My husband offered to treat me to breakfast this morning & since we do organic when we can & prefer local restaurants to chains, we decided to try The Egg Bistro. We've heard great things about it from friends too. We only waited 5-10 minutes, which was unusual. Every staff member was pleasant & friendly. The atmosphere & decor are very comfortable, not too much or too little. We each ordered different types of omelettes. I had the veggie one for all the vegetables: onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, & subbed avocado for the listed asparagus, then added chicken. The waitress had no problem with my customizations, which many others usually do. Instead of the standard sides I had a ruby red grapefruit. My husband had the CYO (create your own) omelette with various ingredients, with grits & a biscuit, plus coffee. Our drinks were brought right away & his coffee never got below half full without a refill offer from our waitress, Kaitlyn, or other staff. The food came out quickly, especially considering how full they were. I am happy to report, as I told Kaitlyn, this was the absolute best omelette I've ever had at a restaurant! As good or better than the ones I make at home, but without me having to cook & clean. My husband agreed completely (although cautiously, haha). Mine stayed hot the whole time I was eating! His grits were hot, creamy & not too thick or too thin ~ just right. His biscuit was soft & hot as well. We also liked that they keep a bowl full of little butter packs, so it's spreadable instead of cold & hard. There was a bowl of various flavors of little creamer packs + a rack with a variety of jam & jelly. Good planning, saves on having to ask. All in all, we were VERY pleasantly surprised. One of our favorite places for breakfast, lunch, or dinner...wish it wasn't so popular because sometimes the wait is ridiculous! (Just forget about New Years Day morning...seriously!) But the food is that good. If you have any kind of food allergy they will accommodate you. Love the side of bacon wrapped asparagus for breakfast. This place is my fav!! The staff is always so welcoming and friendly. I have 5 children and they never flinch when we walk in, very accommodating. I have never had a bad meal here. The grits are my particular favorite, stone ground and creamy. The new dinner menu is on point!! If you love innovative fun food, this is the place for you. Had dinner on Saturday, April 22, arrived at 5:15. Half priced margaritas were below average-my husbands was acceptable but my moms tasted like pure margarita mix. Undrinkable. We told our server and she said "they were made at the same time, so...". She offered to replace it but my mom was so turned off by 2 sips she did not want it. It was not taken off the bill. Had carnitas nachos and calamari, calamari was good, nachos were dry and flavorless besides the fresh sliced jalapeños. We had to ask the server about chefs specials and she stumbled through them. My husband, 4 year old daughter and I all ordered burgers, my parents ordered pasta dishes. Entrees took over 30 minutes, our server never said a word about the food taking forever as she cleared app plates and gave refills. All 3 burgers were over cooked and extremely dry, borderline inedible. After waiting so long we did not want to ask for them to be remade. My parents pasta dishes were good, Mediterranean chicken and a chefs special mussle dish. Timing of food was off. Calamari came, then five mins later came nachos. My daughters hockey puck of a burger came, then 3 entrees arrived ten mins later, my dad's mussle pasta after another five minutes. We have been here for breakfast and it was good, but we will not be returning for dinner and will not go out of our way for breakfast, as we live about 20 mins away. read more

My favorite place to go for breakfast. Great food. Great staff. The wait time isn't that bad considering the volume of people they serve. I enjoy it every time. The Broken Egg Bistro is a 5-star resteraunt - We went there for the first to time on 8/14/2010 after our friends went there. The food is amazing, the eggs are cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend the 'skillet" which is a scrambled eggs with veggies and these amazing whole mini potatoes that melt in your mouth. read more

Broken Egg does it all right. This place is great. The breakfast is just so yummy. Most breakfast and brunch places are just that - breakfast. Simple, hard to mess up. Broken Egg takes the basics and makes it delicious. Their 'Harvest' plates are a good way to get in a giant breakfast. Their pancakes are so good! Their eggs benedict are killer. Our waitress Lauren went above and beyond what a normal waitress would do for us she made sure every aspect of our meal was wonderful. The food was outstanding. The food is great however the wait time is extremely exaggerated. The one star rating is very consistent with the other reviews (wait time). The people who check us in are very misleading. I have been here at least 5 times and they tell you that it is a 30-45 minute wait. It always is more than an hour. There timelines are not accurate. Always the same results. I've been wanting to eat here for a while now and I'm so glad we did. It was excellent. First let me say the the bloody mary was so spicy and so perfectly seasoned it was almost all I needed. It comes in a large glass rimmed with old bay seasoning. The menu was so cute. Some items on the menu are named after local areas, like Deep Creek and Great Bridge. The menu was also extensive. There's a lot to choose from. You even have a choice of how you want your hash browns cut. The omelettes are huge and packed full of delicious meats and cheeses. I went with a group of friends on a Wednesday night and it was packed! We waited about 35 minutes, got smushed into a corner booth/table, and proceeded to order some pretty good drinks - I suggest the Loose Goose martini, the $7 mixed drink is only $7 for a reason, it's cute but doesn't pack a punch. We had to wait a bit for our food because it was so busy, but it was AMAZING. Although I have to be honest and say I was very tipsy by the time the food arrived. But everyone else loved the food too, so I trust my memory. I had the portabella goat cheese pasta and I just want to eat that pasta for the rest of my life. I moved to Chesapeake back in July and after a friend took me to The Egg Bistro on Kempsville, I go almost weekly. The amazing food is only surpassed by the amazing service. I request Kellie every time we go because she is very accommodating and pays extra special attention to my four year old daughter (most wait staffs seem annoyed by young children.) I went there for lunch with my mother and had a sandwich and a bowl of cream of broccoli soup. The soup was excellent, the sandwich was really great, but only a bit heavy on the red pepper mayonnaise. I am not a supporter of mayonnaise. I finished half the sandwich, because it was quite large, and considering I had a bowl of soup to begin. The service was excellent. I'd truly like to try their breakfast. OMG this place is amazeballs! Food is out of this world fantastic. We went for breakfast and it was just awesome. It took a while for our food but worth it!! We stopped here at 1pm on Sunday and they were busy. The food was great. The service was great as well. I had the BLT with hash browns and it was delicious. I liked the environment. There was a little wait but that is expected for a Sunday. The wait was only 10 min although it was expected to be 30-40 min. Great place to eat. read more

I would avoid this place if possible. If a breakfast spot openly displays a cafeteria style juice dispenser, you need to turn and run. Everything here was blaaaaaaaaaah. The blueberry pancakes did not have blueberries in them. The sides of bacon that we ordered extra crispy came out in jiggly, chewy, anorexically thin strips. I asked for my hashbrowns cooked crispy and somehow they came out limp and mealy without any "brown" on them - I am pretty sure I was served warmed up hashbrown shreds out of a bag and question whether they ever hit a griddle. The fruit salad was just plain gross - everything in it but the grapes tasted like cheap orange juice and the fruit had been soaked in something as everything but the grapes was a uniform dingy yellow that is not the normal color of any ripe fruit (I wish I'd photographed the alarming pineapple and cantaloupe). The best thing was my mostly ripe grapefruit half. read more

My sister, niece and I had a wonderful time at The Egg Bistro tonight!! The food selections were incredible, the environment was very inviting and casual/comfortable and the service was incredible!! Our server, Aston, was a total sweetheart!! She was super helpful, attended to our questions and needs and very incredibly friendly!! Our food was delicious!! I ordered the Chicken and Waffles (one of the greatest dishes). The chicken was cooked perfectly, and I loved how the batter wasn't overly crispy. I was also impressed with the 1/2 off bottle of wine for it being a Thursday and my niece's free meal!! Not to mention, I was thankful that I could switch my side dish because I couldn't handle jalapeños in my Mac and cheese. The bacon/cheese wrapped asparagus was mouth-watering delicious! Lastly, I was super impressed with Aston's service esp because we had to move things along quickly near the end so my sister could head out to her movie!! We definitely recommend this restaurant!! This is the type of place people think is good because there's nothing else good near it. I'm sure the breakfast is fine, but there's nothing original on the menu that should make anyone drive out of their way to try it. Lunch is ok, again nothing stands out. Dinner was bad. The supposed 8 ounce burger looked like a McDonald's quarter-pounder, complete with only a sliver of toppings and no seasoning. A weak wine and beer list, especially for a place that calls itself a bistro, tops off the lackluster experience. In other words, it's a perfect analogy to the restaurant scene is Chesapeake: shallow and bland. read more

I wish I could say I was blown away but that's not the case. The wait was about 20min, no biggie. The service was decent. My waitress was attentive. The food was horrible. I can't understand where all these great reviews came from. I had the blue crab eggs benedict and my boyfriend had steak and eggs w/ a side of French toast. He said his steak was great but the French toast was mediocre. It was too sweet and it actually tasted like a cinnamon bun. My blue crab was salt and the hollandaise sauce was runny. The eggs benedict comes with poached eggs but i opted for scrambled, so i know it wasnt egg yolk. My English muffin was soggy. I also had a pineapple mojito that taste like pineapple juice and mint.... no alcohol. I mentioned it to my waitress as well as the amount of flies i kept swatting away from my food. She apologized and I realize that is the summer and the door is revolving. But it was just an unpleasent experience. I'm giving this place 2 stars for decent service but I don't think I'll return because my food sucked! $60 and I was still hungry afterwards. *sigh* read more
