There's a lot to like about this lovely, older hotel. It's located in Back Bay and just a short walk from a T stop on the Green Line. (The Green Line closed for maintenance for two weeks the day after I arrived, which threw my transportation plans into disarray, but I don't hold that against the hotel.) It's a close walk to Newbury St. and the Prudential Building with its shops and rooftop observation experience, and not too much more to walk to Copley Square. Wild Duck has a beverage/wine/liquor store across the street, with a little grocery offshoot downstairs on the corner. The Eliot doesn't have much of a lobby to speak of -- it's more an entryway with a check-in desk and elevator lobby. But it's nice, and the check-in process is very welcoming. They use actual keys with big brass chains, which you'll probably want to leave at the desk when you go out. There was never a wait to drop off or pick up the key. (I never had to show ID, so the spy thriller lover in me immediately saw a scenario where the bad guy waits for the hero to go out, then gives the room number and gets the key to go upstairs and steal the memory stick. But that probably doesn't happen very often.) The rooms are mostly suites with various configurations it seems. I had one on a corner, which was nice, with a spacious living area and somewhat smaller bedroom area, but it was fine for sleeping. The two areas were separated by French doors. The soothing blue color palette was lovely and there were some distinctive and tasteful decor pieces. There was an entryway that had a little butler's pantry off it with a beverage cooler, sink and the minibar items/glassware. It was nice to have that separate space. The bathroom was pretty small, as was the closet. The layout of these areas in my room was not very convenient. You had to close the door between the bathroom/vanity area in order to open the closet and everything was a tight space to move around in. There's no handheld wand in the shower, which I deduct points for. There was also a section of the curtain rod where the coating was coming off, and it had a red arrow sticker wrapped around it, but I guess maintenance hadn't gotten there yet. There was a small cellophane wrapper on the floor as well, so some upkeep details were missed, but overall the cleanliness seemed good and the bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable. I did a ton of walking around Boston in the cold, and I definitely got good sleep at the Eliot. The attached restaurant, Uni, was lively and a tasty sushi/nigiri-type menu, if the server was a little too social and chatty and not making rounds quite often enough. read more

I stayed at The Eliot Hotel for one week during the summer. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was very clean and serviced daily. The staff was very attentive and promptly responded if I needed assistance. My favorite part about the hotel is the restaurant and bar in the lobby called Uni. We were very pleased with our stay here. It was in a great location- easy access to Fenway and the train system. The room was comfortable as was the bed. My husband tends to like to find us rooms that are probably nicer than I would get on my own and I've often found the service disappointing, especially for higher end costs. This hotel is a beautiful hotel. It reminds me of hotels in NYC. Very traditional from doorman greeting at the door, take our luggage from our hands and delivered to our room, key is actually a key to unlock the door. Everything is so elegant and gorgeous. Only things that took 2 stars from me was that 1.shampoo and conditioner, body soap are so small and there was only one each. They knew we are 2 people but only one. BUT bath towels are 4 there! 2. There was no stopper for bathtub and had to call house keeping to get it for us. 3. Keurig was unplugged and no where to find outlet, so I had to call house keeping again for help me. He had to move TV stand to plugged in. 4. One of bed side light was dead and couldn't turn on but at this point, I didn't let them know. 5. I can't really tell what is complement and what is not. When I was talking at the front desk second day, some people asked them for water bottles. I asked if we can get it for free and the front desk said yes. But there was no explanation so I didn't know until then Service was great, bed is comfy, bathroom is clean and tub is big. So it's 5 stars if I think those but I took 2 stars because I have to call twice to fix. read more

Excellent hotel. I loved the facade as you're pulling up, especially now that the place is decorated for Christmas. The marble lobby is stunning. Everyone we met was so friendly and accommodating. They offer some of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had (so much better than the Doubletree). We stayed in a suite. Bed/pillows could have been firmer but that's my personal preference. Pretty quiet. We faced the Massachusetts Avenue side and didn't hear any noise. Our room also didn't have any outlets for charging a phone right by the bed. Not a big deal but it would've been nice to have at least one. I will echo the review about the tiny bathroom sink situation. Even as someone who doesn't bring a lot of travel toiletries, there's barely any space to put one person's stuff, let alone a couple's or a family's. Very convenient location - going south, a five minute walk to Newbury Street, and then if you face north, another five minute walk to Harvard Bridge that leads into Cambridge. Fenway is also close by. read more

We can't say enough good things about our stay at The Eliot. Even before we checked in, we had spoken with Joseph and he was incredibly accommodating. We were able to book two nights in a double queen suite. The room exceeded all expectations. Beautiful living area, bedroom and bath. Views in three directions. The staff responded to any requests within minutes. Everyone was smiling, happy and pleasant. The hotel is located in stunning Back Bay and easy access to the entire city. Our only minor issue was that our beds were a wee bit too soft but the pillows and sheets were gold star. They have a wonderfully stocked mini bar and fridge and you can get pretty much anything in the city delivered to the front door. While others would complain about a historic building, it's exactly what I look for when I go to New England. Charm and beauty abound! This will be my go to anytime I return to the area. Beautiful hotel on the inside and the outside. The staff are very attentive and friendly, which was the best past of our stay. We were upgraded to a larger room, which we found to be spacious and very clean. We had a wonderful stay here. The staff was super super friendly and accommodating. Anything we asked for was supplied to us. The room was large and we never felt crowded. The bed was very comfortable. The couch not so much but my little one slept on the pull out and she said it was great. The bathroom doesn't have much shelving which is a but annoying. Not counter space or shower caddy.. it's hard being a woman with stuff in that bathroom. The ceiling in the shower was pretty low too so I kept bumping my arms and hands when I'd lift them. Again spacey and That's hard in hotels especially in the city. Parking is expensive so just keep in mind. Like $50 a day. Other than that, we had an amazing time! The location was amazing right near Copley and just ten or so blocks from the Commons and Downtown. I would come back here for sure. read more

This boutique hotel was simply adorable. I had to find a hotel quick in the back Bay Area of Boston before the snow storm hit and Elliott was available, so I took a chance. You're instantly greeted by their friendly doorman as they take your bags to the registration desk. Once you get checked in your handed a real key (not plastic key card), so it feels like a true hotel. I got into the elevator to go up to the fifth floor I noticed how endearing the small lobby is and just love how long this established hotel has been in business. My room was a suite, that had a newly renovated bathroom with its own living area and two queen beds in the bedroom. It was very clean and quiet as I didn't hear any of my neighbors. I would love to go back to this beautiful hotel in the future! read more

Beautiful hotel building and very nice doormen and front desk staff however a few things I need to mention that made this stay and hotel drop from a 3 star to a 2. The room was beautiful with a nice view of the bustling street. We layed down in bed and the pillows were basically non existence with how flat they were. I called down to the front desk and requested firmer pillows and they told me they would bring some up but that never happened. We each had 3 pillows all stacked up to equal 1 normal pillow. We had a 3 night stay, the 1st day we were there we left around 10am and came back around 4pm from sightseeing. As we were getting to our room housekeeping stopped us to tell us she was just getting to our room which i thought was oddly late. I told her we didn't need service just towels and traded the used for clean. Another thing that I couldn't understand is that there were no towel hooks and no dresser in our suite. The luggage basically took up the whole living room area in our suite. There was a hair in the sink upon arrival which really turned me off, Plus everytime you went to use the toilet you had to wipe down the seat from the previous flush. It was disgusting. For the nightly rate we paid we expected this hotel to be topnotch. Even if they dropped the rate in half we wouldn't stay here again. read more

I forgot to mention in my previous review that my toilet doesn't actually flush toilet paper. I'm not sure how this toilet was designed why do you actually have to push the toilet paper down manually in order for it to go down the drain! Needless to say it's pretty gross. And there is there a full length mirror in here to check yourself out! The only mirror there is is in the bathroom. A small detail with big consequences. read more

Hi Folks, Beware Guests! I thought I had a very nice and very short stay, but I received a large number of mini-bar items charged to my room after I departed, (when I did not use the mini-bar at all), so I would recommend being careful about checking the mini-bar items so that this doesn't happen to you. I found the staff initially to be very uncooperative about this and I only had it resolved when I worked with American Express and the General Manager who did help me. I travel frequently and I am Diamond with Hilton and Platinum with IHG and I've never had a billing issue like this before so I was surprised. Otherwise, enjoy your stay! read more

The hotel is beautiful. Renovated inside and historical in the hallways and in the exterior. The building was built in 1925 and really retains its charm. I think the most impressive asset for the property though is the staff. The doormen are classic gentlemen; courteous, kind attentive and very professional. It's conveniently located walking distance from the shops along Newbury Street and the Boston Public Library, and not too far from other areas of interest either (we were able to get relatively cheap Uber/Lyft rides or go on longer walks to get more or less everywhere we wanted). Also the surrounding neighborhood is very nice; I enjoyed going for a stroll down Commonwealth Ave. in all its serenity to start off the day. :) Hotel staff was spectacular - always friendly, professional, and accommodating. The hotel definitely had a historic, old school vibe to it - none of those plastic cards to enter your room here, better be prepared for a big ol' back-to-basics key! Our room was pretty small, but it was clean and nicely laid out and the bed was comfy, so no complaints. Also, the shower in the bathroom was amazing! The perfect amount of force and I swear you could practically control the temperature down to the freaking degree. Our suite was on an upper floor with a nice view, the room itself was gorgeous and well appointed with the layout feeling like a NYC apartment. Very comfortable beds and sitting area, big TVs, and elegant marble bathroom plus a wet bar. This hotel definitely has an old charm to it, which is not what I am used to. Though the rooms were renovated and looked nice, I feared our room was haunted because one of the lights in the bathroom would turn on and off randomly. We also heard some random squeaking noises here & there, which we attributed to either old pipes or mice. The bathrooms are spacious, but a bit out dated. It's been ages since I've used a shower/tub combo! Service was great here, upon check-in we were upgraded to a large and comfy suite. Valet service takes at least 30 minutes to get your car, so make sure to call in advance. Instead of key cards like most hotels, we got a big lunky old-fashioned key. On the flip side, our room was equipped with a touch-screen computer offering free internet and other guest services. Room service is pretty good, as long as you order during the day and stick to items that come from the restaurants downstairs (Clio and Uni Sashimi Bar). Late-night room service however is horrible. At 3am, we ordered "baked macaroni with Vermont cheddar cheese and bread crumbs" and "two slices of cheese pizza with fresh basil, parmesan cheese, and olive oil"...but what we got was pretty much easy-mac and soggy microwaved pizza. Nice hotel. Old building, which has its charm. But they only have two elevators and they're both broken with no real ETA on when they'll be up and running again. I'm on the 8th floor. Not very fun (or safe) to climb up and down the narrow fire escape stairs, especially given the fact that it's raining today and people are tracking in water (and the stairs are made of slick stone/tile). Lots of families and older folks staying here - feel especially bad for them. Further, if they couldn't at least call guests to let them know that the elevators are broken, the hotel staff could have at least posted signs on each floor. Instead, several guests on my floor waited for the elevators for some time before figuring out for themselves that the elevators weren't coming. For the cost of a room here, really not acceptable. Sorry to be harsh. read more

This hotel was excellent. The staff was always friendly and very inviting. Our room was even upgraded, which was a plus. We stayed in a suite with a living room separated from the bedroom by french doors. It was well decorated in the Eliot's signature french style and overlooked Commonwealth avenue. When we checked in, the gentilman working at the front desk gave us two certificates for $10 off of breakfast at the restaurant attached to the hotel, another perk I was not expecting. Everything about this hotel screamed elegance and class, right down to the fact that they didn't conform to the modern room key card, they actually give you a key on a keychain with your room number on it. I would highly recommend this hotel, not just for the great location (right down the street from boutique shops and fine dining), but for the experience that you get from your stay. read more

Fantastic hotel, great value and very well appointed suites. The staff were all very nice but extremely young. I found out the hotel is used as a training ground for students of a hospitality management college nearby. That's fine. Everyone has to have a chance to learn but several mistakes were made throughout our stay starting with payment being processed on my credit card twice and just the overall slow process of requests. I would definitely recommend the hotel to someone with the proviso they knew it's a training ground for hotel staff. read more

The Eliot is our go-to hotel whenever we decide to take a short weekend trip into Boston. This is a fantastic and well-kept charming and luxurious boutique hotel that is very centrally located right by Newbury Street. The concierge was very helpful and welcoming. The doormen were delightful and welcomed us each time. If it was raining they'd have a umbrella ready. The suite was gorgeous and the turndown service a real treat. Welcome cookies and champagne went down a treat and made us feel special. It's right next to the Harvard Club, which for my is a benefit because there's events there and I can stay next door at the Eliot. We already have several other trips planned here in the future. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here! Everyone was friendly, polite and professional. Our room was clean and quiet, which we really enjoyed. The bed was a little hard but that's just my preference because I prefer a softer bed. The front staff were very accommodating and allowed my grandmother to stay two hours later than checkout due to an illness. The door man was always available and friendly too as well as the bell hop guys. We loved the location and would highly recommend staying here when visiting Boston! Stayed here for a concert at Fenway. The staff was fantastic and allowed us to check in early so we could get to the pre-concert party on time which was much appreciated. We had a one bedroom for the evening, which was very nice. The room itself was very clean and much larger than I'd imagined with a very large living room. We also were on the corner so we had nice views on to both commonwealth as well as mass ave. Housekeeping left complementary cookies and water in our room which was awesome after an evening at Fenway. Overall, an A+ experience. read more

The staff were friendly and eager to be helpful. My friends and I were in suite rooms, which are large and spotlessly clean with comfortable couches, chairs, and one of the best beds I've ever slept on. The bathrooms are indeed small, but nothing a native New Yorker isn't used to. The in-room mini-bar is well-stocked, and prices were reasonable for drinks and snacks.
