First time visiting Cincinnati -- came here to The Eagle OTR as Pepp & Dolores nearby was full, with a waitlist. Found free street parking nearby, thankfully. I ordered immediately as I was late at 9 PM for dinner. I got the three piece dark with sides of Mac and cheese which came with biscuit, and green beans. Everything tasty enough, and the fried chicken was juicy and honestly fine without the honey. The spicy honey which was in a glass ramekin, was pretty good. As oft said, "I put that sh*t on everything -- so I tried it with the Mac and cheese and it was noticeably better. All in all, pretty good experience here and will rate it 3.5/5 overall. read more

Let me say this, the food was delicious. Once we got seated, our waitress was amazing. Everything was great at the table .... BUT... ... the bar situation, that was an experience that I haven't had in a long time. My girlfriend was in from out of town, and I really wanted her to try the chicken sandwich. We were there at a busy time, 630 on a Saturday. We were waiting for our table reservations, but we were told that the bar was first come first serve, so we decided to take 10 minutes and try our luck. We stayed back about 10 feet and tried not to be annoying, but watched the bar to see if anyone was finishing up. We could tell the people on the corner were close to being done. But, alas, in the 10 minutes that we gave it, they didn't complete, so we decided to leave and come back. No big deal. When we did come back, let's say another 15 minutes or so, the two people that were on the corner had moved to different seats along the bar, their chairs were gone. This is when it turned weird. There were a few bar chairs in front of the table immediately in front of the bar, and we asked those people if it was OK if we use those chairs, they told us " we were told to say these could not be moved." Like for one, that's kind of a weird policy to tell your customers to tell other customers, they cannot remove the chairs...okay... So we stood at the bar where these chairs existed before...and waited, and waited, and waited.....for the bartender to acknowledge our existence. I mean, he obviously knew we were there earlier, if he didn't want anyone to sit there anymore all he had to say was "hey I'm sorry, it's too busy we don't want people sitting there anymore.." or anyTHING to acknowledge our existence. Finally, he discovered us, and then there was a really awkward back-and-forth about whether or not, we could sit there. We asked politely "can we move some chairs back here, or What's the situation??? And then he just tried to gaslight us that there were never chairs there, implying that we were insane. I don't know. The Eagle receives the GOAT AWARD today!! After my Door Dasher failed to follow the directions provided in the notes/instructions I had to pick up my order. I ran out without shoes, not quite appropriately dressed and the staff (in the middle of rush), SHOUTOUT SYDNEY, ran my food out to me. This was absolutely so so kind. The food was amazing! I've been wanting to try The Eagle for the past 3 years and finally had a chance to do so this past Sunday. It was everything I expected and more. We shared the homemade spoonbread which was tasty. Hubby had the shrimp and grits and I the quarter chicken dark with mac and cheese and collard greens. The chicken was absolutely amazing (not too greasy) and the accompanying spicy honey was drinkable! The collards were also delicious although a tad overcooked. I devoured their rich/creamy mac and cheese. The only thing lacking at The Eagle is a banana pudding or red velvet cake I'll be back for sure! read more

This place continues to be a treat every time I go even though I usually only end up going a couple of times per year. I do realize it is a chain but so far they have nailed all the prerequisites of what they need to be a successful chain in my opinion. Definitely recommended to get reservations the day before as I don't believe they take reservations the day of. Ambiance is friendly and warm and service has always been really good! The food is the big highlight though. The food here is just plain amazing. The main course of chicken to all of the side dishes they have. The spoon bread to the sweet potatoes to the mac and cheese, it's all good. It is definitely one of the big reasons we go there. Looking forward to coming back again soon! Okay, maybe it's because I'm from the South, but this "southern-style" restaurant just didn't really hit for me. It was packed on a Saturday night, so we opted to sit at the bar. Our bartender was really sweet and did a great job taking care of my family and answering all of our questions. We ordered a whole chicken and a fried chicken BLT with mac and cheese, biscuits, and fries. The sandwich... just wasn't fun at all. The chicken was dry and bland, and there was an off flavor that I think came from the bacon. My family was sharing the whole chicken, so I tried that too, and honestly, that was actually good. I definitely wish I had skipped the sandwich. The sides were all solid, but my favorite by far was the fries. Probably because they were herby and came with an aioli. My wife and I were in Cincinnati for a long weekend and we had BBQ across the street from this establishment and it had a large line going out the door and we decided we had to try the next day. The trolley runs very close to this fried chicken mainstay and I walked into a packed place and we sat at the bar. There are some tvs along the wall that have sports on and a great beer list. I ordered and IPA and a fried chicken BLT sandwich that the bartender (Who was amazing) highly recommended. He was right! The sandwich came out quickly and the fried chicken patty was perfect and melded with the bacon and fresh tomato and greens. It was so good! Reservations must not mean anything to this place. We were seated nearly 30 minutes after our pre arranged reservation. I find this completely unnaceptable for an establishment of such high regard. HOWEVER, the manager at the time kindly gave our starters for free due to the long waits. Fortunately the food was excellent and exceeded previous expectations. Wow is this place good. I'm going to go in order of my experience that I had at the restaurant. So firstly, the service. I ordered a mocktail and a gentleman came and told me (so incredibly nicely) that they unfortunately didn't have the jam in the mocktail ready, which I was totally okay with, but momentarily came back with my drink!! I was so pleasantly surprised with the way I was approached about it as well as the drink itself. Now let's talk about the good stuff - the food. I got the hush puppies and omg were those fire. I also got the fried chicken sandwich. Don't even think twice about this one. Not too heavy and just the right amount of toppings. I know I said don't think twice about the sandwich but also don't think at all about the mac and cheese. Just get it. That'll all I'll say about that :) the southern chopped salad was also great. We weren't sure how we'd like the green beans and black eyed peas in it but all the elements complimented each other so well! I love going to dinner with friends at the Eagle OTR! Is the perfect place to have a picnic style dinner, and you know the quality of the food is going be great every time. When I go, I usually order dark meat for my chicken, then order a good amount of sides to share. I love the biscuits and surprisingly the sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top is great too. And if you know, you know, sweet potatoes and macaroni go together so well. When I think about the actual restaurant itself over all the times I've went the only bad thing I can say is sometimes there are long wait times. It's usually at night time and especially when there's an event going on. I'm not sure about the reservation policy if they take reservations or what but maybe that's something I can be more proactive about. Other than that, the staff is always great. It's a nice old Timey modern country feel. You can't really go wrong with the Eagle. read more

Went to The Eagle at 3:30pm on a Saturday, expecting a mostly empty restaurant, but they were jumping! The decor was warm and cozy, maybe a little dated with the pallet wood ceiling. Our server was fantastic! Very friendly and he quickly went over the whole menu telling us what their most popular dishes and drinks were and what he recommended. My husband ordered the fried chicken with a side of mac & cheese. I had already eaten, so just got a small kale salad. He loved his chicken and I snuck a bite of his mac&cheese which was very good as well. My salad came dressed with a cider vinaigrette that was overly tart. The other ingredients were good but the dressing was so acidic, I couldn't eat much of the salad. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. I plan to go again and try a different dish. read more

The staff really is great, the servers are very thorough on explaining the menu to those who are coming for the first time, we enjoyed listening to our server go through the menu with the table next to us on our most recent trip. For the two of us, we ordered 1/2 chicken, fries, spoon bread, Mac n cheese, and grits. Everything always hits the spot! This was our first time getting the grits and they were phenomenal. If we had an easier time picking sides we could eat more chicken because it's incredible, but we love the sides too much to narrow it down. Our server (I believe his name was Chandler??) brought drinks and helped with my menu questions. Lovely human! I went with the fried chicken breast sandwich, which I must say is one of the best I've ever had, and I am a chicken snob. The mayo that comes with the sandwich--get extra, so good! I also ordered the fries, and they were speckled with beautiful earthy green herbs and were accompanied by a marvelous aioli. My son went with the spicy chicken dip (comes with tortilla chips) and man, was it spicy!!! He loved it! I can't recommend this place enough. My son took me to The Eagle on Sunday. We didn't have reservations but were treated very kindly and asked to wait for a table. We were seated within 15 minutes which I thought was great. We both had the Chicken and 3 and were delighted. This is the most flavorsome chicken I have ever had the good fortune to eat! The mac and cheese, greens and biscuit were great. The only miss in my eyes were the mashed potatoes but taste is taste and mine might not be the same as yours. Everything was hot and delicious and our server was great. He was efficient and helpful. She was completely dismissive and unattractive to our needs. I mean at least pretend to like your job. She rushed us to order then pretty much abandoned us the whole time. It wasn't even busy. We had to ask for silverware AFTER our food came. She never came back to check on us. It was like she tried her best to avoid coming our way. Very strange behavior. She never even came to refill our water! We had to ask for more water! Terrible service!! Plates piled up on our table and she didn't even come to clear them as more food was coming. We sat outside because there was a 2 hour wait for indoor seating on a Saturday evening. We were seated right away so that was great. Our server was Jason, also great. We had the fried chicken BLT. Chicken was tender and juicy, but the sandwich was dry so we requested more mayo and that helped a lot. We also had the burnt end Mac and cheese. This was the star. A couple pieces of the burnt ends were not as tender as others but the flavors were good and the mac and cheese sauce had a nice bite, probably from something like a Gouda. Been wanting to visit the Eagle for the six years I've lived in the area, and it just never happened until this week. My brother was in town, and we had a reservation for later in the evening for Ghost Baby. We took a group of 9 (with a reservation) and were seated immediately when our group arrived. I ordered the Chicken BLT Sandwich and my wife went for the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. We also split an order of fries. Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) was delivered 10, maybe 15 minutes, later. 9 entrees and 4 or 5 sides--fries, cornbread, etc.--and 2 or 3 drinks that were ordered late. Fast service is always appreciated, but it was almost scary fast. I thought the fries were delightful. Well-salted, but also covered in a swath of herbs that made them extra tasty and unique, plus a garlic aioli that was good as well. My sandwich was good, but it didn't blow me away. The chicken wasn't very crispy, but had a well-seasoned breading, there were fresh greens and tomato, and a good italian bread. But I could not taste the avocado relish or the jalapeno honey mayo, which I was looking forward to! I didn't check to see if it was accidentally left off or just a small dollop, but the sauces being unnoticeable also meant the sandwich was a bit dry. I ended up dipping the sandwich in the aioli from the fries, and ended up still very much enjoying my meal, but it could have been a bit better. I think the consensus at the table was that everything was good, but wasn't as outstanding as we'd hoped. The service was generally very good, though about an hour after we'd arrived, we noticed several servers glancing and pointing our way. We had mostly finished our food, but were enjoying conversation and it's not like we were overstaying our welcome by several hours--it had literally only been an hour for a large party. They never asked us to leave or anything, we just felt a bit uncomfortable because we weren't sure if they were trying to subtly usher us out quickly. We paid our checks and ended up leaving probably about 90 minutes from when we initially arrived. Some parts were good (Mac and cheese), but did not fully meet expectations (chicken sandwich). 3/5 food: The Mac and cheese was worth the meal (words I never thought I would say). It was served in a hot cast iron pan, so don't burn yourself. The touted chicken was near flavorless and the toasted bread had a stale mouthfeel (yuck!) and it was barely warm at serving. I bake bread so maybe I am picky. There were a few good bites when I got the sauce and where the bread was crispy from being toasted enough , but the huge stack of sandwich was hard to eat by knife and fork, and hard to eat by jamming it in my mouth. Maybe they should have served the sandwich first instead of everything at once? 3.5/5 Service: they were helpful for first timers, but also a little too slick for my liking, and other service workers were not as attentive at some points (when I first walked in, when I asked where the bathroom was, when I needed a drink refill) 4/5 Ambiance: nicer bar/ restaurant feel. I ordered the BBQ Pork Burnt Ends as an appetizer and two pieces of chicken with collard greens as my side. First, the burnt ends were tasty. The sauce was sweet and enhanced the flavor of the meat. When my dinner came, I started with the side dish, as I always do. If a restaurant takes the time to create delicious side dishes, you know the main course is going to be great as well. My collard greens were good, but a bit under-seasoned for my tastebuds. I would have preferred more pepper, but I can't ding the rating over a personal preference. The chicken itself was underwhelming. I give it a 3.5 rating while the appetizer and side dish were a solid 4.0. The service was good despite the place being packed with more guests waiting outside. Dark quart was two drums and a thigh. The meat was so flavorful and served with Tabasco Honey that was frankly outstanding. This is a popular & bustling restaurant that feels more like a rowdy bar. It was definitely the party place of the block, with a long line of people waiting to get in. The service I received was good -- I ordered take-out electronically (if you try to phone in an order the message redirects you to their computer service), but it turned out to be easy and efficient. When I got there, they already had my food bagged up -- you just wait in the same line the dine-in patrons wait, and when it's your turn they just give it to you, as you already paid on line. And as for the food -- well, the star of the show here is the chicken. I ordered a fourth of a chicken, dark meat, and it was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, with just a thin layer of coating. It had a little heat to it, which seemed to fit the "Southern-fried" nature of the restaurant. I ordered the spoon bread -- i.e. a large helping of cornbread. It's normally served in a large skillet, but with takeout, it's served in an aluminum pie tin. It is absolutely amazing -- very moist, finely ground, and delicious. The grits were also very good. It's flavor was more complex. There was heat, but also a lot of herbal overtones. The collards were just okay, and seemed to have the same flavor of heat as the chicken and the grits. The hushpuppies were a miss -- they lacked the flavor that the spoonbread had, and all I tasted was the oil it was fried in. All in all, however, it was consistently delicious stick-to-your ribs fried & Southern food, made in generous portions with pretty good consistency, and just enough heat to give it a kick! read more
