The truth is I was here for the Pincipessa Cake! I've seen it on social media for years. I came in for brunch on a Thursday morning. I really hated the brunch menu. I asked if they would serve me a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken at 10am and after some major incompetence they did accommodate me. The servers kept disappearing and at one point I did get a refill on my hot tea and was able to order the slice of cake I came for. I can honestly say while I did enjoy the slice of cake the $45 chicken Caesar was dry and being charged for 2 cups of hot tea to the tune of $16 was extremely off putting. I got the sant ambroeus coffee which was good but the chocolate could have been mixed in better. The plain latter my friend got was much better. I've been here twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. Both times I grabbed a seat at the bar and enjoyed my meal. I'm giving this place a 5/5 because regardless of how busy the establishment is, the service I've received has been great. My water glass was constantly filled, and wine was available when I wanted another glass. The two entrees I had were American Toast and the Linguine alle Vongole. The linguine is literally eye-rolling, mouthwatering, and just the perfect portion for dinner. The American toast is a classic American breakfast that you can't beat. We went in casually dressed at this fancy restaurant for lunch. We had the spinach ravioli which were melting your mouth perfection. The beet and avocado salad was also lovely, though I thought the flavor could be a tad more punchy. This is a cute small cafe with drinks, gelato and dessert. I wanted to get drinks and gelato but it was really packed inside since there's limited amount of seating. There is outdoor seating and there are heaters, but the heaters get overwhelming after a while. I got a hot latte with soy milk and a matcha latte with soy milk, came out to be $14.14 in total. They have a lot of milk options which is surprising, they have pistachio milk, skim milk, oat milk, almond milk, etc. The latte was not good, there are definitely better in the area, it was mostly just foam and not worth $7. Sant Ambroeus has been a go-to for me many times when I'm in Soho and want to grab a bite. I like sitting at the bar and watching the bartenders perform their magic. We were able to get two seats there on a busy Saturday afternoon and had a prime view of the mixologist as he crafted our martinis. Such style! I had the burger, which was very juicy and thick and came with potato chips. My partner had a quiche, which was decent. We were walking around West Village and took our chance in finding a restaurant we could pop in without reservations. We saw the charming Sant Ambroeus and tried to snag seats at the bar. It was a tight squeeze around the bar area, and there were no 3 seats together. We ended up leaving, but my husband chatted with the receptionist and was able to somehow get us a table from a last minute cancel. The table was located outdoor, but we also had great weather that evening considering it's the middle of October. I was highly satisfied with the food. We got the proscuitto and burrata appetizer to share. I thought that the burrata was fresh, and the others enjoyed the proscuitto. I got the branzino as my entree. It was simply prepared with lemon and seasoning, but the fish was moist and flaky. My dish came out with a side of herbed potatoes, but I found the potatoes to be cold. Not sure if that was by design or if they were out for a while. My husband got the tagliatele, which was very good. Excellent sauce. Homemade pasta was perfectly al dente. Only thing lacking was the service. I felt that our entrees took too long to come out especially considering we put our entree orders before the appetizer. This place is very popular to a very busy area, so reservations is a must! Loved the decor and ambiance as it reminded me of a fancy cafe. The menu isn't extensive, but some solid options for food. That is why I took away a star. When you go to a brunch spot you expect some solid options, but this place does not have that. They do have some tasty freshly squeezed juice drinks that pack a mean kick! You can taste all the flavors in it so you know you are getting all the flavor and not any filler. The complimentary bread and olive oil was a nice treat, and so was the appetizer. Even though I came here for brunch, I found myself settling down for the Veal Milanese. It was veryyyy tasty and done right! As big of a cut that it was, I was still hungry for more. The dessert options are soooooo good! 08/19/2024 I went for lunch and was seated at a very nice corner. There wasn't a lot of people when I came for my reservation so i'd say it is okay for a walk in too. Entering the restaurant I believe it was the manager who greeted me and my server was Sarah J/Sarahi. I love the ambiance and the servers are nice. They all take their time to come to my table and the manager even took his time to ask how's everything which was thoughtful. Food was good. They ask you to choose from their bread basket that has three types of bread and I chose Sunflower bread which was so good paired with melted butter. I had to order a to-go of the sunflower loaf which is not in the menu (you can def order just ask your server). I ordered Fettuccine Alla Bolognese for main, it was meat-y made me feel full right away. And for dessert, I had Principessa. Normally I would order a chocolate cake but wanted to try something new so Principessa was worth a try! I've been to the location at the Loews Regency and was in the Soho area looking for a coffee shop to kill some time when I realized I was near the Sant Ambroeus Lafayette location. We popped in to get coffee and I was immediately impressed with the decor and amount of indoor seating available, which to me seemed to be more than at the Loews Regency location. The bar to order at was very cute and well designed. The seating options were comfortable and well spaced from other tables, I didn't feel like we were sitting on top of the people next to us. The service was good originally but after the salad, they made us wait for one hour for a simple pasta with white clam sauce. they kept coming back to say that the clams need time to cook??? who on earth they are cheating to? the clam was the easiest and cannot cook long. In any case, no one came to explain and after numerous complaints - the pasta finally came. In SoHo, there are two Sant Ambroeus restaurants right next to each other. I accidentally went into the cafe first but the proper restaurant is right next door. They let you sit down even if your whole party isn't there which I appreciate because my guest was late. The Negroni was quite good. The table was a bit too small. It couldn't really fit three dishes in a vertical line so I had to eat my appetizer off to the side. The artichoke salad was good though it had way more Parmesan than artichoke. Been meaning to check this place for so long. Finally made a reservation the day before for Sunday brunch. I reserved an outdoor cabin since we were with our dog. The cabins are cozy and warm. Staff was very professional and so kind. They always checked on us and made sure we were taken care of. I love everything that this restaurant offers for brunch. So I see the overall ratings here aren't great... Admittedly, I've only frequented this place once and what I had was delicious. First, we ate in a separate little enclosed dinning space on the curb outside. Super cozy. I had the avocado BLT panini which was oh so yummy good. The bacon was crispy without being over cooked and the avocado didn't slide out when you take your first bite (know what I mean...). The bread - a pressed baguette- was perfect - crispy and not greasy. The sandwich was paired with a simple side salad, and the complimentary bread was almost a meal. Don't take Umbridge with Sant Ambroeus, especially considering some of the items they sell taste like Ambroeusia. This is a really amazing place for people watching and yes it's extremely expensive, but maybe it's worth it. The service can be good or can be really bad, but one of the good things about it is that it is wonderful for watching Manhattan go by, and also wonderful for socializing and flirting. Indeed there are lots of really good looking people sitting out here, and at these prices you can see why it's kind of a glamorous crowd. Not always but often enough. For this reason I really like it, even though I don't think their products are worth the prices you're paying. The same could be said about 99% Parisian and Roman street cafes, and this is better than most of those. You have to understand that what you're actually paying for is really the experience, sitting out here and watching the world go by. When I went with a group of 5 about 1.5 years ago, I remember the art was nice to look at while I waited to be seated. Once seated, I found that it was difficult to find something on the menu that wouldn't hurt my wallet and thus, settled on a $15 sandwich. Many others either went for sandwiches or Eggs Benedict for $19. One of my friends was allergic to gluten, so she just chose the market fruit. The sandwich was fine, honestly, but I kept thinking about I could've gotten the same thing in a cafe for nearly half the price (after tip and tax). Now, the bowl of market fruit was a complete JOKE. It consisted of literally several blueberries and raspberries for $14 (plus tip and tax). One could put that together from Trader Joe's for literallY $3. One other friend also got a small pot of black coffee that was $6?? Let me tell you; I am willing to pay more if the dish is very high quality, unique or made with some level of difficulty and time, but these two things were not worth it at all. read more

BEST Lunch at Sant Ambroeus in one word: PURE. The Verdure al tartufo, the Maitre'd choice from the two vegan plates, is simply exquisite. The humble but colorful presentation does not prepare you for a perfectly cooked sweet potatoes. Beautifully paired with a house rosé wine, 2019 Felice Rosato, which crispness compliments the main course delicate profile. The main course only prepares you for the jewels of Sant Ambrose: THE DESSERTS. If you have a sweet tooth you must come here period: Tiramisu VS St Ambrose, St Ambrose is a winner simply because is a richer cake with soft crumbly texture. The tiramisu size wise looks more impressive but the flavor was adequate, not as rich or sweet as one would expect.
