Really enjoyed our first visit. The place was full so we had to wait a little while for a table, but we didn't mind because the bar was really fun. Bar staff, especially our mixologist Al, were terrific! Inventive craft cocktails, interesting decor, and fun banter with the bar staff. Had such a good time kinda hated to go to our table. Calamari was good, bacon wrapped dates were very tasty! Penne pasta was delicious, jambalaya full of spicy goodness, and black out salad fantastic with grilled steak and blue cheese. Newly opened Pub. Beer selection on tap has something for everyone--pale ales, IPAs, nitro milk stout and a sour. We ordered the Avery White Rascal and the Nitro Milk Stout. Also ordered the Iowa Bruschetta (pic below) and the Light Switch burger. Burger came with lots of fries. Both were delish and a nice switch from the traditional burger and bruschetta. The waitress was fantastic--gave suggestions, was quick to place and retrieve order as well as our ticket. We ate in the bar area which can be noisy but plenty of seating in the restaurant area if you want a quieter meal. Decor depicts the name making it a fun place to hang out. read more

Normally I don't like to post negative reviews on social media. However, the experience we just had has to be shared as we will NEVER GO BACK. We have been to Edison's numerous times now. Typically, the experience is great all around. We had a party of 10 during busy Friday rush and our waitress did a really good job. The food tasted great but then the checks came and everything went downhill... There were a few minor errors and then the issue... Two people in our party split a prime rib entree which was $25. When they ordered it, they were advised it wouldn't be a problem to split but would cost $2 each for the plate split. So $29 total.The checks had $22.50 each on them. When we asked the waitress, she told us she charged the split plate fee but then the owner told her she had to charge more so she added more.... it didn't make sense. She said she would get clarification then a guy came up that we later found out was the owner and said it costs more money than that so I had to charge more.... As we walked out I stopped at the front desk to talk to the manager, I pointed out the two checks and how each party was charged $22.50 when it should've been $14.50 The owner walked up and I tried to explain the situation. As with most businesses who know a thing about customer service, we would be told they were sorry for the mistake and would correct it right away without any issues. This is the complete opposite of what happened. The owner was rude and extremely degrading. Not only did he complain about the waitress saying he was writing her up and taking the money out of her check, he then pointed at one of The guys in the group and said "you own a business so you understand this. You two" (pointing at myself and another female guest - who both own businesses) "just don't get it." Ummm... EXCUSE ME?! This is when I informed him that clearly he doesn't know how to treat his customers and what pretty much guaranteed that no one in our party will EVER return. It wasn't about the $16. It was the principal and good customer service... which apparently Edison's knows nothing about. If I could do zero stars I would. read more

Went about a month ago. Was disappointed in the BBQ Brisket sandwich which was $12. The beef was like it was a thick slice of a tasteless plain chewy roast. Couldn't even chew it, it was so gristly. Waitress didn't return to check on food. We also got hamburger and fries, tasted like something we could cook at home. This week stopped at a local NE meat store who's lunch special was brisket sandwich, so deliciously good, and under $7. Guess where we will not be returning to. When you open a restaurant, be sure to have the food outstanding. We will not be back and will not refer others. read more

We have eaten lunch here twice. The first time a Philly cheese steak and fried chicken sandwich. Both were just so-so. Our second visit I had a dry, over cooked burger and my husband had the brisket sandwich, which he reported was also dry. I didn't really have a chance to mention the burger to the server as she didn't linger long or ask how things were. I might have said "next time I'd order this cooked medium." I stopped in yesterday for the first time on a whim. Decided to get something to go, and settled on the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. Ordered a Moscow Mule and sat outside on the patio while waiting for my order. The mule was well made and super refreshing, and the patio was cozy and inviting with baskets of hanging floral arrangements all around. My order came after about 10 minutes and the aroma coming from the takeout container was amazing. I got to my car and had to take a bite. OH.MY.GOSH. That was the BEST Philly Cheesesteak sandwich I have ever had! It was loaded with flavorful and tender prime rib and veggies, with melted cheese oozing out the sides. I'm not a huge fan of horseradish, but their own sauce was included so I figured I'd better give it a try. What a winning combination! It was not overwhelming and added just the right subtle kick to the sandwich to put it over the top. I raved about this so much to my husband that today I went back and ordered TWO to go! Went here for lunch on a Friday and was very impressed with the atmosphere. We got sat in the room across the hall from the bar. We couldn't quite figure out what was going on, due to the fact that we were the two youngest people in that entire room. That will soon become apparent. The waitress was friendly and fairly attentive but our food was just OK. Not to mention that if you're going to get an Italian beef sandwich, which was the special, the Giardiniera needs to be on point....which this one fell WAY short. Not to mention the fact both my and my lunch date's meals came out lukewarm....at best. When we were about halfway done, the "blue hairs" decided to start wiping off tables and moving them around. Wtf is going on?!?!?!? Another group of "younger" people, actually asked to be moved at this point. As it turns out, this is when they play some "tile" game. The whole thing was weird, to say the least. Before that and I could've easily have stayed for two or three more beers but I'm not gonna sit around and watch a bunch of old ladies play tiles. I just feel bad for the servers because all of those ladies had eaten and now are drinking water and pop, for the most part. Good luck with that tip!!! read more

In town visiting friends and family: Went to grab dinner with my good friend and we checked out The Edison. Our experience was less than satisfactory... there were maybe 3 or 4 other tables and definitely More servers than tables occupied so we figured we'd have great service... that was NOT the case. We arrived at 5:20PM and it took about 10 mins for a server to even come up and get our drink order. We decided to try out a couple cocktails, she ordered a Moscow mule and I ordered a mojito. About 10 mins went by and we finally were able to flag down a server to ask the specials of the day.. our server went MIA. She went on her way and our actual server came back (keep in mind we still hadn't received our drinks and NO ONE ordered cocktails in there just beer or wine so you'd think it would be quicker). We ordered our food. I asked our server if they had gluten free buns for the burger and she told me yes, so I agreed to that and asked for a side Caesar salad and they told me they'd double check if they could do that. She didn't come back to tell me if they could and just brought me a ranch side salad. I told her I asked for the Caesar and she said they couldn't do it because they were out of Caesar. When I looked to my right that table had a Caesar.. you don't just run out and give someone else one. It was about 20 mins in from when we ordered our drinks and we received them AFTER our side salads. When we took our first sips we almost gagged. Both of our sips tasted the same. No flavor only liquor. There was no ginger beer in the Moscow mule and all you could taste in the mojito was the alcohol, no mint flavor, no lime flavor. Just TERRIBLE. We told the manager and he said they'd make us new ones but we refused because if they tasted that bad then it wouldve probably been the same we just sent them back. Then we got our meals. My friend ordered a pasta meal and it came out wonderful. My burger however was charred on the outside and the gluten free bun was stale and not a bun. It was two pieces of BREAD. Don't say you have gluten free buns if you're going to give me stale bread. At this point I was just annoyed of complaining so I took off the bread and ate the meat. All in all a not great experience. The manager came back over with our bill, they took so long the whole time but once we got our food it was as though we were being rushed out. The manager had told us "Next time when you don't like a drink then we remake and don't take off bill". Kind of rude. So we left and I told family and friends of our awful experience and many of them had similar bad service stories. Went in at 5:20PM and left by 7PM... what a long time to be at a restaurant. I do not recommend giving this place a try unless you love waiting long and get a pasta and an easy drink you pour out of a bottle.. read more

My daughter and I like to sample new restaurants when we go out to eat. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The weight staff was friendly and helpful. My daughter got the lunch stir fry and I got a sausage sandwich. The stir fry was horrible, to much garlic and the vegetables tasted frozen. My sandwich was a mess, it tasted like cat food overly spices. The server never asked if we enjoyed the food. It's a shame the atmosphere was nice I don't think I'll eat there again. read more

I went to the Edison Pub and Eatery for the first time yesterday with my adult son and teenage daughter. We arrived around 4:00-ish and it wasn't busy at all. We walked up to the podium just inside the door, and a girl with long dark hair and glasses asked, "How can I help you guys?" Sort of an odd question for people entering a restaurant as usually you come there to eat... I responded, "There's 3 of us." We stood uncomfortably long while she looked at something, I assume a seating chart. Finally she says to follow her, so we do. She takes us to a 4-top table. I look around and see several booths, all of which are empty. I pointed at one and asked if we could sit there. I was told, "No, those are reserved for larger parties." I pointed at another, and again she would not accommodate. So, we sat down, ordered 2 waters and a soda, and then our food. During this time, we watch the same hostess seat 2 parties of 3 at both of the booths I had asked about. I don't mind if they have a policy not to sit less than 4-6 guests there, but if that's the policy, then stick to it! I don't know why she discriminated against us and it's pretty insulting to have your request declined and then immediately watch 2 sets of 3 other people sit down where you would have liked to sit. My reason for asking is that I have arthritic knees and spinal degeneration, so a padded booth seat is so much more comfortable than a metal chair. I didn't mention that to the hostess but I shouldn't have to. If a customer makes a request and there's room, why not be accommodating if you would like them to have a good dining experience, especially a first impression? The food came and it was okay, nothing special. It's not the best and it's not the worst. The burgers/sandwiches ran about $2-$3 more than average compared to similar restaurants in the area. My son asked for a side of ranch to dip his fries in. They brought out literally a tablespoon in a little metal cup. The check came and there was a 50¢ charge for it. Really? Anywhere else would bring you a side of ranch for your fries, complimentary. Nickel and diming like that is annoying especially when you could get the same burger for a couple bucks less elsewhere. If you're going to charge 50¢ at least it could have been a decent amount. I am not affiliated with any restaurants anywhere, but I have been to Zeppelin's once and Quentin's once, and liked both places better than The Edison. They are similar types of places in decor, atmosphere, and menu selections. I plan to go back to those places, but frankly I do not plan to go back to The Edison, primarily because of the way the hostess refused my request for a booth and then turned around and sat 2 parties the same size as ours in booths. I don't know what her problem was but I know that I don't have to put up with her discrimination for whatever unknown reason. My advice about The Edison would be, don't waste your time. It's a bit pricey for what you get, don't ask for ANYTHING extra because there will be charges, forget even thinking of asking where you might like to sit, and chances are you will enjoy the food more somewhere else anyway. There are better places around...all the way around. Texas Roadhouse has the best burger in town, in my opinion so if somebody asked me to recommend a place, that would be it. But, it's a completely different atmosphere, of course. The Edison has a nice atmosphere, but we felt like we were paying for it. Who doesn't like a nice place...but I'd be just as happy somewhere else because the service and food is what matters the most, followed by prices, and finally, atmosphere. We thought if The Edison improved on some things it could possibly be good/better than the experience we had, but still a bit pricey and not a very welcoming vibe. At best we won't be back for a good long while in the hopes that things will change for the better, but my gut feeling the day after is that I probably will not ever go back. What the hostess did was pretty insulting and hard to forget. I cannot imagine that is the outcome that any new eating establishment is aiming for not long after opening and when new customers walk in for the first time to try it. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing outing. Too bad for the Edison because I eat out a lot, but looks like I will be spending my money elsewhere. read more

I'm torn because the first time was 5/5 And this time the waitress and food were good However, our bar drinks took longer then our entrees. No way should my 8$ glass of wine take 25-30 minutes. Not only that, the bartender yelled at multiple servers waiting for drinks, saying they'll be done when done. My overpriced glass of wine should not take 30 minutes Unprofessional. First time I visited our meals were bland and unseasoned. They were newly opened so we tried again. Second time was still awful. Burger was ordered medium rare and was completely overcooked. Chili for a side at a "small upcharge" of $3 was served boiling hot and tasted overcooked like it had been boiling for hours. Jambalaya pasta was edible, but not great either. Walking in we were greeted by an enthusiastic and personable host. The daily specials were explained before we were seated, which we liked. Service was prompt and server was friendly and attentive. The broccoli soup was the best I ever had, my husband also agreed it was fan-freaking-tastic. I started with a side salad and it was just fine, nothing special. My husband ordered the prime rib, it came with delicious mashed potato and rubbery frozen green beans. The prime rib ($25) was awful, over cooked and dry. It was a very thin cut and WAY over priced. By husband didn't eat the frozen green beans and left half the prime rib. I ordered the fish and chips. My fries were crispy and had good flavor but they were "fish and chips" type fries. My fish was two small (3.5 inches) pieces and were over cooked and runny/dry on the inside. I was pretty surprised for $15 the tiny amount of fish. The actual restaurant area seem clean and well kept, the bathroom floor and floor boards could really use some cleaning. We will absolutely not be back. read more

We split meals all the time in order to not have leftovers and there are never a fee. A very nice, clean well maintained place. A big step up from the former restaurant. We have been there several times recently. The food is always good. They do not offer a very big menu, but what they do they do well. The service is always good, fast and pleasant. The TV is always on but with no sound, which is a big plus for me. We just left from our first stop at this new place. We'll be back. I had jambalaya pasta and my wife at airliner chicken. The pasta was excellent. Perfect sauce, sausage, chicken, bread. The chicken my wife reported was not terribly hot but still good. She said the potatoes were a little dry. We ordered a couple of their specialty cocktails. My wife loved the mojito. The Cioppino ( Seafood Stew with mussels, shrimp, salmon and clams) is the best seafood dish in Cedar Rapids!!! Staff is friendly. The owner is always there and great to talk to. Went tonight and split 3 appetizers with a friend who eats like a bird. Crab cakes were very small and bland, Calamari had good flavor and what looked like a large portion was really a bunch of lettuce to fill the tray and calamari on top. It reminded me of those Easter baskets you got as a kid that looked full of goodies but really was mostly fake grass. The Hummus with vegetables had a nice portion of hummus with 1 pita cut up and some cut up grape tomatoes, a few pieces of Feta, olives and 4 slices of cucumber. Not what one would expect as we had envisioned carrots and celery for something to dip the hummus. We spent 32.00 on the 3 apps not including drinks and left hungry. I normally would think 2 apps would fill us and was not impressed to go hungry with 3. I went home and had a bowl of cereal as it didn't feel right to stop at another restaurant on the way home. First time at The Edison! Read very mixed reviews and decided to try it. The mussels for ap will be my main next time. Apprehensive here in Iowa, but the wine broth and mussels were awesome. 3 unopened shells but overall great, I had the black out salad that wasn't remarkable. It was good just nothing real memorable. My friend had Cioppino and said it was fantastic. She had previously had the Jambalaya and was going to order that again but changed her order after the mussels. Service was good. We were visiting with friends and the server was patient for the order and once ordered food came in a timely manner. Not as noisy as some led me to believe in reviews, could visit comfortably. I will go back and will recommend it to others! This would have been a five with even a more memorable dressing on the salad. Solid 4-4.5 stars. read more

Good food, great service, great atmosphere! The cioppino was delicious and made fresh. The Cajun sausage and shrimp was also delicious, even my kids ate it! A little on the pricey side but I didn't even mind because the ambience was so nice. Nicer than most other restaurants on this side of town, would be perfect if your boss or family are in town and you need a good place to meet. We will be back! read more

My husband and I stopped at The Edison at 4 in the afternoon on Friday. We ordered something new off the beer menu and it turned out not to be beer - it was hard seltzer water - neither of us like seltzer water and wouldn't have ordered it if we had known. I then ordered a long island ice tea and it was pure alcohol - little to no mixer. My husband ordered one of their cocktails and it too was pure alcohol. We couldn't drink much of them. We ordered the calamari and it was crisp and tender. However, the sauce had no flavor and they had no cocktail sauce. Other restaurants offer multiple sauces for a variety of tastes and that's what we've come to expect. My husband wanted the prime rib but they didn't have it ready - he settled for a sandwich which was ok. The coleslaw was ok. I didn't see anything I wanted on the meal menu, so I tried the crab cakes and bacon wrapped dates from the appetizers. The crab cakes were overdone and the sauce had no flavor. The dates were excellent. The wait staff was excellent and took good care of us. Too bad the food just didn't cut it. We won't be back. read more
