Yes!!!!!! Just an absolute yes!!! This clam chowder really hit the spot. It was creamy but with just the right consistency. The sour dough was made to perfection with an overall mouth watering spectacular dish. It's extremely rare ( in my opinion) to get a really good clam chowder bowl especially when one's so used to the SF bowls, it's pretty hard to compete but this one is definitely a side by side. The view was so perfect. Especially for a family date. The weather was warm with a slight breeze as we did decide to take a seat outside. Our beautiful, breathtaking view was of morrows massive rock that's sits right in the ocean. Light music from the man sitting near by playing the saxophone. It's was just a really well shared moment with the family. Service was super fast and the girl whom served us was super sweet and upbeat. Great personality and ensured we had all our condiment. Made a reservation for dinner here on our trip to Morro Bay last year, we were both craving seafood. It was a fun night out, so we started our meal with a couple of beers and shots. For dinner, we decided to order all appetizers. We ordered the fresh raw oysters, mussels with fries, fried scallops, a green salad and garlic bread (to enjoy with the mussels). Dinner was great and within walking distance of the hotel we stayed at. Very fun little spot in Morro Bay. read more

My family and I had dinner on Friday night at the Dutchman restaurant. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The bartender was extremely rude when I told him that my drink wasn't good and that I would like to order something else. His name was Dustin. He threw the menu across the table. Our waitress informed me that he is very mean. I asked for the managers name and she said the owners name is Paul. I called the restaurant on Saturday morning to speak with Paul. He was dismissive and couldn't care less. He basically sounded as if he did not want to be bothered. I was told the bartenders name was Dusty and Paul quickly corrected me and said his name is Dustin. As an owner of a restaurant he really needs to learn how to do better with customer service concerns. I was highly disappointed on the way he handled the situation. It's a small beach town and I'm sure the majority of their customers are tourists. I suggest you retrain your staff on customer service skills. Again the waitress was extremely nice and even apologized for Dustin's attitude towards us. read more

The peach and burrata salad was delicious, the ceviche was delicious and the poke nachos were on point however I was surprised and disappointed with the amount of poke in the dish. Take-out poke joints give more poke. Otherwise it's 5 stars! Service was excellent and drinks were great. read more

The Good: *Cioppino was packed full of seafood and the garlicky, tomato broth was delicious--the best part is it was supposed to come with crab but came with lobstah instead! No complaints here! =D *Crab Cakes were fried-fresh, crispy and packed full of crab--no fillers! Even my picky son loved them. *Clam Chowder was creamy, delicious and had tons of clams. And yes to answer your question, I had soup before my soup. What of it? =D *They do have a children's menu despite their website not showing one. *Crème Brûlée was fucking delicious. My friends and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at Dutchman's Seafood House. The food was delicious and I was so happy that their patio was enclosed, heated and dog friendly! Our families were able to sit outside to enjoy our dinner while admiring the beautiful view. We started with drinks, oysters and calamari. The drinks were strong, oysters fresh and calamari crispy. Great start! The rest of our meals were delicious with a few standouts. My son ordered a bowl of creamy clam chowder with crab and shrimp and it was full of seafood. So good! My fiancé and I are spending some time in the area and had this eatery on our list to check out! We arrived around 630P and did not have a reservation. We were able to get seated immediately in the high bar tables - this was great! Monday night football was on too so we didn't mind sitting there at all. We ordered a pitcher of beer and firecracker shrimp to start off. Holy moly, the shrimp was amazing! Just the right amount of seasoning and the shrimp itself was delicious! I ordered a bowl of clam chowder topped with crab while my fiancé ordered the calamari and chips plate. We both devoured our meals. The clam chowder is SO GOOD. I would highly recommend getting this - whether you get a cup or bowl. Top it with crab too!! My fiancé loved the calamari too. I even tried some and it was one of the best I've had in a while! The ambiance is the perfect middle ground of casual upscale, and staff are friendly enough. $18 half dozen oysters...maybe the freshest ever? These tasty gooey creatures are grown and harvested just a few miles away! Bit pricy tho... $23 Rockfish...huge portion, with a mild seasoning, yum! I got the chowder...rich, creamy, and full of seafood! $23 Sand Dabs...huge portion in tasty, zesty lemon sauce, yum! $7 glasses of wine...that's a fair price! $7.50 peach crumble dessert with ice cream...yes please! And my doctor says I need more fruit in my diet... Not sure when I'll ever be in Morro Bay again, but I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. read more

Whenever I'm near the ocean, I crave seafood. Beautiful scenery and they had lots of seating. We started off with cosmos. They looked beautiful and they made them strong! Not too sweet and packed with a punch. I couldn't even write a review until the next day. The oysters on the half shell were delicious and fresh. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried perfectly. Not greasy and were crispy. The clam chowder was creamy and I like that it had many bites of clam and not just filled with potatoes. The burgers were huge and hefty! The non-seafood eaters gave it 2 thumbs up. The fish and chips were also delicious. Not greasy or heavy. The fish was light. The cioppino was beautifully plated. The broth was the perfect stew. What a great view from this restaurant! To be honest, I chose to eat here for dinner simply because there was the most beautiful sunset happening and I wanted to be able to watch the rest of it while I went to eat. I ordered the crispy fish tacos and opted for garlic fries in place of the beans. It was very yummy, no complaints but not the best food I ever had. Better than ever! I've come here off and on over the years and always liked it, but my most recent experience after going to dinner for my birthday was off the charts. They've updated their menu and now it has some great new items beyond the Morro Bay Embarcadero staples. My oysters were fresh with multiple mignonettes to choose from, they had local Mighty Cap mushrooms (obsessed) on the menu, and my super picky kids loved their new Mac n cheese. We have been coming to the Dutchman for over 12 years now and are usually pleased with both the quality of the food and the service, BUT now things have changed. For example, we normally order their steamed clams in white wine and garlic sauce. But this time they were stingy with the ingredients and the dish was very bland. The appetizer also came with steak fries but NO more, If you want those, you have to order them separately The salmon Oscar had little flavor and the Risotto was not moist or well prepared either. I'll start by saying the location/view is phenomenal, the people and service were fantastic, and the firecracker shrimp were great?! Sadly, that is the end of the good news. Wife and I both got grilled fish tacos. I had a shard of oyster/mussel shell in mine. Quite the crunchy bite. She somehow got a French fry in her grilled fish. Not sure where the cross contamination can occur there? Then the fish was so over cooked it was like fish flavored chicken. Add that to lacking any kind of flavor (thank goodness for the tapatio), and these just weren't good. The black beans that came with it had zero flavor either. Sadly just disappointed with the whole experience. Maybe an off night in the kitchen? It was our only visit here so we can't compare. Another random odd thing was the busboy walking around filling up waters and clearing plates while he's eating. Mouthful of food and chewing while he's working? Odd, but maybe they are short staffed and he's trying to help out but not taking a lunch break. Either way, not a good look. Other tables food looked great. On a cloudy, calm Monday morning during COVID restrictions, we walked up with no line and received our delicious food in a jiffy. Very warm, courteous staff helped us from beginning to end. Kudos for raising the bar for not only tasty and fresh food but for also the warm and hospitable service. The fish n chips are really good. The Ahi salad was excellent. The burger was on point. No complaints about the food and the service. The only thing they can use here is some fresh paint which I hope is in the works. The sea air can present challenges but it's still a great place. We got here on a Sunday around 3:30pm for an early dinner. The host who sat us offered us a window seat but it was really bright so I asked for another table and he looked at me and said "Why?" I explained that the table he was trying to give us was right near the window and really bright and he just said okay and let us go to another table. I was really put off by this exchange and contemplated leaving all together but my husband encouraged me to give this place a chance. We ordered the clam chowder with added dungeoness crab, the seafood louis salad and the seafood platter. No complaints about the food. All of it was really, really good, which is the reason for my rating. Our waitress however, seemed really distracted, took our order, dropped our food and never returned. We had incredible service by Tyler who went above and beyond for us and we appreciate it.. myself working in food and beverage for 10+ years. I was very impressed. The food was very good. Long time visitor to Dutchman's. Really enjoyed the quality food and relaxed atmosphere. After my most recent visit, I realized the menu has drastically changed. You no longer receive a cup of chowder or salad with your entree and my favorite entree of crusted halibut is gone. I did order the lesser quality petrale sole aka flounder aka fake halibut. It was decent but always lesser quality than halibut. I suspect a new owner cutting costs, which is fine, but don't remove a long time item off your menu completely! read more

Found this spot on our drive up the coast. It was so simple, yet so good, we came back on our drive back down the coast. What was simple yet good, you ask? Clam chowder, in a bread bowl. The clam chowder itself, is better than any other we've had in Cali. Even better than the ones we tried in SF. Yum, yum, yum! The bread bowl was meh, but the chowdah was bomb. And, add the lobster on top, you're welcome. The cioppino was pretty good, as well. The Parmesan bread it comes with was really good. The garlic mussels with fries were soooo good! I came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch after kayaking out in Morro Bay. The wait time was around 40 minutes and I really liked how they had an online interactive waitlist. They text you when your table is ready so you can walk around and explore Morro Bay. In addition, you can click the link to see what position you are on in the waitlist. We got one of the best seats in a corner with a perfect view of the Morro Rock. My friend ordered the clam chowder with a side of garlic bread. I ordered the clam chowder and caesar salad combo. The prices were super reasonable and the food came out super quickly. The service was fast and friendly as well. The food was good, but not great. In my opinion, I think you could get better clam chowder at Splash, but YMMV. read more

Cioppino might originate from SF, but Dutchman at Morro Bay gets it right. Flavor is probably the best I've ever had and I've eaten a lot of cioppino the last 10 years in the Bay Area. Cioppino arrived with more seafood than in the other yelp photos, but sadly didn't come with any crab. I got half a piece of lobster tail though. It comes with the most perfect garlic bread for dipping. I'm a sucker for bread, but this bread is beyond perfection - super crunchy garlicky layer on one side, and other was soft and fluffy. Oh and as if the big plate of seafood isn't enough, it comes with a side of house salad or chowder. Our server, Tyler, was amazing and brought over a hot pepper sauce that surprisingly was the perfect pairing for the creamy clam chowder. Only thing I would skip is the steamers. Maybe it wasn't the season for clams because the ones we got were puny. All employees were masked and I didn't see them fidgeting around with their masks so it made me feel better. Second time I've been here and they have the RUDEST staff. As a younger person who is also in food service business I would never make comments about a group, at THE VERY LEAST to their faces. Food was fine but the sour service spoiled the dinning experience. The host hesitated to seat our group of 9 (I get it space and it's a Friday but we were fine with waiting) but let two other large parties, with out reservation, that came after sit first. Thanks to the Good Lord Above, the sky was clear, the water blue, and the sun a-shinin', which gave us a great view! Our waiter was prompt, helpful, and pleasant. Now, the food... I ordered the Fish Sandwich (I can't remember the exact name) but BOY... the bread was so fresh and delicious. The lettuce was CRISPER than a cold morning in December, with the most beautiful, red, sweet and juicy tomatoes you ever did see. Def grown in some grandma's garden. Then, the pickles were so crunchy and the perfect blend of tart and savory. The fish was absolutely cooked to perfection. I ate every last bit.
