We wanted to have a good time at the outdoor bar, we spoke to the front desk and ask if we can sit outdoor. First they told us the only table was reserved, will give us the next available table, so we sat down and start ordering. After awhile I saw a party left so I ask if we can move to that desk, "it is reserved again". A movement later another table is open, they told us we can't switch table because we have our food on the table already. Not sure what kind of policy is that, we were so angry and left. What makes us more angry is that we saw a lot of open table when we got outside. Terrible service. Maybe they were racist? I would not recommend this place we came in and the our server was very unprofessional and rude. We had asked for a seat And she sat us at a nice clean table then she moved us to a dirty table. She cleaned the table off for us but did not wipe the chairs down, which had food from the previous people eating there. We sat down and our server seemed very overstimulated or maybe just having a bad day but instead of being professional and pushing her personal feeling or life aside she wanted to take her anger out on me and my whole table. She ended up denying my friend mobile id on the dmv app and had the manager come over and the manager was just flat out rude and instead of communicating with us he just told us "you guys have have yourself a goodnight" and we didn't order any food at all even though we had to ask for the menus instead of being seated with our menus. I've had some bad service in my day but honestly the bar service at this place takes the cake. I've never sat down at a bar seat and been so ignored in my life. 2 feet away and this girl acted like I was invisible. 10 minutes later after walking back-and-forth in front of me 15 times she finally says I'll be right with you. I'm a pretty reasonable person and if she was busy which she wasn't all she had to say was hello I'll be right with you rather than let me sit there for 10 minutes no menu no hello no nothing. The drinks were way too sweet and almost 0 alcohol. They claim to use 2 ounces however they don't measure anything and put just a splash of alcohol in every drink they make. Noticing that, I actually ordered a double and got two splashes. Taller male bartender was just as worthless. God help us !!! What happen to customer service. I'll never return. Save your money !!! We accidentally left some paperwork on the table and we immediately turned around Less Than 3 minutes still insight of the restaurant and walked back and asked for the paperwork, when we went back for it, they told us they threw it away and did not offer to get it out of the trash. In this particular instance, it wasn't too big of a deal, but I was totally pissed because they didn't offer to get it out of the trash in less than 3 minutes! I sent my wife in to get the item and when she got in the truck about a block away I drove away and she said they wouldn't get it out of the trash for her. I was immediately pissed off and called and spoke to the manager. Her name was Camden, she gave me lip on the phone and should not have done that because that even made me hotter. I'm going to pick the item up tomorrow because I told her to get it out of the trash and clean it up the best she could and have it at the front counter. She should have offered to do that in the very first place but no, they were young and untrained. Learn some customer service and get your people trained better. The customer is 100% always right. Out of the blue, the manager comes out and yells that we need to get the hell out because they are stacking chairs and we should've known it was time to go. Completely rude and unprofessional. Furthermore, he was threatening to start a physical altercation with us while we were already out on the sidewalk telling him what a jerk he was for being so rude. The owner should fire him immediately if he has any hope of turning his business around. By the way, at 10:00 pm on a Saturday night, if your bar is mostly empty, it likely means your business isn't doing so well. With guys like that working for you, it's not a surprise. As a longtime lover of Cowboy Ciao, I want to love this place soo badly. Yet, I just haven't been able to get there in three visits. The service has been excellent on each visit, I will definitely say that. On the most recent visit, we overheard a patron asking the bartender to surprise her, and she was really happy with her drink. Our bartenders have always been professional and very friendly. It's also decorated beautifully. Tiki bars tend to be really kitschy, and while this one sort of is, it's done in an upscale way. The furniture looks expensive and everything ties in well together. However, on all three occasions, two weekend nights and one weeknight, it has been nearly dead and lacking any sort of vibe at all. This is one of the most prime pieces of real estate in Scottsdale and it should be slammed! One night music was blaring...like, so loud things were vibrating and you had to shout to hear your own conversation. We were the only people sitting at the bar that night, and there were three or four tables occupied, so it was confusing. On another (weekend) night, at 1am there was no music whatsoever. Drinks are also focused around typical tiki style specialty cocktails, and they don't come cheap. This is Scottsdale, so no surprise there, but it's worth noting. To be fair, we haven't eaten at Drunk Munk, so can't speak to the food. We are regulars at Kelly's, so we will likely give this place another shot soon, maybe for brunch! read more

Tried out the Drunk Munk with my sales team and was slightly disappointed. Service was subpar and drinks were very small for the price. I am curious as to why the salsa looks black?? (Might be naïve but I still don't get why salsa is black/shit brown) And why there is so much cilantro in the guacamole that your face sweats?‍ I also don't appreciate ordering the steak tacos at $12+ a pop, when you only get 2 not 3 w/ a side of chips that taste stale? And when you bite into one of the tacos and 3/4 of the meat comes out because it's a chunk of veiny marbling... that you end up feeding it to your dog because you can't chew it... you can understand where I'm going with that. And their "sissy drinks", just like any other...loaded with sugar and flavor, minimal booze , and a headache the next day. Overall...I can still order an IPA and enjoy the outside surroundings. What's the best kind of bar?! A tiki bar! The newest tiki lounge has opened up in old town Scottsdale. The outside door welcomes you with a large tiki head that brings you in to a classy take on the traditional tiki bar. The emphasis of the restaurant is their large curved bar that features a large tiki head in the background. There are other ornamental pieces throughout without it being over the top. I love the small detail of the sticks making the ceiling to help sell the theme. They have an extensive drink menu. Lots of shareable drinks for large groups or couples. The best part is they show the exact way it will be displayed so if you want a cute kitty cat, You can get the kitty drink to show off to your friends. We ordered the banana hammock and the happy buddha. The banana hammock was light, cold and refreshing, with small subtle hints of fruity flavors. It hit the spot. The happy buddha has a lot of strong flavors but it was perfect. Since it is just their opening week a lot of their food items aren't currently available. Hopefully they will have them on the menu soon. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and I was really blown away by the flavor. The sauce was delicious. the gruyere cheese really mixed well with the meat and the pineapple added just the right pop. Overall it was a nice treat for lunch. The prices are a little high on some items while others are pretty good deals. They only have brunch on Sunday which they aren't currently offering but will be in the near future. Parking can be tricky but there is a free parking garage across the street. Plus they have lots of seating on the patio. Overall we had a great time. read more

Cool concept and better service. This was the old cowboy Restaurant and they redid it. Decor is fresh and new, big bar area and they kept the theme throughout especially on the door. We sat outside because it was nice and that patio area was super nice. I fought between a 4 and 5 on this review. I say that because of the food. It was good and we ate it all and maybe it was what we ordered. But the service tipped the review in a positive manner. I definitely want to come back and try more items. We got the edamame and the Pu Pu Platter with a bunch of drinks. I didn't order any specialty drinks or even look because I have my own preferences. Anyways. The platter came out with a variety of options. Pot stickers, chicken skewers, beef skewers, corn on the cob and in the middle was a lit flame. Again it was good, no complaints here, I just want to try more things. Trent was our server and he made our experience...literally. He was personable, energetic, funny and the best part he totally related to all of us and was a human, not a robot server. We were cracking up laughing and just enjoyed our time and Trent made it happen for us. Overall I will be back. It's worth a try for sure. After a long first week of inspiring young minds in 118 degree heat, I was very reluctant to go out tonight. I am so glad I rallied. My experience at Drunk Munk exceeded my expectations. The Mai Tai was the perfect combination of boozy and not too sweet. The appetizers were so tasty. We had sushi, pot stickers and ribs. Delicious!! The real star of the show was Jan, who was our bartender. He is the whole vibe here. Not only does he make a memorable drink...he is also very attentive without making you feel rushed. Horribly unfriendly staff. Overpriced sushi too. Apparently your entire party must be present before you get seated which is fine but you cannot even wait in the outside bar and have a drink. I was literally asked to leave by a snotty attitude hostess after I sat down in the outside bar where I planned on having a drink and wait for my party. I spoke with the manager who explained that they even have a 90 minute limit to give them money then you have to leave. Some idiots are hiring and making policy here. I was there one weekend with my friends. Our server, Calista wasn't the best. She wasn't attentive at all. We waited almost 10 minutes for her to greet us with waters. It took almost 35 minutes for my Bloody Mary and she said it was taking long because of the waffles as she was holding a full stack of waffles. My two friends ordered bottomless mimosas and they constantly had to wait for refills. We finally ended up leaving to get food elsewhere because of how hungry we were. The Drunk Munk recently opened in Old Town Scottsdale on 5th Ave where Cowboy Ciao used to be. They completely remodeled the space and added a patio. It has a retro lounge fee, which makes sense since it's owned by the same people who own Geisha A Go-Go. The Drunk Munk has a Polynesian theme with tiki touches and cool red leather chairs. Atmosphere - 5 stars! Let's start by saying, I'm a big fan of tiki bars, so when I walked into the Drunk Munk for the first time, I got all tingly inside. If I had a basement (who has a basement in Phoenix?!?), I would want it decorated like this. I'm also a big fan of happy hour, and the Drunk Munk is on my favorite list because their happy hour runs even on the weekend! They offer $3 off all specialty drinks during happy hour, so it's a great time to try them out. They have all the cool tiki glasses too, which is part of the fun. I loved the "hula coupe" cocktail, which is a shaken martini style daquiri. But their mai tai needs some work. It was pretty bland (needs more orgeat!) and the glass was mostly crushed ice. (P.S. If you want a great mai tai, go down the street to Hula's Modern Tiki) I'll be back to try more tiki drinks, I can't resist! Drinks - 5 stars for the hula coupe, 2 stars for the mai tai. For food we had the Munk's Big Burger, which has ham, cheese, grilled onion and pineapple and a fried egg. It was delicious. And it came with good waffle fries too. We also tried the Bali Bottle Rockets and edamame for appetizers. The edamame was basic, but good. Unfortunately we did not love the bottle rockets. I think this is a play on a crab rangoon, but in the shape of an egg roll, and on a stick. They are filled with cream cheese, shrimp, sriracha, and garlic, but because of the size of the egg roll it's like biting into a block of cream cheese. They were also pretty salty and had hardly any shrimp. Burger - 4 stars, Bali bottle rockets - 2 stars. If you are a hard core tiki bar enthusiast, you probably won't be impressed by the Drunk Munk, but for those who just want to hang out in a cool space and enjoy a few cocktails, definitely check it out for happy hour! read more

fantastic food!! the service was also pretty good for most of it. as a polynesian myself i did really enjoy the actual islander music they play here, it creates a very relaxed mood in the dining room. the only notes i have about the experience is that it was dead slow with many empty tables and we were sat right in front of the only sunny/hot spot in the dining room (in arizona). i completely understand having to stick to sections, but we were legitimately the only sat table on the floor. our server (sanica i think?) was mostly friendly but she did unfortunately did not take care to mention to my friend that the extra sides would cost more and by how much. i feel like it's a courtesy to always clarify prices of anything not on the menu. we were fine with it being extra and we would have ordered then either way, but it would have been nice to at least been given the courtesy of a notice. read more

The hostess came by a couple of time to apologize and tell us the server would be right over. Good choices on the menu so we were excited. First thing we ordered they were out of. No problem, on to the next. Unfortunately they were out of the next 5 things we ordered. Our server told us about 2 or 3 in, there's quite a few things they didn't have in, so he hopes those aren't ordered. I think he hit almost every one. Drinks look good too. But again, new bartenders, so not really sure how to make them. We had a couple Almond Joys, each looked and tasted completely different. The one that was supposedly made incorrectly tasted better than the correct one. We also had a Mai Tai, not very good. Go to Hulas for a killer maitai. We did find food they did have. Mahi tacos were good. As was the lobster bake appetizer (over priced but good). Unfortunately, the lobster bake did sit well, making for a long night. I think drunk munk is going to find its own and be a good place. Not there just yet. I felt like we ended up yelling from each sides of the table for everyone to be able to hear each other. The drinks are a bit pricey, but then again, you are in Scottsdale. I loved that all the drinks were cute and most importantly, YUMMY! Especially the Almond Joy. OMG, so good! If you love Almond Joy or anything coconut, you will love it!! The service was slow sitting at the table. Another friend came and joined us (far after we all ordered our first round), but grabbed his drink at the bar where he received his drink way before any of us.
