A pleasant surprise, with a few caveats. The Dutchie in Morro Bay ended up being better than we expected. Cool space, good service, and genuinely great views to go with it. The standouts were the dishes that leaned on freshness. The rockfish ceviche was excellent, and the tataki was really great as well, both clearly built around quality, fresh seafood. Where the menu dipped was on items that seemed like they were working from frozen rather than fresh product. The shrimp croquettes in particular fell flat compared to everything else we ordered. Overall a good experience and worth a visit, especially if you stick to the fresher, more special items on the menu.

One word. Yum, I wanted Steak and Lobster and I got it! We were seated immediately. I ordered a Long Island, my vacation drink, and the steak and lobster plate. It was ok. The steak was ok but the lobster made up for what the steak lacked. The lobster was juicy and a little sweet. The butter was the perfect amount of salty. The potatoes and asparagus were on par. The long island snuck up on me just the way I like it. I will be back! Our server as also the coolest. I think she was French (so fancy).

Stopped by the dutchie on Friday night for dinnner and everything was great. Our server was very attentive and nice. We ordered cocktails, appetizers and some entrees. Everything we ordered was amazing. The clam chowder was creamy and flavorful. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was creamy and had great taste. The calamari and crab cakes were crispy and packed with flavor.

Ate here on a sunday early evening. The service was super good, every staff member is helping with every table. Got lots of free refills on a diet Pepsi. I ordered the half dozen oysters and these were great, especially with the horseradish sauce. Also the bistro fries were good, but very oily towards the end. I got the cioppino since it offered so many different seafoods. It was super light and needed a bit more salt. There was plenty of calamari in it, loved the lobster tail as well. I didnt eat the garlic toast that comes with it as I'm gluten free but my partner said the toast and the soup didn't complement each other. They were just both good on their own. We also ordered the local rock cod and this was good. The vegetables could use more seasoning though

The food is absolutely delicious and large quantities. They don't skimp on anything here. I ordered a calamari appetizer and I'm telling you it was enough for four people. Really it was enough for a meal. But I also ordered a meal which also turned out to be absolutely delicious. I ordered the steak and lobster. The service is very elegant and the ambiance is classy and the restaurant overlooks the water. Everything about this restaurant is wonderful!

We had a fantastic dining experience at The Duchie! To begin the restaurant itself is in such a cool location being right on the bay the ambiance is incredible. Our server Tyler was attentive knowledgeable and extremely helpful, he was able to give me suggestions about both the Tomato Burrata salad and help me pick out the steak I wanted. I ended up ordering the Hanger steak with a side of lobster. The steak was perfectly cooked and the lobster was delicious and buttery. We finished off our meal with the Basque Cheese Cake which was the cherry on top of a fantastic meal!! Of course, our server Tyler was the one to suggest it for us. Tyler's service was second to none, he really made me feel like family. I'm super grateful for the wonderful meal, it made this vacation one I won't soon forget !!!

The restaurant offers great views and excellent service. I ordered a sandwich, but I also had the chance to try my husband's fish and shrimp with chips. I'm usually not a big seafood fan, but I have to admit that I really enjoyed the fish and chips at the Dutchie. My husband insisted it was because the seafood was so fresh, and after trying it, I believe him.

Dutchie was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The seafood is excellent, especially the specials of the day -- every recommendation was spot-on. I had the sea bass with a crab cake, mushrooms, and spinach, and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. The restaurant is very kid-friendly, which we truly appreciated, and the views right on the water made the entire meal even more enjoyable. A huge shout-out to Tyler, our waiter -- he was exceptional, attentive without hovering, and his recommendations did not disappoint. We had such a great experience and are already looking forward to coming back.

Clam chowder bread bowls, Local Rock Cod, and Fish, Prawns, & Chips

Saw the other Yelp reviews and everyone was raving about clam chowder bread bowls. We ordered two of them, and the Local Rock Cod + the Fish, Prawns & Chips (subbed with onion rings). Definitely see the hype with the clam chowder bowls--it was absolutely stuffed and filled to the brim (and spilling over) with a healthy amount of clams, potatoes, and other goodies. I thought the cod was decent but lacked a bit of flavor. Fish and chips were good and I liked that there wasn't an excessive amount of batter. I liked the onion rings as well! I wish we came during the day so we could see the views of the ocean, but we'll have to visit again

You can't beat the view especially at sunset. Spectacular views. I had a wonderful Manhattan and the clam chowder in a bread bowl. Server was attentive and kind. Open seating in the bar. Great place by the ocean. If I'm ever driving through again I would definitely stop here again.

We came in on our first night and sat at the bar. I wanted a non-alcoholic drink, and the bartender created a delicious lime-coconut cocktail for me--it was amazing! The service was so warm and attentive that we decided to come back the next night for dinner. I had the clam chowder in a bread bowl, which was absolutely to die for, along with the crudo and shrimp croquettes--everything was fresh and flavorful. We were lucky to have the same bartender again, and the service was just as fantastic as the first night. A+ all around--highly recommend!

Moriah, our server made us smile our entire dining experience.

" Mermazing" food, service & ambiance .We had the best window seat with the best view right on the harbor. Moriah served us so well. She knows the menu well and spoiled us with her beautiful spirit, smile & impeccable customer service. 5 stars for this wonderful gem on the water. We had a prawn cocktail, dinner salad& clam chowder in a sourdough bowl topped with crab ! It was all so wonderful. We will be back the next time we visit Morro Bay .

On a quick day trip on a Friday afternoon, we decided to give this place a try. No reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. Although we did not have a full bay view, we had a partial bay view. Some hits and misses with food and service. 1. Bowl of Clam Chowder (no bread bowls available). Chowder was piping hot and had nice pieces of clams (dad got a bit of clam shell..so be careful), celery and potatoes. The chowder was very creamy and not grainy or watery like other locations. I would definitely order again 5/5 2. Fish & Chips: Fresh Pacific cod, lightly breaded, served with house-made tartar sauce. Fish was fried to perfection. 5/5 3. Seafood Pasta: Linguini with jumbo prawns, fresh catch, Cajun cream sauce, garlic bread. Everything tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly 5/5 4. Side of Garlic bread: extremely disappointing. We ordered garlic bread with our chowder, it never came. Waitress decided to serve it with the mains (fish and chips) and we ordered for the entire table and she only brought 2 pieces. 5. Insalata Molina: Mixed greens, arugula, pear, walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, mango vinaigrette. Couldn't tell you if this was any good bc the waitress NEVER brought but charged us for it. She then takes it off the bill and brings me the salad in a Styrofoam container. I told her I didn't want it and put it in my bag. Salad was so soggy (which means the kitchen prepared it and the waitress forgot to serve it) I would not order and do not recommend ordering it bc it was the size of a side salad definitely not worth the price point. 6. Mocktail Lavender lemonade: definitely not balanced, was pretty tart and again the price point was off. It was about 8oz lemonade for $12 They do offer a nice selection of wines. Restrooms are located outside the restaurant and are public restrooms, pretty dirty and out of stock. Although our service was a big miss, I do recommend the food items we ordered. I did take a star off due to the service.

When we entered the dog-friendly patio with our little Goldendoodle, Bailey, a large dog seated at the table closest to the only patio entrance lunged toward her and bared its teeth. Since it was the only way in and out, I let the staff know I was concerned. They immediately spoke with the owners, who moved their dogs farther under the table, and after our meal, the owner's father went above and beyond by opening the rope barriers so we could exit another way and avoid walking past them again. Both the father and son were incredibly kind, understanding, and accommodating, which we really appreciated. Once we were settled, we were able to enjoy the beautiful patio. It's a quaint waterfront spot with gorgeous views, a relaxing atmosphere, and the perfect setting to enjoy fresh seafood. Bailey was promptly brought a complimentary bowl of water, and we loved seeing so many other well-behaved dogs enjoying the patio. It's easy to see why this restaurant has such a great reputation for being dog friendly. We ordered the King Salmon Quesadilla special, and it was absolutely delicious. It was packed with generous portions of fresh salmon, plenty of melted cheese, and vegetables, and it was more than enough for my mom and me to share. My brother also really enjoyed the tri-tip sandwich. Everything tasted fresh and was served hot. While we wish the aggressive dogs had been seated somewhere other than the only entrance to the patio, that wasn't the restaurant's fault, and they handled the situation as well as they could. Between the excellent food, beautiful waterfront setting, dog-friendly atmosphere, and genuinely caring owners, we had a great overall experience and would happily return.

Unfortunately, each visit has felt a little less impressive than the one before it, and this most recent experience was disappointing enough that I probably would not return. Parking is usually easy, and I have never had to walk more than a couple of minutes. There are also a couple of EV spaces nearby. When my girlfriend and I walked inside, the restaurant felt unusually warm, humid, and stuffy. It was uncomfortable enough that we briefly considered leaving. We chose outdoor seating instead, but that comes with its own drawbacks. The tables are exposed to the afternoon sun, pedestrians walk just feet away, vehicles pass close by, and the working dock is nearby, so you hear forklifts, unloading equipment, and active fishing operations throughout the meal. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, which I have ordered on all three visits. They were good and are honestly one of the main reasons I have continued returning. They are not easy to find where I live, and this version is enjoyable, even if it is not on the level of what I have had in places like New Orleans. My girlfriend ordered the clam chowder with bacon. We have been comparing clam chowders around the Central Coast, and unfortunately this one ranked last among the several we have tried so far. She described it as average and nothing memorable. I ordered the steamer clams, and this was easily the biggest disappointment. The very first clam I ate had noticeable grit in it, and unfortunately that continued through most of the bowl. I would estimate that the majority of the clams had some amount of sand or grit, which made them unpleasant to eat. I also found one clam that remained completely closed after cooking. I left it untouched. At a restaurant specializing in seafood, I expected more careful preparation and inspection. The broth was also surprisingly bland. I ended up adding hot sauce just to give it more flavor. As I worked through the broth, I also noticed three small hairs. I cannot say where they came from, but finding multiple hairs in the same dish was understandably concerning and further reduced my appetite. The service did not help. Our server took our order, delivered drinks and food, and eventually brought the check, but there was very little interaction between those points. No one checked whether we needed anything or asked how the food was going. That was especially frustrating because if someone had checked in, I would have had an opportunity to mention the problems with the clams while I was eating them. Overall, the Oysters Rockefeller were still good, but almost everything else about this visit was disappointing: the uncomfortable indoor environment, noisy outdoor seating, average chowder, gritty clams, bland broth, cleanliness concerns, and minimal service. I have enjoyed this restaurant more in the past, but after this experience, I think there are other places around Morro Bay where I would rather spend my money.
