    California burger

Went tonight to see a friends band and enjoy a lighter dinner. Was certainly not expecting 5 star cuisine but it was good to say the least. I tried their Stromboli and I'll say that it was quite delicious for bar Stromboli. The marinara dipping sauce for the boli is a 6.5 at best but it was palatable. My wife had the California burger and said it was pretty good as well. The place is pretty standard bar food so don't expect Michelin quality. And our server (didn't catch his name) was great and always around if anything were needed.

Never heard of this place until seeing a clipper ads. I went with a friend and looked like a home on the outside and sports bar on the inside with a ton of TVs. Be mindful if you are sensitive to temptation bring a jacket. The service was friendly. We tried the the BBQ burnt end fries as an appetizer. Crispy, BBQ cheesey goodness. The ends were just right chewy and melted in your mouth yummy. The underdog it was a hotdog wrapped in bacon and deep fried with sweet potato fries. The fries I wish they were cooked as long and crispy as the regular. My friend, tried the cheese steak sub she enjoyed it with the onion rings. Too many decisions means there is a good chance to come back.

We had a great visit to The Dog House on a Saturday night. We originally only chose to stop by because of the band they had scheduled for the evening. We are very glad we did stop, because we had a fun and tasty visit and will  definitely return on a regular basis.   The layout of the building chunks different dining/bar areas and provides a nice space for musicians, which isn't squeezed in between tables. We were impressed with the food. We had the California burger and onion rings, which my wife is still talking about how good it was. I had the cheesesteak stromboli which was very good!  They have a nice cocktail and beer list, but quite a few of their beer menu items were out. Prices for drinks and food are very reasonable. The service staff was friendly and professional, but appeared to be very short staffed as our waitress was covering a large portion of the dining room. She was always attentive when we needed her, so this is nothing against her.  If you're looking for a relaxed place to grab dinner or watch a game, the Dog House is a good choice.

Solid start for this new restaurant! They have a decent draft beer list and great prices. A double crab cake dinner with 2 sides was $18! The kids' menu has a good selection of entrees, too. We had the fried calamari app and were happy with how nicely they were cooked. The rings were thicker cut than usual, but not rubbery. The garlic aioli was yummy, but the rings could have used more seasoning. I ordered the double crab cake dinner and was very pleasantly surprised! The cakes were delicious & contained tons of lump crab. They were seasoned perfectly and had no bell peppers or anything inside to detract from the flavor of the crab. My husband got the California burger and we were not impressed with it. It was well-done even though he asked for medium-rare and the tomatoes were sad-looking. The flavor was ok and the beef seemed decent quality. I didn't notice too much different inside, except that the moose statue is gone. The lighting & tables all seem the same, but I'm sure things will be changed as they are open longer. They are still working out some kinks, such as my salad arriving with the entree and second crab cake being forgotten at first. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. We will be back to try the hotdogs next time!

Had high hopes, but the service was poor, the portions were small and overpriced and the food was quite poor. We will not be returning.

I believe I found it at Big Ray's. My two dogs were just as yummy as I expected, but I could only eat one hot dog because I had to get the fresh-cut, homemade French fries. Very homey feel with friendly service. Al fresco dining is available when the weather is nice. The staff was very friendly, and I can attest that the food is great.

The only real question: Would Big Ray's chili dog treat me kindly? (Important considerations were made.) We arrived around 5:30pm on a chilly January Friday and quickly realized we were not alone in this brilliant decision. The dining room was already about ¾ full, which I take as an excellent sign when evaluating burger-and-dog establishments. After a quick menu scan, I locked in my order: a ¼-lb beef hot dog with chili, mustard, and onions ($4.99) plus a Diet Pepsi (because balance). Adventure Buddy went all in with the Honey Butter Chicken Club ($8.59) and an order of fried pickles ($4.99), washed down with an orange Fanta. Total damage? Under $27. Date night win already. The food came out fast and piping hot, which is exactly what you want when you're this hungry. My chili dog immediately delivered--solid flavor, generous chili, and most importantly, the hot dog was grilled, giving it that slight snap that separates the pros from the amateurs. No soggy sadness here. Adventure Buddy's chicken sandwich was also a standout. This was a legit chunk of chicken breast, not a sad, thin patty pretending to be something it's not. Crispy, juicy, and the honey butter added just the right touch of sweetness without crossing into dessert territory. The fried pickles were thick-cut, crunchy, and exactly what fried pickles should be--dangerously snackable. All around, Big Ray's absolutely delivered. Solid food, quick service, great value, and the kind of place you immediately add to your "easy yes" rotation for burgers, dogs, and sandwiches. I'll definitely be back--especially once the weather warms up and that front patio becomes fair game.

The total came to $14.79, which is an awesome lunchtime bargain. I honestly can't remember the last time I fed two people lunch for under $15. Major budget win. It had been 15+ years since my last chili dog from Jimmy's, so while running post-Christmas errands and finding ourselves nearby with no real timeline, we jumped on the opportunity. Things have definitely changed since my last visit. It's clear Jimmy's has dealt with some difficult customers over the years--numerous signs now ask folks to grab their food and head out. No eating inside, no public restrooms, and no replacing lost, stolen, or forgotten beverages or chips "due to a high rise in thefts and customer walk-outs." Back in the day, I remember a packed counter with customers chatting and eating. That era may be gone--but thankfully, the food hasn't changed where it matters most. My love for Jimmy's chili cheese dog remains completely intact. It's not the hot dog or the bun doing the heavy lifting here: simple white bun, basic hot dog, lots of onions and mustard. No, it's *that chili*. Good lawd, that chili. I don't know what magic is in it--maybe the greasy orange residue it leaves behind--but one bite instantly reminded me why Jimmy's holds such a special place in my heart. I demolished the entire thing in seconds, with only audible moans to signal that I had not, in fact, been transported to actual Food Heaven. The fries were a solid supporting act--thick-cut potatoes, perfectly fried, piping hot. They came unsalted, but salt packets were thoughtfully included in the to-go bag, so no real issue there. The portion size was bigger than expected for the price. The hot sausage with cheese was another win: perfectly grilled, slightly charred, and just spicy enough to satisfy. Served on the same basic white bun with American cheese, it was simple, classic, and done right. Plenty of free, on-site parking is available right out front since Jimmy's is located in a strip mall. Be sure to check the hours--6am to 4pm most days. Jimmy's won't satisfy a dinner chili dog craving, but it will absolutely fill your belly at lunchtime and leave you wanting more!

The lady behind the counter said, not many people were coming in to sit since February so they shut down the seating area. Too bad, because it was a cute little counter to sit. Regarding the hotdogs, I ordered two chili dogs with mustard. The hotdog itself was very bland. The chili was just OK. I would not go out of my way.

Topped with a perfect amount of cheese sauce, just the right hit of Old Bay, and a nice touch of chives, they absolutely deliver. My one suggestion? Skip the butter. It's unnecessary and ends up making the fries soggy, which is a shame when the fries themselves are this good. We also tried the crab fries, and while the crab meat isn't lump, it's still a solid topping. Just make sure they warm it up, because ours came out cold straight from the fridge sitting on top of hot fries. A small fix that would make a big difference. Now, the hot dog... I'd steer clear. It's deep fried, and mine came out burnt and dry. To make matters worse, it was served on a steak roll that was cold and tough. It just doesn't hold up to the star of the show. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars, and honestly that rating is carried by how incredible those fries are. We'll definitely be back, and next time I'm skipping the hot dog and going straight for more fries and maybe giving their burger a shot.

That was the best spot to get some food to recharge, so I decided to take a walk down memory lane and get an Italian sub when I got off of work. The staff was inviting, and the place still looked and smelled the same as it did when I was a kid. There was plenty of meat on the sub with all the fixings, and of course, I complemented it with plain Middleswarth chips. Being from Pennsylvania, you have to eat it with Middleswarth chips! My mouth was drooling looking at the sub, even though the roll itself felt very hard. With the first bite, I went right down memory lane, sitting in my grandfather's green Ford Ranger. I scarfed it down, but well... I was disappointed. The bread was so hard that it almost scratched the roof of my mouth. The cheese was just bland, not bursting with flavor, and the salami and pepperoni slices had no flavoring to them at all. I think the only thing that saved it was the hot peppers that I added. To make matters worse, I also noticed the bathrooms were dirty, which is never a good sign. I also felt very slow and sluggish afterward. I don't think food is supposed to do that; food is supposed to give you energy, not slow you down. I do not recommend this place for a sub at all. I'd rather get one from a pizza shop or even Sheetz--and I think all Sheetz food tastes like cardboard, but that's just me. I hope my review helps you decide where to get your sub next!

I've driven by Joy's a million times and somehow never noticed it before. It's tucked into a busy strip mall and easy to miss if you're not specifically looking for it. Spoiler alert: you should be looking for it. My quest for the evening included both a burger and a chili dog, because they both looked amazing and I wanted the full Joy's experience. My adventure buddy and I arrived around 5pm and I was honestly surprised to see only one other person inside when we walked in. We grabbed a booth by the front door and looked over the menu again to finalize our plan. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order a few things and split them so we could try more. We ordered the loaded chili dog topped with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard ($5.25) and one of the Big Block Burgers -- specifically the Joy's Burger -- which came with grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, LA sauce, Swiss cheese, and fresh cut fries ($12.99). Naturally we added bacon for an extra $0.99 because that felt like the right decision. We also each grabbed a Diet Pepsi (to maintain some illusion of balance) for $2.50 each. Our total came to $25.69 before tip, which felt like a pretty solid deal for a two-person Friday night dinner adventure. The setup at Joy's has a classic old-school diner feel. The grill sits right behind the seating counter so you can watch your food being made, and they mix milkshakes right out front as well. The place is simple and no-frills -- and in my experience, those "keep it simple and do it well" places are often the real heavy hitters. The chili dog came out first, and the first thing I noticed was that this thing was HEAVY. This wasn't your typical skinny hot dog -- it was a full ¼-pound dog absolutely loaded with chili. The flavor reminded me of a Cincinnati-style chili dog and it was really good. The chili was flavorful instead of just decorative, the mustard and onions were balanced perfectly, and the bun did its job without getting in the way. As someone who takes chili dogs very seriously, I have to give Joy's credit for delivering a straightforward, perfectly executed chili dog. Next came the burger and fresh cut fries, and when I say this burger was big, I mean BIG. Two patties tall with all the toppings stacked high. We sliced it in half and immediately dug in. The bacon was perfectly crisp, the mushrooms and Swiss were generous, and the whole thing just tasted like a real, proper burger. Not a chain burger that started life frozen and tastes like it could have been reheated in my microwave at home. This was the kind of burger you picture when you say you're craving a burger. The fries were exactly what you want from fresh-cut fries -- the smaller ones nice and crispy, and the bigger ones crispy on the outside with that soft, fluffy inside. Splitting the chili dog and burger turned out to be the right call. It would have been easy to eat everything solo, but my stomach probably would not have forgiven me later. Our server was super friendly and attentive throughout the visit. While we were there, a few more people came in to eat, but overall it felt relaxed and easy for a Friday evening. Parking is free since Joy's sits in a strip mall, but it can be a little tight because there are several other popular businesses nearby. We were able to find a spot without trouble, but I could see it getting tricky during busier times. If you're looking for solid burgers, legit chili dogs, and an old-school diner vibe, Joy's Grill & Burger House is absolutely worth seeking out -- especially if you're like me and always on the lookout for your next great burger or chili dog adventure.
