Best food truck experience since Burger Boyz down in Kihei!…read more Best REAL BBQ on Maui, hands down, but it's only on Thursdays. It's no secret that when people in Hawaii think "BBQ," it's standard plate lunch fare. The rest of the menu is fantastic, but Thursday's are the truth. So far, I have had their bodacious beef ribs, brisket, and smoked turkey. All were mouth watering and smoked and seasoned to perfection with big portions. The bakery has also not disappointed. My only knock is that a couple times they haven't been open when the schedule said they should. Normally this might turn me off, but there is literally nowhere else on this island to get this kind of barbecue experience.

We have been here 5 days eating poke everyday so it was time to change it up. Being Chinese, I was drawn to the roast pork which I saw being chopped up as well as char siu and joong ( sold out). So, went with the half pound of roast pork and 4 manapuas aka BBQ pork buns. Even before we left the parking lot, I opened up the roast pork and we each took a bite. We both said "wow, it's so tender, juicy and flavorful". Hubby noted the 5 spice powder seasoning as well. When we got back to the room, I opened up the box and started dipping the roast pork in the mustard based sauce. Double yummy! The roast pork in the manapua is tender, perfect sweetness and plentiful. Next time we come to Maui, we are going to check out their shop. Amazing!!!

The roast duck was really good actually. The general tsao's chicken and chicken lettuce was good, I've definitely been to other spots that were better but I don't have anything bad to say about it. What I really disliked about this place was the Seafood Bird's Nest. Initially, they thought I ordered a Seafood Delight, but my order was missing the noodles. But they basically just fried up some noodles real quick and threw it under. And that part wouldn't have been a problem for me, but it was honestly waaaay too salty (and I like really salty! so that says a lot to me) It was difficult to eat to be honest, but I of course didn't want to waste it. The seafood included 3 pieces of shrimp, about a stick of imitation crab meat, a couple small pieces of scallop, and A LOT of calamari pieces that were soooo tough to chew, we couldn't even really eat them! For the chicken lettuce, they gave us about 3 full pieces of lettuce that was cut up and then charged us $4.00 for more pieces of lettuce which is pretty pricey lol. The siu mai was mid.. but you get what you pay for. There was also a 3% additional kitchen surcharge which was weird...? Still not sure what that was for lol. And then on top of that there's another 3% charge if you use credit card, so just be aware of that. The service was fine, because there was basically no one else in the restaurant anyway. Also - my boyfriend told me they had no soap in the restroom at all which was inconvenient. Overall, the price of their food does not make sense for the level of quality. I wouldn't recommend to my peers to come here, except maybe just grab their roast duck to go.

My wife and I wanted to have some lunch so we came across this small Chinese place . Siu's Chinese restaurant there was no one inside the restaurant. Well I find out why the hot food selection didn't look very good . Prices were reasonable 1 choice $12.50 2 choice $14.95. We both ordered Won Ton Mein because the weather in Maui was raining on and off . It look delicious in my picture but first of all it didn't have no taste I used my mustard shoyu container and dumped it inside my Saimin LOL. The noodles tasted like Somen noodles and the Won Ton didn't taste that good . Service was pretty bad as well there was a young gentleman working the counter and he had no personality at all . While we were dining we saw only 3 customers came inside . I remind you this was prime time around 1pm lunch hour . To their defense that Mall is pretty dead anyway . The ambiance is laid back with the beach bar and grill. It has a beautiful view of the ocean with great sunsets. We usually eat in the dining room and one of my favorite meals was the Macadamia nut encrusted Opakapaka. Since Opakapaka is hard to come by these days, it is no longer on the menu. I want to take this occasion to write about the fantastic meal I had the other night. First, our server Michelle was really wonderful. She had a great sense of humor and made our dining experience all that more memorable. The daily fish special was Onaga and we had never had it. Michelle mentioned it's hard to come by and recommended it. The fish was amazing - very fresh, moist and very similar to Opakapaka. If you ever see if on the menu, get it. It will be a memorable experience. The fish was served on a bed of rice with a beurre blanc finish and fresh carrots. An amazing preparation. I would also recommend the Hula Pie for desert. It's big enough for two (or three)

When you walk in, the ocean views are absolutely breathtaking, and the restaurant feels open, modern, and inviting. Our server, McKenna, was the best waitress we've had in quite some time. She was attentive, personable, gave great suggestions, and made the experience even more memorable. The entire staff was fantastic as well. We started with the Tako A L'Escargot. My wife ordered the Makai Special, which was Mahi Mahi with prawns and potato furikake pancakes, and I ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Fresh Catch (Swordfish) with broccoli and rice. I would highly recommend all three dishes. They also started us off with a delicious complimentary bread basket and a tomato watermelon shooter as a palate cleanser. The Tako (octopus) was moist and buttery, while the bread was soft with a nice crisp exterior. It was a very unique dish. The fish in both entrées was moist, buttery, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, with sides that complemented each dish really well. To top it all off, they surprised us with a complimentary s'more inspired dessert for our anniversary and cookie to go, which was a thoughtful touch and the perfect way to end the evening. If you're looking for an excellent date night, anniversary dinner, birthday celebration, or any special occasion, I highly recommend Merriman's! Note: Parking is complimentary valet only.

First some history: if your familiar with the chef Peter Merriman, he has had restaurants on the islands since 1988 - his first signature was opened in Waimea establishing a farm to fork approach (locally sourced) in all his restaurants. He has several more - MonkeyPods Kitchen, Ulu, etc. The restaurant is located in a beautiful location, right by the water and very close to the Ritz Carlton and several other resorts. They have valet parking which is always helpful and after entering we were seated quickly (you will want to make reservations in advance as they are usually booked). They have a great menu with plenty to choose from. Of course, I started with their famous Mai Tai which is always great! They had the menu printed with my name which was a fantastic surprise!!! Then, had a great appetizer called Chow Fun Noodles with Shrimp and Pork - a great choice. I chose the Lobster with Mushroom Risotto for the Entree which was phenomenal (pictures of the menu and food included in the review). Our waiter was the best and really took care of us as well. Desert was bread pudding - another delicious choice! We loved it here and can't wait to come back.
