I've been to dizzy many times before, usually at night, and usually in a daze of sorts. On this particular day, and it was during the daytime, I was taking a break from the Rock n Roll lifestyle, and decided that a beer and a shot were a good way to kill time. So i walked over to sixth, saw the guitar guy play the happy hour set, and decided this is where i will rest. Before i even sat down, the bartender, Travis, i think, nodded an acknowledgment at me and came to ask me what i was in the mood for shortly after helping the last person. I asked for a Shiner, and he suggested some other local fare, such as austin amber. Another favorite if mine, so i obliged. Also a shot of Jameson. No problem. And in proper daytime drinking fashion, Travis, opened another bottle and poured another shot, when it seemed i was almost done. Again, great. After the quick 2 beers and 2 shots, i paid my tab and headed out. Overall great stop and I'm sure I'll stagger in the again sometime soon. read more

I really like coming to this place during the day. Its busy but not too crazy. I usually end up here on days when some group is playing which makes my experience that much better. Cant say enough good things about the bartender. His name is Travis if Im not mistaken. He was pretty outgoing and made sure we didn't have to wait for our next drink. Middle of the road, afternoon visitors... the bartender was pissed that customers were even there ruining his intense iphone4 Facebook session but served us drinks regardless... good thing I ordered a beer with this shot because I needed something to wash down the enormous price he charged me for a miller light and one jameson shot.. $14. So it's a $10 shot and a $4 beer??? Well, I was with some people and instead of joining the bartender in the ring of assholes I decided to take the high road and accept the high price... I then looked at several reviews once I left noting "cheaper" drinks and realized he double charged me for his own personal gain. I called the bar and left a message for manager. Live music good atmosphere! So far, I would say it's my favorite bar in Austin. The guy who plays acoustic guitar is great. This guy really makes the bar a great experience. I'm partial to the afternoon and early evening crowd there. Not crazy about the band that came in at night when I was there. A bit of a different crowd as well. I do like the PBR Tall boys. Hate this place! I went all around 6th street and the atmosphere around was mostly similar. Bouncers were pretty friendly. Drinks at good prices. Bartenders were nice and pretty quick. Every was good until this place. Everything was all good until I was vastly over charged for two Vegas bombs! I contacted them twice and never received a reply! And the process to get it looked at by my debit card is a hassle. Shady place. Avoid at all costs! They'll mess the prices up and charge you whatever they want. read more

The bartender who waited on us, was on one. He was on the "I've been doing this for years and I see all kinds of people and I appreciate the type of people who appreciate what I do and I'll do everything I can to make sure you'll have a good time if you're not a butthole attitude" We love this about him. He had sass but bc we were younger and have experience working in the serving field we totally understood him. This is my first official run of 6th Street! With the a plethora of bars and entertainment venues.... we randomly selected The Dizzy Rooster! It smells better than most bars, the live music is very well played, the A/C is full blast....and are bartender Travis was the highlight of our entertainment and ace drinkmaster! Yes. There was a live band, but that was the only good thing. Otherwise would be 1 star. Giant sign saying Sunday-Wednesday $2.75 well drinks and $4 long islands. I ordered a whiskey and 7up. My wife got a bottle of shiner bock. $10.75. Wait, what...? $8 for a bottled beer? Nope. Apparently when you say whiskey 7up you're ordering a call drink. $6 for a call drink. That's more than double what it should've been. Not to mention $4.75 for a bottle of shiner bock which is just plain ridiculous. Gotta wonder how many people don't notice getting charged $6 for a drink advertised for $2.75 right there at the bar. I don't live here, but wouldn't come back if I did. read more

I've never heard of a customer having to pay for a drink they didn't order because the bartender poured the wrong drink. It was horrible customer service. The manager claimed the bar was corporate and they would not replace a drink I ordered and payed for. I ordered a coke and rum and received a coconut rum. When I asked to receive what I payed for they pretty much said the miscommunication was my fault and I would not receive a new drink. Due to the rude and disrespectful manager, them stealing my money, I will be sure to tell my friends not to visit this bar. read more

A most dissapointing experience: i was sitting with my two friends at the bar in this cliche dive establishment, and when they went to smoke outside, the incompetent bartenders took all the half empty beers and threw them away! The staff denied all responsibility and refused to replace the beers, so we left. Go to FRIENDS instead. read more

We passed by this bar but decided to turn around and give it a try. So glad we did. The place was filled but found comfortable seating. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. The live musicians were just excellent and made the evening very memorable. Good prices, good drinks and great entertainment with no cover -- what more would you want on 6th St? read more

Its expensive to say the least. Was not a fan of the super crowded floor space, or the hit or miss music. The bar staff was very accurate and attentive. The girl dancing dubstep to rap music did make me want to drink myself into a coma though. Otherwise i probably wont be returning. read more

This bar has been a hit long before MTV hyped it. The staff is always accomadating and the atmosphere is excellent. I have had friends visit from all over the world,,, Italy to Greece and have sent them there and they have always come back with a smile on their face. They staff have done an outstanding job promoting Austin and showing the best Austin has to offer. read more

My friend and I stopped in here around 5:30 on Halloween and our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The bartender, Travis (might have been Trevor, but we are pretty sure it was Travis), made us feel so at home and taken care of. We were passing through on a road trip from New Hampshire/NY, and Travis gave us all these cool recommendations for other places to go around the city, such as these cool old houses on Rainey street that feature local Texas beer and live music. This ended up being our last bar on 6th street at 2 am. It was a blast. Great DJ, alot of fun! Strong drinks too!

My first time in Austin, first time at SXSW & from the moment my friend & walked in to The Dizzy Rooster, I fell in love with the bar's atmosphere- from the guys who did not card us (my friend & I are 48) upon entering, to the live bands ( loved The Frantic) to the personable bar staff. While the place was amost always packed to capifity, the boys behind the bar always took time for us- whether to show me their selection of Dizzy Rooster ("Cluck You") t-shirts for my son, or to help me find the address of another bar on 6th street-I give The Dizzy Rooster 5+ rating. I visited many times during SXSW 2009 & would recommend heading to this bar when you are in Austin! read more

We actually really enjoyed this bar. It's rather small but the music made you feel like you were at a concert. It was super loud and bumping! The drinks were great! The bartenders were dancing around and having a good time. I even saw people get up on the bar and dance. This place has a small dance floor in the back as well. I kinda wish they had more seating area but because the place is so small, I understand why they don't. read more

We had a nice time here. The band was playing good music and they had Long Island Iced Teas for $4. We had a few of them and they tasted great, pretty strong compared to the ones at other bars, though they are served in smaller glasses. We also had a few vodka and whiskey shots, which were good and reasonably priced. The only downside was that there was only 1 bartender, and though it wad a weekday, there could have been 1 more bartender to speed up things. read more

This was a groovy kinda place. My kinda place. I'd give it a better review, but under the circumstances I was in, I can't say much about it. I didn't order anything. We stopped here (half of the band) while we waited for the other half to get back from signing some deal that had next to nothing to do with the three of us. John had a beer. I was drinking a monster, that I got for free from some street vender guy, which somehow they allowed me to carry in as I finished my slice of pepperoni. A band called Veretti were playing, and they were a cool version of noisy garage something something... I dug it. I loved the Dizzy Rooster. It was a fun getaway from the college crowd on the ave (though they made a strong showing for sure). The bar staff is fun and a little raunchy but very welcoming. Beer is very cold and the service is super swift. I couldn't keep up with all of the drinks coming my way! Between the new pals we met at the bar and the bartender being on top of his game, I never wanted for a frosty cool beverage! Tip well! These guys are slammed at the bar but they bust ass to get you your drinks and don't forget to look you in the eye when they hand it across the bar. I still want my "I heart Rooster" tank top!
