Extremely overpriced. I paid over $80 for 2 people for lunch buffet with limited options. You can go elsewhere for a better buffet. I understand they mark up the prices because it is one of the only Indian spots in this business-affluent area. The service was good. They took a while to grab our empty plates but they were accommodating in bringing us some plain naan and sodas. Ambiance is great-- it's very clean and pretty on the inside. A little bit of a small space so it gets pretty packed for lunch. I was wanting to try the regular menu items. But that is not available during the lunch buffet. read more

Food tasted ok - I don't eat much Indian food so don't know if I'm a good judge. But I like the variety of flavors and offerings for dishes. We went for their Sunday lunch buffet after reading several good reviews and were genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, the experience was mediocre at best. The variety of items was fairly limited, and nothing really stood out. The fried fish, in particular, was lukewarm, which immediately took away from the experience. Overall, the food lacked the freshness and flavor you'd expect, especially for a buffet. The only positive for me was the courteous staff. However, with the 20% gratuity already included ( which was very surprising as 2 out of 6 ppl were kids under 7) and the total self serve buffet cost being what it was, the quality and overall value simply didn't justify the price. Especially in the Bay Area, where there are several buffet options that offer far better food and experience, this one fell short. Sadly, I won't be returning. read more

Recently tried their buffet and absolutely loved it. They had 2-3 vegetarian apps, 3-4 veg curries, 2-3 non-veg curries, 2 desserts, juice, papad. We loved the apps especially dahi vada. And veggie curries were delicious. The naan they served was so soft that we asked for an extra. Lychee juice was good and desserts were usual. We didn't try non-veg food so can't comment on that. Overall the food was pretty tasty and good. The staff is nice and they clear out your table quite often, and they make sure to refill your water often. The place is nice and clean. I tried the second wife for the first time and it is a pretty good spot for Indian food. The hours aren't accurate on Google Maps as they are closed for 1.5 hours between lunch and dinner, but we were allowed to eat anyway thankfully. The lighting inside the restaurant is nice and lots of natural light and a spacious feel inside. The food for lunch was in a buffet, and everything was good overall. The kale pakora was surprisingly really good. The papadum was a bit oily and the batura had run out though. The garlic chili mushroom was a unique item and was good. Service is great and they kept bringing over naan. The naan was cooked well and I enjoyed the paneer a lot. They have lots of vegetarian and non veg items at the buffet. read more

I think I may have found my new favorite Indian spot in the South Bay! The food is delicious but the service is a little slow. I came here for dinner and only notice one man serving the whole restaurant. I felt super bad watching him greet customers, drop off menus, bring out food, and doing everything. They definitely need more staff members to help. But overall I think our server did a great job managing everything! Their butter chicken and saag paneer were so good!! I ended up order 4 dishes and a mango lassi. Each dish was bomb and worth the wait! I think I'll come back for their lunch buffet at some point this week. Typical North Indian style buffet catering to a westernized palate. Indian buffet item regulars like colored tandoori chicken, sweet butter chicken, paneer based gravy curry all make an appearance here. With the huge influx of regional and more authentic Indian restaurants in the bayarea it's difficult to appreciate these kind of places. Restaurant itself is new and the serveware are all gleaming in gold color. But the spread is not very extensive. I sampled almost every item on the buffet, though they were all palatable and relatively decent, nothing stood out. I missed biryani as well. Naan was the best item in my opinion, it was smeared with butter and served piping hot at the tableside. But not one of the curries made a good accompaniment for the bread, they were all very sweet or bland and flavorless. Surprisingly they had bitter gourd as well. They couldn't tame this difficult vegetable properly but nonetheless I appreciated the fact that they attempted serving it! The pakora was a bit stale and rest of the dishes were uninspiring as well. For desserts they had rice pudding and sooji halwa, the halwa was overly sweet and needed more cooking. read more

Place is clean and they give you naan to eat with the curry. The downside is that most options here have spice so kids can't really enjoy the food here. We were there yesterday at 1:00 pm. Had the buffet, called ahead and confirmed the price, about $25.00 per person. The restaurant is clean and very well laid out. The serving staffs were very nice. The selection at this buffet is small, we tried everything, most were mediocre. The food were either bland or way too salty and way too sweet. We had to drink lots of water when we got home. The bills were a bill were surprising. They add 15% service charge, we did not know and when signed for the bill, they asked for tips, we did not know and tipped again. Very deceptive. This classy lunch buffet is the place to taste delicious Indian food and comes with some of the best service I've ever had. Each of the more than a dozen dishes here tasted hot and flavorful. Meats in the entrees were tender and moist while vegetables tasted fresh and crisp. Upon returning to our table, we had cold water and steaming hot naan brought to us. I savored the sweet and sour eggplant. The service here is professional and gracious. They were immediately attentive with taking empty plates or servicing the buffet. I was finally able to visit and try The Second Wife today for lunch. The place looked clean and well maintained! I was immediately greeted and escorted to a table upon entering. I was told that they have the buffet available for lunch which was fine with me. They had so many items offered for their buffet. I am not an expert in Indian cuisine so many of the dishes were unfamiliar. I tried mostly the rice and chicken dishes such as Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken and Chicken Tandoori. They also offered Fish Fry which I found quite delicious! The fish fillet was coated in a panko like breading and was seasoned beautifully! It was perfectly cooked! I'll have to try it again on my next visit! The buffet was a little over $23. They give complimentary water. Other drinks are available for an extra price! The customer service was great! The staff was always available to help. I enjoyed my visit so much that I have no choice but to give The Second Wife 5 stars! I look forward to my next visit! read more

The buffet is of course self service but they do bring fresh naan to the table which is nice. The seating is plenty and the restaurant was clean. I went back today for some chai which did not live up to their buffet. The cup was overly hot without a sleeve, and it wasn't strained well so half of the drink was gritty with tea leaves and cardamom. I would say it's worth going back for the lunch buffet! read more

I actually thoroughly enjoyed this place's buffet mate. The naan is actually pretty crisp and moist. Good stuff. All of the meats are cooked till tender but still moist. The variety in the vegetarian options is high. Good spice. The butter chicken pieces are large though in terms of flavor I've had much better. Their goat is actually much better than other place's goat. The vegetarian options were all good with some even being really great. You can either get room temperature water infused with fruits and herbs, bottled water to or lychee juice as part of the buffet. The place itself is super clean. No issues with my plates or utensils The workers, which are just the owners and their servers were actually really attentive. Adding this together with the salad greens, the cauliflower, the paneer, lentil stew, creamed spinach, fritters, and potatoes, there turned out to be more variety for vegetarians than usual in downtown San Jose. This new Indian buffet with a clean, understated dining room featured a variety of flavorful dishes, starting with appetizers like Dahi Bhalla (lentil fritters soaked in yogurt and topped with chutneys), little crispy cocktail samosas with mint and tamarind chutneys, and pan-fried beetroot cutlets. The Fish Amritsari were boneless fish fillets fried in a spiced batter, and the Dal Tadka was a creamy yellow lentil stew. The mains included Vegetable and Chicken Biryanis, Tandoori Chicken, Mushroom Matar (mushroom with peas in a spiced sauce), Butter Paneer and Butter Chicken (paneer cubes and boneless tandoori chicken in a creamy tomato-based curry), and Goat Curry (bone-in goat cubes in an onion curry). At the table came freshly-baked tandoori naan and tandoori roti (white and whole wheat flatbreads)--perfect for eating with the curries! New indian restaurant in north San Jose offering a lunch buffet. Good selection of dishes. In my opinion, a lunch buffet is not complete unless they offer a goat curry dish, and this new buffet does. There's some good indian buffets in south bay already and i have a rotation of establishments I go to on my lunch break during lunch. My gauge to whether to include a new place to my rotation is the quality of the goat curry and of course, the tandoori chicken. Goat curry was tender and flavorful. The tandoori chicken was just okay and nothing to write home about. With that said, may add to my rotation on occasion after one more visit. One comment to this establishment is that they should offer fresh cut chilies (serrano or jalapeño) and onions. Some love to have chilies and onions with their meal, especially the goat curry. Other establishments have chillies and onions as standard. I want to give this place another try to fully evaluate their customer service, which, during my first visit, was not that good. Their server ignored us the whole time and had to call him over to pick up our 3 stacks of used plates and to give us another pitcher of water. Ambiance is good and bathrooms are large. Parking was no issue (possibly because only a few people were there when my wife and I ate). read more

This is my second time here. I was impressed by the first time when I had dinner here. The spices were spot on and the host was very nice on explaining the dishes as well as the health benefits. I came back for the buffet which is$23.95. Well worth it! Everything was great, from infused water to the Indian music in the background, to forest wallpaper giving the right visual environment. And the food! I love buffets in general but this one specifically. There was a nice variety of vegetarian dishes and meat dishes. They were served in nice chafing servers. The Lentil balls were amazing! The meat dishes were great. On the day we were there there was chili chicken, tandoori chicken, couple other chicken dishes and a goat dish. I believe this restaurant is very appropriately named The Second Wife. Much like the expression, it is flashy, friendly, and easy on the eyes--but struggles with the basics and is surprisingly expensive to keep happy. The place itself is spotless, the ambiance is stylish, and the staff is warm and welcoming. Sadly, the food didn't live up to the charm. We tried the buffet, and to our surprise, most of the dishes--both vegetarian and non-vegetarian--were lacking not just spice, but flavor and even salt. Indian food doesn't need heat to shine, but it does need seasoning, and many of the curries felt flat and underwhelming. The bhatura deserves a special mention--it was fresh and well made--but unfortunately, it was swimming in curries that had very little personality. In the Bay Area, where excellent Indian food is abundant, this was a letdown, especially given the price. If they don't work on the fundamentals, this second wife may find her marriage with patrons headed toward an amicable--but inevitable--divorce. read more

We were assured that we could order anything on the menu so we went for it.
