We were out exploring the Spectrum and were drawn in by oysters. From the moment you walk, in the staff greets you and is very friendly and attentive. The restaurant might be a little tight, but there is still breathing room. The menu itself has a good selection of items, the stars of course being the various oysters themselves. For someone who is totally clueless about oysters, Shawn took the time to explain the differences and educate us, ensuring that we know what we want to order in future. This of course is followed up with what options are available at the moment on the menu. I found the fish and chips to be nice and flaky, and my wife found the cioppino to be rich and flavorful. The Hot Cheetos Mac and Cheese had a good kick, but not as much of a kick as the Jambalaya. When the waiter doesn't offer you an option for mild, just hot and hotter (just kidding - he said medium or hot), you know you're in for a party on your taste buds. Oysters - amazing. perfect amount, but watch out for little bits of shells - how you know they're fresh shucked. Lobster pasta was a little overwhelming though....kinda hard to eat. Solid spot for oysters! The server was very nice and explained all the oysters they had available. The oysters were very fresh and didn't have that weird sand-iness that some oysters have. The inside is very bright and decorated with neon lights and oyster decor, so perfect for a casual lunch or dinner with friends. This spot had been on our list for a while and we finally got to try it out while in the area during happy hour. This gave us the chance to try a few things. The restaurant is bright and airy with both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and helpful, explaining their menu and options to us. We ordered a half dozen of the happy hour oysters to go with clam chowder and their version of fish and chips. Let me tell you, it's probably one of the best fish n' chips I've ever had. The batter is super light and crunchy. And the catfish they use was also very light and tasty. I'd go back just for that dish. I've been wanting to try this place since they opened and today was the day. Located in the Irvine Spectrum across from Javier's. There is some outdoor seating but mostly open air indoor seating. Service is very friendly and attentive. Our server mentioned the entrees are fairly big portions and depending on your appetite level can be shared. This time around we opted to order from the small bites menu and the portion sizes were plenty! The cheesy shrimp and grits was wonderfully delicious ! The grits had bits of andouille sausage and lots of cheesy goodness and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. My husband's grilled cheese and panroast was good too. The pan roast has a kick to it so depending on your spice/heat tolerance you may or may not like it. I'm not sure if you can specify the heat level. One of the new eateries at Irvine Spectrum. For parking, this is closest to the movie theater / 24 Hour Fitness / Wood Ranch area. Next to Shake Shack & Silverlake Ramen. Dinner for 2 on a Saturday night, we were seated right away. Outdoor / patio area has heaters. I love how they decorated the place. For food, we ordered the sprouts (with raw onions & feta cheese), the truffle cajun fries, pan roast with rice (chicken, sausage, & shrimp), & a few Fanny Bay & Kumamoto oysters. For dessert, the bread pudding (actually enjoyed this the most). I think in general, we were missing the cajun flavor in all the dishes. Sprouts were meh. The fries tasted like parmesan fries, no truffle or cajun. The pan roast was heavy on the cream but not the flavor (reminded me of vodka pasta sauce), sausage had no kick to it. We were almost done with our meal & the oysters were not on the table yet so we asked them to cancel it. Also wanted to note that the food was at best warm, it wasn't served hot. But 5 stars for their Sangria! The drinks were good. Really friendly staff but halfway through our meal, they forgot about us? And the restaurant was not busy at all (hence I was able to take this dining room photo with no one in it). No water refills or checking up on how the food was. Had to find someone for our check, ended up just walking to the counter and paying there. We're glad we came especially since there aren't any more panroast places in the area. This was my first time at this location so I knew the food was already going to be good. My husband and I ordered the buffalo wings and the pan roast house specialty with pasta (medium spice). Food: - Soft Shell Crab ($16): I enjoyed the sauce the soft shell crab came with. Nothing too special about this but still tasty. - House Specialty Pan Roast ($30): Delicious! I've never had pan roast so I don't have anything to compare to but I enjoyed this dish. The house special came with shredded blue crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, and sausage. It had a nice kick to it and paired well with the rice. - Lobster roll ($31): We added truffle fries (+$2) and you need to get truffle fries! The fries were crispy and had the right amount of truffle. As for the lobster roll, we were so caught up talking that we forgot to eat the lobster roll up until the end. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time, so it was disappointing that it didn't quite live up to expectations. We knew going in that it was primarily an oyster bar and visited after happy hour, but we were pleasantly surprised by how flavorful and well-prepared the soul food dishes were. After letting our server know we needed a few more minutes, it took over 20 minutes before we were able to place our order. While the staff was polite and the ambiance was great, it seemed like the restaurant may have been understaffed, as there appeared to be some gaps in communication. We got lucky with getting seated right away on a Friday evening around 6-7pm as everyone after us that came in were told they had to wait 45 minutes to an hour to get seated. However, we we were seated indoors near the door when the sun was shining directly in our face, but we sucked it up knowing the sun was going to eventually move. I am still thinking about how insanely delicious brunch at The Dive Oyster Bar in Irvine was. Everything I ordered hit the mark and I would gladly come back just to have the same meal all over again. The Maple Bourbon French Toast was rich, perfectly sweet, and absolutely decadent. The Pork Belly Benedict was tender, flavorful, and practically melted in my mouth. The oysters were also a standout and easily some of the best I have ever had. They were sweet, juicy, and exactly how I like them, and the fact that they are only $2 each during happy hour on weekdays from 3 pm to 6 pm makes them even better. Brunch is served on weekdays from 11 am to 3 pm and on weekends from 10 am to 3 pm. If you are in the mood to make it extra fun, they also offer bottomless mimosas. Parking is a breeze since the restaurant is located inside Irvine Spectrum, which has plenty of lots and structures. It can be hard to find parking during peak shopping hours though. Between the quality of the food, the unbeatable oyster deal, and the relaxed atmosphere, The Dive Oyster Bar is easily one of my new favorite brunch spots in Orange County. But funny enough, we only ordered the oysters off the happy hour menu. Most of the food is pretty basic or a lean version of the entree menu. For example, the happy hour grits is a smaller portion and just cheese; whereas the shrimp and grits on the menu was absolutely scrumptious. Bigger portion, came with 4-5 shrimps and a good layer of cheese. Their happy hour oysters are $2 each and a lot better than King Fish. My husband and I ordered a half dozen but could've probably ate 12 total if not more. Service was fast. The 2 of us ordered: -Traditional Pan Roast with House Specialty (Shredded Blue Crab, Shrimp, Clams, Mussels, Sausage) - $30. Good but very bell peppery forward and a little flat on the flavor. I liked the cream but it looked better than it tasted. -Cheesy Shrimp and Grits ($13) - my husband lived in Atlanta for 4 years and said this was very comparable! Shrimps were super fresh, I'm still thinking about them! -6 dozen oysters HH price ($12) -HH Beer on Tap ($7) Would come back to try the Fish and Chips, mac and cheese, lobster pasta. They were out of lobster unfortunately but the market price of the lobster pasta is usually about $50 (ugh). Between all of us, we weee able to try a variety of things from the Cioppino, fish and chips, calamari, shrimp salad, etc. We enjoyed everything. Can't beat the $2 oysters, the clam chowder was cozy and creamy, and we couldn't resist the Hot Cheetos Truffle Mac & Cheese (wild, cheesy, and sooo good). Finally a nice place to get a delicious Cajun Pan Roast! Ever since Kettlebar and Ritter's Steam Kettle closed down, I've been missing that kind of dish. This one is almost as good, and I enjoyed it. For those who don't know, it's basically a seafood stew in a tomato cream sauce, served with rice or noodles. The medium spice level is average; I'll definitely try the hot spice level next time. My wife got the Plain Pan Roast, then added shredded crab. But you can't even detect the crab so next time she'll just keep it plain to save a few bucks. I got the House Pan Roast that came with shredded crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, and sausage. Again I couldn't detect the crab. The shrimp is shell on which is annoying but tasty. I was surprised how much I liked the mussels. The clams were fine. The sausage was thin sliced and didn't wow. I wish there were chunks of crab and chunks of sausage. Maybe in the future they can offer different types of crab at different price points. We were glad to see they had 2 kinds of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I also enjoyed the Ogopogo Mango Wheat beer. Unfortunately they don't take reservations. They don't even have an online waiting list like via Yelp. You can put your name on a list in person, then they'll text you when your table is ready. This makes things difficult if you have tickets to a show or movie and don't want to be late. What's odd is that they had several empty tables and an empty bar counter. Cost around $80 tax and tip included as of Oct 2024. Grits was great, just note the shrimp tails are still on them and there are no knives provided. Crawfish was a huge serving and came with lemon and sauce to dip. Mac was good, but tasted truffle more than anything else. Pan roast made us nostalgic. Loved it and the serving size. The Dive Oyster Bar is located within the Irvine Spectrum, two doors down from Regal Cinemas. The restaurant is smaller than I had originally imagined--which is to say, during peak demand, there can be a wait for a table. While the name "The Dive Oyster Bar" doesn't explicitly say it, after reviewing the menu, this is definitely a Cajun / Creole restaurant. On this visit, we ordered: the "house" gumbo ($28.50); the jambalaya ($28.00); steamed mussels ($19.50); bacon wrapped shrimp ($15.00); and two beers ($18.00). With tax ($8.45), our ticket was $117.45 before gratuity. When we ordered, the waiter let us know that we could choose how mild or hot (spicy) we wanted our gumbo and jambalaya to be. We ordered "mild" and found it spicy enough, without interfering with our ability to taste other flavors in the dish. Also, the "house" gumbo is about $2.50 more than the standard gumbo listed on the menu. The house gumbo has a wider variety of proteins than the standard version. All in all, the food here is very good. More importantly, the recipes here have their own flavor profile which sets it apart from other restaurants serving similar dishes. read more

A nice new addition to the Irvine Spectrum Center. This sea food spot has a little bit of Louisiana and Maine fusion where you can find some Lobster Rolls and some Cajun style food like Shrimp and Grits. If you're a seafood lover you'll enjoy this place. Unfortunately at the time I came here I couldn't have any raw seafood since I was battling a little illness but I did get to try their Chowder Bread Bowl, Shrimp and Grits and their Pan Roast. The chowder bread bowl was delicious and the bread was nice and fresh. I was enjoying using the bread as a dip and eating what I could of it. Now the Shrimp and Grits might have been my favorite item of them all as the shrimp was plump and full of flavor and it was so good along with their delicious grits. The Pan Roast was good too but out of them all it would be ranked third. Next time I will be trying the Lobster Roll and some other items I didn't get to try this time around. The bright and clean atmosphere made this a nice place to enjoy a beer and some fresh seafood while at Spectrum. The pan roast with shrimp was tasty and came in a decent portion, but I found it to be a bit heavy handed on the cream. The fish and chips on the other hand, were perfect. The fish was delicate and flaky and the light, crispy batter made for a textural feast. Just a very good piece of fish. I ordered the kids mac & cheese for my kids to share and was pleased that the portion was large, but it also came with an ungodly amount of butter. If they could offer some type of fish and rice instead of chicken tenders and chicken alfredo on the kids menu, I'd consider bringing my kids back here. But as for now, this place works better for a quick date spot. So although I wasn't blown away by everything we ordered, there's enough quality here that makes me want to come back. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!' We visited The Dive at the Irvine Spectrum last night as we had seen they offer $1 oysters during happy hour. I have a picture of the sign on their patio advertising the $1 special. My GF and I ordered 12 oysters first, 4 of each of the three types of oysters they were serving, plus a few other items. We made it through all 12 and liked one type and ordered 6 more, all orders were made during Happy Hour. We finished dinner and when the check was delivered I saw that only one type of oyster was $1, the other 2 types were $3.50 each. So, our check was approximately $45 higher than expected. I ask the manager on duty and that's when he told me that only one type was $1. He also said the server should have told us, but they didn't and he admitted that he just told them they should do that in the future. But that didn't help us. I showed him the sign that didn't say anything about only one type was $1. He agreed, but didn't do anything. My point to everyone, beware of this chain of seafood restaurants, especially the one at Irvine Spectrum. They are scammers, their advertise is misleading and a lie about their products, and they don't take responsibility for their staff's mistakes or their bad advertisement. They have lost me and my GF as customers. If you go, get clarification on the prices for any happy hour item you select. read more

This is my 4th time coming with both my bf and my family. Probably my go to restaurant if I run out of things to eat around Irvine. My favorite item is the Pan Roast with a side of habanero. A new favorite restaurant of mine at the Spectrum. Very similar vibes to the ramen place next door with a cool mural. One of the waiters told me that both places were under the same management. This place can get really crowded. Especially on a Friday night. The tables are also really close together. I sat at one of the tables in the middle of the room and felt like I could stretch out my arm and touch the person at the table next to me. I won't take off a star, though, because I know the restaurant is trying to make the best out of their limited space. My friend and I shared the Rousta pasta. It is definitely shareable. We didn't even finish! I will say the non alcoholic drink menu was essentially non-existent unless you like soda or tea. But not a total deal breaker. It was very busy when we went. It took us about 30 min without reservations to be seated. But it's fine since we went shopping during that time. It was loud in the restaurant, though. I could barely hear my friend sitting in front of me, and she couldn't hear me unless I raised my voice a bit. I'm pretty sure the neighboring table could hear me, though, cause the tables were so close together. Overall staff was very nice and it seemed like they worked as a very cohesive unit. I love hot Cheetos so I had to get this and I was surprised with how much how cheetos dust it came with! I very much enjoyed it and can't wait to come back to get it again! Shrimp Pan Roast: my bf got this and I was able try it. The medium spice level had a good kick to it, though it wasn't too bad. The shrimp was cooked well and was very delicious. Also a huge plate and was very filling. The only downside was that it was a tad bit too acidic but it really didn't take away from the overall flavor. A nice option to have at the Spectrum near the movie theater if you're not into the old staples (Wood Ranch, PF Changs, etc.) We didn't have reservations so we waited about 35 minutes for a 5 people. They stuck us at a 4-top with a chair on the end so it could have been more comfortable. We were most excited for the pan roasts since we're big fans of the OG in Vegas and Ritters in CM. Four of us ended up getting the pan roast (3 house specialty and 1 chicken/sausage) in varying degrees of spiciness. I went with the Dive chowder. Pan roast - Their sauce? soup? is good but flavor profile is a bit more on the tangy side versus the other versions we've had. Nice amount of extremely fresh seafood. Def recommend you get this when you come. I only wish they had a crab-only version! Chowder - Tasty but I realized when I dug in there was no potatoes. I have had clam chowders with no potatoes before but I guess this was something I was looking forward to that day. The only part I really didn't appreciate was the broken shells at the bottom. Not grit (of which there was some) but small piece of broken shell. Sprout Salad - We wanted something light to offset our entrees so we ordered the Sprout Salad. This dish was could have used ... more. I didn't get a lot of the dressing so literally just eating greens and roasted sprouts. We didn't really discover some dressing until we got to the bottom. Overall not sure if this dish worked as a concept. The manager checked on us and was really nice. The servers were just doing their jobs and didn't really perk up until I commented on their fire eyeliner. I love the pan roast and bouillabaisse from another very well known restaurant, and of course I kept comparing it to that one. We ordered the house pan roast and oysters. The oysters were very fresh and the set up was nice. I really liked the green garlic sauce it came with. The house pan roast was okay it's supposed to come with mussels, clams, shrimp, sausage, and crab. So with the crab, I could barely tell there was any in there almost as if nonexistent (we couldn't even taste it). And, yes, they forgot my sausage and were not even aware of it until I brought it to their attention. Sausage was very good and tasty! The food was very good here! We came here for a company lunch where it was mostly deserted and empty and we got all the staff to attend to us! The highlight here is definitely the oysters. They were fresh and the variety was really good! I would not recommend the gumbo, or the pan roast, or the cioppino. There were meh and the flavor was off. There's a lot of random stuff in it that was kind of off-putting and I would not get it again next time. Also the seafood in it was definitely frozen because it was super tough. Just stick to the oysters! A lot of the other ratings complain about undercooked food and several people getting food poisoning but our table was totally fine! None of us got sick or food poisoning and everything was delicious! read more
