So I received a coupon in the mail for a free oil change and tire rotation due to the fact that my birthday is in december. Called to make an appt. And they do not do maintenance on the weekends, only performance work. Odd, but they said they are open 7-5pm mon-Friday so I made an appt for 7am so I could make it to work by 8:30 (I explained this to Derek, the office guy over the phone). So I show up promptly at 7am, and the place is deserted. Doors are open and not a soul in site. Just as I'm ready to drive off furious, he strolls in with starbucks in hand at 7:24 like he's early. I explain the situation and he says "ok" all asshole like. Then he asks if they have time for the rotation because "I know your on your own schedule". I almost punched his ass. Fuming at this point I fill out some paperwork and head to the back where they have my car. I'm no idiot. Getting free service is a crap shoot. They either dick you around cus they know they aren't making money or they do a half ass job. I walk back there to see the guy searching in the trunk for the locking lug nut star key. Only I don't have locking lug nuts. This simpleton didn't even look at them first or ask me. So then he starts pulling the tires, switches the front driver tire to the rear and puts it back on. WITHOUT BALANCING THEM. I bring this to his attention and he says it's a) not included in the free service and b) they don't have a tire balancing machine. Jesus Christ. If you're gonna do something do it right. The final straw fell when office man comes to the back of the shop and asks me to wait in the front "for safety reasons". Or to drain and replace dirty oil while I'm not watching. Who knows. I have never been to a reputable shop that didn't allow me to watch my car being serviced. Obviously they have something to hide. Don't go here. Even if it's free. Spend $30 and get it done right. I should have known when I saw the shop was on the border of Santee and lakeside. read more

Ok, so really don't waste your time with these guys. I decided to give them a shot because of the Yelp reviews (um, which sadly in this case DEFINITELY cannot be trusted), and because I'd tried JBA Speed Shop for Dyno service before, and felt like they really kind of "mailed it in". Little did I know that JBA was practically the Ritz compared to these guys. Here's how my experience went: first off, these guys don't charge a "Dyno price"; they charge for 2 hours on the Dyno. Their hourly labor charge for RVs? $127. Not bad. For cars? $127. You've got to be kidding me. This place is in Santee, which ain't no La Jolla Or Malibu, folks. So at that point, I should have made a quick exit. I didn't. My problem with this whole "paying for time thing" is that during the 2 hours on the Dyno, the mechanic involved seemed to be spending a lot of time fixing an RV, running around the shop, and just basically NOT doing anything with my car. Normally, that would be cool, but he didn't check for vacuum leaks, or really do much of anything outside of hook it up and race the engine to the redline. Then, the customer service guy proceeded to offer me an estimate to "rejet" my carburetor for $850. Yes. That was the ACTUAL estimate. To give you an idea, I later "rejeted" my carburetor in 45 minutes. So what exactly this $800 was for, I have no idea. I mean, this is the kind of place that I know flourishes in the Midwest, and in places where nobody ever says anything to anyone, or has Yelp, but seriously. These guys are all about the ripoff! Just sitting in their shop overhearing the call ins, complete with the "well, we've been doing this for 40 years, so..."-false authority building was just sad. It seemed like virtually every call they took involved a recommendation for some kind of extreme rebuild/repair scenario that went from seriously unnecessary to practically fraudulent! In hindsight, I should have just taken the $270 and bought a really high end air/fuel meter. Let's add one other gut punch to the situation, shall we: they didn't even provide me with a Dyno printout. For $270! Plus, the mechanic managed to almost break my transmission! What? Yep. So no printout, and repairs I had to perform MYSELF in order to leave their lot! So why the second star? Well, at least they did point me in the right direction. Their diagnosis wasn't totally wrong, but wow... save your money. If you go to the Dyno Shop looking for help and don't know anything about cars, you're in for some serious fleecing. read more

The Dyno Shop too the rescue! Was doing a routine water pump replacement on my class A motorhome I accidentally placed the wrong length water pump bolt and broke the crank sprocket and timing chain. It can be done! I made numerous phone calls trying too find a shop too work on a Class A rv is almost non existent. I found the Dyno Shop based on recommendation and they took the rv within the next business day. Working with Nicole was very professional and would explain too me what they found and was going on with the repairs. During the inspection they found the radiator was old and rotted out. And rebuilt the heater core. Found the spark plug worn out and dirty air filter. Also they replaced the broken crank sprocket and timing chain. I finally got too drive my new and improved RV, impressive no more overheating and feel better throttle response! Thank You Dyno Shop for excellent service and knowledge! read more

Lily at the front desk was nice and kept me in the loop with my vehicle. Thank you to Brian and the guys at the shop for helping me with my smog test last minute. I will definitely be back. Wish I would have tried this place out sooner. Two other places wanted to Charge me and arm and leg before they could even tell me what was wrong with my car. This place is fantastic, I was there almost all day yesterday and had an exhaust system installed. Mark and the guys in the job did an amazing job on my toy. The shop normally closes at 5:00 but three of them stayed until after 6:00 completing the job. Since I was in the waiting room all day I saw many customers come in and how well they were served. I had two great visits to this shop. They retuned my ECU, fixed a tricky air conditioning problem, and replaced my distributor. Mark is very knowledgeable, when I started talking about my Van's vacuum line controlled A/C system, he knew exactly what I was talking about and how it works. do not take your car here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! went in for a smog that was $90. they come out and say: "your car passed the smog test, but the timing is off a few degrees, we can set the timing for $117 and test it again for you....." you are going to charge me $117 to loosen a bolt on the distributor and twist the cap a few degrees?!?!? on top of the $90 i just paid for you to tell me i passed the smog test??!?!?!? i told the guy, i will set my own timing and bring it back. he then said, okay well if you do it, we have to charge you another $45 for the re-test. why would i do that when you just told me i passed the smog?!??!?! i left with the paperwork stating i passed and the only issue was the timing is off. and nothing else. so now, i'm out the $90 and still don't have a certificate. thanks for the $8.25 discount!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!!! i will never use or recommend this joke of a business to anyone. why can't yelp develop negative stars!!!!!!! read more

Do not take your car to these guys. I had two company Vans that I took to these guys a couple months ago. Both for plugs and plug wires. The second van also needed a muffler. For starters it took almost a month to get back the second van, because they told me they had to special-order the muffler. Recently both vans had check engine lights. I took them both to another mechanic in town only to find out that they used substandard parts. They charged me for plugs and plug wires on both vans and the wires were never even changed. The plugs were loose on one of the vans. And I just found out recently that the muffler I waited so long for is actually a part you can get anywhere pretty quick and easy. read more

In March 2017, I took my Jeep in for a smog test and to talk to them about working on my motorhome. While they performed the smog competently, they tried to sell me an unnecessary water pump for my Jeep, going so far as to confer in my presence between the mechanic and office guy about the "sweet smell" of the leaking fluids. I had seen no evidence of a leak, but they tried to scare me into an unneeded, $400+ repair. Yes, I am a woman that went in there alone. I left without letting them scare me. It's now October 2017 and my Jeep water pump is still not leaking and performing perfectly. (I got a second opinion, btw, confirming there was no issue with my water pump. ) Ladies, BE WARNED! I have been using the Dyno shop for 25 years and they never disappoint me. I just recently had my '66 Mustang in for some repairs. They kept the car until it was repaired to perfection. While in the shop, they protected my car's paint finish from dust and grime with my car cover and their other means of protecting the car. When I came to pick it up, Brian Knox, the manager, was gently cleaning a few spots to return the car to me in pristine condition. The car runs great! I needed a place ASAP so I was kinda forced into using them. It was a holiday week. Mark was saying how they would have my shit dialed in no time. They did get me on the road again, but they are expensive as hell. The office guy makes sure he's getting every penny he can out of you. Not nice either. Have Mark do the work if you can. On their receipt it says they will make it right if you're dissatisfied. I had to go back, but they honored their claim and supplied a part to help my returning issue. I appreciate that. They will hustle you out the door if they know they aren't making hundreds off you. They did help me and I was very appreciative. My main mechanic is a badass and doesn't charge anywhere near what these guys do. Evidently they do good work when they want,. But they're suspect as hell. read more

Took my son's 2019 Mustang GT to the Dyno Shop for dyno tune and E85 flex fuel. The mechanic, Hayden, told us what parts to buy and quoted the job at $1,400.00. About an hour after dropping off the car he called my son and told him we needed a flex fuel kit so he couldn't do that part of the job and said the tune was more involved than he thought so the cost for the tune would be $2045.00. My son agreed. They call themselves the DYNO DSHOP but didn't know what was involved with tuning a stock GT? In any event, we picked up the car and it was done right. No complaints except the price gouging of an 18 year old kid. Hayden told us if we bought the flex fuel tuner kit he would install for $200.00. Stupid me, I bought the kit and brought it back for the install. Same thing, got the call saying it was more involved and would cost $500.00 and we also needed to bring him a card because the kit did not include one (it actually did and was in the tuner). Again, the 18 year old says yes and brings the card. Two days later we pick the car up and the tuner is not installed. He said the cost only included programing the card. Installation is extra and BTW the cost was now $795.00. I had words with Hayden but ultimately payed the bill and left. When my son tried to use the tuner, the card it came with was blank and when he put the one Hayden programed in it gave a firewall error and didn't work. I called and spoke to Mark, the owner, he was polite and professional and said he would make sure the issue was addressed the next day and they would install the tuner in the dash as most would expect to be done. Mark didn't seem bothered by the price gouging though and said basically we should have said no and picked the car up. Solid business model there... my son took the car in and it was fixed but Hayden refused to install the tuner in the dash and just left it on the console with wires blocking the gas and brake pedals. Quality customer service...Took me ten minutes to pop out the dash and install the tuner in an air vent. You would think for $2800.00 this would have been done by the Dyno Shop but whatever... Buyer beware...they will tune your car but it will be double the estimate and double the length of time to get it done. Thank you but I will be taking my cars elsewhere in the future. read more

I took my turbo 4runner to The Dyno Shop. The engine had just been rebuilt by another shop and the new power band was very poor. After over $400 and the addition of a highly overpriced boost controller (basically an air compressor regulator), I had a truck pushing 10psi (vs factory 7), a bad fuel ratio per the dyno sheet they gave me. Worse, it hit the fuel cut hard on the way home - obviously was not road tested at all. They had me turn the boost down, almost back to factory settings. And it still had the torque/power coming on very high in the rpm range - bad for a truck. That turned out to be an incorrect cam for the application, but I would expect any dyno guy to get that from the chart. they didn't. After I posted the dyno chart on a forum, tons of people called that as the problem (new cam solved it). they basically added parts it didn't need, didn't solve the problem, didn't diagnose the problem, and charged me full pop anyways. I cannot recommend these guys. read more

After going to other shops to see why the truck felt differ we found out that these losers at the Dyno Shop (if they know what they are doing) should have suggested we got these three parts before we tuned our truck but no instead they tuned our truck and now we are paying more money then we should to fix their mistakes. After talking to different shops around town they suggest to never ever use this place because their reputation in the industry is that they take people money and do not do what they say they are doing or they don't do it correctly. I live about an hour from their location but needed an aftermarket auto computer tuned. Mark was able to accommodate me dropping it off and even mailing it back in good order once it was complete and I could not make it back down. Lucky to find this for my old RV from a Craigslist ad. Not only got my refrigerator replaced and furnaces repaired, but was going to have carburetor done at old place in Imperial Beach, when they said that's what they do. Just tried to get smog check and repair with bad experiences at three different places around Clairemont. Dyno got the correct diagnosis of fuel contaminated oil because I hadn't changed it in over a year and the oil looked clean. But apparently there is a reason for three months as well as 3,000 miles. (RV just sits most of the time.). They also did distributor and transmission, luckily having a used dipstick bulb from one of the many RVs they have for parts. Mark and Derek showed they know their stuff, and went out of their way taking it to Test Only center, customizing refrigerator and getting me at trolley. read more
