They really need to consider starting over with this place. There were 6 people working even though the weather was bad and there was nobody in canalside. The menu is not updates online and prices are 30% more than advertised online. They screwed up a basic plain sahlens hotdog by cooking it to the point of being the diameter of my pinky. It was shriveled burnt salty nothing. Bun was stale and tasted like nothing. Condiments is a table of tiny pouches of ketchup mustard vinegar and sweet relish so you'll need to open about 8 or 9 tiny packets. If I ordered fries I would of been there all day trying to get ketchup out. They were also playing weird jazz porn music, which just doesn't go with the waterfront vibe. Decided to try out the new menu and was disappointed with their burger, which claims to use a mix of sirloin + ground beef, but honestly felt like they slapped a frozen patty on a grill to cook it up. I asked for it medium rare (having thought that it was going to be a nice sirloin-ground mix), but it was cooked inconsistently throughout and was mostly cooked thorough well done. It didn't have much flavor and the bread which it was served on was nothing special either. They lose another point for not having any tap water (or rather they didn't have any cups). The fried pickles I also ordered were pretty good and I give them props for adding some creative vegetarian options to their menu, but I haven't tried too many of them. The seating area is really nice at Canalside over by Clinton's DIsh now; now if only they could elevate the food + ingredients, this would be an ideal place to grab a sandwich by the water, but as of now...it just remains one of those "meh...I'm here and I'm too lazy to go anywhere else options." So here's the dish on The Dish, I mean it's nothing mind blowing but it's satisfying for what it offers. Canalside has long been criticized for not having many offers in terms of food for patrons. This little food stand fills a need and seems sufficient. My boo got a burger and I got the grilled chicken quesadilla. We split an order of fries. It was all okay. Nothing mind blowing but satisfying for a quick lunch while on the waterfront. They have ice cream and other snack items that are Buffalo-centric, which is cool. I'm a fan of the local flare. It's definitely a bit expensive for what it is, but definitely expected at this venue. There are plenty of tables available to sit and eat at. Most with umbrellas and in the shade which is awesome. 4th of July was my first visit. That being said there was a long line of folks waiting for some quick grub or ice cream. They had 2 lines, one cash the other credit moving quickly to handle the crowd. Placed our order with no issues. Pulled pork sammie and fries for him. Cheeseburger, fries and a twist ice cream cone for me. I didn't want to wait in line twice so I told the girl behind the counter that life is too short not to eat my dessert first! My cone came right out, I was about halfway finished before our order was called. We had no problem finding seating. I started right in on my fries because you know I had the ice cream to manage before I could sink my teeth into the burger. I had to go back and forth between the two before I started into my cheeseburger. I was pleasantly surprised the fries were fresh and hot my cheeseburger although I didn't get a chance to special order it was not so well done that it was a hockey puck but nicely medium well. All condiments we're off to the side so you can put on what you wanted. The burger itself came with lettuce, tomato and onion. I I found the meal quite satisfying for what it was although I must say if there were food trucks available I might have opted to eat from one of those but as luck would have it I didn't see any that night or there weren't any out that's why the dish got our business. My companion seemed to enjoy his pulled pork and french fries. We got a few beers from the separate Beer Garden area and sit down to enjoy a wonderful evening after getting off a nice Sail on the spirit of Buffalo and before the fireworks started. read more

I spent some time down at Canalside yesterday afternoon and decided to give Clinton's Dish a try. Clinton's Dish is a food shack located at the end of wharf's boardwalk. There are plenty of outdoor picnic tables close by where you a sit and enjoy your food. I was very surprised by the variety of their menu as I expected only burgers, dogs, ice cream and cold drinks. In addition to these items they also offer breakfast sandwiches, a chicken sandwich, veggie burger, fish sandwich, fries, a variety of wraps and salads. I was pleased to see so many healthy options. I opted for a veggie burger after learning that they use the Gardenburger brand which I am fond of. It was $5.25 plus tax and included all the typical topping options (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, ketchup, mayo, mustard, etc.). It was a satisfying snack to tide me over to my next meal. The lettuce and tomato were very fresh. I'm glad that I gave it a try and now that I know that they have such a varied menu, I will be back for sure. Despite its attractive location, The Dish is nothing if not disappointing. The menu is limited and overpriced. The day I showed up it had two kinds of sausage, a cheeseburger and Dino chicken nuggets along with prepackaged Hummus and Guacamole. The afore mention chicken nuggets were $5... for five nuggets. My daughter who is almost 3 and 30 pound dripping wet, ate 7, and I had to mortgage my house. The guacamole or hummus Sabra Singles were $6 each for something you can get at your local grocery store for $1.86. The only bright spot was the ice cream they served. It was pretty good and generously proportioned for a reasonable price. But I'm sure that will change, as the Scrooge McDuck who runs this place figures out how to gouge visitors to Canalside on that too. Honestly, if whoever runs this place thinks that getting your product at Wegmans or Sam's Club then charging an unconscionable price for them is a plan for lasting success, then I've got news for them. My sandwich barely had any contents and i asked for hot sauce and they didn't have a bottle of franks. So I'm not exactly how they made my buffalo chix philly without franks. The sandwich was dry and mostly bun. The ordering process caused a lot of confusion for most of the line. First and last time for the Dish for me i'm afraid. My wife and I had " Date Night " down at Canalside, mainly to listen to the BPO play and also watch the showing of Ghostbusters as something fun to do. We got there expecting food trucks ( As the website had stated for the event ) but got there to find a "La Nova" pizza stand and some BBQ stand, but had quite a long line. I looked over and noticed "The Dish" sitting there and figured we'd just grab a quick burger or hot dog and call it dinner. We were greeted by a surly young lady who when we ordered our food told us " sorry we're not grilling tonight and it's only fried foods" which basically limited us to about 5 items from an already limited menu. We decided to order the Fries and Pizza Logs with the Hummus and Chips....all for the low low price of $29 !!! I wish i'd known the the Hummus was just a prepackaged "Sabra to go" for about $1 at Tops, but instead I got gouged $5, but thats OK, our food would arrive soon as it's only fries and pizza logs. Then we waited, and waited and waited. Eventually 20 minutes later we got our food, 20 MINUTES !!!! And it really wasn't even that good, 3 Pizza Logs and an order of Fries, all for 20 minutes. Seemed quite chaotic and the girls working behind there didn't seem to care at all, also if you're not grilling maybe put a sign out there so people know before trying to order something, thank god we didn't have our kids with us as getting kids to pick something from a menu is hard enough, but limiting them to such a small selection of items and then making people wait 20 minutes ( or longer as I saw some people ) for stuff that could take 5 minutes to make elsewhere is unforgivable. Canalside should be ashamed of themselves allowing a vendor such as this to be located here and really should allow other people to compete, that way they may do everyone a favor and drive this mess out of the area. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite at The Dish at Canalside while viewing the rubber ducky. There were lots of people in line and we were promised our food in about ten minutes. Promise kept and the food was great, although the sweet potato fries were not very hot. But they were still crispy and very tasty, as was the Mediterranean chicken wrap. Visited during a Thursday night concert. Canalside was SO crowded! I opted to get some food at Clinton's Dish because the line was short, they accept cash (Most food trucks/tents during Canalside concerts want pre-purchased tickets), and I've heard good things! I got a classic twist with rainbow sprinkles but I did see they offer a variety of soft serve custard and hard ice cream. My friend purchased sweet potato fries - complete with honey & butter - SO good! Will have to go back and try more food. We ordered Italian sausage, salen's hot dogs, hand cut fries, sweet potato fries. The food was very good and grilled to order! The soft serve ice cream was creamy and delicious. Plenty of tables and chairs to sit on. Lots of colorful adirondack chairs. An additional great activity was the games. Out in the lawn they had gina jenga, connect 4, corn hole, frisbee.... All you had to do was give the lady your license and you could pick as many toys as you wanted to play with. When u returned them she gave u your license back. You could also rent kayaks. I had seen that Clinton's Dish had expanded its menu beyond ice cream so I thought it was worth a try. There were also a few food trucks at Canalside that evening. We checked out the menu at Clinton's Dish, walked over to the food trucks to check out their offerings and decided on Clinton's. Two of our party of 4 wanted burgers but they were out so they settled for hot dogs. My husband ordered the chicken philly and I ordered the roast beast. When our order came, one of our orders of fries was incorrect (regular not sweet potato) and my sandwich came with the tomato relish that I had requested to be left off. When I got my replacement sandwich it was so incredibly salty that it was inedible. I had everyone taste a little piece of it so they would 't think I was overreacting. It was the worst thing I have ever been served. My best advice here is stick to the ice cream. read more
