Me and my brother visited The Boro Inn and the ambience was great and it felt like a true Irish pub, however that's where my praise ends. The owner was very rude and refused us service saying they were closed (it was 7PM on a Saturday, cmon), despite hearing from multiple sources that they close around midnight. The owner told us he was "offended because "didn't approach the bar immediately" and looked around the bar first--which I believe was the reason we were refused service as there were already people ordering drinks in the establishment. Overall, despite our money also being green, unless you're specifically looking for an Irish pub, we recommend that you go somewhere else. I was in town for a bachelorette party weekend with 7 other girls, and have a friend who has a cabin near by that recommended we come to Boro Inn! He mentioned that the owner, Father Brennan, was awesome and it was a true irish bar. He was right!! When we came inside, there were quite a bit of people inside. We looked around and the decor was really great and authentic. Going up to the bar, it was just him behind the bar and it was pretty busy, so after a couple minutes, he came over to take our order. He was very nice and accommodating to us! The Boro Inn is a really cool authentic hole in the wall kind of place and I loved it. We didn't have any food since we had just come from dinner, but maybe next time! I will definitely be back when I'm back in town!! read more

It didn't look like much from the outside, but this was the most authentic Irish pub that I've ever stepped foot in. You have to visit all the different rooms to understand, but I felt like I was in Ireland from the decor to hearing owner Father Brendan tell stories in his Irish accent. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My boyfriend and I walked into this so-called "Irish pub" in Blue Ridge expecting a fun night and some classic drinks. Instead, we got scolded like children and exiled (yes, that's the word he used) for ordering an Irish car bomb -- a drink that's literally one of the most common at any actual Irish pub. The bartender, putting on the fakest Irish accent imaginable, told us to "look at the sign" (a handwritten one hidden behind the bar) that says "No ICB." As if anyone walking in would magically decode that abbreviation. When we didn't immediately understand, he treated us like we'd committed a hate crime. We were polite, we were paying customers, and he acted like he was running a royal court instead of a five-person dive bar. The entire vibe was arrogant, rude, and delusional. There were maybe five customers in the whole place, and now I understand why -- he seems to pride himself on banning people instead of serving them. There's apparently even a "banned list" behind the bar like it's some weird power trip. Save your time and money. Blue Ridge has plenty of great local spots that actually appreciate customers. If I could give this place negative stars I would! I came in to enjoy a whiskey so I sat at the bar and patiently waited. It wasn't super busy or anything. The two bartenders kept taking every other dude who walked up to the bar instead of serving me and my friend. After getting past up several times I got up to leave and as we were walking out the door the bartender yelled "have a good night" sarcastically. Anyone traveling here I would steer clear of this dump. I guess I was passed over because I look gay and they aren't gay friendly. Walked in with my boyfriend, I had to use the restroom so I went immediately to the bathroom while my boyfriend attempted to order for us at the bar. Apparently this particular establishment has some kind of unwritten rules on bathroom protocol. The bartender was upset I didn't ask him to use the bathroom before going??? When I came out, he had already berated and publicly embarrassed my boyfriend for ordering an Irish car bomb. No honey mustard or barbecue sauce. The shocker was the bill. There was no menu. Six wings, an handful of fries, and two little beers $35.20. Three very small chicken tenders, a handful of fries, and two tiny bottles of coke $28.50. He may have thought we were tourists - even though we mentioned we were locals. Complete rip off. Father Brennan was so incredibly rude to my husband and brother in law. They asked for an Irish Car Bomb on St Patrick's Day and were told that they don't serve this and if they ask again they will kick them out. So weird , so rude about it and so unprofessional. Look up and learn about history about Irish car bombs. * While it may have been irresponsible to order an Irish car bomb in a true Irish pub directly from an owner with decedents from Ireland, the understanding of this issue is completely unclear to most Americans, myself included. This might be the coolest Irish pub I've ever been to. It has a dive feel to it, but it's also got some incredible stuff inside: cool furniture, darts, pool, dominos, and the like. There is a great room in the back that seats probably 40 people and feels like a banquet hall, complete with a wolf skin and bear skin on the wall. And Brendan is easily the friendliest bartender I've come across in many years. Every town should have a place like this. read more

We went in on Saint Patrick's Day hoping for a good experience, walked in, cute place, found a space at the bar because it definitely wasn't that busy......25 minutes later we are still waiting for an acknowledgment, a "hey I'll be right with you! If customer service with a big ass fake smile is important to you then don't go here. If waiting for a bartender to finish talking to his buddy before serving you grinds your gears then don't go here. If you want to have a beer or some good whiskey with some friends and a gruff but charismatic old Irishman who lets you bring your dog inside then you should come here. If you're from out of town and sick of the tourist shtick and ready to come off the trails and drink where the locals drink then you should come here. Very unique place for Blue Ridge, it is not on the main road and not super noticeable therefore we didn't discover this place until years after starting to visit Blue Ridge. The decor makes it a very fun and unusual place. Good drinks on draft. Owner/bartender is Irish and a little coarse but if you can appreciate that this is just his personality then he is enjoyable to talk to. Probably the best Irish Pub I've ever been to in the US. I've been to many even in Boston and this place has such a comfortable welcome feel from father Brennan that we felt like regular locals coming in from a long day. Lots of stuff to look at all over the walls. Has two confessions against the wall too!!! It's full of locals and travelers. The manager at Treo told us about this place and I am very happy we got to experience a little piece of Blue Ridge for one night.
