We arrived in town quite late at night and this place was one of few places that were still open after 8pm. Since it's already dark we couldn't enjoy the ocean view outside of the window. The food was average, service was a little slow but you can't be picky about those things in a small town. We had some fish, clam chowder (too thick, too much cornstarch) and some salad. First time here. When we came to Morro Bay, the wind was blowing so hard that it was impossible to eat outside so we found refuge here. We enjoyed the service and ambiance. Tried this location around 4:00pm on a Thursday on our walk down the Embarcadero. The hostess sat us at a table with a bay view, which was great, but I made sure to ask if it was ok to sit there since we were only ordering drinks. She was so friendly and articulate and told me it was totally fine. While the server was professional, she definitely flinched when we said we were only there for drinks. I then asked my husband if he'd like oysters and he was very excited but she let us know there was a red tide so no oysters for a few days BUT she didn't offer us anything else or try to upsell at all. Honestly, we would've stayed longer but we felt like we were holding up her table. FYI if you're a person that runs hot like me, it was VERY warm/stifling in the main dining area when we arrived. This time we had cod and chips which we preferred to the regular fish and chips. We also had the platter which included fried fish shrimp calamari clam strips and baby octopus. Calamari was great. My sister had a spicy bloody Mary which she enjoyed. I had the top shelf margarita. If you like them strong it was great me I had to add a little sweet and sour. The crab meat look more like tuna, and the shrimp were those little tiny ones that you get in a 99 cent cocktail in Las Vegas downtown back in the day. The clam chowder is very pasty and in fact it was cold and we asked them to please warm it up. They had just opened so I doubt it is homemade. Almost no clams at all. Everything was fantastic once we got past the Hostess stand. Researched the restaurant on Yelp and saw that they do not take reservations. We walked to the restaurant from our Airbnb on a Monday night around 7PM. The Hostess said it would be about a 20 minute wait. We asked if we could wait at the bar and grab a drink. She said, "No, the bartender is overwhelmed." So we waited and waited. A group of three walked up and the restaurant was expecting their group (reservations?), but were 15 min early, so they asked if they could get some drinks at the bar and she said YES! Umm, okay. We wait a few minutes more, at a 30 minute wait now, and another couple comes up. They ask if they can wait at the bar and the Hostess says yes to them as well. Then she says, "Oh, you two can go in and wait at the bar too". Before we could order anything, the couple that arrived just after us and us were seated. Why not a terrible rating? Once seated, the service was AMAZING, the food was also. Great location. Highly recommend swinging by there and getting on "the list" at the Hostess stand and go shopping or grab a drink somewhere else. It's worth the wait. The poke nachos was a great start. I have to say this was a nice surprise. The atmosphere is authentic - funky and the staff is very friendly. The patio outside is terrific with a view of the bay. That said I highly recommend the clam chowder (order the bowl because the cup is really small) and the fish and chips! Comes with a salad if you want a healthier choice. A visit to the coast generally calls for seafood. We ordered takeout to share in our vacation rental. In general, we were all satisfied. I had the cioppino and shared a shrimp cocktail. My son enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, garlic bread, and some fried fish. My mother had the clam chowder and a bread bowl. She said this chowder did not disappoint. Yes they're dog friendly. Three tables out front by the water, but bring your hat. It was bright on Sunday night 6ish and a jacket in August. We'll come back again without our dog fue sometime because the inside looked really nice. Friendly service. It the menú seems pricey split fish and Shrimp and add a salad and your out the door for 50$ 2 people. Morro bay is mágical. We love the harbor walk with Georgia. We got to rest our legs and sit a while at our table at a wife part of the trail but really not many people at 6. They brought Georgia water and Fussed over her. Prime view of Morro rock while you're eating. There's also a patio walkway that's open to the public that wraps around from the back. We got seated along the windows. Best view of the rock. We ordered crab cakes ($18.95), fish and chips ($16.50), and snapper (rockfish) local with the sauce from the Pacific sands dabs dish ($18.95). That was recommended by our sever and it was delicious. It's with a lemon caper sauce instead of the original lemon thyme vinaigrette sauce. Served with pilaf rice and seasonal vegetables. The best crab cakes (2). Super fresh with chunks and chunks of crab. Be careful because I bit on a piece of crab shell. The Alaskan cod was used for the fish and chips. They were giant pieces and the batter was crispy and the fish stayed moist. read more

Very good food, excellent & helpful service, server made some good suggestions and our dinner was one of the best we've ever had in Morro Bay (much better than Dorns). While the food was relatively good, I may not be back. I ran into my server in the bathroom and they left without washing their hands. Do they really need to post a big sign in the bathroom that says "Employees Must Wash Hands." I felt so paranoid eating my food at that point. If you care to read on, I ordered the prawn pasta which was delicious in the creamy tomato sauce. The fish and chips were ok. The fish was not firm and was more on the soft mushy side. I wanted one last tasty meal to finish off our girls trip. I found Dutchman's from Yelp. Our table had a view of Morro Bay rock. It was so pretty to have a drink and nice dinner and watch the sunset. As a Morro Bay local of 17 years, I don't usually dine on the Embarcadero--let alone write Yelp reviews--but tonight, Dutchman's completely blew me away. I've been here many times over the years, but something has definitely changed. There's a new energy, a new chef, and hands down the best food I've had not only in Morro Bay, but honestly, anywhere. Let's talk about the Fritto Misto--easily the best I've ever had (and I order it everywhere I go). Perfectly crisp, light, and flavorful, it featured fresh broccoli, red peppers, thinly sliced fried lemons, artichoke hearts, fennel, jumbo shrimp, cod, calamari, and green beans--all served with a creamy Romesco and lemon aioli. It was absolute perfection. We also had the mushroom and goat cheese appetizer, and it felt like something straight off a high-end Los Angeles menu--rich, balanced, and beautifully plated.BEAUTIFUL multi mix of so many different kinds of MUSHROOMS!! So good! You just don't find that here in San Luis Obispo county! It's crazy amazing! Like Michelin star!!! The cocktails were spot on, the ambience was cozy but lively, and the background music created the perfect vibe. A huge shoutout to Dustin and Rory, our attentive and friendly server, and bartender, who made the evening even more enjoyable, even though we are high maintenance!! Great restaurant located in Morro Bay. This restaurant has water views and great food, not to mention its service is the best! They have free parking available across the street which is super convenient and there are many cute shops around to check out after your meal. One thing I found odd about the restaurant was the restrooms being outside. Clam chowder was hands down the favorite for everyone. Loved that they had something for everyone including my little boy. The crab and shrimp grilled cheese was something new for me and I gotta say I was impressed!! Everything goes so well together! Loved the sauce it came with, so gooood. Fried calamari was perfect as well, not too chewy and just enough crisp on the outside. I don't have to say anything about the fish because I'm sure you've read the other reviews that talk about how fresh and buttery it is :) Check it out if you're in town. We came here after finding out Giovanni's was closed already. This was the second time this has happened to us! I've been trying to go to Giovanni's for a couple of years but they're always closed when we try to go. Oh well cause we would never have found Dutchman's otherwise! There was plenty of parking available on the street and there was a lot across the way. It's super cute that you walk through this little area to the back where the restaurant is past the gift shop. The hostess immediately got up and asked us which table we'd like and we couldn't pass up having an ocean view right in front of Morro rock. It was perfect and we got to see seals, otters and kayakers right by our window. Our waitress was also very nice and hospitable. We ordered two cups of New England-Style clam chowder and the Dutchman's Platter. This was way more food than I expected and kept the two of us full. The clam chowder was delicious and hot and went perfectly with the little oyster crackers. They really fill that chowder bowl up to the brim! The Dutchman's Platter came with fries, two pieces of Alaskan cod, two large prawns, calamari and clam strips with three sauces: tartar, sweet chili and cocktail. The portion was very generous and honestly we were struggling to finish it towards the end. The food is very hot especially the fish so be careful! Our favorite sauce for everything but the fish was surprisingly the sweet chili. It had a little bit of a kick and went well with most of the items. The fish was super moist and flaky and were huge pieces that went really well with the tartar sauce. The plate is absolutely overflowing with fries. You may be tempted to order the bistro garlic fries which sounded delicious but this was plenty. The price was very reasonable for so much seafood, ambiance was good, service was good and the food was fresh and delicious. No complaints here! read more
