The problems with Edison have very little to do with it being new and a lot to do with poor management. They ran out of Diet Pepsi before lunch. I had the Light Switch which is suppose to have prosciutto on top. Instead it was a thin slice of gristle. A friend dined there this week. They were out of her beer, out of the side she ordered and her appetizer arrived way before her beverage. She was told they were out of her side, so she changed her order then her original side was delivered. The manager stopped to ask how our meal was and we replied that it was kind of okay and he just walked on to the next table. read more

I'm sure I'll update this after the kinks are worked out. I cannot in good faith give a positive review at this time. Service was EXTREMELY slow. It took nearly 15 minutes to be served drinks after being engaged by three servers. We ordered the calamari, which was underdone. Edison burger was cooked to perfection, but the tots were just...tots; no flare and barely salted. I've heard there is a connection to Zepplins which I can't confirm. If so, there's a long ways to go. read more

We had decided to wait until they got the kinks worked out that comes from opening a new venue. We stopped by on a Friday night after 6:30 and we were seated immediately. The parking lot was very full, so this was a nice surprise. Our server came over very quickly and took our drink order. As we perused the menu it became very evident that with the hardwood on the walls and floor and the open ceiling there wasn't much to absorb sound. Add in the loudest women in Cedar Rapids that were having a scream-fest in the other dining room and it was hard to communicate without raising our own voices. As for the food, it was average. The prices were in line with any other sit down establishment and there weren't many highs or lows with flavors. The brushetta was not well received at our table did not like the sweetness that the balsamic vinegar had. Our table had a variety of sandwiches including the cheese steak and burgers. One really nice thing was the dinner salad. It had plenty of lettuce and veggies and the bleu cheese dressing is made in house. The noise from the other room continued throughout the entire meal and even the manager came over to apologize for the volume. He did state that they were putting some sound absorbing tile in. I have visited The Edison a few times now and have never been disappointed! The restaurant is set up in a casual-fine dining feel. The staff are always very friendly, and the food is worth the drive! We asked for Steak Frites and fries we'd read positive reviews about them, but they were no longer on the menu. The owner quickly said it was no problem to make them for us. The service was really bad at lunch. One person. When we got the food it was barely warm. The waitress didn't bother asking us about our meal and when she did it was, well we can warm it up. It was a 17.00 dollar lunch that was horrible. I maybe ate 1/4 off it. YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Great ambiance, great service (second time around), terrible food. I first checked out The Edison about a year ago and we were not impressed. My husband got a burger and I got a Rueben, both were really mediocre and on top of it the service was incredibly slow because they were hosting a Christmas party. We recently received a gift card so we figured we should give The Edison another shot. We didn't have to wait for a table and our waitress was very kind and prompt - so zero complaints on the service. Our biggest issue was with the food/drinks (the whole reason you go to a restaurant). We both ordered cocktails, but my whiskey sour was significantly watered down, which confused me because the whiskey I requested was cheap so it seemed unnecessary. For our appetizer we ordered the stuffed mushrooms, and while they were cooked just fine - the ingredient combination was weird. They were stuffed with cheese/red pepper/onion, but the ratio made it taste like the mushrooms were just topped with Italian salsa and cheese. My husband did get the soup of the day which was cheddar broccoli, and while it was a little bland for me, he did enjoy it. For entrees, I ordered the special for tonight which was spaghetti and meatballs. It was a very basic spaghetti sauce but the meatballs were good, so all in all it wasn't a bad meal. My husband ordered the jambalaya pasta and after the first bite he mentioned that something was off about the flavor but he couldn't put his finger on it. After trying his pasta I told him it tasted like "seafood with chipotle sauce", he confirmed the weird flavor was that it was way too smoky to be a pasta sauce (especially with the shrimp in it). Normally he just powers through because he's hungry, but he couldn't take another bite. We ended up sharing my spaghetti because the portion size was adequate enough. Our poor waitress could recognize that we didn't like the food when she saw my plate was half-full and his plate was entirely full and we asked for the check with no boxes. She was very kind and tried to make it up to us but we knew it wasn't her fault, plus we were using a gift card so it's not like we were losing money on this. I know a gastro-pub shouldn't be expected to have perfect food, but the flavor of almost all the food we tried here was so off and did not go well together. Still confused on why the cocktail was watered down, but since that was just a one-time thing I don't want to say this is something they do on a regular basis. At the end of the day we really wanted to like The Edison because we love the ambiance and our service the second time was excellent, but nothing we've eaten has made us want to come back. A lot of the reviews mentioned how good the prime rib is, so if you do go there maybe try that? read more

Had a going away lunch for a colleague and was excited to finally try this place. Decor is pleasing to the eye, and service was good considering the large group we had assembled. They have a few rooms for large groups, which is nice, so you don't have to be in the regular dining area, and your experience can be more personal. On to the main attraction, the food! I had the fish tacos. The tilapia was seasoned and cooked well, and while they were good and I ate every last bite, I still have a few notes that I think could have elavated the dish a little more. First, I'll say I love that the toppings came on the side. Then you can control how much of each item you put on, exercise caution with the sauce, and it will make your nose run from the spice. Having said that, these tacos need a slaw. The toppings that come with are shredded carrot, pico de gallo, and garlic chili sauce. I think lettuce would bring the whole thing down, but a slaw could add a little more cool crunch and perhaps help calm the spice from the chili sauce. Also, I will add that the side is rice, but plain rice, they definitely could add flavor to the rice, and really make this whole meal come together. Would I go back? Yes. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food and I saw a lot of things I wanted to return to try!!! read more

I have a mixed review for Edisons. I give the atmosphere a 5 star cool place, very inviting. The food I can only give a 2 the night we were there. The flavor of the brisket sandwich was outstanding as well as the tator tots BUT they come out lukewarm at best and the wait staff did not come to check on things for a good period of time for me to see if they could reheat. Could have been an isolated case and I will go back for a second chance to give another review. I would still recommend the pub for its atmosphere and great drink prices. read more

My parents brought a $25 gift certificate and were denied using it after eating their meal. The "manager" told them it was expired although there was no expiration date on it. They had bought it around Christmas time in 2020 from the Corridor website and wanted to redeem it in March 2021. The man who refused to honor the certificate first said that he spoke with the manager who informed him it could not be honored. After my mom asked to speak to the manager, the man went on to say he WAS the manager... I hope that $25 was worth losing them as customers as well as all our local friends and family who will not support such a business. read more

This is an update on a very poor rating I've previously gave The Edison. That review was based on their first day of business (I didn't realize it was opening day). That day had some issues. I went back today for business lunch meeting. Everything was fabulous. They were super busy but the service was fast & professional. The food came out quickly and was very good. Just the right amount contact from the servers. If you had a less the great experience early on at The Edison I'd recommend that you give them another chance. Glad I did. read more

I ate there yesterday with my son and duaghter. The decor fit in with the name, spartan, modernistic with the cute little light bulb salt & pepper shakers on each table. There were 2 menues, a luncheon and a fuller, more robust offering that was maybe the full day menu. We chose off the latter. I had the cioppino, my son had the penne pasta and my daughter had the steak and frites. My cioppino was good but a tad salty for my taste, the penne pasta was very good and the steak was cooked as ordered but came already cut up . I would reccomend this place just make sure you are really hungry as you receive big portions. read more

Have been to Edison's several times in the last month or so. The last time we had a group of 9 people and everyone enjoyed the food selection and the beer selection. Food has a great selection to please many different appetites. The beer selection has many of the local craft beers which is always a big hit with this group. read more

The food was great. Our table had the brisket sandwich, lasagne (huge), grilled cheese, fish tacos (yuuuum) and chicken Marsala. Fries were crispy and battered. Slower pace for service, but the food was awesome. Inside decor vastly improved since previous establishment. Will be back! read more

Finally was able to try this new establishment out! Love the decor - everything Edison themed (including lightbulb shaped salt and pepper shakers) and modern industrial feel. Tonight there was no wait at 5:15 on a Saturday night. The room we sat in was kind of noisy - the noise seemed to reverberate off the walls. We ate during happy hour (which is EVERYDAY from 3-6 and ALL day Sunday)... I went with the house red wine for $3! Steal!! I also had the fried chicken sandwich which was topped with chipotle mayo, lettuce, onion, and pickles. You also get to choose your side - which I chose house salad with French dressing. The salad was very fresh and full of mixed greens, shredded carrots, and cherry tomatoes. The chicken sandwich looked huge, however it is pounded flat so it looks larger than it actually is. The breading was perfect, I do feel though that the sandwich is missing a little zest or spice to it... maybe add more sauce?? All in all the service was great and the food was tasty, next time I want to try the cocktails as they look scrumptious!! read more

Poor all around. Host stand took forever. Slow service. Walking into the door is welcoming. However the host stand looked frustrated and frazzled. Putting our name on the list to wait for a "hour and fifteen minute wait" seemed somewhat acceptable for a new, busy establishment at prime dinner time on a Saturday night. As we sat waiting to get the text, it was clearly noticable that tables were finishing up and exiting but new tables weren't being sat. After witnessing the same lady walk up to the host stand two separate times to complain that there were tables open and cleaned - I decided to do a sneak walk thru of the place and check things out. We continued to wait. And wait. And also notice that the hostess were grabbing the rolled silverware out of a weaved basket. It seems that management would realize that there should be a better spot for their customers' silverware than on the floor. We continued to stick it out. About 15 minutes later they then started seating tables at those open spots. We eventually were sat at 7:37pm - server didnt greet for another 7 minutes. My fiancee ordered 2 Jack n cokes stating "miswell order 2 because it'll take a while". I received my water almost immediately and he didn't receive his drinks until 7:58pm. 20 minutes to finally receive drinks. The food runner attempted to deliver another tables food at ours. We politely denied this food and it got dropped off at its final destination behind me. Our food was delivered - my burger plate didnt have any condiments, nor the requested veggies (sauteed onions, lettuce & tomato). My requested ranch was also missing from the plate. As hungry as I was, I started on my fries. Veggies got delivered and I noticed I needed to use my fry ketchup for my burger. This was continuing the snowball effect. I politely ordered more water but only the bill was dropped off. We paid up and that will be the last visit to The Edison. read more

My wife and I wanted to try this new local restaurant and heard mixed reviews but wanted to see how it was for ourselves. The friends that discouraged us were right! Got there just after 9pm (about an hour before closing). We were told it was all right to order food. We did not get our food until 9:45 which would be okay however, the staff was working in a way that was pushing us out right at 10pm. They turned off TVs, closed the taps, and delivered our check... pushing us out. The bar tender was delayed in realizing the affect of their behavior and asked if we would like the TV back on and tried to reassure us we did not have to inhale our food and chug our beer however, it was to late! My wife and I each left half of a beer each (we very rarely do this) and my wife left a good portion of her meal. Don't plan to go back. read more

Our food was delicious, our cocktails delightful and the service outstanding!! They had a Father's Day special that was unsurpassed by any restaurant in the city!! The temperature of the restaurant was way too humid and hot but the atmosphere and theme was very positive. The appetizers beat our table's beer which felt very odd to our group. Yet out main courses took about 35 minutes (after our appitizers had been cleared) The waitress seemed very inexperienced. Our calamari appetizer was on par with Oliver garden and not very exciting. The spiniach and artichoke dip was very good. There was at least 5 things on the menu that they "ran out of", but what came out of the kitchen differed from what was expected, according to the waitress. The sandwich portions were very small but the food tasted average. Overall I would probably not return. Much better options in the area. read more

My boyfriend and I loved the decor. We shared the mussels as an appetizer and were very pleased with the flavor. I had the salmon and he tried the jambalaya. I've been there a couple times first time was amazing quick service amazing food. This last time I was there my fiancé and I walked in waited about 5 minutes for someone to come over and seat us while multiple staff members noticed us made eye contact and continued to talk amongst them selves. Finally someone walked over and sat us. Then after being sat down at a table a server came over to us and took our drink order. We waited about 15 minutes after that never got our drinks or seen the server again so we got up moved to the bar where the bartender did not even acknowledge us so after about 10 minutes we then got up and left. read more

Burgers finally came out charred well done when asked for medium. Asked for a 2nd beer halfway through meal and came out after we were done which is when I provided feedback to manager. read more

Went on Friday for a late lunch just before 1 pm. Drinks took a long time (20 min) to reach our table. Took over an hour for whole experience. Ordered stuffed mushrooms for app and two items off lunch menu. Appetizer portion was very small for $11. Long time for lunch that was luke-warm. Chicken fajita rice bowl was underwhelming - all rice, no fresh chicken or veggies - seemed like precooked/over cooked food being scooped out vs freshly made. Hardly any chicken or veggies-all rice. Our server was good and ambiance was great. Saw several other tables that seemed to be experiencing the same on wait time and disappointment in wait/heat of food. May try again in future as we want to support local businesses. Gave two stars because of the disappointment in taste/portion size of food. read more

The food and signature drinks were likely the best I have had in Iowa. I ordered the Philly Steak; it was a great balance of shaved beef, mushrooms, peppers, and cheese on an expertly toasted bun.
