Some family of mine in the Merrimack Valley recommended this spot for a good hangout spot, so I tried it with them on a weekend. The Establishment is situated inside of what looks like an old mill building on a small stream/river that runs right next to the restaurant. Love the look and the feel of the building and the way that it is set up. It has a lot of charm and atmosphere. Mood: We got there early before any mobs showed up but there were still a few patrons here and there. Once game times for the local sports teams started to come around, so too did the people. And, it got busy in there, let me tell you. The Establishment, does have that sports-bar feel to it as there are TV's all over the place so you can catch the game no matter where you sit. But as with any sports-bar or grille, that means the noise factor increases. From the size of the dining space, its also great for parties and gatherings with many people. Food/Service: We were seated and had our orders taken faster than you can say "Blitz." However, the drinks came back wrong on at least two occasions. They made an honest effort to make the change, but then after the second try, we think the bartender just gave up as the drink was still not correct. The servers were excellent and very attentive to us, and the food that we got was very good, hot, and tasty. I had no complaints about the food that we have gotten from The Establishment, and in fact, its the place I asked to go as my new go-to in the Chelmsford-area. Overall: I'm down with The Establishment and it was a winner for me. If I could give them 4 and a half stars, that would be my rating for them. Our staff had a Christmas celebration here last weekend and went to a show in Lowell after. The ambiance in this restaurant is casual but comfortable. We had a private room upstairs which was a little crowded and was rustic with exposed beams. Our party had about 40-50 people and we had only one bartender so it took some time to move the drink line. To make matters worse, our bartender was also our server and had to close the bar to get the food set up! After dinner she also cleared the tables. She was awesome and I felt bad for her but she handled it like a champ and got everything taken care of. I only hope she got paid extra for doing all of that!!! The food was good for buffet style. We had fish, steak tips, a pasta dish, rice, veggies, salad and rolls. Everything was hot and tasty. Even the steak tips (which are generally not good on a buffet) were cooked nicely and very good. The fried dough bites for dessert were truly awful. Cold and chewy. Those should be off the menu!!! All in all we had a great time, and there was plenty of good food. The Establishment opened up their doors to the town of Chelmsford not too long ago. Hidden behind an old mill building, you'll immediately notice the beautiful exterior of the restaurant with windows wrapping around the dining room area when you make your way back here to their private parking lot. Inside, it's a cozy tavern feel with a nice spacious bar, TVs at every angle and a massive dining room that's made for functions. Everything about this place has a lot of potential but I think they haven't quite found their footing yet. Pretzel Sticks- Wasn't sure if it was sitting for awhile but it tasted like pure lettuce because when we got it, the lettuce they were laying on top of was completely soggy underneath pretzels. The Est. Chili- Unfortunately this was one of the worst chili we've ever had. It was watery, bland, and the meat didn't soak up any flavor at all. French Onion Soup- Extremely salty. It does deserve a point for it's presentation. Cinnamon Apple Martini- Now drinks they could do. Perfect seasonal glass of vodka, apple, butterscotch & cinnamon liqueur, and apple cider with cinnamon-sugar rim. Haymaker- Spiced pumpkin vodka, maple syrup, ginger beer with fresh squeezed lemon juice, served with ice in a copper mug. Delightful. Overall Service: The hostess was having trouble multitasking so we skipped the seating part and went straight to the bar. Our bartender was nice but was inattentive, basically was at the far end of the bar majority of the time chatting with other servers. This is a great establishment! I come here with a few friends, once a week to catch up. We love this place because they are very thoughtful with COVID precautions. Appetizers are all great, fried pickles, nachos, fried ravioli- so good. My friend ordered everything from salmon, Mac and cheese and sandwiches. My girlfriend grabbed me a to-go order of fish tacos to bring home. I got them and it was just fried fish on a tortilla. No slaw, no dressing or seasoning, no sauce or pico, just fried fish in a plain tortilla. I ate the fish like it was chicken nuggets and threw away the tortilla. Not cool. on 11/4 I called to make a reservation for Saturday 11/9 for 1:00pm. I was told everything was all set. on Thursday they called to confirm and asked if I would mind sitting in the bar at the higher tables and chairs . I said no. I was with a group of 12. Some of them are in their 70's. On Friday they called and told me I have only 2 hours for the lunch. I have never been on a time schedule at this restaurant before. They should have informed me when I called to make this reservation that I only had 2 hours. After I complained about that, they called back and said everything is all set. It made the lunch with my family very stressful. I would never recommend the Establishment. They need training on setting up reservations. not the best place for lunch. read more

Two stars is generous..... Going to The Establishment is like rolling dice, you never know what your gonna get. We have been several times and keep giving them another shot. We went this past Saturday and it was, well, i guess you could say "ok" . . . We were seated smack dab in the middle of the place about a foot from the table aside of us and we might as well have dined with them. We asked to be moved to a booth and were told "no booths available" really? I counted four, oh well.... Service was not that great and our tip reflected our experience. We waited about 10 minutes before the server came over and said "I'll be right with you". When he finally came over he seemed overwhelmed, frustrated, and hurried us through our order. We waited another 10 minutes for our beverages, we ordered 2 diet sodas. The food was "ok", hot and tasted good but certainly not worth the frustration. Also it was extremally LOUD and we had trouble hearing each other for dinner conversation. We will not be back. read more

The wait staff is nice, and there's a nice family-friendly ambiance, but if you have a diary allergy- forget it. Not much you can eat here. Want a pizza? Nope. There's milk in the crust. Want a sandwich? Nope. There's milk in the bread. Want the fish and chips? Nope. There's milk in the breading. I could order the pasta with a red sauce. That's what we finally settled on. I wanted to take the time to express our level of gratitude and thanks to the staff at the Establishment for hosting our wedding rehearsal dinner last night in the West Room.  Everything was perfect! The food was fantastic and the staff was phenomenal. Maria was our bartender and room host. She did such an amazing job! She was so friendly and made great cocktails. Dawn is the events coordinator and responds so quick to emails and answers any questions promptly. We wanted everyone to know that the service, food and atmosphere was everything we were hoping for and much more. It was such an easy process to make our rehearsal dinner exactly what we wanted. I have to say I liked this place and would go again. This is very much a New England-y style casual restaurant. Almost a sports bar with something like 20-30 TVs staring at you in the main room. It's a bit much. But, it's a cute place as it is built into that old brick mill building along the river. That's such a New England thing, too. You see it here and there and I love it. Big place, kinda loud. Food was OK. Caesar salads were so-so, but the steak tips were excellent. They give you a lot and they have a wonderful crust/sauce on them. I got a Manhattan to drink first and I would say pass on that. Wine was better. Not a huge selection but it was OK. A nice casual place, good for larger groups. I'd go back. read more

I really don't understand why this place is so popular. There was a big line there when I got there. Thankfully I got call ahead seating. The interior is kind of cool, but it's totally spoiled by the fact that there are like 50 TVs all over the wall blasting sports, which may be great if that's what you're there for, but it makes it almost impossible to carry on a conversation or enjoy your time with your family. Thankfully there is some outdoor seating that is free from the noise which is by a river and very nice. But it's so limited that it can hardly accommodate more than three parties. As for the food, it is decidedly okay, bordering on not-so-great. There were five of us eating there tonight, and all five of us had the exact same opinion of the food. It was just sort of... "meh..." We also got two desserts. They both looked fantastic based on the picture in the menu, but both were pretty bad. The fried dough and the cookie crumble ice cream ball thanks. Amazingly, despite the fact that there were five of us splitting only two desserts (and we are all BIG into desserts), we left about half of the desserts on the table and didn't even want to bring them home. They were that bad. I can't remember a time in my entire life when I left any part of a desert uneaten or at least brought home. I think that more than anything told me I wouldn't want to visit this place again. +1 star for the very good service. No problems there! read more

I visited the establishment for a graduation dinner. The inside looked promising, there's lots of tables. However, the menu has a lot of stuff on it, similar to the Cheesecake Factory (which is never a good sign). I ordered a pasta primavera, the sauce tasted like it was out of can, the veggies in the sauce were bland and tasteless, the pasta was just simple boxed pasta. I'm no Michelin star chef but I can make a far better pasta at home. What's worse is that I was left with stomach discomfort for days after. I didn't even eat my leftovers :( read more

Went for lunch with Mildred & Minerva. Seated immediately, this place is SO pretty inside, old Mill Building along a canal with train tracks on the other side. Even on a gloomy Feb Day we commented on how nice our canal side seat was. PRO- Our waitress, Geraldine with her brogue was super nice & kept a good eye on us for refilling drinks. I got a cheese steak sandwich & onion rings. Roll was very soft & fresh & the steak well chopped & tender with American cheese mixed in. Onion rings seemed to be "from the bag" but weren't bad at all. Mildred got a "medium" pizza (their smallest size) which easily would have fed the whole table. She took home alot for leftovers, there was so much. Minerva got the pulled pork & ate every bite. She too commented the onion rings weren't bad for bagged. CON- No'"personal" size pizzas, which Mildred would have preferred. I wish they would have had some wraps or panninis as it was lunch time. My husband has celiac...ordered gf chicken buffalo grilled sandwich WITH fries and loved it! The bun did not fall apart on him! I had a rusticated pizza which was delicious. The drinks were excellent...my sangria was substantial- not just iced down wine with fruit...it was very good! I had the red house sangria. Very good. Very strong. We went here for the first time this evening. The atmosphere was great and having a beer delivered to me while I waited with my family was awesome, but it went down hill from there. The mac & cheese was not good, but edible. The steak tips my daughter and I ordered was supposed to be prepared medium, but came out burnt. One bite had me sending both plates back. The server was super nice, but tried to talk us into keeping the tips since it would take a while to replace. We ended up ordering pre-made soup just to complete the meal and move on. We had my fiancés bridal shower here today and it was awesome! The room and the staff were everything you could have dreamed about. Overall smooth experience. We had a work dinner of ~30ppl. Although there were no private rooms available to us, they were able to set up some space where it "felt" private. They were able to juggle our requests with no issues. Food was delicious and was also able to provide GF apps. The highlight of our dinner night was our server, Sam. For being the only server to our party, his response time was impressive and also remember who ordered what (drinks & food). He was patient, attentive and friendly. Wow can't believe its taken me this long to try this place, wish I did sooner! Came for dinner with a party of 6 and it was excellent! The menu is american style like pizza, burgers, steak etc. I got the grilled chicken with parmesan potatoes and seasonal veggies. Everything was cooked perfectly and they give you a lot of food, 2 meals worth for me. The only bad thing was that the outside inedible layer of the garlic cloves was in my potatoes and I found them while eating, which was kind of off putting. Also they put a pepper on all the plates as decorative but be careful because it's spicy!! The service was great to start but towards the end when we ordered dessert/drinks and wanted our bill she started disappearing . We had to track her down a few times. Love the ambiance here, old rustic mill vibe but tons of windows and really pretty! Also lots of tvs and a huge bar so would be good to catch a game. I've ordered from here a few times and have yet to be disappointed. The steak tip dinner is a bit pricey but they give you a massive quantity which is good for at least 2 meals. The bell cherry pepper included with the tips was tasty, and a nice addition to the overall flavor profile if you crave some spiciness. I called the restaurant afterwards to ask what type of pepper came with the steak ;). The salad was fresh and crispy and the croutons were not the generic ones you get at most places. I've also ordered the chicken tenders and fried pickles from here in the past. They are both above average and the quantities are massive. read more
