This is a lovely boutique hotel that reminds you of life in Western Europe. The best this about the hotel is the service. The staff is very accomendating and will do anything to make sure a quest is treated wonderful. For me, the location was great. Highly Recommend!!!!!!!!! read more

Bear with me, folks; my review may sound negative at first, but I assure you it is positive. My husband and I stayed at The Eliot the night of our wedding. We live about an hour outside of the city and had a very small wedding at Castle Island, so part of the purpose for our room was so that our 3 accompanying witnesses could change and put on makeup. At check-in time, we told our valet that we would be leaving within the hour to get married, and he kept the car waiting for us on Mass Ave for no charge, which was wonderful. Our room was on the fifth floor at the end of a hall, with two rooms abutting it. I didn't think it would be an issue, and thought nothing of it, considering we weren't there to party and were hardly going to be in the room anyway. We recieved several noise complaints before 8pm, even though we were barely talking, and were only in the room for a grand total of an hour and a half, so be warned that the walls are thin, or that your room may be adjacent to a couple of cranky adult babies. The windows were huge and we opened them to let in a nice fall breeze. Our view was of the public alley, but I didn't care, as I was only going to be there to sleep. The mattress was plush and comfortable, the closets were gigantic, there was a stocked mini-bar, snacks, a bench at the foot of the bed, which was very convenient, a comfy chair, a desk with outlets, and two large, gorgeous mirrors. But the bathroom. THE BATHROOM. It was gigantic. The shower was large and tiled and the sink had a doubly large counter top, which was perfect for three girls tp do their makeup. There was even an attached magnifying mirror. The bathroom made getting ready so much easier. We got changed, dolled ourselves up, and left. I said I do, my husband vowed to love me forever, woo-hoo! The whole thing was done by sunset. We went to dinner, came back at 2am, passed out. Zzzzzz. Check-out was easy and quick, I asked if the payment went through immediately, and they assured me it did. I'm a cook, and so is my husband, so we don't make a lot of money, hence our wedding being as small and simple as it was. There was $100 hold in addition to the room cost, and I needed that money to be available for my brunch. Went to Eastern Standard, ate, went to pay, and we were declined. I walked back to the hotel and explained that I was stranded with my meal, and needed them to release the hold on my money. They did EVERYTHING in their power to make sure that we were assisted. They called my bank, and could not get the hold removed, so they gave me $100 cash, in addition to the held money. I was astounded! I burst into tears, I was so moved by the compassionate gesture. The Eliot Hotel is handsome, hitoric and convenient, but what really is the most valuable attribute of The Eliot is their five-star customer service. They truly lived up to their reputation and I would absolutely stay there again. read more

We had an excellent stay at this hotel and will definitely come back next time we are in Boston.

The good: We had a corner suite with two full beds, good size and decor. Great location, close to shops and restaurants. Late night ramen restaurant downstairs 11:00 pm to 2:00 am was a plus. Small menu but food was good. The not so good: No coffee/tea maker in the room, either walk to Starbucks which is about 5 mins away, or call room service $5 each coffee/tea plus service and tips. We asked for milk or cream with our tea but they never brought them. Very small bathroom, no tub, no fan. Ask for wake up call but never got one. read more

This is a beautiful historic hotel in the middle of Boston. The doormen greet and assist every time you enter or leave the hotel. The marble lobby is grand and even the historic elevators are charming. The suite room was large and comfortable. We had cookies, chocolate, and coffee greet us when we first entered the room. After our first night, we wanted to move in permanently. My only complaint is that we had to ask them to clean our room and, even after doing so, the cleaning was subpar, at best. They made the bed, but did not swap the used glasses/mugs and did not empty any of the trash. read more

I wasn't sold on the Eliot, especially not for the price. I stayed here for 5 days back in spring of 2009, and I'm not sure that I would stay here again. The room itself was fantastic. In fact, it was more like a one bedroom apartment than a hotel room. It had a bedroom, a sitting room, a mini kitchen in its own tiny room, a walk-in closet, and of course, a bathroom. Unfortunately, the beds were less than comfortable. The mattresses were hard, while the pillows were head-swallowingly soft. I just couldn't get comfortable. In fact, I ended up sleeping on the floor several nights. Yes, over $1500 for the hotel stay and I slept on the floor. A colleague staying in the room immediately above me had the same experience. The most irritating thing, though, was that their staff came around knocking on doors far too frequently. Perhaps some people appreciate this, but I was less than pleased to get in after a long flight, only to have my power nap interrupted by a guy asking if I want ice - after I had informed the front desk that I wanted to be left alone, and after I had put the "do not disturb" on my door.. Just put an ice machine somewhere accessible and be done with it. Of course, when I DID want ice later, I had to roam around the hotel looking for it, only to end up at the front desk where they told me I would need to go back to my room and wait for someone to bring it. And of course, that someone generally wants a tip. The neighborhood was less than ideal, too. There weren't a lot of mid-range, casual places to eat in easy walking distance, and I wasn't really sure where to tell the cab driver to take me since I didn't know the city very well. I found things to be much easier on past trips when I stayed near Copley Plaza or the waterfront. If you appreciate irritatingly clingy service and small boutique hotels, you may actually like The Eliot Hotel. It's just not my style. read more

I actually am a little biased towards the Eliot Hotel. When I worked next door at the Harvard Club, I got to know the wonderful owner of the Eliot. I got a chance to stay here a couple of weeks ago when I came up for business/baseball game/time with my love. I was upgraded to a suite on the top floor, which was beautiful. Quaint, with a sitting area and a perfectly sized bedroom. The old key is an elegant touch. I really can't describe this hotel any better- staff was great, stay was great. If you're not familiar with Boston- this is a great location. A couple of blocks from the Common/Garden (in alphabetical order, even!) down Newbury Street, a little ways away from Fenway Park, and right near a T stop. You really can't get any better. An intimate hotel that is perfect for a romantic stay with your love or time for business with...whomever you choose. read more

I was in town for the Boston Marathon and needed a hotel near the finish. I went to Hotwire.com to find a room day-of, and booked a room at this hotel. It is a charming hotel, with a small lobby and a very nice doorman. I felt a little out of place, as I was carrying a large back-pack and looked a bit disheveled. I didn't look homeless or anything, I was just tired from traveling and walking around a lot. The person at the front desk was very nice and checked me in even though I was there before my 3 p.m check-in time (I had thought it was noon). I was given a large key, which I thought was a bit old-school, and took the elevator one floor up to my room. I was very impressed with the room. There was a large sitting room, and the bedroom had it's own set of french doors. There were televisions in both rooms, a sink and fridge with (expensive) snacks and drinks inside. The bathroom was normal-sized, everything worked, the shower was fine. I loved that there were couches to relax on, rather than lying in bed. The bed... oh my goodness. I read some other reviews on here about the beds being too hard, but I was in heaven. I had to get out of that thing at 4:30 a.m. on race day, and I contemplated skipping the marathon so I could stay in the bed. It may be because I have a full at home, and this was a king, but I was in love with the bed. And the pillows, THE PILLOWS! I wanted to shove those things in my backpack and try to sneak them out. I dream about that bed now and hate my own bed. Look at this, I'm obsessing over a bed. Moving on. Someone else mentioned that the staff knock on your door a lot, and I would agree. Someone knocked at one point and I was in the middle of changing. I hadn't ordered anything, and the gentleman said it was turndown service. I'm not sure what that was, but I didn't need it. I also went on a little trip for ice, but they get it for you, which I thought was a bit odd. Did I mention the bed? Overall, it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't my style. Oh and when I was checking in, a lady was talking to the concierge about how great the hair dryer was. She was adamant about purchasing the one in her room. So I guess the beds and the hairdryers are heavenly. read more

Several years ago now the company I was working for had one of their monthly company wide meetings at The Eliot Hotel. And while I don't recall much about that meeting, I do recall how lovely I thought the hotel was. Flash forward to this past December when my partners company had their holiday party at the hotel. They had rooms booked, ours ended up being a lovely queen size room complete with a couch and fantastic view (corner room, yay!). They had a cocktail hour and appetizers at the restaurant Uni, then the company dinner at Clio. It was just the entire company, so we didn't have to worry about any other patrons in the restaurant. It was an absolute superb time. The hotel staff was so very friendly and knowledgeable on things in the area. Even if we really didn't need any help getting around (native to Boston and live close by). The room itself was fully stocked and very clean. We indulged in the mini bar and had a blast drinking the bottle of champagne stashed away inside. Opps. Overall a really great hotel. My favorite part would have to be the beautiful elevators. read more

This is my new favorite hotel! It's a sweet boutique hotel with impeccable service. They have the cool "get it on" jazz playing in the lobby, much like the other trendy chains (Sofitel, Klimpton) but the service and posh surroundings are traditional. The only Boston hotels that come close in my opinion are the Langham and The Fairmont Copley Plaza (Arthur Fiedler/Boston Pops Suite). Upgraded to a suite which was fabulous. Friends often get a suite at the Westin Copley which have amazing views of the Charles, Cambridge and Boston but I'd trade the view of Back Bay roof tops for the cozy at home feeling of this hotel. As with most of these older hotels, the bathroom is nothing special. In fact the bath tub was smaller than my tub at home and the potty had a push down flush lever like a public restroom. Came in one night after a full glass of pino (not much of a drinker) and I forgot and flushed it with my foot. Had flashbacks to my old clubbing days on Lansdowne Street in the late 1970's when you didn't let your disco dress hit the toilet seat. Otherwise I loved this place. Small lobby with a truly helpful doorman. Old fashioned elevators with raised panels and gold leaf. Big brass keys for the doors which people typically leave with the front desk when going for a walk because they are bulky but chic. Suite had a nice living room and bedroom with flat panel TV's, clock radio was iPod compatible. (No Bose system like the Fairmont) Love the furniture-sofa extremely comfortable and coffee tables and desk just like home. Plush king size canopy bed made extra comfy with lots of pillows and throws. Loved the window seats and lofty mix of modern with traditional furnishings. European feel with updated touches. Wifi is $5.00/day, but I used my cell phone and the HP Touch Screen Concierge on the desk. The touch screen allows you to check out things on the Internet, but will not allow you to access sites such as Facebook or major ISP's like Gmail, Yahoo or AOHell. Location, location, location. Newbury Street is just around the corner and the Harvard Club is on the same block. I would much rather stay here when wanting to be in the Back Bay/Copley area than at a chain hotel such as Westin or Marriott. It was great to grab a bite and shop on Newbury with a stop "home" to drop off purchases and take a rest. There is a Starbucks within 2 blocks of the hotel (a Dunkins too if that's your thing). The dudes and dudettes from nearby Berklee College of Music are out and about which makes people watching enjoyable. Just be careful of folks on bikes as you make your way across the street. This entire area just gives you that unique feeling that only a visit to Boston can provide. The elite and the funky living in harmony. Ate breakfast in the formal dining restaurant (Clio)one morning-nothing special and very pricey. Quality was decent, but not worth the $30+ price per person (but I didn't pay, so why am I complaining?). Service was excellent. We didn't try the small sushi restaurant. Capital Grille is just around the corner and Sweet N Nasty erotic cakes and MORE is located right across the street in case you are feeling particularly randy. If you valet the car make sure to allow 30 minutes for them to bring around your vehicle. Evidently they use a garage located in the area at a cost of $45/day. I was concerned about my car being stowed away but it was delivered in about 20 minutes with no scratches at check out. Can't wait for my next stay... read more

Beautiful hotel. A bunch of friends and I stayed here for my birthday in February. I was surprised how small the lobby was, but it was decorated beautifully. Lots of old fashioned charm and lots of marble. The staff at the front desk were really nice and they got us checked in and up to our room quickly. The elevators were surprisingly small, and rather old fashioned, but they had little chandeliers in them which I thought was very cute and unexpected. We had booked a deluxe room, and it was very elegant. It had large windows that opened, and a view of the Pru (and also the convenience store and naughty cake store across the street on Mass Ave, but I loved that too!) We had two large queen sized beds in the bedroom, which you could close off from the entry way and living room area with French doors. There were chocolate chocolate chip cookies waiting for us when we got up there, and they were devoured in minutes by me and my chocoholic friends. The bathrooms were a little outdated, but you find that with a lot of hotel rooms in Boston, but on the plus side there was marble everywhere and nice bath amenities which we promptly put in our suitcases. There was a HUGE walk-in closet with shelves, hangers, iron, iron board and a wall of mirrors. The front desk staff was great when we bothered them on numerous occasions for ice, a bottle opener and a pair of scissors, always sending someone up right away with whatever we had requested. The room was beautiful, the location couldn't be better right on the corner of Mass Ave. and Comm. Ave. You're close to EVERYTHING being one block away from Newbury Street, and 2 blocks away from Boylston. My friends and I had a great time here, we'd definitely come back and stay again. And I also want to try their restaurant down in the basement, Clio, I heard it was great too! read more

One of the best hotel experiences I have had. We got a weekend stay as a wedding gift and it ended up being our honeymoon weekend, even though we lived less than 10 miles away. The room was a beautiful suite that looked out over comm av and would have been really nice for the 4th of July! They had a box of pastries for us the first night we were there and some cookies and milk the second night. The room was SO clean, sheets crisp, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever been in. A big jacuzzi bath tub and wonderful service was like icing on the cake. I know it's on the pricey side for those who don't get their stay as a gift, but it would have been worth it! Oh and they have AWESOME food for room service and the attached restaurant is amazing as well! read more

Boston's Best Boutique hotel! Not only does it have the advantage of a rockin' location, this place is utterly precious and charming. The rooms are special and lovely and the staff is attentive and friendly. Forget chains - this truly is a Boston one-of-a-kind gem. Not only that, but they have Clio, one of Boston's best restaurants, right inside! My work did some business with the Eliot and Maureen, the Director of Sales and Catering, was a super star. No crisis was too big, no accommodation too outlandish. She took care of my people staying there and was friendly and great the entire time. Not only does the Eliot know style, but they know customer service! I recommend this place to out of town friends time and time again. read more

We stayed here only one night and found it to be a cute, quaint, and elegant throwback to the last century. The room was very comfortable (and definitely upgraded from the last century!) and surprisingly quiet, given how dense that neighborhood is. The only issue we had was with parking - the valet service was excellent but because of the location we had to take a circuitous route to pull up curbside. The staff were very friendly, and it seemed like everyone had an Irish accent (even the Filipino lady at the front desk). When I was coming back from my morning coffee-and-pastry run, the guy at the front door seemed more interested in talking with some of the other customers than in opening the door for me, so I had to juggle two coffees and a bag of pastries while opening the door. Overall I highly recommend the Eliot hotel. Our bathroom wasn't particularly well lighted - my wife had to apply her makeup in the bedroom with some jury-rigged lighting - but otherwise it was a great experience. read more

Can't say anything bad about The Eliot at all. Greeted warmly at the door, asked all the right questions about whether we needed anything at all, and were told about the big beautiful black umbrella in the closet of our room as it was pouring the day we stayed here. Well done all around. Elevators can have a bit of a wait as they are small and old but that's about as bothered as I was by anything during my stay here. Found it to be expensive, but relatively speaking a good deal less than the big chains around. Would definitely stay here again. read more

I came here during PAX weekend, and was pleasently surprised at how nice it was. I got the room on a government discount, so I ended up paying a price not too different from a Best Western in the area. Given that price, I was expecting service like a Best Western, but it turned out to be super classy. The staff was very professional, and very helpful. The doormen greeted you with a smile, and also helped me flag down a cab when necessary. The ladies at the counter were also nice, and also kept my luggage for me after checking-out, until I was ready to leave town. The room itself was a little on the small side, but had a spacious bathroom and walk in closet. It was well decorated though, and the bed was quite comfortable. Let's talk about the bathroom for a second though. The toilet design was like that of a public toilet (clean though). It kind of reminds me that you're in temporary living as opposed to feeling at home. The shower was weird...it was one of those showers where there's no tub. There's a half a glass wall sectioning off an area where the shower is, and that's it. It led to water getting everywhere, and it would actually stay wet for a long time. The TV in the room was kind of small. Like a 20inch flat screen or something. It was also a fair distance from the bed, which sort of made TV watching not practical. However, they charge you for WiFi (via AT&T), so TV watching from a personal laptop would only work if you had something pre-downloaded. The room did include a computer of its own though. It was an HP touchscreen all-in-one computer (so no keyboard or mouse, and no tower on the floor somewhere...similar to an iMac). It had this hotel OS on it, so you could order room service via it. It also had weather info, train info, and you could search for restaurents with it. It had the ability to surf the internet, but it becomes kind of impractical on a touch screen with no mouse or keyboard. On a final note, they did leave 3 chocolate chip cookies in the room for me (first night only..it was not replenished by room service). That was a nice surprise. I would probably give this place a 4.5 if i could, b/c the things mentionned above really stop it from getting a 5. read more

Bottom line: I highly recommend this hotel. A California family, whose daughter attends BU-- suggested this location. We found the staff to be professional and extraordinarily helpful. They--front desk, housekeeping, etc. --made every effort to make our stay comfortable, as my group visited Boston universities and colleges. Did I read that this location was a single residence at one time? The location allows for quick walks to good restaurants, schools, etc. (Btw: Beautiful old homes on this street.) My suite was clean and good sized. And most importantly my bed was clean and comfortable. I could go on, but I think that you got the jest of my perspective. Side note: I accidentally left my Kindle in my room, and I realized my error as we catching a train to New York. With little fuss or fanfare, they quickly retrieved my Kindle, bubble wrapped it, and popped it in the mail. read more

I'm a local in Boston who commutes via bike down Mass Ave every morning. My experiences with the Eliot (putting work-related guests up at the hotel) has been nothing but great. However, as a cyclist, their doormen routinely put themselves, cyclists, and motorists in harms way. They step into the bike lane, encourage cabs to cross the line of cyclist traffic, and when cyclists audibly note that they are being irrational, respond with "shut up." It's really disheartening to see this every morning. I'd love to support the Eliot but just can't with this level of disregard for our fabulous city's efforts to increase cycling. read more

Walking distance to many, many restaurants not to mention to 2 located on the property. Less than a block to the "T" located in a great old neighborhood. Fantastic hotel! We stayed here for one night (last night) because the Marriott Back Bay didn't have availability for last night as part of our long weekend stay. Needless to say, I wish we had stayed here every night! Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a suite from our basic room - what a great surprise. The room was perfect. It had a classic decor and was absolutely beautiful. Exactly what you would expect and hope for in a classic Boston hotel on Comm ave. The bed was even better - I don't think I've ever slept in such a comfortable bed away from home. Everyone working here from the doorman, front desk attendees, and house keepers were all out-of-their-way nice to me and my girlfriend during our stay also. I can't say enough nice things about this hotel. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone needing a nice stay in the Boston area. read more

I recently stayed at the hotel for a 4 night stay. The location is great. I didn't have a car during my vacation but getting from the airport to the hotel was no problem. I took the new airport shuttle to the back bay stop and had a short walk to the hotel. This was $5 without the local transportation card, but I bought a week pass so it was free. It's in a really nice neighborhood. The price was great compared to other hotels in the location. We were upgraded to a suite which was the first time I've been lucky enough to have this happen. The staff was very friendly. In the suite there was a keurig which is really handy, so if you plan on staying in one that you can bring your own kcups. There is a trader joe's nearby which was really convenient as well. Pros: great location, friendly staff, great neighborhood, no issues with housekeeping Cons: small bathroom, no fridge, (I'm a small person but if someone is tall or overweight this could have been nearly impossible to use) read more

The Great staff could not make up for the poorly designed, tiny rooms, tinier bathrooms and paper thin walls. The bathroom was something out of a dollhouse, with the commode positioned so close to a wall that it had to be used on a angle. (You can use your own imagination) Things like soap, shampoo, towels and linens were all top notch but impossible to enjoy in such tight quarters. Internet is free but only provided 3.85mbps....so they're not giving much away. Not sure how the view was since access to the window was blocked by furniture. I'd recommend skipping the stay. read more

I hate to give this place such a low rating because the front desk staff were very friendly and lovely people. My boyfriend and I stayed over last night on the 9th floor for new years and were very excited as the hotel has had great reviews. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy our stay very much. Upon arriving to our room, the room smelled awfully of paint. After waiting about 15 minutes hoping we would become accustomed to the smell but it was far too strong so we contacted the front desk. We were then moved to another room and the staff were apologetic. In the next room, which was much smaller than our original room (king sized bed switched to queen) we were left a little disappointed. The radio/alarm clock wasn't working, and we were surprised to see you have to pay $10 just to listen to music. Not only that, but the bed did not have an under-sheet, just a mattress cover, a bed sheet, and a duvet. This was disappointing. At one point, when I was in the room changing, a staff member briefly knocked and after yelling for them to wait a moment, they started to enter the room. This was quite startling. Altogether, we were left underwhelmed. For the price we paid we were expecting more. read more

The nicest staff you could ask for, they will help you with everything you need from directions for the city to restaurant reservations. The place itself is in the best location for walking to good food, shopping, great views, and close to lots of other things to do. Rooms are great and are filled with comfy furniture and TV's. I've stayed here three or four times when family has been visiting Boston, and it's always been wonderful. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean, gorgeous, and comfortable. The location is also fantastic - you're steps away from Newbury street and the Charles river, and right down the street from both Boston University and Berklee College of Music. I haven't eaten at the hotel's restaurant before, but my family members who have said it was delicious (though pricey). Would definitely recommend the Eliot to anyone visiting Boston, especially those looking to stay in/explore the Back Bay Area! read more

It's a long story but, although I lived in Boston I found myself living in the Eliot Hotel for more than a week. It really is a top-quality hotel. The single room actually had multiple rooms to it- a living room area, multiple televisions, a nice place for storing some snacks. It felt like a small apartment and was really nicely decorated. I was really impressed and have yet to find another hotel with rooms this nice. The reason why the Eliot doesn't receive five stars is that we stayed here for a while- with a lot of our stuff- and didn't find the management to be very willing to help us in any way. We paid a hefty price in the thousands to stay here and every time we took our car out they charged us. Because we had to continue with our daily lives in the area we had to take our car in and out many times. I was really disappointed that with the stress of what was going on and how they handled the car sitch. read more

This is a great little hotel very near Fenway Park and a number of colleges and universities. An predominantly suite hotel, it has multiple rooms for its guests including a pull out bed hidden in the sitting room sofa. Can't say enough good things about it. We stayed here over the weekend and are on the fence as to whether we would stay again or not. This is a beautiful hotel and the location is excellent. Plenty of shopping and dining options within walking distance. Yet very quiet despite all the traffic bustle surrounding it. The Staff: Very friendly and accommodating. Top notch as I would expect from a hotel of this class. The Room: We had a suite. There was a very large bedroom and also a sofa bed. The room was very clean, nicely appointed with a desk, minibar, a TV in each room, and climate control. The decor was nice as well. The bed was extremely comfortable. The sofa bed, not so much. The bathroom was tiny and there was only a shower (no tub). If you weren't careful you'd bump yourself on the sink every time you used the toilet. It also took forever to get hot water in the shower. It was just too small for our taste. The Food: We ordered room service during normal hours and I have to say the quality of the food, considering the price, was disappointing. The menus for Clio and Uni, the hotel restaurants, are small and there isn't much variety for picky eaters. Also, I feel like basics such as coffee and tea with an in-room maker should be free. $5 is a bit much. Also, you could not get your own ice. That had to be brought from the kitchen and of course like every other little thing, you have to tip. Other: I love that this hotel is pet friendly. Pets stay free of charge which is great. Our pets felt welcome, not just accommodated. Be prepared to tip. The valet, doorman, room service, turn down service (if you use the sofa bed there are no linens--they come and make it for you), maid, ice delivery.... Overall a very nice hotel, but could use some work on the details. The bedroom had no vanity and the bathroom was a closet, so there was nowhere comfortable to do makeup and hair. We had a great experience here. My husband is a terrible planer, we arrived here at 10 am with no reservation. They dont have a room available and we are not allowed to check in until 3pm. However, they actually called us when they had a room available at 11am. And they took care of our suitcases before checking in and after checking out. They have tags and everything. My husband lost the key (man we were terrible customers but forgive my husband, he felt terrible too) They gave us the spare key as requested. Everything here is rather vintage looking, the elevator is gorgeous. The only down side here is that they dont have any toothbrush, this is the first hotel that I have been to without toothbrush. The Internet is fast and easy to register. Oh, another thing I love the most is the curtain, it blocked the light like no other. My husband and I slept during the day because we were out during the night. We woke up around 2pm and it was very dark in the room. I love it. We will comeback to this hotel when we visit Boston again next year. read more

BUYER BEWARE: My husband got me a hotel room here for one night as a graduation gift. Since leaving they charged my husband an additional 200 dollars as a smoking penalty. I do not smoke, I did not smoke in the hotel room. I did smell some stale smoke, but assumed it was just an old building and maybe it just smelled that way. They said the person who does the inspections will contact us but I am not sure what that's going to do. So buyer beware, don't stay on the 7th floor because someone else is smoking there and you will pay for it! I am so angry right now that no one could help us sort this out. Would have been a great trip, but it's been ruined by this for me. read more

Great boutique hotel. The entire staff went above and beyond. You can't get a better location than this. I will always come back here when visiting Boston. Great location to Newbury, walking to Fenway, Bolyston St, Public Garden - everything. Nice rooms, big bathrooms and just classy & elegant without being stuffy. read more

My wife, 1 year old daughter, and I had an excellent stay at the Eliot. We stayed in a two-room suite for a very reasonable price. The pictures on the website accurately display the quality of the rooms, and the service was very good. Pros: -Friendly, helpful staff -Recently remodeled, modern rooms and amenities (some of the floors were being remodeled at the time of our stay) -Reasonably priced -Central location, close to several outstanding coffee shops, book shops, shopping, restaurants Cons: -Only two, slow elevators (I consider this a minor hit) -Wi-fi was $5 a day (again, minor) -Valet parking is unnecessary and overpriced - during our stay (Jan 14, 2013), I found street parking within one or two blocks for very cheap. Of course, if you're not using your car during the day, then you would have to keep changing spots/putting quarters in meters, but if you're not using your car, why did you bring/rent it? read more

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and our room was upgraded. The staff is warm, welcoming and helpful. They even had gifts for our children. The room is cozy and great and the location is perfect. The best best best part was the service. The people there are incredible. You should be so proud of your staff. This is a great hotel. We spent our wedding night here and it could not have been any better. The location is great, the rooms are beautiful, and the staff are very helpful. The restaurants in the hotel are great and be sure to have a cocktail (or many cocktails) at the bar at Clio. They might be the best and most creative in Boston. The staff were also incredibly understanding when an unfortunate situation arose and they went above and beyond what I expected. Stay here if you can! read more

This place is amazing, stayed here on the toughest week of my life, dropping of my son n college moods we not the best but as soon as we pulled up to the Valet (Kevin) changed our mood I am telling you this guy deserves a promotion, then we had book on hotels tonight and it did not give us an option to select 2 beds so it was a problem for a min till the guys at the front desk said don't worry will take care of you and found us a room, I felt like I was staying at a suite in park plaza in nyc, amazing place amazing staff !!! read more

I doubt that many people ever actually liked, or admired the film caricature of the high nosed concierge who was dismissive, and disrespectful to all but the wealthiest clients. We would think in modern life that customer service, and general human decency would guide their interaction with the public. Generally we would be right, but yesterday I managed to find just such a supercilious caricature of a person. If you have ever been away from home, and out in public then you know the struggles of finding a public rest room. Restaurants are usually fairly accomodating, so I decided to try my luck at Clio. There was some construction around the restaurant entrance, so I entered through the attached hotel doors, and approached the front desk where I met Daniela. I asked whether I could use the hotel facilities, and she told me that their facilities were only for guests who had a room key. That is fair; I know that I am in no way entitled to rest rooms where I please, so I thanked her for her time, and started to walk away. As I left I noticed a sign reading "Restrooms" so I began to approach it when unsolicited she called out across the room that that was not actually the way to the rest rooms. I thanked her, and noticed the the door from the hotel lobby to Clio, and began to approach that when she once again called out that the restaurant was likely closed, because they opened at 500pm. I checked my clock, and the time was actually 515pm, but I decided not to argue with some one who very clearly wanted me gone. I went out onto the street, and found that the street entrance to Clio was open, so I went in, and asked the host stand to use their facilities. Their host very helpfully led me down to the hotel lobby where I just was, and pointed me to the Restrooms sign I had earlier seen. I should take this time to say that the facilities there are clean, and well ordered. I have no complaints there. On my way out I returned to the front desk to ask Daniela about why she would lie to me about so many things. The exchange was pretty brief: I explained that I would publish my experience on Yelp, and as a parting shot she insisted, "Make sure they know that you're not a guest." So here it is: I want to make that fact clear. In case you missed it though, the translation there is, "You're not a guest, so you're nothing to me." I am not sure what her thought process was during our exchange. I can only state the facts of what happened, and my own view of our experience. She may have thought that she could be as disrespectful, and obstructive as she wanted to be without consequence. She may have thought that I may not have been offended, or motivated enough by that experience. She may not have known that I am a journalist, so documenting this kind of thing is what I do. Regardless of what she had going on, the fact remains that this is how she deals with people are not guests, and she is confident that her establishment supports her behavior. I am sure that their entire establishment is excellent, and well appointed. I laud your taste if you choose among your many options to stay there, but your patronage of the Eliot hotel supports at least one example of the snooty hotel concierge we all used to laugh at.
