The Burnt Sugar Old Fashioned is delicious! We both enjoyed the appetizer sampler - i'm normally not a fan of tabouleh, but this was the best i've ever had... refreshingly lemony. And the hummus, babaganouj, and stuffed grape leaves were all perfectly prepared. Staff was very friendly. I cannot wait to go back read more

Ordered the platter for two and two cocktails. Wife had the whiskey sour and I had the burnt old fashioned whiskey. Drinks were what you expect at a 5 star hotel. Excellent. Kabob was good, but the rice was amazing. Excellent service with an owner onsite. I fully recommend. read more

I visited this place twice already within 2 weeks. super nice atmosphere and great service and consistent flavor. drinks are awesome and very flavorful. i get the old fashioned and it is out of this world. can't say enough about the excellent food that keeps you wanting to visit the place over and over again. recommend everything on the menu. outstanding job guys please keep it up. read more

Ambiance was good, drinks superb, meal excellent. Overall the place was great except for the service. Our waitress forgot my husbands beer twice and it took her way too long to make my Desert Rose cocktail. There were only 7 other patrons in the restaurant and 3 servers to accommodate us, which is pretty fair. Not to mention, the owner was there to help. It was 3pm so it was not crowded at all. I know I would have definitely ordered another drink had it not been for the delay. read more

Stopped in on a Friday night while at the street fair looking for a drink and dinner with the family. Once we walked in the smells of Ammonia was a put off for sure. After see the flys at the bar I assume that explained the odor. The food was good not great for the price we paid lulu was the best thing we tried recommend the rest so so. The service is awful took 20 minutes to get drinks and another 40 for food to come out never really got checked on by our server. Not sure if I will come back maybe give them a while to work out the kinks. read more

My boyfriend and I just tried the diplomat for the first time and it was soooo good! We did a pick up order, everyone working was friendly and our order was perfect. 10 stars for the cheese boreg, so yummy. The vegetable soup, beef hummus and chicken kabob plate were all delicious. No complaints here! Can't wait to eat here again! Update: we have eaten here many times or have gotten take out. We still love the food, service, atmosphere. Highly recommend! My wife and I have been here several times for drinks but tonight was the first time we stayed for dinner. The drinks have always been great (bartender is way cool and very good at his craft), but tonight the food was the star of the show. The kabobs are great and my wife said it was the best falafel she's had. Service is always wonderful here. We will be regulars for sure. read more

Our party of nine has so many food quirks. One vegetarian, one wants no onions, no carbs. One wants lamb, another was a young teen who has a variety of food restrictions, another allergic to pepper and tomato. The servers and even the owner paid special attention, and got everything right. Long tables fit the whole group. Another group even bigger were easily accommodated too. We have always ordered take out and loved the food. We thought it would be cool to dine in, but when we ordered the same item we always do for takeout, it was completely subpar to the takeout!!!The Chicken kabob pieces were smaller, no hummus, no garlic sauce and no pickled side. We asked the server about getting hummus at least and were told that only comes with take out. I guess we will only take out in the future read more

Absolutely amazing restaurant to go to. My family and I went to dinner at The Diplomat for my mom's birthday and it was such a great experience. The owners are sweethearts and the music is GOOD. The vibes are incredible(especially when a band is there). And you can't forget the unique food that they serve. It was extremely tasty and I kept wanting more. Hummus dip with beef, chicken kabob, lamb chops and I could keep going with everything I think you should try. Overall experience was perfect for my moms bday. I will be back! read more

If this review was based solely on food and service I would give five stars. The food is extremely fresh and delicious and properly served at the right temperature. We went to this restaurant for the first Time to celebrate our parents anniversary on a Saturday night, we were seated at our reservation time at 7 PM. We completed our "Mezza" that consisted of multiple appetizers all of which were extremely delicious. There we were ready for our dinner to be served as the main entrée of chicken and beef and rice, when all of a sudden right at 8 o'clock the live band starts. Which is great if it's Mediterranean music at this type of restaurant at a volume where we could talk to each other but to our surprise the opening song was "Touch" by ZZ Top . Loud would be an understatement. I had to shout at the person directly across the table. This was an incredible damper for the evening. We left the restaurant by 845. Don't give me wrong I love live music however we should've been informed when we made the reservation and I would highly recommend starting at 9 PM or later so that diners can enjoy their meal. read more

Love the Diplomat! This has become one of my fiancé's and my go-to date spots. The cocktails are great - we love the Hokey Pokey and the Scofflaw. Their appetizer menu has so many options that we try a new plate every time! As for entree, I'm sold on the Beef Greek salad. The beef is tender and delicious, and completes the salad so well. As far as service goes, we've had nothing but positive experiences. One of my favorite places in Monrovia! read more

Went here with my wife and in-laws a few months back. We were very excited to try it based off the reviews and a news segment that they were featured on. We ended up having an all around bad experience. The servers were rude and inattentive. They bought out what we thought was complimentary hummus at the start of our dinner and we started digging in. They then came and said that was meant for a different table after we had already eaten half of it. They rudely asked us if we wanted to keep it and we said yes thinking that we would not be charged. Of course we ended up seeing it on our bill. The food was decent. I would give it a 3 star rating, but would suggest to go up the street to Chicken King Express for some better Mediterranean food (and some better service). read more

Worst customer service. The owner's husband didn't want to sit me when I was trying to watch the band. He charged my grandma and her two guests $10 each for just sitting there, when they ordered fries and drinks. There was never a mention of a cover charge until he stuck the bill on them. read more

The Diplomat is our go to restaurant for amazing food and drinks. We bring family and friends whenever they are in town. I've tried almost everything the menu and can truly say it has been fantastic. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. We try to come almost weekly and always have amazing service. The live music on Saturdays is always great, people are up dancing and having a great time. I highly recommend The Diplomat. read more

I heard so much about The Diplomat that my buddy always bragged about when they are in our area. So I decided to invited the family to check out the place as we are very fond of mediterranean food. We went to The Diplomat at Monrovia instead, found out later that the one in Glendora (near us) is called The Diplomat Jr that operates without a bar. Well, let's get to the nitty gritty of the place... THE AMBIANCE....feels right for a nice dinner with conversation without getting a lot of noise with the presence of a bar. THE FOOD.....all 4 of us thought they were AMAZING! And in good portions as well! We were so used to going to Raffi's in Glendale. But after tasting these appetizing meals, we unanimously thought that we won't be driving the distance to go there for a while. THE SERVICE....Greattttt!! We were always approached by the server and the owner Lucy numerous times to check if everything is alright. We were spoiled! And not to mention that everyone were so cheerful! (I definitely would come back one day to check out the smiles behind the masks). OH, DID I TELL YOU that they even served us a nice piece of cake to celebrate our 41st Wedding Anniversary, and the server Carmen gladly belted out a song on request that dropped us to the floor with her amazing voice? LASTLY (well, they won't see the last of our presence, that's for sure)...while we were half an hour out of the place, I was alerted by a phone call that I left my wallet at the men's room and they went out looking in all directions where we might be parking to return the wallet.
