This place was very inviting and had a great atmosphere when you walked in the business. The unique food is truly a work of culinary art. The lively ambiance is upbeat, with a heavy blues soundtrack. First, you should try the pickled green beans or the spicy chicken dip, a mixture of pulled chick, spicy cheese sauce of smoked gouda & bleu cheese; it is genuinely impressive! They offer a wide range of sides, from fries, spoonbread, grits, succotash, and horseradish mashed potatoes, which I had. My wife had their shrimp and grits, blacked shrimp, white cheddar grits with gray combined with peppers and andouille sausage. She raved about it, and I wouldn't say I like grits, so I have no recommendation there. The main course I went with Chicken, which is availble in a wide range of opitions, I went with 1/2 chicken which is sereved with the house spicy hot honey. Absoultey fanastic! We went with the Bloody Mary and the Mule, as our after dinner drinks. The Bloody Mary was ok, but the Mule was excellent, angostura bitters, lime juice topped off with Crabbie's ginger beer. Stopped here while in town to see a Reds game. In a cool part of town, but if you're walking from a hotel like Hampton Inn, could experience some interesting folks on the way. I would say in general the location is fine, just walking there was a bit dicey. It was a hot day to say the least so walking in we sat near a window which finally a gent released the blinds. Ordered a couple mixed drinks which were very good - one being the punch, the other being a lemonade. The punch was very good and went with some hush puppies as an appetizer. For lunch i ordered the fried chicken BLT as they are known for their chicken but I didn't want to eat or work on anything bone-in so I took the easy route. It came on thick cut Italian type toast and had some sauce on it. WAS INCREDIBLY IMPRESSED at the taste. Wow. Also tried half of the regular chicken sandwich which had the cole slaw on it - but I liked the BLT better if you are in between both. Cole slaw on chicken that doesn't have a sauce to it doesn't fit to me. Our hush puppies hadn't come out so they went and got more and took it off the bill. Which was very nice. This hidden gem in downtown Cincinnati is one I have added to the "visit every time I'm in town" list. The vibe is perfect from the moment you enter: warm, buzzy, and homey. Brick walls and wooden tables give the feel of a small town pub down the road from a cozy cottage. Pure bliss for an escape from a city. Ryan, our waiter, was so attentive and helpful with suggestions- he even brought out some extra spreads to test out. My part of 3 started with the southern spread and it did not disappoint. A heads up: the green beans are like extra crunchy/thin pickles. The homemade pimento cheese was my favorite part- fresh and a hint of spice. so I'll be perfectly honest I like the eagle quite a bit, I think they have really good food for what it is that they do. And surprisingly they have some of the best fresh salads that I've actually had at a restaurant in OTR. They make a great job composing the dishes, and often they're light and fresh to balance whatever terribleness you're putting in the entree. I've tried both the summer seasonal and the fall kale, and both were spectacular. The biggest problem with the restaurant is they are completely inflexible with their kitchen. If you ask them to substitute or change or put two things together or do anything other than just put out what is exactly on the menu they won't do it. Which is somewhat understandable if you're talking about switching types of chicken, it's completely ridiculous when you can add a fried chicken breast to a salad but you can't add bacon to a sandwich. I can understand when a shop is SLAMMED and it's hard to make adjustments to the menu, but I've only ever made requests when they're relatively slow, and consistently been denied. The Eagle offers good food, but the lack of care and effort for their customers does not seem appropriate when weighed against the quality of what they put on the plate. read more

I can see why this place has so many reviews and 4.5 stars. It's really that good. First, get there before the time you actually want to eat, because there's a line. Got 1/4 Fried Chicken w/White Meat, Mac n cheese, Spoonbread and Kale Salad. This place does not mess around with their fried chicken. It's crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy on the inside. Server said they brine it for 24 hours. What?! I looked around and almost everyone was getting the fried chicken sandwich. Apparently it's the most popular dish on the menu so I would highly recommend it. The chicken is mouthwateringly delicious. The Mac n Cheese is great. Comes with five cheeses and a garlic breadcrumb. Yum! Spoonbread is cornbread with maple syrup. OMG! It was Yummy! You can add shrimp or fried chicken to the kale salad. Got it with fried chicken breast. The salad itself comes with thinly sliced apples, raisins, cornbread croutons, cheese and a vinaigrette. But man, that fried chicken just exponentially enhanced that kale salad. It's just so incredibly crispy and juicy. I'm here laying down thinking, I could really go for another fried chicken. And Bronson, you are a spectacular server! The Eagle was a serviceable dinner spot for my family and I during our summer Ohio trip. The inside of the restaurant was squished at first due to the long line. But once you enter the dining area past the bar, it was very spacious. Seating was good and comfortable and the A/C felt wonderful on a very hot summer day. To start my experience, the host at the host stand was sassy and rude. In my opinion she came off as arrogant. She told us it would be an hour long wait which turned out to only be 30. She had this sense of attitude that she was better than us. I don't know why but this really set the tone for me for the rest of the visit. After coming back when receiving our text that we would be seated, we were greeted by a very nice waitress. She was pretty good. She had good knowledge of the menu as well. She recommended a secret menu item, which was the grilled cheese with a chicken patty on it. That was a phenomenal recommendation. The apple slices paired very nicely with the the cheese. It added a sweet punch to a very savory dish. It was my personal favorite thing that we got. The fries that went along with it were okay. Kind of in the middle of a typical fry and shoestring. I liked the crispy to potato ratio. The sauce that came with it was incredible. I ordered more! The Mac and cheese was pretty good. It was super super creamy, which I enjoyed. The cheese had tons of flavor too which I liked. The biscuits were a bit of a miss for me personally. I thought the jelly and the butter were decent at best. The biscuit itself was super dry and pretty small. I would not order them again. As for the chicken itself, it was pretty good. I mean this place for sure knows how to do their chicken. You can tell this thing was seasoned and marinated in tons of different flavors. The frying was perfect. The crunchy outside was met with a melt in your mouth inside. It was a phenomenal drumstick. Not to mention, the hot honey was excellent. It paired super nice. No complaints there. In my opinion, besides the awful host in the beginning, I would come back here. This is definitely a very popular spot in the OTR section what town. I think that everyone should give it a try, especially if you don't get a lot of good southern food from your hometown! Food (4.5/5) I ordered the quarter white meat chicken and mac & cheese. The bartender told me that their chicken is very crispy and told me the process of how they fry it multiple ways. When I got the chicken, I was not overly impressed with the crispiness of the skin. However, I will say that it is the moistest fried chicken I have ever had. It was very tasty and accompanied by "spicy" honey. It was not spicy. But they would gladly give you additional hot sauce. The mac & cheese was tasty, but I feel like I have had better mac & cheese in other restaurants. Overall the food was delicious though and I would say you will enjoy your meal here. Service (5/5) All of the servers were extremely nice. They asked me if it was my first time. They made sure that the table was clean. They wanted to get to know me. I felt like they went above and beyond to make sure that I had a good experience. Ambience (4.5/5) Cool all-American feel. The bar is pretty. They have nice outdoor seating. The lighting was really nice. It was not overly loud. Bathrooms (4.5/5) It has been a little while since I have commented on bathrooms, which I think is an important element of any dining establishment. Don't order through an Uber Eats delivery! Today marks the second time the restaurant has cancelled my scheduled pick up and delivery in the last 3 weeks. And it's not as though the orders were placed an hour before closing. Orders were placed between 6:00/6:30 pm and they close at 11:00 pm! Then they made me wait an hour before they decided to cancel my order. They seem to have arbitrarily decided at the last minute that they couldn't fulfill my delivery orders, leaving it too late in the evening for me to order from anywhere else. Won't order from them anymore and likely won't go into the restaurant again when I'm in the area because of this repeat experience. If you can't fulfill delivery orders on a Wednesday evening get out the remote order business and off Uber Eats. Stick to your walk in restaurant service, cuz the rest of your service sucks! THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN I'VE EVER HAD! PERIOD. I was in town for business and was staying at the Hyatt Regency downtown. I decided to walk to The Eagle which was about a good 15 minute walk. It just so happened to be the Cincinnati Reds opening day so it was great to be out and about during all the festivities. I walked in and of course the restaurant was packed but because I was solo I was able to find seating at the bar. I ordered the bourbon punch which was awesome. It was a great introductory bourbon drink for someone who prefer their alcoholic beverages on the sweeter side. 10/10 would definitely order again! Next I ordered the 1/4 chicken plate with fries. Let me tell you, I was blown away. The fries were perfectly seasoned and accompanied by some amazing aioli dipping sauce. Literal perfection. Now, the chicken. Y'all. I was born and raised predominantly in the south and let me tell you, this is some of the best chicken -- crispy, golden skin on the outside packed with flavor in every bite. We decided to order in since it was so cold out, however we still had to go out and get the food lol. We chose this location based off some of the reviews and the food looked amazing. We placed our order to go, we both had the breast and wing with the mac & cheese and greens, I also ordered the cornbread. The order said it would be ready by 9:30. When I arrived at the time my food was already bagged and waiting for me. Got it back to the room and the the food was still hot and delicious. The only issue that keeps this review from being a 5 star is they didn't put any cutlery or napkins in the bag. My Wife and I started ordering more from them during Covid-19 times. They have a good online order system for prepaid orders, as well as order by phone. Both of us came to the conclusion that while the chicken is great, the sides not so much. Their mac and cheese used to be luxurious and more gourmet, with a mix of different cheeses. Now it is a-OK kids meal. The slaw is really simple and bland. The succotash comes with copious amount of Italian seasoning that makes it bitter. It is also very inconvenient that the sides to go always come in aluminum bowls, obviously not microwave-safe. While I get that you can pop them in the oven for a nicer quality, I find myself wanting a fast microwaveable comfort during the week, when I most often take away food. The chicken remains one of the best in the area. The meat, not only the breading, is well seasoned and moist. Their hot honey is good for dipping. Went to the eagle for a girls brunch. We each orders the drumsticks and then shared the sides. The chicken was great! I really enjoyed the flavor, the hot honey is also a nice touch. Unfortunately the sides weren't what I was expecting. The sweet potatoes could of been a bit sweeter and the greens were lacking flavor. I did enjoy the Mac and cheese though. I mean, the BEST!!! I cannot emphasize this enough how much I love this fried chicken sandwich. Let me review for a second- this place is incredible. The atmosphere & the service is top-tier, and it's worth waiting if you can't get a reservation. I would suggest walking around OTR and shop at the local businesses in the area while you wait! As for the food, literally everything on the menu is absolutely wonderful and fairly priced, I would suggest trying everything as some point. I opened the bag but there was no utensils for me to eat the food so I called back and they said they only gave them to you if you requested them unbelievable. Who would've thought, I would find the BEST MAC-N-CHEESE IN MY LIFE here in Cincinnati, OH? I ate at one of the outdoor tables, and got the famous mac n cheese and fried chicken. Didn't really expect much, but I saw how many good reviews it had, so I thought this must be decent. I was so wrong. This was the BEST MAC-N-CHEESE. It was super cheesy, crusty, and there was some kind of vegetables/ingredients in it that had a crunchy surprise texture to it. Green onions? I don't think so. I couldn't figure out what that was. But it was very tasty, creamy and cheesy. Ugh. Soooo good. The fried chicken was crispy, it was a bit sweet on the breading, but added the hot honey to it, I was surprised that it tasted better.
