City Grille & Raw Bar is easily one of my top 3 spots in Jacksonville. I've been here several times and it's ALWAYS a pleasant experience. The food, the service, the romantic atmosphere they never miss. First off, Faith is MY GIRL She's amazing and always takes such good care of us. This visit we did the caviar service and oysters from Washington and YUMMM. So fresh! I also really loved that they sell Veuve Clicquot by the glass instead of only by the bottle you honestly rarely see that and I thought it was such a nice touch. For dinner, I had the Chilean sea bass with risotto and OMG... I LOVE risotto and this dish was everything. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, comforting, just sooo good. For dessert we had the banana foster with an espresso martini and it was the perfect ending to dinner. The evening began perfect. The hostess was pleasant and our two servers pleasant and attentive. We started with cocktails, salads and then to our main course. The purple Murray was refreshing- gin, st Germaine & lemon juice garnished with mint and lemon rind. All salads were fresh & crunchy from the Caesar with a crisp Parmesan wafer , The beet & kale with goat cheese & mandarins to the classic wedge. We should and stopped there. All our main entrees were loaded with salt. 1)- NY strip with shrimp and an order of sautéed spinach... the steak cooked perfect and tasty. The shrimp were grilled and salty as for the spinach it was bathed in salt. I had to return it but the second was less salty but still over salted. 2)The crab cakes were salty. 3)The blackened fish special over risotto was loaded with salt. The entire party of 4 felt our dinner entrees were over salted. Unfortunately we don't think we would return. This was a difficult review to write. read more

His comment, "the street tacos are very underrated". Absolutely. I got the Argentinian red shrimp tacos. Wonderful. The dirty martini was just as impressive. For appetizers, we ordered the Argentine shrimp, which had the perfect hint of heat, and the octopus, which was absolutely delicious. Both are a must try. For our main course, we enjoyed the special of the day, seabass. It was cooked to perfection and served with flavorful vegetables and creamy polenta. Every bite felt thoughtfully prepared. Decided to have dinner here to try the Spanish Octopus. We were sad to find they didn't have it but that didn't stop us from exploring the delicious menu selection. The Peruvian ceviche did not disappoint and was a perfect, light appetizer; the fish so fresh and tangy and paired perfectly with the crispy plantain chips. Our mains were even more stunning with beautifully seared sea bass and flavorful veggie medley and the lamb was so flavorful and tender with tender, crispy gnocchi! If you save room you have to get the limoncello dessert for a bright and zesty finish. It was quite loud in that section but I think it's just the acoustics of that particular space plus some ladies enjoying a lot of brunch cocktails . It didn't seem loud in the other areas. Service was friendly and sufficiently attentive. The food was nicely presented, hot and delicious. We opted for the fresh catch sandwich and short rib melt (we split them both). Before we were seated to our table they told us to wait in the chill area where they had couch seating little tables so your party can relax or have a quaint conversation. When we were seated we tried the oysters for appetizer and I had the jumbo lump crab cake and hubby at the New Zealand rack of lamb. City Grille and Raw Bar offered a special night out for my boyfriend and I's first visit. We just walked but I saw signs for valet and believe there is a parking lot if you drive. Walking in, we were greeted with an upscale atmosphere and welcoming service (the only thing we both noticed was the bag of candy laying out on the host stand which did not match the vibe of the establishment haha). When we were walked to our table, I loved passing all of the little alcoves with 5-6 tables each. It felt private without being secluded. A note on the menu! We checked the menu online ahead of time and noticed that a few things had changed on the actual restaurant menu (3 U-10 scallops changed to 4 U-15 scallops, a fish dish changed completely, etc.) so keep an eye out on that if you like to look ahead of time! Since it was our anniversary, we were offered sparkling wine to begin the meal which was very kind! I ordered the First Coast Punch ($14) which was sweet and just what I wanted. My boyfriend had the Southside Sour ($14) which was a bit unique and tart, very interesting cocktail. We ordered the Argentinian Red Shrimp appetizer ($15) and it was outstanding. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and was bursting with flavor. That sauce.....to die for! It was my boyfriend's favorite dish of the night and I'm still dreaming of it. For mains, we tried the Cape Cod Diver Scallops ($38) and the Full New Zealand Rack of Lamb ($46). The scallop dish was tasty (maybe a little bit lacking in seasoning), but the lamb dish was a standout! Perfectly tender and a delicious crust on the meat, and the gnocchi were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I loved it! Service was attentive without being overbearing, the music was the perfect volume, the decor was upscale, and the seating was comfortable. Wanted to try City Grille out because I always see it bustling with business when I'm out running in San Marco. I wasn't able to park directly in front of the building but there is a parking lot a very short walk away. I came during a slow period so I had the bar pretty much to myself, and my wife. I ordered a 1941 Mai Thai and later an El Diablo. Both drinks were very tasty and poured properly. Hard to say which was better. As for food, I ordered the Ahi tuna tartare, escargot, and a chicken club wrap with truffle fries. The raw bar chef was amazing. The time and attention to detail he put into my tartare was second to none, easily rivaling the best tartare around. The presentation and flavor was impeccable. I'd come back just for the raw bar. Moving right along, I had escargot next. The dish was weary appetizing. It was served in a dish that held each escargot individually, they sat in an olive oil sort of mixture topped with cheese, and served with mini ciabatta crostini. This dish was really tasty. I found myself dipping the crostini in the oil mixture after the escargot was done. The chicken wrap was pretty good too. It was hearty and tasted really good. Nothing to over the top, but all in all a great wrap. Perfect for an early dinner or late lunch. The wrap was accompanied by some Parmesan truffle fries. Almost needless to say, I destroyed them. The jumbo lump crab cake appetizer was a perfect starter. You get an abundance of crabmeat. I was very pleasantly surprised that the dijonaise was the perfect choice of sauce. It added to the flavor and wasn't as bold or overpowering like many remoulade sauces. For entrees we had local black grouper and chicken saltimbocca. Both exceeded expectations. The cardamon scented carrot puree with the grouper was so unique and absolutely incredible. The chicken saltimbocca was a very generous portion and together with the mashed potatoes and asparagus made for an ideal main course. The flavored tea is perfect and different from other restaurants in the area. We decided to split a dessert. Our server said the pistachio cheesecake would be a great choice and it definitely was. The flavor and texture were divine and the explanation point on a 5 dining experience. Wow - the best restaurant we have been to in Jax! We ordered for a table of 4: raw bar ( (oysters of mixed origin, 4 lobster tails, 4 Alaskan king crab boats), beef carpaccio, croquettes, 2 Chilean sea bass, Cesar salad with Argentinian red shrimp, and short ribs. Tried their brunch on a Sunday - eggcellent! My husband had Bloody Mary"'s which he really liked. All kinds of veggies. I had a champagne to start and a cote du Rhône after. Started with Cajun butter oysters -oysters pretty small, but very tasty. Also tried the one of each flight of deviled eggs - favorite was the crab I think. Others were fine but I refer day filling s bit firmer was kind of loose and toward lemony side on some. For entrees had a Rockefeller Benedict - really good. Lots of delicious creamed spinach and artichoke, nice hollandaise and eggs well cooked, with 3 fried oysters alongside. Second was the chicken ceasar wrap and potato leek soup. Soup was wonderful, great depth of flavor. I was too full to try wrap but my husband said it was good. Plenty of parking and not that busy. Food took a bit to come out considering how not busy they were. Lots of other items on brunch menu we want to try -definite return. Also have happy hour on all days except SA from 3pm. In the back is the dining room which was very busy for dinner time. Even the bar was busy for happy hour. I was glad to get us a seat. Service was very attentive and they even brought us an extra table after we ordered so many apps. These were possibly the best oysters I've had in Jax. Wow they were so good and almost creamy. My friend ordered beef short rib sandwich. So so rich but incredibly delicious. Every single dish we ordered was a 10 out of 10 (even the salad). It literally doesn't get any better than this. This is one of my most favorite places in Jacksonville to eat. It never disappoints. The dish of the meal is the Ibericco Pork Secreto for sure. It was delicious! It was well balanced with the Baked Oysters and Escargo as well. I've had the lamb here and it was yummy, but the pork easily tops it for me personally. I'll have to keep trying new things. If I had to pick between the Escargo and the baked oysters, I'd recommend the Escargo. The bread and warm pesto put it on top. Our server was super sweet as well. The service was fantastic and the food blew us away. The star of the show was my seafood pasta. Worth every penny. The dish had tons of lobster, shrimp, and 1 huge scallop. The scallop was a little salty but other than that, it was a 5/5 dish. My husband's ribeye was so tender and flavorful. Next time, we would skip the mash potatoes. Had a reservation for a party of 5 for Mother's Day. We arrived early and headed to the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. Everyone enjoyed their drinks (old fashioned came with a gentleman's cube, the white wines were nicely chilled, martini had blue-cheese stuffed olives, and the manhattan came with ice on the side) and the bartender was very attentive. We were seated at our reservation time in the back, which was nice because it was more private with just three tables. We started with the charcuterie board and chose cheddar, gouda, and goat cheese with added marcona almonds. This was a well-paired board that was reasonable to share amongst 5 people. While we waited awhile for our entrees to come out, our water glasses were promptly refilled and additional drink orders taken. For the entrees, I ordered the Beef Short Rib, 2 guests ordered the Fruitti Di Mare Pasta, 1 ordered the chicken saltimbocca, and 1 had the Iberico Pork Secreto with a side of whipped potatoes. The short rib was nice and tender on a bed of whipped potatoes with cooked carrots, shallot, and a couple types of mushrooms. The portion size was more than enough for 2 meals and the short rib itself was fork-tender. The pastas came out loaded with seafood (lobster, shrimp, mussels, etc.) and were greatly enjoyed. The pork and chicken dishes were also nicely plated and flavorful. Overall, no one had a complaint regarding their entree. For dessert, we ordered the lemoncello mousse cake and chocolate pistachio cheesecake. These were both very decadent and rich, perfect to share amongst the table. The waiter did mention that they had run out of crème brûlée, which is understandable given the holiday. All in all, this place is definitely worth a reservation for a holiday, date night, etc., and we're excited to go back! read more

Aggressively interrupted us & poured wine by reaching over us to the person on outside, instead of walking around to pour. Another time, we received our apps extremely late, as in 25 minutes after ordering but nearby tables were on track. No mention by staff. Staff is getting away with being a bit lazy, yes, but just kind of mean, in general. That must come from the top. read more
